Long line at the heart of Waikiki. House made fresh noddles (udon style). Get in line, pick your broth/curry and noddles/rice and then you pass by all the fried items. Tempura can be made Fresh per your request. Then one of the staff will help located a table for you. Very touristy place (then again all of Waikiki is). Worth trying - not sure if I would wait an hour in line for. We got lucky and the wait was about 15 minutes which is unheard of! Chicken curry Katsu and Nikutama were both delicious!

Hit the spot! Not sure it lived up to all the hype, but after a long day and being jet-lagged, it was comforting and satisfying. I got the #1 and loved it. Hubs got #9 and added Chicken Katsu Chicken Katsu was the star: juicy, flavorful, not overly breaded, and not greasy. My #1 had great broth flavor, but the meat was a little too fatty for my taste. If I lived here, I might come again, but it's not something I would recommend for someone staying in the area. Much better eats in the area.

5 stars for the price, efficiency and for the food. Love getting to watch the food being made fresh behind the counter, including the homemade udon noodles. The line gets super long at night - we've only ever gone for lunch or for an early dinner where there was no wait or else it was very short. Ordering can be a little chaotic; is seems rushed and is loud in there, so be prepared to order in advance. It was hot during the time we visited so I got the chicken salad and it was so fresh and delish!

Absolutely banger of a place to eat at in Waikiki! The service was quick and efficient and the food was tasty, plentiful, and offers a variety :) This is the best comfort meal in Waikiki!!! Warning, it can seem a little crazy at times but you'll get your table to eat at, don't worry :-)

Marugame is a must visit every time we visit Hawaii. My husband and I have dined in and also ordered pick up when the lines were too long, but honestly, the wait is always worth it because the udon is so fresh! The restaurant has a lively ambiance that captures the energy of Waikiki! Just a heads up: you cannot save seats while waiting for your food, so your whole party needs to be ready to sit once you've gone through the line. The staff is consistently friendly, and despite the crowds, the services moves incredibly fast. On this visit, I tried the tempura for the first time and particularly loved the shrimp and sweet potato. It was perfectly crispy! Since I'm pregnant and currently avoiding soft boiled eggs, I skipped my usual Nikutama and tried the beef udon. It was delicious! The beef complimented the fresh udon noodles and broth. It satisfied my cravings!

Tried Marugame Udon in Waikiki and it definitely lived up to the hype. The noodles were delicious and completely different from your average noodles with great flavor and texture. Their tempura selection was huge and looked amazing. I only tried the crab and shrimp tempura, but both were really good and fresh. The line was long, but it moved pretty fast and was absolutely worth the wait. I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in Hawaii.

Hands down one of the best places in Hawaii! No wonder the line stays long - the hype is real. Don't let the line deter you though because it moves fast being that it's "lunchroom" style ordering. The noodles were amazingly soft and the taste hit. They also have a variety of tempuras that are also tasty. I highly recommend this spot to all!

Massive line...moves very fast. A bowl of hot noodle soup isn't what you'd expect to want while in a tropical climate, but this hit the spot. The line is cafeteria style and a bit intimidating. Grab a tray. Order the size bowl and broth. Add extras. They hand it to you. You can then self serve additional tempura extras such as cheese, shrimp or fried veggies. Pay at the register and hope a seat is open. People tend to eat fast and make space but you may find you're having to wait for a few minutes for a table to open up during prime hours. I got the chicken brother, extra egg and tempura cheese and shrimp. The broth was excellent. Packed with flavor. The noodles are hand made daily. If you've never had udon, they are thick and have a bit of a chewy texture. The bowl is a hearty meal. We actually ended up sharing since we weren't super hungry but really wanted to try this place. It was perfect for us to share. The cheese was so good. Deep fried with a nice tempura crust. The shrimp was good too. You could kinda tell it had sat there for a bit, but it wasn't too bad. I imagine this would hit amazing if you had one too many drinks the night before and needed something to bring you back to life.

    Tempura Station

Recently stopped by Marugame Udon and had a delicious experience. We went on a weekday evening and the line stretched outside, but it moved quickly. The cafeteria-style setup keeps things efficient. You grab a tray, order your udon as you move down the line, pick up tempura and sides with tongs, then pay at the end. After that, a staff member helps guide you to a table, and there's a self-serve station for utensils and sauces. Highly recommend grabbing the tempura sauce. Nikutama Udon (5/5): Sweet and light broth that thickens nicely once mixed with the soft-boiled egg. Simple, comforting, and really well balanced. Curry Nikutama Udon (5/5): Richer and more savory than the classic. The curry adds a thicker texture and deeper flavor, making it just as satisfying. Chicken Katsu (5/5): A standout side. Freshly fried, crispy, and surprisingly not oily. Paired really well with the udon. Shrimp Tempura (3/5): Decent, but a bit too much batter compared to shrimp. Still good, just not a highlight. Overall, a fun and efficient dining experience with consistently good food. Definitely a spot worth checking out for fresh udon.

