Soba yu! Got to have as an ending broth to drink.
GLENN F.

The other day had Ten Zaru Soba, and was delicious as always, the soba cooked perfectly, the tempura sweet and delicate. No forget the soba yu!

The best soba on the island! The noodles are perfectly cooked, the broth is rich and flavorful, and everything tastes incredibly fresh. The tempura is also delicious--light, crispy, and a great complement to the meal. Definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to every time I am craving soba!

This is a casual sit-down Japanese restaurant located in a strip mall on South King Street in Honolulu. There is free parking available, although the lot is relatively small -- it seemed to have around 12-16 spaces -- so parking can sometimes be a bit tight during busy hours. Still, the location makes it convenient to stop by for both lunch and dinner. The restaurant has a strong reputation among Japanese customers, which always gives me confidence. The clientele is quite diverse -- Americans, Japanese-Americans, locals, and repeat visitors to Hawaii -- which shows how widely loved it is. They offer great value lunch sets, often combining soba with tempura or sushi, making it easy to enjoy a balanced Japanese meal. I visited for lunch with a female friend, and we were both very satisfied. The soba noodles here are thin and well-prepared, and the broth follows traditional Japanese standards. The flavor is clean, refined, and truly suited to Japanese palates -- not overly sweet or heavy, just beautifully balanced. It tastes authentic. The tempura is also excellent and very popular among tempura lovers. It is lightly battered and perfectly crisp. One thing I really appreciate is that they offer half-size and large-size options for the soba noodles, which is perfect if you want to try multiple dishes or adjust your portion size. Here's what we ordered: * Vegetable tempura with regular-sized soba noodles * Half-sized curry soba with duck * White fish nigiri sushi (flounder and grunt) * Half-sized mushroom soba with grated daikon radish and whitebait Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. In the evening, the restaurant shifts to an izakaya-style menu that pairs well with a wide selection of alcoholic beverages. Whether you visit for lunch or dinner, the food is consistently delicious, satisfying, and high quality. This has become one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. I will definitely be back. I would be happy if this post was helpful to someone. It would be encouraging if you could express your feelings by clicking the reaction button.

Casual sit-down Japanese eats in a strip mall. Went here for a weekend dinner. Parking was potentially tough - their parking lot was a bit small, but was able to find a spot. Glad we made an RSVP as there was a wait. Ended up ordering soba (of course), some uni, and some tempura. Everything was delicious and wasn't too crazy price-wise. Would def recommend!

This is a truly authentic Japanese restaurant. The service was great and the hot green tea tasted like how it is in Japan. The food also tasted JUST like how soba tastes like in Japan. I loved eating here it reminded me of being overseas. The parking lot is a little small but there is ample street parking. I got the dipping soba both times I went and the noodles were perfect. Also ordered a bunch of other items with the people I brought and everything was delicious!

Driving back towards Waikiki, this was a quick stop for dinner. It was early, so we got seats at the sushi bar. Service was good, and the food came out quickly. Lots of locals and a few patrons from Japan. I tried practicing my Japanese with the waitress, but she answered in English...I need more practice. When we left, there were a lot of people waiting outside. It was a Friday, so a crowd was expected. We just timed it right. It is BYOB, which is fine. Just go, enjoy the soba and uni/maguro bowls. The cheesecake dessert was pretty good too.

Decided to try I-Naba for the very first time! I can't believe I've never eaten here before. I think I just always forget, but I'm glad I didn't this time! Parking is a little rough. It's a small lot, but there are some street parking on King street. Just make sure to go early and be ready to look for parking if needed. Once we got in on the weekend, we walked in and the two of us got seated right away! Very much like in Japan, tables are a bit close together or there are bar seats. It was so tough to decide what to eat as the menu has a lot of good items! I chose the Hana set which was cold soba noodles that had uni and ikura inside. It also came with rice and tempura! So much good and so good!!! I did not regret my choice! Wow ! We had to get dessert and got the fried mochi and azuki bean. Yummmmm! Came out fresh!!! New favorite place to eat. Great service. They give hot tea when you are done eating your food. Yum!

