We wanted to try Mongolian skewers, and this was definitely the spot to do it! The seating area is on the smaller side, with about 7-8 tables that can seat roughly 4-6 people each, so it feels cozy and lively. The menu has a huge variety of skewers -- lamb, beef, beef tendon, chicken feet, venison, chicken hearts, and more. My party was excited and basically wanted to try everything. The skewers are pretty small, but that just means you get to sample more -- I'm pretty sure we went through around 60 skewers total and I honestly enjoyed them all. Aside from the skewers, the eggplant dish and the crawfish were especially delicious, so I highly recommend ordering those too. Service was fast and helpful. While dining, I did see a walk-in party being turned away (or perhaps told to return later). It's located on Isenberg St near South King in Moiliili, fronting the St. Louis Clubhouse. Parking available in a handful of spaces fronting the restaurant or on the street. We ordered the Restaurant Week menu which was for 2-3 persons. The garlic edamame appetizer came out quickly. The deep fried chicken tenders and skewers were served atop a wooden serving tray. The 2-top table became quite crowded, with dishes arranged in puzzle-like fashion, as the server quipped. Our favorites of the evening were the chicken tenders, eggplant, and butter scallops (which were individually served as there were prepared in 3 different ways). I wouldn't necessarily suggest it to others, but I also wouldn't mind going back if someone invited, just not a place I'd go out of my way for. Others in my party enjoyed their food more than I did. The flavors were pretty similar across most of the dishes, so nothing really stood out. The mushrooms came in a foil container with a soup/sauce that felt a bit odd. And went perfectly with the fatty meat skewers and whatever spice mix they put on the side. We ended up asking for extra of both dips lol. For our sides we got the fried rice- big chunks of pork belly in it, yum. Scallop with vermicelli- a little too zingy for my taste and the scallops were quite small. Eggplant- juicy and garlicky! One of the best things we ordered! And the golden tofu- someone posted a picture here of skewers with the caption but it was NOT SKEWERS! Just pan fried spicy tofu... mid. Your meal also comes with a complimentary dessert- snow. Peach or passion fruit, with Frosted Flakes on top! Tasted like frozen cereal bowl lol so yummy. My only two issues were the price and the service a bit. It was fully packed and there was only one person taking orders but she forgot quite a few of our things and we had to wave her down multiple times for the same things. And prices were a little crazy too- $8-$12 for 3-5 skewers. In New York they were $1-2 each AND higher quality. Overall we'll be back but definitely only for a special occasion due to the price. This place is located a few blocks from Waikiki in the McCully area. We tried to stop in without a reservation on a Friday and were disappointed that they were fully packed until an hour wait, so we left. We came back on a weeknight and were able to be seated without a reservation. The food is prepared in the kitchen on skewers (as you can guess from the name). They bring the cooked meats to the table and place them on a heating tray to keep warm. I think our group ordered most of the meat types and each one was delicious. The seasoning was unique but so flavorful. They serve the food with a little side of sauces: one is ginger/pineapple sauce, the other is a chili/cumin powder. They also can bring more heat to the table with another powder if you want to add spice beyond what you order. At the end of the meal, they serve you a large dish of shaved ice. We chose the passion fruit flavor. It was out of this world, topped with Frosted Flakes for crunch. This is my favorite skewer place on island! Love the food and service(on most nights). At one point I came 3 times a week for a month or so! They are very good at making sure you have water and napkins. They are always checking to make sure you're okay even when busy. Came in for my reservation and was sat at a 2 seater table, I asked for a bigger table because I knew we were gonna order a lot but was told no because of other reservations. When we tried to order the big lighted up juice bowl but was asked if we wanted half pitcher for half off because we were sitting on the 2 seater and didn't have space, which was fine because we both wasn't gonna finish it. Then we were there for about 5 mins and a couple walked in with no reservations was sat at a 4 seater. Then maybe 30 mins and another couple came in with no reservations and got sat at a 2 seater but when they were ordering they ordered a tower of beer and was offered a 4 seater but then was told nevermind because another waitress told her there was party with reservation that she was gonna seat there and guess what?! it was another couple! I can understand if the parties came in with 3 or more to make it make sense for my denial of my request but since they weren't it was like a slap in the face. I am so sad about the service and experience tonight... I think it might be time to take a little break and hope service evolves and gets better. I didn't take photos because I was too hungry and the food was too good. How are you supposed to take photos when every bite is delicious? I definitely recommend the lamb, and the chicken skin, and the king mushrooms. Parking was tight and seating was limited, but it was definitely worth the wait. I would advise calling ahead and getting on their waitlist so you don't need to wait as long. Good thing is just in case you missed the normal closing hours for restaurants, you