My first omakase! I'm not sure why this place doesn't have better reviews because I had a great experience. The chef was really friendly he tried to make conversation when he could and he explained to us what each dish was, I didn't feel rushed. The sushi was seasoned well and not salty. It does get a little warm so my recommendation is to bring a portable fan which we did (even the other party did as well). It does get a little loud at 6 pm from the live music, but it didn't bother me so much since I was concentrated on watching the chef make the sushi. It wasn't that hard to find at the food court, there was only one bar with a black curtain. Overall I had a great experience. Will definitely come back again!

Here's a brief, honest review you can use: Disappointing Omakase Experience Unfortunately, this omakase fell short of expectations. I was rushed through a 16-course meal with barely any time to savor or enjoy each dish. There was little to no explanation about the items being served, which took away from the overall experience and appreciation of the chef's work. While the sushi was decent, it wasn't memorable or up to par with what you'd expect at this price point. Omakase should feel personal and curated -- this felt like a race. Would not recommend for those looking for a true omakase experience.$175 with taxes ans corkage fee.

Service 5/5 -- Server was very attentive. Chef was efficient and kept good timing between each piece Ambiance 4/5 -- Located behind a curtain in the food hall which was difficult to find. Noise level increased towards the end of the meal, live singers performed in the food hall. Dining area was very warm during the meal (perhaps just me) Food 4/5 -- 16-course omakase. Food was good, some really outperformed others. Good amount of soy sauce for my taste, but heavy on the rice and wasabi; it wasn't spread across the rice very well. I got full quickly and left the meal feeling stuffed. Decent value, paid $345 for two including 2 beers + tip. Not the most impressive omakase I've had but a pleasant experience overall. I would consider coming back

This place was so good!!! it's a little hidden but if you go into the international market place they have a food area to the right and in the corner that's where you'll find it. The chef made the most delicious dish's and explained what it was, the server was so kind and attentive! Such a great experience

There are many Omakase choices in Honolulu but $125- seems like a bargain. Located in the corner at Kuhio Food Hall I wasn't sure what to expect. Turned out to be a cozy spot. It can be a little loud but softens as the evening continues. The 16 courses were interesting and moved right along. We liked it. BYOB for now and validated parking at IMP

The omakase experience is hidden in the back of the food hall behind a black curtain. It's loud and kind of a speakeasy vibe. The ambiance was actually kind of nice though overall-- surprisingly. Chef Ogame seems extremely nice and dedicated as a chef so I feel bad but my honest review was that the Omakase pieces were just not right. I really wanted to like this place. I did not feel that the food justified the price (I think it was like $125 per person). The pieces were either too salty or unseasoned. Midway through I started feeling apprehensive whenever I saw him add any soy sauce or seasoning to the fish...and I'm honestly someone who likes things more on the salty side. The level of saltiness had me wondering if there was an unhealthy amount of salt in the food --like it wasn't even just about the taste. The egg at the beginning was delicious though (this one was not too salty) which was a redeeming piece. The uni looked delicious but didn't taste as good as it looked. Overall the omakase was not worth the price and there are so many better options in Oahu.

Excellent food and service. Some of the best sushi I have had outside Japan. One of only two places, this, and the now defunct Maru Sushi. Service was excellent; timely but not rushed. The food was perfectly prepared, presented and served. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. This is a pop up which is only open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and therefore being set in a corner of the food hall it can get a little noisy towards the end of the evening, only to be expected. Be prepared for that. There are two seatings: 5:30 and 7:30, the first would avoid the noise but -might- seem rushed as they have to prepare for the second seating. Whenever two seatings are available for Omakase I always choose the second to avoid this. The noise didn't bother me as I was concentrating on the food and service. The price currently, August 2025, is $125 plus tax, tip and whatever you decide to drink. I felt it was well worth it. Oishi. I wiil be here again.

A hidden gem! We had a wonderful time. Chef Koichi Ogame prepared an array of the best hand picked blue fin nigiri that I've ever tasted. The ambiance was serene and intimate. I would recommend to get there early so you can find the restaurant behind a black curtain to block out the outside patrons. We even got a quick Japanese lesson from the manager there. Very friendly and professional. We will come back again to see him before we set off to Japan! Mahalo!

I've known this chef OGAME for many years and he is AWSOME! Been looking for where he went $125 for OMAKASE w/ these valuable sushi A la carte has much more value. Go to sushi in Waikiki now!! On line reservation is recommended.

Sushi Ogame is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for dinner.Very creative Omakase style. Very casual atmosphere. You will enjoy the chef's laid back style! Very relaxing. Enjoy the best of Japan and Hawaii in a very unique comfortable setting! Located in the Kuhio Ave. food hall.