Hard days can be commonplace here in the islands Some people and their families may work two to three jobs just to make ends meet Some people...may not even have family or may be without work! Life is hard! So when you have had enough and you need a 'me time' break...I recommend Inaba. This location has served us well for high quality, comforting Japanese food. From the service to the convenient location...this is a great spot. The parking can be a little difficult, but if all else fails, there is street parking. The win is next store. Baskin Robbins is conveniently located 15 steps away...so plan your meal accordingly.... This wont be the least expensive meal you have had all week, and it sometimes gets crowded...but this place really delivers. They have recently had unagi specials, so I usually order ot in tempura form...but there are many options, including sushi...and a sushi bar. There are many reviews on soba, and they are correct. The soba is delicious. But soba eating here....comes with a few instructions...please try not to laugh too hard... After one of my earlier soba meals here, I was served one small rectangular teapot....with no teacup and no instructions. I touch it...its piping hot. Maybe..maybe.. Is it to wash my hands with? I pour a little and burn my fingers...HOT!! Maybe...? My wife finally asks the nice server... She said its soba cooking water...very nutritious. Pour some into your leftover soba dipping sauce and drink it! Omg...we never laughed so hard Also my wife took away my Japanese card....that was sad. See you there!

Inaba Curry soba, unaju, and tamagomaki are totally my style here. Every dish tastes clean, comforting, and well-balanced--one of those places where you actually feel better after eating. The curry soba is rich but not heavy, the unaju is perfectly cooked and flavorful, and the tamagomaki is soft, slightly sweet, and just right. Food comes out quickly, which I really appreciate. I've been here twice at night without a reservation and got in both times with no problem. Service is friendly and efficient, and the overall vibe is calm and welcoming. Great spot if you're looking for delicious Japanese food that feels wholesome and satisfying. Definitely a repeat place for me

It's been a while since I've been to Inaba. Today we had a nice lunch with the jumbo shrimp and soba combo. The table that we sat at has a bad draft from the sliding door. They know thus so our server kindly placed a screen next to me to deflect the warm draft. Food was very good, actually too much for me. Tempura was nice and big. Portion of kake soba was very large. I'd order less food next time.

I called to make a lunch reservation a week ahead. Our table was ready, even though we arrived early. Their menu was extensive and plenty of soba combinations to make. They also had a specials menu with salmon collar and niku soba. Our party of four each ordered an entree and the portions were generous. All of our soba combination plates included a side of rice. I think my niku soba submerged in the broth was too salty for my preference. But the dipping soba broth was more balanced, probably easier to control broth/salt flavor. Regarding the soba noodles, it had the perfect texture and consistency. At the end of our meal, our waitress brought over additional starch water to drink. There is also directions on how to consume it and its benefits. For anyone visiting, I think this is a good stop to try something different, but they also have plenty of locations in California.

I-Naba always hits the spot when in Hawaii! I've made it a point to visit on my past two trips to Oahu. It definitely reminds me of being in Japan. I like the tempura DX with soba, the hana soba, or the chirashi bowl with soba! You can't go wrong with any soba dish here. The unagi is also really good and not smothered in too much sauce. Service is really friendly. The last time I went, my husband and I brought our six month old baby in his stroller, and staff was super accommodating!

Went to I-Naba for lunch they are in a small complex on king street in the Mccully area. I ordered the Kake soba set which comes with hot soba noodles and a choice of rice, which I ordered rice with mushroom and it came with a small dish with Takuwan pickle daikon. On the table we also were served a small dish with edamame about 5 pieces. The menu list is pretty large and the customers were constantly coming in. They have a few table seating about 5 for 2 or 4 and counter seating, they seem pretty busy, so it would be better to make reservations ahead of time. Out of the 4 couples came in only 1 couple didn't have reservations the rest did. Parking is limited in a small parking lot they share with other business like Basket & Robins and a Korea take out restaurant. Service was fast and service was good.

If you come in at 5:00pm, would you typically have to wait or get seated immediately?

On most evenings, coming at opening can mean a table right away. I guess this would be impromptu, because otherwise a reservation would be good. Dine forget BYOB!

What happened to the sushi bar? We try to go there every time we visit Japan. The sushi bar was a new addition last year when we came but now it sits there unmanned.

Is your soba gluten free?

It's def not. they will tell you it is but it's not. please avoid!!

Are they open for dine in now?

Yes they are. The new normal is Max 10 per party. Reservations is required. No walk-ins. No dining between 10-11am and 3-5pm for cleaning. There is a 45-monute limit seating time. Picking up is anytime.

Is there a special menu for takeout during this period of time?

When we went there two weeks ago for take out, they said their whole menu was available for take out even the breakfast and evening menu. Sushi was available too. A few items were out but I think they didn't have it at that time.

Do they take reservations?

Yes, they certainly do!