This place , WWWOOOOWWW!!! Food- Delicious , so freaking good !! Love the flavors. Location - ALWAYS BUSY !! *** Expect to wait 30+ just to get served, because it's soooooo popular *** Staff were great, effective and quick!!! I came here with a friend in November to Hawaii as lot of the locals recommended it for great vibes, cheap eats and a good food. We arrived about a few hours after opening. The line was not long but it picked up after we got there! So we beat the rush. It's like a conveyor belt system so make sure you know what you want. I ended up getting the spicy noodles as it was vegetarian dish. The staff was very friendly. The noodles was good and the broth packed flavor like no joke. After you order you. They prepare it right there on the spot. Then you move on to the sides if you want any. I didn't as I get so full so easily. The girlie got sides which I was able to sample. It's self seating and there was ample seating when we came. The staff is quickly turning and burning seats. To go bags/boxes are an Available. We enjoyed our time here and highly recommend if you are in Hawaii.

Fun fresh udon noodle joint. It was fast and we beat the long lines before the dinner rush. I had the #1 but I think the creamy broth #2 was my favorite after trying my husband's. The tempura sides were good as I enjoyed the sweet potato out of the ones we tried.

Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 3/5 My hotel was within walking distance, so I decided to check out this popular udon spot. We happened to arrive before the dinner rush and were able to walk right in, which was lucky since there's usually a line out the door. I was already familiar with the concept because I've been to their location in LA, and there are clear instructions inside on how to order. I ordered the nikutama along with a selection of tempura. Unfortunately some of the tempura seemed like it had been sitting out for a while it was a bit stale and not very crispy, which was disappointing. The udon broth itself was just okay, but the beef was a bit too fatty for my preference. Udon is made to order so it was good and had a good chew to it! The restaurant is spacious and able to accommodate a lot of people, and the overall pace is pretty quick and efficient. It's a solid spot to check out, but overall nothing about the meal really stood out or wowed me.

Even with a decent amount of seating, there is minimal space so they ask that you leave your strollers outside. When we called the first time saying our daughter was asleep they arranged everything in order to fit the stroller inside. The second visit, I had an even bigger stroller because it was a double stroller for my daughter and son. When I said my son was asleep they again, quickly tried to arrange space for the stroller until we realized he woke up. I truly appreciate them being so welcoming because I've come across many establishments that are not especially towards kids. As for the food, the first time the tonkatsu was a miss for me. I was comparing it to a popular spot on the island that books out months in advance that I tried just before my first visit here and it just seemed a lot more oily and not as tender. We were actually going to eat at the other business again but with two kids and walking non stop on our trip already, I was so happy we had an option closer to us. Both times, we were coming from Hilton Hawaiian Village. They have the cutest car bento boxes for the kids, and they let you choose the car color. My daughter loved the mini umbrella that came with her plate. My son was days before turning 1 year old so a lot of things ended up on the floor and even then, they were so kind about it. The best thing though for my husband and I AND my son, was the loco moco which we were told was limited and a new item for dinner since it was primarily only served as a lunch option? The flavor of the gravy alone was sooo good and rich. My son ended up eating my whole portion of rice and gravy with no crumbs left behind or on the floor lol. The other katsu items we ordered were nice and lightly coated and were not heavily oily at all. The only thing that I felt lacked was their curry especially in comparison to their gravy. I would definitely recommend coming here and I can't wait to come back. That was one of our favorite new dishes this trip and we come every year!

I got the pork loin with shrimp combo (the mixed portion instead of the large), and everything was perfectly crispy, flavorful, and satisfying without feeling too heavy. One of my favorite parts was grinding the sesame seeds myself in the little ceramic bowl with the wooden grinder, then mixing in the tonkatsu sauce. It made the whole meal feel interactive and intentional, and the sauce was SO good on the pork loin. I also ended up getting a refill of the cabbage because the sesame dressing they served with it was honestly addictive. I went around 8 PM to avoid the dinner rush and was pleasantly surprised I got a table pretty easily. Taking my time with the smaller mixed portion made the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable instead of rushed. Overall, really delicious food, great atmosphere, and one of my favorite meals I've had in Waikiki so far. Pictured are the before and after of my dish.
