The service here is great, but I feel that the katsu here is not necessarily better than the ones I have had in LA. They had a lunch special where I got some udon, rice, balls, and a small piece for katsu for a great deal.

If you happen to be in the Ala Moana Shopping Center and crave Japanese cuisine, stop by this gem for a semi upscale, yet casual dining experience. There were five of us, and most of us had the Shokudou Set and some had the Combination. I enjoyed the Shokudo and walked out feeling beyond satisfied. We were serviced quickly and the waiting time for our food was just right. Comfortable seating area and lighting. Bathroom was spacious and clean. Definitely a return spot for me.

Rokkaku is located at 2nd floor at Ala Moana Shopping Center. I made reservation on Saturday for dinner. I got seated immediately when I got in. The services was just ok. * Pork Lion Tonkatsu (8/10) - Not the best Tonkatsu with that price $32 +$3 to make a set with rice and Miso soup. The Tonkatsu has its texture and not too tender. * Tempura-Don (6/10) - my friend ordered this and she said the sauce was very salty. Overall this place is overpriced. I think I can find another place which is cheaper with better quality of food and service.

This is our second time here. They accommodated us with a baby stroller! Thank you. My husband and I ordered the Berkshire Pork Fillet Cutlet and added a set meal that comes with rice, miso soup and pickled vegetables. We really enjoyed it, they were very delicious. Portions were good as well. The servers were quick and attentive and although there weren't much people dining in, they checked in on us quite often, which we truly appreciated. The place was very clean, cozy and elegant. We will definitely be back!

Very nice trendy popular restaurant on the mall level of Ala Moana shopping center! It's facing Mauna next to Victoria Secrets! Please refer to pictures below as it is very pricey but that doesn't seem to stop diners! Went on a Thursday for lunch & it and was crowded! Recommended that you make reservations and go at 11am when it first opens! I had shrimp tempura donburi which was good but not exceptional for specially for $28!

I used to come to this restaurant at least monthly when I lived here back in 2017. Unsure if it was just this one situation, but the level of quality in service and food has significantly degrated. Unsure if it's new management or simply new employees since then, but the experience overall was mediocre at best and enough to remove this restaurant from my favorite tonkatsu spot in hawaii. Service definitely made my group feel rushed as if they wanted to quickly flip our table to get the next group in. I was dining with some seniors and one of them made a complaint about the quality of the butter fish to where it was simply disregarded with the statement that they marinate the fish overnight which should be sufficient (anyone who cooks miso butter fish knows this is not sufficient). The food I ordered was a mixed tonkatsu meal. The batter overall didn't feel as flaky as it used to before and the meat was chewy and rubbery in areas giving the impression of either chewing or tendon or being overcooked. Ambiance is clean enough.

If you're looking for a good Katsu place in town I recommend giving this place a try! ***What I ordered **Mix Katsu Set (9/10) ~ The meats were soft and cooked to perfection. Although, it was interesting. Some of the breading would stay onto the meats while sometimes it would kind of fall apart. I'm just happy that it wasn't served soggy. Everything was very crispy. In addition, the miso soup and tsukemono were very refreshing and paired well with the Katsu! Overall, I highly recommend you make reservations as it does get pretty busy (especially for dinner). Also they have some really good gelatos as well. The honey yogurt one is my favorite if you get the chance to try it! :)

Rokkaku Hamakatsu ***** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ***** Food: ***** Value: *** Menu: **** Ambiance: **** Service: **** Parking: ***** Rokkaku Hamakatsu has moved up to my #2 favorite Japanese restaurant on Oahu. I enjoy their light assorted tempura, miso butterfish, and Berkshire pork loin cutlet. For the last three years, I have been visiting Japan twice a year for 2-3 weeks each time and my favorite activity is eating at their specialty restaurants. Over the years, I've learned what good Japanese food is. Rokkaku Hamakatsu's food is as good as the Japanese restaurants in Japan! I enjoy eating their combination teshoku and their Berkshire pork loin cutlet is on par with Tonkatsu Tamafuji, without any lines. RATINGS & RECOMMENDED ORDER: Assorted tempura = A Miso butterfish = A Berkshire pork loin cutlet = A (Sorry! These are so good that I will not be ordering anything else.) Yelp: https://yelp.to/uAVjxwYd7z YELP: Milton K Sorry! They allow only one 12 second video & the remaining to 3 seconds. The full video and pictures of the entire menu can be found on other platforms/apps: MiltonIn808 RATINGS KEY: A = Really Good - one of the best B = Good - would order again C = ok - similar, nothing special D = Not very good - wouldn't order F = Terrible - avoid

Went here for lunch with a few colleagues. The ambiance is nice, relatively quiet. Service is good and prompt. The food options were good, something for most everyone without being a very large menu. I opted for the mix tonkatsu, which included pork loin cutlet, pork fillet cutlet, Holland cutlet, and fried shrimp. I love variety so enjoyed this. Holland cutlet is pork with cheese in the middle. It was ok but cheese is not necessary if the pork is good (and it is good). The katsu was perfectly fried and accompanied with miso soup, rice, cabbage salad, and some pickled vegetables. I'd recommend this restaurant but make reservations. They are pretty busy. It is a good option if you can't get into Tamafuji. And the location is good if you want to walk around/shop afterwards.