can still drop on by and enjoy some delicious skewers. We ordered many different skewers as well as an eggplant, which was full of flavor, and cooked good, as well as a little side of Mongolian fried rice. All of the skewers were very tasty, and there was a lot of variety to choose from. TIP: their pineapple dipping sauce is amazing!!! They also offer a free snow fluffy milk ice dessert. I was surprised when they brought it out and sang "happy "birthday". That was the icing on the cake to end the meal!!! The dessert is a Must Try!!! The tofu noodle salad was like eating rubber bands, the wonton were cold, the tendon was tough and rubber rubbery, all the meat tasted the same since they use the same seasoning for everything amd that is all you can taste. I would like to start of this review by saying the whole entire meal I kept saying, "Wow this is so good." I've been to Khan Skewer before, but I was meeting my boyfriend at the end of his meal so I only had a glass of wine and a bite..... or a few of his free dessert... wait did someone say free?! When we got there, I was so shocked how busy it was! They made us wait around ten minutes to clean the table, but we were sat fairly after. We ordered the gizzards, beef tongue x2, mushroom medley, garlic scallops, and corn. Seems like not a lot of food, but I was so so stuffed by the time we left. You get two options of spiciness for the skewers which was mild and spicy. Of course we got the spicy! My favorite thing ever was the beef tongue and the garlic scallops. The beef tongue wasn't too spicy but was super soft. The spices they use for the skewers is unbeatable. They also offer a pineapple sauce that gives a good amount of acidity to the spice as well as another spicy dipping power, which was phenomenal. The garlic scallops were doused in garlic and glass noodles and had a small thai chili on top for a bit of a kick. I wouldn't recommend getting this if you're planning on kissing boys in the club after! After our meal, they gave us three flavor options of the free dessert I mentioned earlier which was lilikoi, chocolate, and peach. Khans took over the old location of AGU ramen located next door to St.Louis alumni hall on Isenberg St. It was resturant week so we all ordered a set menu for 3 . Came with an appetizers, 4 types of skewer , scallops, egg plant and a mushroom medley and dessert all to share . The skewer consists of Beef, Pork belly, Lamb and Venison. Tonight a group of my foodie friends got together for a semi-surprise birthday and Friendsgiving dinner. Our fearless group leader Auntie (aka Nadine C.) suggested Khan Skewer Restaurant (KSR), which serves Mongolian style BBQ on skewers. KSR is located on Isenberg St, that took over the space previously occupied by Agu Ramen and Papa Kurt's. They share the same lot as St Louis Alumni Clubhouse. I arrived before our 6pm reservations and luckily the parking lot was still empty. But as I entered KSR the restaurant was pretty much full. Very promising. Prior to this meal I didn't bother studying the menu like I usually do but shoutout to Donna O. for advising our group of their 2024 Restaurant Week menu where they had a set prix fixe for $68.99 that feeds 2-3 people. There were 9 of us so we all got on board with this prix fixe: garlic edamame, 3 skewers each of beef, pork belly, Maui venison and lamb) mushroom medley, scallop with vermicelli, grilled eggplant and rice. Food is cooked by their chef and then delivered to your table and placed on the warmer. My personal favorites were the lamb and pork belly. One of my friends previously dined here, raved over the spicy pineapple dipping sauce which was good and had a good heat kick at the end. But personally I preferred the spicy chili blend that paired well with this menu. The prix fixe ended with cool treat of snow fluffy milk ice (chocolate, passion fruit or peach). Service was above average for a Chinese restaurant. Staff delivered our food at a good pace and refilled our water cups regularly. We were also celebrating a birthday where Auntie brought a cake that staff refrigerated until it was time to serve. KSR had a prerecorded "Happy Birthday" song that they played as the cake was delivered to our table. Overall, a pleasant first time experience at KSR where I'd be game for a return visit. Honolulu Restaurant Week Meal #2 I've been itching to try this place and took this perfect opportunity for restaurant week! A 10 course meal for only $68.99 ($104.89 value) for 2-3 people. Mongolian cuisine -- full of flavor and spice! Ambiance is cozy and welcoming. A good place for late night eats too. We thoroughly enjoyed each dish and even had some leftovers to take home. TLDR: One of our favorite meals on Oahu! Skewers were all super flavorful, and we loved that the meal came with dessert. Top 3 were the king oyster mushroom, pork belly, and beef. Must make a reservation ahead of time, this place is super popular. Small parking lot outside the restaurant was very convenient. ------ FOOD: 1. King oyster mushrooms (5/5) 2. Pork Belly (5/5) 3. Pretty gamey taste, even to those who typically love lamb. ------ SERVICE: * Good service but the restaurant seemed generally understaffed. Despite being understaffed, the waiters were all so kind and patient, and they were more apologetic than they needed to be in our opinions! ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE: * Perfect spot for a group of friends to grab dinner and drinks after a long day out * Definitely more of a casual spot in the suburbs -- will need to drive / Uber if you're staying on Waikiki, but it's a very short drive * Nice neighborhood feel and the parking lot outside the restaurant made things super convenient read more
