Hidden away omakase a bit away from the Waikiki beach area. Came here for a Saturday dinner. Parking is free - but is a bit easy to get lost trying to make your way to the restaurant from the parking garage (follow their instructions haha). Had an RSVP and was sat immediately. Was a little bit crowded - sushi bar seating only. Drinks were very good, as was all the sushi dishes. Was a very good time and the chefs were very nice. The only negative would be the spacing as it is pretty cramped. Would recommend as a nice sushi omakase spot!

What a remarkable little spot. It took me a while to find it tucked into the back of Nimitz Center. The door slides open. Not push/pull. The service was on point. Dishes swapped out. Ginger refilled. Water refilled. Wasabi was freshly grated. Perfection. A cozy little dose of wonder. We came to have a small meal before night shenanigans. The small omakase. Wow. Every dish was well thought out and built up on the previous dish. I was surprised at how much I loved every dish. It helps to have someone special to share it with. I would never have come here by myself. And I would have missed out. What an amazing spread for even the lowest omakase option. The deep fried shirako, the seared dishes, the toro with foie gras, the wagyu w truffle... everything was out of the park. 100 bucks. How? I even found myself munching on fried shrimp legs. I normally don't. The miso soup. The damn dessert. Absolutely monstrous deals. I stopped taking pics, I was lost in the sauce. I can only hope for more chances to eat here.

Walked in solo early and they actually had a spot for me and I did the $150 omakase it was stellar. Lots of variation and wonderful. Thx I'll be back.

Hands down this place legit great. At first it was somewhat confusing to find the restaurant, we folllow the parking signage to get to the general area located inside a lobby and theres a black door with no sign at the unit. We opened the door to confirm they are actually there. They do send instructions via text when you book so that was helpful, it's just lengthy and can reference it when u park. The food was really really good, taste, proportions and portion was on point! Left the place full and satisfied! The restaurant has only counter seats, about 10 seats. Its a nice cozy spot and their price was quite reasonable because of the portion they offer. Meaning each course would have 2-3 pieces of sushi vs. one piece at a time. Would recommend and would definitely go back

Came here for the $150 omakase. Food was great and I went home with a fully belly! The course included few appetizers, pieces of nigiri, a hand roll and a bite of yuzu sorbet as the dessert. I love how there's a variety of things with foie gras and Wagyu beef incorporated into the dishes. The chef did a good job with the creativity without being too excessive and redundant with the ingredients, like putting gold flakes on food (not a fan of that). The highlight for me was the toasted rice with tuna, their white fish nigiri, the botan shrimp with deep fried shrimp head, the toro, the Santa Barbara uni!!!! My goodness haven't had those firm, sweet, large pieces of SB uni for a long time! (I like Hokkaido ones too, but it's nice to have something different.) I didn't care much for the Wagyu nigiri because it had some chewy tendon for my piece. And the first tuna appetizer was just ok. Also I wish the dessert was more than just a small scoop of sorbet. It's more like a palette cleanser than a dessert... Service was great. Two chefs were working there and both were friendly, so was the server. I overheard one of the chefs used to work at Nobu. It could be a bit hard to find but just make sure you go to the other end of the covered garage, and the restaurant is located at the little courtyard with rocks but no water. I think for $150 pp, the amount of food served was sufficient. I didn't go home hungry and the food quality was good. Also I like how they don't have a set time for seating. We booked a reservation for 6:30pm. I would recommend giving this place a try for their omakase!

Birthday Sushi Outing for Hubs- an annual event. First things first.....this place is tucked away. I've been to the Nimitz center more times than I can remember. From like hanabata times. And I didn't ever know there was this nook. It was super cool. There's the cute little courtyard and the door that, honestly, I didn't know if I should open at first. When our reservation time came up, I had the courage to slide open the door. What a great space inside. Cute counter with a very friendly lady who greeted us. I don't know what I was expecting, and why I was ever nervous. We were seated and started to check out the menu. We got the Omakase Sashimi Sushi Set Toro's signature sashimi set. 12 seasonal varieties of premium fish and shellfish, thoughtfully paired with your choice of rice, nori seaweed, a palette of artisanal seasonings and Hawaiian Salt's, and a comforting bowl of miso soup. Daily selections vary based on the finest available ingredients. It was fun and tasty. We had a great time and ate well. It's someplace we would feel comfortable having a meal together with our kids too! They say it's kid friendly so we will try that soon!

Came here for my birthday and chose the $150 omakase experience--and overall, it was such a great night. The staff were super friendly and made the evening feel really special. They even surprised us with free matcha desserts at the end, which was such a sweet touch! The nigiri was amazing, super fresh, well-balanced, and beautifully presented. Each piece felt thoughtful and high-quality, exactly what you hope for in an omakase. That said, the appetizers weren't really my favorite, they weren't bad, just not as impressive as the sushi course. But the experience as a whole made up for it. If you're looking for a special dinner with great service and fresh sushi, I'd definitely recommend Toro Omakase. Especially if you're celebrating something!