It tastes good, but I personally didn't want so much. They also unexpectedly put some mayo on the hamachi nigiri pieces. I would have preferred it plain. There are meals one enjoys. Meals one admires. Meals one respectfully documents, notes the flavor balance of, and later describes using words like "elegant" and "well-executed." And then there are meals that rock your world. This was one of them. Kaiten sushi, or conveyor belt sushi, is a casual, affordable Japanese dining style invented in 1958 where plates of sushi rotate on a motorized belt passing diners, allowing them to select dishes directly. Here at Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera, it's not the typical catwalk of pre-made maki rolls, nigiri, and other offering. You order off a kiosk and then it is fast-tracked to your table via sushi belt. Here at Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera, you are granted the ability to try their Edomae-style sushi for a more affordable price. Edomae-style sushi is a traditional Tokyo cuisine originating in the 1820s, featuring seafood, often cured, marinated, or simmered, served atop rice seasoned with red vinegar (akasu). It focuses on enhancing fish flavor through technique rather than just raw freshness, historically acting as fast food for 19th-century Edo residents. That said, dare I say the best meal I had during my stay on Oahu? I DARE! This was an excellent place suggested by Randy S. I would have ordered more but I was not very assertive and everyone wanted the iPad . Most of the nigiri orders were only one at the price point I am used to paying for two and I prefer the experience of sharing. My husband at the other table sampled more than I did. Deep fried Octopus and Toro, I had Yellow Tail and Carpacio, sample two rolls. Big surprise, the French fries were outstanding. The check worked out to about 50 pp. I think that was mostly my husband who enjoyed an array of dishes. As mentioned in other reviews, the bill stacks up quickly. We are staying at the hotel, Prince Waikiki, and based on the rave reviews, we expected a flawless, high-end meal. While the restaurant looks clean and accurately mimics a true Japan dining atmosphere, the kitchen execution and lack of basic customer service completely ruined our celebration. My husband ordered the Yokozuna set and 2 Kanimiso Gunkans, and I ordered the Ozeki set (we both substituted our Ikura, and he got the Big Shrimp). While chewing his premium Toro, my husband hit a massive fish bone. It was huge, a legitimate, dangerous choking hazard. For a restaurant charging top-dollar for high-grade tuna, a bone of that size getting past a sushi chef is completely unacceptable. When my husband showed the bone to our waitress, she just casually said she would "inform the chefs." That was it. No manager ever came over, no one apologized, and they didn't even adjust our bill. We were forced to pay full premium price for a dish that nearly choked my husband. The pacing was completely mismatched. My husband's food arrived almost immediately, but my Ozeki set took an incredibly long time to come out. Because he didn't want to start eating without me on our first date, his sushi just sat on the table getting warm. The kitchen was running painfully slow, which made no sense because the restaurant wasn't even fully seated yet. Just that little moment left a bad impression and would have been worse if my husband choked. I honestly could have just went to genki sushi, never gotten bones in my fish there. Overall, sushi was good but not something to rave over. to pay that much for sushi I was expecting more, and this fell flat.

After walking around, the hostess asked if we had a reservation. I gave her my name, but she said we didn't have one, even though the restaurant was nearly empty. She then explained that our reservation was actually at their sister restaurant around the other side of the building. We went over there and found that it was primarily a sushi restaurant, which wasn't really what we were looking for. We had expected more of an izakaya-style experience, so we canceled the reservation and returned to the original restaurant. Once seated, the service was good and our server was attentive throughout the meal. One thing that was a little confusing was that sushi and sashimi had to be ordered from the sister restaurant, even though we were dining in the other restaurant. The food was brought over and served to us without any issues, and there were no problems with the bill, but it took us a while to understand how the two restaurants operated together. We ordered several dishes, including chicken skin wrapped gyoza, crab tempura, an assorted sashimi platter, a cream cheese and fish roe appetizer served with toast, an egg dish topped with fish roe, chicken karaage, and the miso butterfish. The highlights for me were the chicken karaage, miso butterfish, and gyoza. I enjoyed them enough to order another round of the gyoza and chicken. That said, many of the dishes leaned toward the sweeter side of Japanese cuisine, which just isn't my personal preference. If you enjoy those flavors, your experience may be different. Overall, the food was good, the service was solid, and there were a few standout dishes. The confusion with the reservation, entrance setup, and relationship between the two restaurants got the evening off to an awkward start, but the meal improved once we were seated. I'm not really a Japanese food person, so four stars is probably the highest rating I could realistically give a Japanese restaurant. With that in mind, I thought they did a good job, and there were a few dishes I would consider ordering again.

