We went there for lunch, the lady I believe her name was Yuki was sweet and asked if you want brunch or sushi. We asked for sushi menu. It took a while for her to come back to us and take our order, but she ended up being very friendly and sweet so she was fresh. We also tried the soup that was pretty good too. The ambience could maybe use some improvement, but altogether food was fresh. The guy was sweeping the floors as we were eating . I personally don't appreciate that, but I guess it's OK. read more

It's always a concern when I'm in such a major tourist area like Waikiki what I might be getting myself into when I pick a restaurant. Genuine crafted dishes made with pride or "quick lets get them in and out the door" meals? The Sushi Spot Waikiki definitely falls in the former. Let me start off with service. We were immediately welcomed and shown to a table. Our server happily talked about the favorites on the menu which I always appreciate. I noticed that despite being like two blocks from the Pacific that the staff were upscaled with dark collared long sleeves. Coupled with the small venue I would recommend this for an intimate date night. Kinda classy. Food. They take great care crafting their dishes and each dish came out looking like little art pieces with flavor to match. I like that they are not heavy handed on their sauces when making their rolls. Tuna crispy onion. Seared ahi topped with deep fried onions, masago, and unagi sauce. Splendid. The Phoenix Roll. Literally dinner and a show rolled (hahaha pun) into one. Shrimp tempura, salmon spicy mayo and unagi sauce that is literally torched at your table creating a crisp caramelized coat. Keep your face at a respectful distance as you try to take close ups lol. The different textures played well together. The torching could be done in the kitchen so again I think a bit classy that it is done table side. We also got a softshell crab roll and did get an udon but no picture sorry. Sometimes I need to eat before the camera does lol. Would stop here again when in Waikiki! read more

I've worked in Waikiki for many years and I pass by the restaurant every day on my way home. I finally got to try it with my mom tonight! Everything was awesome to say the least. The service, food and atmosphere of the overall restaurant were great 10/10. Our tab came out to about $60 which is normal in Waikiki for three plates of food. Additionally the waitress Yuko asked where my mom and I were from and we let her know that we're actually local! She was delighted, and gave us some mochi ice cream which was so sweet of her! She also let us know when breakfast, lunch and dinner hours are which is awesome (Brunch Spot and Sushi Spot operate out of the same dining room). I will definitely be returning with the rest of my family. read more

Came to Sushi Spot Waikiki, just a walk from Waikiki Beach, a bit late at night with some friends (around 9:30 with a party of 3). We were seated quickly and since ordering is done off a QR code there is little interaction with the staff. However once orders were put in, food came out quickly and it all tasted fresh. The ambiance is pretty casual with a relaxing unwinding vibe. One of the people working in the kitchen even came out to our table and talked about where the fish was caught around the islands, which added a nice inviting layer to the experience. The bathroom toilet was covered in s***, We waited for 1h for any food to come out. The owner basically tore the menu from our hands while we were looking at it to give it to another customer. I witnessed the owner yelling at his staff in front of all the customers. My son's simple teriyaki dinner took 1.2h to come out. And the kicker? The salmonation roll had so little salmon.. The tempura was nice and crispy the toppings were all so fresh the rice was something I had never had before. This all came together beautifully. The coconut flakes and the crab was a great add on. The second one was the red dragon again it came together great. The spicy was not spicy at all it added a great taste to everything. This place is fresh!! For the kids we got the chicken fried rice and the shrimp fried rice. They love it, it was seasoned good the rice and topping were fresh. The shrimp was very very enjoyable it was seasoned perfectly cooked to perfection not Chewy at all the rice was steamed nice. I over all recommend this place this is a must have while on the island. There was a street block festival happening, but it was a rainy Saturday evening so we were looking for a place indoors to grab a bite. Sushi spot is off the main drag just two blocks maybe but I called ahead and they said that we could be seated for a party of two right away. There was no weight compared to some other restaurants on the main drag. As promised, we walked in and we're seated right away. There were plenty of tables occupied, and a handful still available. We ordered edamame and a couple sushi rolls - all were EXCELLENT. I highly recommend this spot. I would say the exterior appears very no-frills but inside it's welcoming clean and what really matters is of course the quality of the food and service which sushi spot delivers on. read more

We also had a shumai appetizer, which was good, and the sushi deluxe combo which was awesome. We got to try so many different types of sushi. Only wish the pieces were cut in half since I shared it with my son. The place is small but they do have some outdoor dining. Service is a bit slow but they are very nice, and the rolls/appetizers came out in a weird order. I think they assume that you are all sharing but my wife doesn't eat all the food my son and I do. From the outside, Sushi Spot looks really inviting and promising. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to that first impression. Once seated, we were asked to order entirely through a QR code. I understand that many places are moving in that direction, but it took away from the experience. Part of what makes Japanese dining special is the attention to detail and the human connection. That element just wasn't there. The food was also disappointing. The karaage was tough and dry, and the pork was the same. It didn't have the quality or care I was expecting. Overall, it wasn't the experience I had hoped for. So we brought our parents back on Thursday night for their sushi rolls and fresh sashimi. They really enjoyed the sashimi boat, miso butterfish meal, hamachi maki, Sushi Spot signatures, Ume-Amazing Tuna rolls, and Diamond Head rolls. The rolls are unique and full of flavor. This time, however, the service fell short. They seemed short-staffed with only one server working, so it took quite a while to place our order and receive our food. With a party of five, there was also an automatic 20% gratuity . We don't mind paying that when the service reflects it, but the delay affected our family's dining experience. The lady server was kind and apologized. The restaurant itself isn't fancy, but it has a cozy, family-owned feel and consistently tasty dishes. We flew in late to Honolulu and wanted to eat somewhere near by. This place was a short walk to our hotel. We got seated but since we were a party of 5, the hostess said that we are automatically going to get charged an additional 25% gratuity which we didn't have an issue with. We got two sushi rolls, fried rice, and some refreshing drinks. We were seated outside and felt left alone. Had to flag the waiter to get a to go box and the check. Didn't really check up on us etc. When I went to pay for the bill I paid cash since it will save me 4% but the waitress got confused and didn't come back with my change so I had to go flag her down then she forgot to charge me the 25% gratuity so if I didn't ask for my change I would have saved 16 bucks but since I was being nice paid the extra gratuity among the confusion when if she didn't charge me why would I pay for it???? Anyways - they just need to get their mathematics right. I think for other folks near here there are other places to eat. read more