I was blessed to experience the soft opening of this sushi restaurant. As a sushi lover and having experienced eating sushi all over Japan and in Hawaii, the sushi here has by far been the BEST sushi I have ever eaten. There are only 8 seats per seating so make your reservation ASAP! Make your reservation on Yelp or DM on Instagram NOW before seats run out.

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole dining experience. Especially loved the nodoguro. Everything was delicious, service was friendly.

YES CRAB MISO SOUP! ) and one with a mix of everything. They were all delicious. They even have recommendations on how to enjoy them best especially if you get the egg yolk shoyu to add to it. I highly suggest you do - absolute game changer! Our little one enjoyed a small bowl of udon as well. The ambiance is chill considering the seating is very limited (15 seats approximately). It's all bar seating arrangement where you can see the staff cook the food. Oh, by the way, we saw Amy Hill here! It takes something familiar, strips away the unnecessary decisions and turns it into a process that's incredibly easy to enjoy. The restaurant is tiny, but everything feels deliberate. The staff keeps things moving without making you feel rushed, our waitress was genuinely wonderful with our kids and even the people waiting around us couldn't have been friendlier. It felt like everyone was in on the same little secret. The first surprise wasn't even the fish. It was the cabbage salad. Shredded cabbage, crispy noodles, miso yuzu dressing. That's it. Somehow it's one of the best salads I've had in a long time. It's the kind of dish that makes you wonder why nobody else bothers to do something so simple this well. Then came the negitoro bowl. The ikura shower is absolutely worth the extra ten bucks. Yes, it's a little theatrical with the bell ringing, but if you're going to pour an avalanche of salmon roe over my bowl, you might as well make a show of it. The crab miso soup upgrade is another easy yes. The crab almost feels like they're apologizing in advance for ruining every ordinary bowl of miso soup you'll have afterward. It isn't perfect but nothing is. The rice was a little clumpy and needed to be broken apart. After a while, the flavors begin to blend together more than I expected and those beautiful sheets of nori lose the battle against Hawaii's humidity pretty quickly. They look incredible, but they become soft before you can really enjoy them. I also wish I could order another bowl of that cabbage salad by itself. Our kids demolished the udon. Perfect texture, comforting broth and probably the easiest win of the entire meal. Will we come back? Absolutely. Totoya isn't trying to reinvent Japanese food. It's taking a handful of excellent ingredients, removing the friction and executing the experience with remarkable consistency. Sometimes that's what great restaurants do.

That detail set the mood right away. Inside, it is definitely larger and roomier than many places we've eaten at in Japan, but it still had that warm, simple, Japanese restaurant feel. We sat at a two-person table and still had plenty of room for all of our food, which is always appreciated because nobody wants to play plate Tetris during dinner. We ordered the Wagyu and the chicken tonkatsu, and both were so good. The Wagyu was especially fun because we got to grill it ourselves at the table, making the meal feel more like an experience than just dinner. The chicken tonkatsu was crispy, juicy, and exactly what we were hoping for. I also loved that they offer refills on the cabbage and vegetables, just like in Japan. It's one of those small touches that makes the whole meal feel more authentic. The highest praise came from my preteen, who said it was the best tonkatsu he's had outside of Japan. Honestly, that is a serious review from a kid who knows his tonkatsu. Great food, fun experience, nice ambiance, and a little Japan-in-Honolulu moment. We'll definitely be back.

We attempted to make reservations, but they were completely booked until the following month. Since we didn't want to miss out, we decided to order their most popular tonkatsu meal to go instead. When we arrived, there were already a lot of people waiting outside. I went in to check on our order, and they let me know it would be another 10-15 minutes. Since it was a hot day, we wandered over to the crystal-themed shop next door while we waited. It had lots of interesting items to browse, although we ended up leaving empty handed. About 15 minutes later our order was ready, and we Ubered back to our hotel, which only took a few minutes. When we opened everything up, the portion felt a bit small for the price. The tonkatsu itself was tender, but for us it didn't quite live up to all the hype. I did appreciate that you can choose clam soup instead of the traditional miso soup, and there are different rice options as well, which is a nice touch. Overall, it was a good meal, but not one that completely wowed us given the price. It's possible the experience would have been different dining in, but with the long waitlist and the hot weather, takeout was the better choice for us.

There was a couple in front of us who said they come here every time they visit Hawaiʻi and that it's a must-do stop on every trip. When you walk in, it's a small place. You can watch a team member washing the noodles and portioning them into bowls right in front of you. Then you choose your bowl size, small or large, and select your broth. After that, you get to choose from a variety of fried items and other à la carte options displayed on a warmer. Seating can be limited because of how busy this place gets. You line up to get your food, pay for it, grab your condiments, utensils, and a cup of water, then find a seat and enjoy. I've already been here twice, and after writing about my experience, I need to make a third visit happen very soon!