If you follow my Yelp reviews and sushi reviews you KNOW we are indeed global sushi "experts" from San Francisco, to NYC, Miami, Tel Aviv and everywhere in between. We were in town for the King Kamehameha Day and weekend parades and celebrations. Our son is a rising Senior at University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and two of his friends joined our party of six which our son made the Sunday evening reservations. My mother-in-law was using a scooter this trip and JP was very generous & helpful in accommodating our "parking" needs inside the restaurant. We were seated in a "prefect" table outside overlooking the Wakiki strip. Our server John was very welcoming, hospitable and kind. As we settled in and reviewed our massive menus which "like reading a newspaper" has just about everything to accommodate any diner needs. Unfortunately, a light rain and drizzle happening requiring us to relocate inside in a very comfortable table at the front of the restaurant that John took full charge in making our "transition" simple and quickly. Now, the sushi selections were very unique, amble, beautiful and delicious! Our creative cocktails and entree selections are too extensive for this dyslexic to list here. I took a photo and it is listed in the photos. Our sushi experience was amazing! Highly recommend Doraku Sushi Waikiki! Manager JP and Server John rock!

There were standouts and overall we loved the meal. A local id gets the 10% service fee removed which was nice. I would recommend the $150 lunch omakase - I don't think the $50 abalone dish was worth the upgrade.

Every piece of sushi was beautifully presented not overwhelming. You can really tell the chefs put a lot of thought into the balance of flavors and textures. One of my favorite bites was a sashimi piece topped with something that looked like finely grated cheese (not sure what it actually was), but it melted perfectly with the fish and added a really unique savory flavor. The chefs and staff also had a good sense of humor. At one point they served kinki fish and jokingly explained that the English translation sometimes gets called "idiot fish," which got everyone laughing at the counter. The omakase is definitely on the pricier side, but the quality, presentation, and overall experience made it very satisfying. If you're looking for a refined sushi experience with great service and beautifully crafted bites, this place is worth the splurge.

DOMO Café, you do NOT disappoint! Domo's Kahala location has quickly become our go-to, grab-and-go…read moresushi joint. Although they have a clean and comfortable space for dining in, we regularly stop by after church or on the weekends for something to savor at our favorite park. Seriously, it's easy to enjoy their bowls, sushi sets, or bentos anytime and anyplace. We've got a passion for this place. Here's how this love affair started...I discovered Domo when a friend invited me for some sushi and sips at her place. I was amazed at the beautiful platter of sushi that accompanied our sake and wine. My friends are the best hosts! I devoured the bombs, nigiris and rolls (in between sips!). Everything was simply delicious! Fast forward a few months, I order a couple sushi sets to host a poolside, golden-hour birthday get together at my other friend's home. (I know, you want to be part of this squad, right?!). Anyway, using the online order system is a snap! My hubby went in to pick up the sushi and said they were slammed but our sushi sets were ready to go. This time we ordered some ikura because the hubby and my bestie are big fans. Both agree it was fresh and fantastic! And the garlic set with the flash-seared fish and a hint of mayo is a MUST-try. We also ordered a California roll for my friend's aunt who is not really a sushi fan. She delighted in several pieces and even enjoyed the nigiri from the garlic set. Total convert! After enjoying the platters and sets, we had to try the bentos and bowls. This time it's just us and the pup at the park. The bentos provide a great variety and comes with miso soup. The hubby really likes the shrimp tempura with ahi and salmon nigiri and ahi poke. It's a steal at less than $20. I'm a bowl girl myself and like the spicy tempura. The tempura is cooked crisp yet tender. The spicy ahi poke combined with the creamy crab salad and the crunchy ocean salad delights all my tastes buds. It's truly an adventure in finding the perfect bite--and there are so many in this bowl! I also love the seared salmon bowl. It is melt-in-your-mouth goodness. I add the fried onions for some texture. You know a place is top-notch when you can feel confident that anything off their menu will satisfy your cravings. Because this is a Yelp review, here are some helpful tips. For sushi platters, pre-order. The online system is simple to use. Service is fast and efficient if you're just walking in for a quick bite or to grab something to go. Parking has always been easy for us to find in the small lot in the complex where Domo is located. It's right next to Assagio's Kahala. But if you're worried about parking, I suggest ordering in advance and then just picking up. This works great during peak dining hours. If you want fresh, delicious sushi that is reasonably priced be like us and visit Domo Café. You will probably also be like us and want to go back to try more.

The garlic salmon didn't have too much smokiness which I liked. They are not stingy when filling the inari with the spicy ahi. I did online ordering for easy pick up since the parking lot can be filled during dinner rush.