Nice quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of the mall especially when you're tired from after Xmas shopping. A lovely alternative to the food court dining at the mall. You can step inside and feel like you're in Japan for a meal. Lunch and dinner menu is the same which means lunch is a little on the pricier side. My friend and I both got noodles with 2 hand rolls (choice of salmon, hamachi, tuna, or unagi) set for $26. She chose hot udon and I chose hot soba. The temaki were delicious with generous portions of hamachi. Our meals came with a simple but delicious green salad topped with tiny crunchy balls and a dressing that made it perfect! We were quite full at the end and my friend only ate half her noodles. We got to chatting with our neighbor who got a tonkatsu (apparently what they're known for) and salmon combination. Her daughter got a nabeyakiudon that came with tempura which I was eyeing on the menu. Besides the food, she likes coming here for the clean bathroom that has a working Toto toilet! Will be back for both! (My only complaint was I think the food had a lot of MSG. I should have not had so much of the soup broth.) Was gonna give 5 stars for food and facilities but took one off because the msg made me feel thirsty and dehydrated.

Got a side salad for the 2 combination order

I ended up here craving a tonkatsu dish. It surely didn't disappoint. I ordered the 2 item combination and asked for the better tonkatsu. It's not the best compared to Tonkatsu Tamafuji but it's convenient because it is easier to get into since it's located at Ala Moana mall (same level as Longs). Ambiance is a little more on the dimmer side and has multiple tables with a bar area and at the back of the restaurant, there is a limited seating area where you can remove your shoes and sit on a cushioned seating. Service was mediocre at best but it's alright. More older crowd eat here. I'd say come here if you're immediately craving a tonkatsu dish!

Tasty salad, but portion was very small.

Returned visit, after a long pause. This time it was even a better experience. Pleasantly surprised how good their tonkatsu & shrimp tempura sets were that I have long forgotten. Without exaggeration, their tonkatsu set rivaled, or even surpassed those "hard to get in" competitors. Tonkatsu lovers, save your frustration and lengthy waiting time, check out this place for yourself; you can easily make reservations in advance, too!! Without a doubt, I am sure you will be glad you did!

I had been here years ago and since I don't go to Ala Moana Center, I have forgotten about it. The ambiance is elegant and clean. The food is always delicious. The service is excellent. We had some lunch menu items but of course the katsu is always delicious. This time the shrimp tempura held a bit too much oil so when I bit into it, I actually could taste the oil which wasn't so pleasant. The katsu in itself was delicate and delicious. Desserts are not too sweet which are delicious! Always enjoy delicious and clean Japanese food

Enjoyed the Japanese style tonkatsu, so crispy and juicy. You're given sesame seeds to grind to add to your dish which made it fun.

We had a 7pm reservation that I booked through Yelp. We arrived a few minutes before our time, and was quickly seated in a "cozy" little table for 2. This place is crackin' though. It's loud and energetic. Mostly because it's a small little place down a side street on Beach Walk. The staff is super friendly, and the food is even better. I had the pork and shrimp katsu set, and my husband had fancy pork katsu set. We also had edamame to start. Everything came out sizzling hot and to perfection. I should also mention, this place is clean. The staff was constantly cleaning tables and menus. I'm giving Ginza only 4 stars because no one ever came to refill our drinks. I know it's such a small thing, but I accidentally ate some of the spicy mustard that was buried on my plate under the salad. My mouth was ON FIRE! I drank all my Diet Coke and my husband had already finished his drink too. So ya, I was dying...lol! Overall though, I would 100% eat at Ginza again

Very random one morning after stopping by kona purveyors in Waikiki, I went to the restroom and while my husband was waiting for me he decided to randomly check if they had any reservations available and we were able to get one for the next day! Getting a reservation is definitely the way to go, I've seen people wait in standby however seating is not guaranteed since they prioritize those who have a reservation. The service was amazing! They are constantly checking up on you to see if you need anything else. I like how they offer different kinds of miso soup. I personally had limitations due to my shellfish allergy, but it was amazing! The katsu we ordered was one of the biggest one that they offer. It's crazy how big the katsu was and surprisingly it was super crispy, light, and even juicy in the inside! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to try katsu in hawaii!

Since we didn't get reservations we had to do walk in. The waitlist didn't seem bad when we first signed up but it took forever to finally get a table. It was a hot day so we were waiting outside, for nearly an hour. There were only like two or three parties ahead of us on the waitlist. We finally got seated and the people right after us on the list got seated at the same time (they put their name 15 min after us). I would not recommend the waitlist, since it's not consistent. The food itself is always delicious. The new space was nice (and larger). Our server was very nice also. We both got tonkatsu. I got the mizore and my partner got the sizzling one. I appreciate the choices of rice and miso soup. I really enjoyed my Shiso rice and the white miso soup. I think even though I enjoyed the ground daikon but I also think I would've been happy with just a regular tonkatsu, similar for the sizzling platter.

I've been to Mitch's a few times and when I saw that they opened up an Izakaya next door, I knew I had to try it and made a reservation on Yelp. Izakaya Mitch's specializes more in cooked dishes while the other side is more about the fresh / raw fish. But that didn't stop us from ordering the assorted sashimi. All the fish were from Japan and yes you can taste the difference. The fatty tuna was obviously my favorite but even the regular tuna and the hamachi was so buttery, it just melts in your mouth. Plus, it comes with real wasabi. Not horseradish, real wasabi. For the cooked dishes we got the hokkaido crab tempura with a side of matcha salt. One of the best tempuras I've ever had. The kamameshi, a rice dish with their fish of the day. We got the half order and it's kinda like a bibimbap where they mix the rice for you at your table. I saw that people were raving about this on Yelp and put in our order right when we got in because it takes 25-ish minutes to prepare. On special, they had a karei karaage. Karei is a flat fish and I've never had a fish karaage before, it was perfectly fried and dipped in the ponzu sauce it was so good.
