Udon and tempura

Back again, cannot get enough of their cold kitsune. Nice ac too, very fast and friendly service. Yama udon.

STIX Asia ( formerly Waikiki Yokocho )has been open for a couple of years now...it shut down during the pandemic. It is a part of the Waikiki Shopping Plaza. Kai Coffee is on the street level with boutiques and shops catering to tourists. I had a long black while waiting for Stix to open; operating hours are daily from 1100 till 1000p. The food court is on the lower level. It can be accessed via Seaside Avenue via stairs; the other entrance is on Kalakaua Avenue on an escalator. Noodle Street has Ramen Bario. But I wanted to try Kyoto Katsuda. There is more of an Asian theme but the food hall is primarily Japanese eateries.

Fun Photo Booth with a red interior. A fun souvenir!

What a fun food court! It's truly an experience just walking around this basement level, hidden food court. Make the trek below to experience being transported to an ethnic food adventure. Although we didn't eat here (tbh it all looked so good and we were a bit overwhelmed lol), we did hop into the photo booth for a mini photo shoot. The husband and I had a great time in that little red photo booth striking poses and laughing our butts off. Best $12 we ever spent on photos! Highly recommend for a fun stroll, photo op, and I bet the food is great!

My favorite dessert :) a matcha ice cream parfait

Having two kids that are picky eaters, we love coming here because they have such an array of choices! Pho, fried chicken, tempura, sushi, Chinese dishes, Japanese dishes, udon, musubi, ice cream! We love how you can just choose where you want to eat, and then after, get dessert! (They have sorbet ice creams AND matcha, parfaits, etc, so you get a good variety) This place is a casual atmosphere, so it's a good place to meet up with friends or to just eat out as a family. Parking is pretty easy as well since you can park in the garage and you get the validation at the desk (across from the musubi place) ("when you show them your receipt from where you ate (though you still have to pay for parking, it's not too pricey)

Very cool space! This is a must try for mostly Japanese and Korean options. There were also two Vietnamese (Pho and Banh Mi) and Hong Kong options. Something like a really nice food court...in the basement. I tried HK Cafe (Hong Kong). Tasty option. Central bathroom requires a code from your restaurant receipt.

It was cool to walk around and see all your chooses. Maybe we should have chosen a different place to eat. Food was so so. Really now service as it was like pick up your own food. They did make our noodles that did not really wow me. All in all fun to check out bit there is better food elsewhere

I think this is a newer food court on Kalakaua, since I don't remember it on my last visit. It's on the lower level and there are plenty of options to choose from - udon, sushi, sandwiches, ice cream, onigiri and lots more! It's a nice option to get a little bit of everything or if you have different taste preferences in your group. It's also a nice way to escape the sun on the main Waikiki strip and take a break in the AC for a while!

We came here around 2 pm and it was almost empty. Upon entering, there is a huge directory with the restaurant, cuisine, and layout of the food hall which was so convenient. We wanted noodles so we went to the noodles section and picked a restaurant from there. Each restaurant had ample seating and the table service was quick. I also went to nana's green tea and got a sweet potato matcha pudding drink which was so delicious! They call out your number and must present ur receipt to grab your drink. This food hall is definitely an easy option if u know u want Asian food but don't know exactly what.

Floor guide with about 17 different places to enjoy!

My friend and I were recommended this Asian food hall and I'm glad we decided to go! It seemed like mostly Japanese food, but I also saw Chinese, Hong Kong, Korean, Taiwanese, and Vietnamese! I love the overall ambience and how it is inside Waikiki Shopping Plaza so it has AC. There is a Noodle St side and an Asian Food side. It wasn't too busy but it was a Tuesday Afternoon around 2 PM when my friend and I went. Service was very fast and efficient at both places we went to. My friend went to Nana Musubi for some musubis first. He said he enjoyed them. They had a variety of musubis with brown and white rice. We both got food at Udon Yama. I had a lunch set for $9.99+tax which included a small curry rice bowl and kake udon! I enjoyed both and would definitely come back to try more food at this restaurant as well as the other restaurants in the Food Hall!

Tonkatsu Teishoku
Kathy T.

We got tonkatsu at the Stix and the food was amazing! There are a lot of small Japanese and Korean restaurants underground with seating for each individual place. This is a great place to go to get options. For the place that we went, service did take some time as there was only one worker having to take orders, clean, and process payment. However, I would still highly recommend visiting!

I like how you can adjust their saltiness and firmness/thickness of noodle. The first time I had the ramen, it was beyond salty. I actually did not know about the customization so maybe they made a mistake. That was 2+ years ago. Went here twice this month and my opinion changed. I love it. Will come back. My daughter and I like to order the Shiro Wagaya Ramen and my husband loves the Garlic Wagaya (Kuro) ramen. We also like to order the corn tempura as an appetizer. The restaurant itself is not so big but fits quite a good amount of people. The workers are very friendly and accommodating. You can also order your food through a QR code and pay online when you're done. There are also restrooms onsite. Parking is still small and can fill up when it's busy (you also aren't allowed to park in the Church parking lot) If you haven't eaten here before, I would suggest looking on their website at the waitlist to see how many people are on there prior to going there as they can get really busy. You can also put your name on the waitlist online so you don't have to do it on site. They have a really good text messaging system letting you know when your table is almost ready.

Overall, the ramen was very good, but I want to share an important tip about their waiting system so others don't get caught off guard. When your name gets close to the top of the list, do NOT wander away. They will call your name three times, and if you're not standing there, they'll cross your name off immediately. What surprised me was that they start calling names before the current customers have even finished eating or paid their bill. I had made eye contact with the host, pointed to my name and party size, and he acknowledged me. There were still people sitting at the counter eating, and it looked like it would be another 10-15 minutes before seats opened up. I stepped away briefly and came back, only to find my name had already been crossed off the list. The party that was supposedly leaving hadn't even paid yet and was still sitting in their seats. When I explained the situation, the host simply said, "Sorry, your time passed already. I called your name three times." Their sign says they will wait 3 minutes, but in our case it felt more like they called the name three times in quick succession and then removed it. Thankfully, after some discussion, he agreed to seat us anyway. So my advice: once your name is within a couple spots of being called, stay close and pay attention. As for the food, we ordered the Oxtail Ramen (spicy) and the Cashew Pork Ramen. The ramen itself was excellent. The oxtail was tender, although it didn't have a lot of flavor on its own in the soup. They provide a separate bowl with ginger and what appeared to be a ponzu-based sauce, and the intended way to eat it is to remove the oxtail from the soup and dip it into the sauce. That definitely enhanced the flavor. The restaurant is set up with bar-style seating in a half-oval arrangement. Your party will be seated shoulder-to-shoulder, and guests will be sitting directly across from you on the other side of the counter. I'd estimate there are about 25 seats total. Service is efficient, food comes out quickly, and most customers finish and leave fairly fast. For reference, we arrived at 8:38 PM on a Tuesday with 17 people ahead of us. We were seated around 9:15 PM, our food arrived by about 9:30 PM, and we left around 10:00 PM. Overall, this would have been a 5-star experience if not for the confusion with the waiting list. The ramen is absolutely worth trying, but understanding how their queue system works will save you from a potentially frustrating experience.

Skipped it then because of the long wait times, long one hour wait times. But finally got to try it for lunch, shorter wait times, about 10 minutes. The staff here are very friendly and very nice! As it's very hot and humid, would recommend going during when they open to avoid the long lines.

Not only that, but I have to bring my significant other along to share in the deliciousness! I don't know how I'm just now talking about Marugame Udon. When I first came here, my friend and I decided to give it a try because we saw the longest line and wanted to see what all the hype was about. There was a couple in front of us who said they come here every time they visit Hawaiʻi and that it's a must-do stop on every trip. When you walk in, it's a small place. You can watch a team member washing the noodles and portioning them into bowls right in front of you. Then you choose your bowl size, small or large, and select your broth. After that, you get to choose from a variety of fried items and other à la carte options displayed on a warmer. Seating can be limited because of how busy this place gets. You line up to get your food, pay for it, grab your condiments, utensils, and a cup of water, then find a seat and enjoy. I've already been here twice, and after writing about my experience, I need to make a third visit happen very soon! There are not enough days off in a week to enjoy all of the amazing food on this island, but I'm going to do my best to experience as many places as I can. This place is totally worth the 45-minute commute from Wahiawa.

You satisfy all my…read morecravings for soft noodles swimming in steaming broth with not one, not two, but THREE vegan ramen choices. Yay!! (They also have a cold vegan ramen) I waited until I tried all three of the warm vegan ramens to post this review. Each one has a different broth but all are topped with charred fresh vegetables that remain crisp yet melt in your mouth. Mmmmm! Love that they have eggplant and kambocha, simply brilliant! And the noodles are medium with a slight curl. They have great texture and a bouncy bite. But let's get to the broths. The first one I tried was the clear broth. It was light yet complex, fresh yet savory. The next one was the tan tan. It was creamy and nutty, rich but not gritty (like some tan tan ramens). The last one was the tomato broth, so unique and distinct. It was tangy yet sweet and aromatic. (note: they serve this with a shaker of Parmesan cheese to use as a topping, makes culinary sense, but I also don't consume dairy so passed on the topping). Now you're probably wondering which was my favorite. I don't have one. They are all different and delicious! No complaints. Only praise for three impeccably crafted dishes cooked with care. I adore that I can come back and eat whatever suits my flavor fancy. They also serve a vegan karaage. Crunchy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside but enough texture to make it feel 'meaty.' They do a great job with this dish serving it with a small salad tossed lightly with a goma-ish dressing. There is also a side sweet chili dipping sauce. I also am in love with their chips. Seems like a quirky item for a ramen menu but once you have it you realize how much sense it makes. Cut thin like air, the potatoes are cooked to golden perfection and sprinkled with Himalayan sea salt. It's a great crunchy starter before a bowl of warm sumptuous ramen and something other than your typical gyoza... Speaking of gyoza, they don't have a vegan option but my hubby tried it and always orders a side. They have options with cheese and garlic toppings too. Hubby has also tried their tonkatsu and shoyu ramen and slurped it ALL up. He was especially impressed with the shoyu ramen. All this deliciousness is enjoyed in an air-conditioned restaurant with an industrial steam-punk vibe. High and low tables accommodates seating for couples to groups. They also have a lovely lanai if you prefer eating outside. Street metered parking is easy to find, and they also have validated parking in the small lot. Junpuu is right across the Blaisdell Center so it is a great option if you're there for a fair, concert, or other event. The servers are courteous and efficient, and I give their playlist 5 plus stars. I usually find myself tapping my feet or humming along to the well-curated songs, classic and retro. If you are Gen-X you will totally understand! I came to Junpuu looking for a warm vegan ramen, I found three. And I'll keep coming back and rotating through their stellar selection of amazingly tasty noodle soups. Well, that and the karaage and chips. If you are vegan or vegetarian this is a MUST-try place. But you don't have to be to enjoy the bowls of culinary comfort that comes out of the kitchen of Junpuu.