Tucked away in the business center of Kalihi, I found Toro to be a hidden and unexpected escape to Japan! I experienced their lunch menu and really appreciated the elegance and craftsmanship of the dishes. Although it was lunch, it had an essence of fine dining to it. I recommend ordering the Omakase Sashimi Sushi Set and/or Crab, Uni, and Ikura. Quality and well-balanced palate! The ambiance has an exclusive feel. It's bar seating and you're up close with the sushi chef. We were the only ones during the lunch hour so it really felt like private dining. I'd definitely recommend for a gals day or date night.

I met up with Auntie for dinner. She suggested this place and made reservations. You really should make reservations if you plan on coming here. I counted about 10 seats in the restaurant and maybe two to three tables on the outside. Seating on the inside was tight. They recommend that everyone in the group order the same items. I don't like to do omakase. I like to know what I'm getting, so we ordered off the a la carte nigiri menu. We ordered two sets of two pieces of toro $10 each, salmon $6 each, scallop $8 each, snow crab $10 each and uni $12 each. We each paid $92 for eight pieces of nigiri before tax and tip, which I thought was pretty pricey. The food was good and the ingredients were fresh. It was dope to see the sushi chef cutting the fish and making our nigiri. Toro is behind Eagle Cafe on Nimitz. The hostess assisting us told us that we didn't have to pay for parking, so don't need to scan the parking code.

Sushi in Honolulu, Hawaii... My friend and I were interested in trying TORO and made reservations online through the RESY app. We were texted the menu by the business and given helpful, detailed parking instructions. Thank you! They also included information about alcohol and their BYOB policy. They also asked if we could order the same menu selections... no problem. I texted back that we would like the Crab, uni, ikura set. They replied that that's a lunch option only. We tried to cancel our reservation, but we would be charged $50 on RESY. We decided to do à la carte instead of omakase. I followed the parking directions and TORO was easy to find because I knew where Other Realms is... and I have been to Malama Kitchen. The interior is very cozy. For ten counter seats, every inch is used. Our waitress did make suggestions such as adding caviar to our toro. She seemed to understand that we wanted ten pieces each: two of each of the five items for each of us. The sushi chef didn't get it and said, "My bad". He wasn't very interactive, but he was efficient and had great technique.. The uni, salmon, scallops, toro, and crab were all fresh. I should have asked for "no wasabi", but I powered through. The king crab was replaced by snow crab - no biggie. Overall, it was an ok experience. We were able to have separate checks. I appreciate that!

We enjoyed an early happy hour at TORO. It's a small restaurant so everyone has a front seat to the chefs making your food. While this is fun at other sushi places, this one is more serious vibes and there's no small talk or sharing drinks with the staff. Perhaps it's a bit more laid back later in the night. They played 80's music, heavy emphasis on Michael Jackson. Thriller played as we ate quality sushi. It was a bit of a juxtaposition in my mind but hey, I'll "roll" with it! Standout dishes were: Uni- very creamy and fresh Spicy ahi on crispy rice has nice flavor/ texture combo. Ikura was very fresh. The cheeseburger slider (I know, I sound so basic to call it out as a wonderful dish on a sushi menu but it is really good)! It has a char on the meat and the bun is so soft. The rest of the dishes were good. I think they might use old rice when they first open bc it was kind of hard and cold and the nigiri pieces just fell apart when I dipped them (fish side down, lightly) in my soy sauce. Definitely not the top notch rice I'd expect at a restaurant with this price point, even for happy hour prices. The otoro nigiri. I could tell it was good quality but I could see my rice peeking out from under the thin fish. The salmon nigiri didn't seem like it was the premium piece we got served. It was tasty but I've definitely had better. I'd skip the sashimi next time. It was very small for the price and the only standout piece of fish flavor wise was the hamachi. There was 2 thick slices of tako, one was so chewy I had to spit it out in my napkin. And I'm pretty fearless with food. The wagyu was ok and I think wagyu should always be amazing. Period. It's very thinly sliced but it was chewy (I had to eat each piece in one bite bc I couldn't cut it with my teeth without a tug of war). The sauce was overpowering. I'd prefer fewer pieces of higher quality meat and no sauce (maybe sauce and salt on the side). The rainbow tiridito is raw fish (ahi, hamachi and salmon) rolled and served in a tart citrus sauce. It is topped with jalapeños and fresh peppers. I think the sauce and toppings overpower the fish. I saw what cuts were being used to make it and it's definitely not the premium stuff (perhaps from the day before, hence the sauces). The salad has fresh greens but the yuzu dressing is overly tart IMO and there's no oil in the dressing. There's not much to it, just greens and some onion. They make a mean mai tai for a Japanese restaurant. Overall it was $200 before tip for 2 of us and we only ordered HH menu items. For the price, the service was on point, I just think the food didn't add up for the price even though they offer a heavy discount for HH. I don't think I'd do the omakase. I LOVE sauces (I'm the condiment queen) but I think this place overdoes it with sauces and it skews very tart and citrus so it distracts from the star of the plate which should be the fish/ meat.

Located in the Nimitz Business Center. So parking is in the structure. I think parking is free for the first 2 hours. Service was great. Plates were collected after every dish and water was refilled. Very intimate setting. Only thing is how tight to try to move around and get up to use the bathroom. Food was good and creative. The chefs know the inside out of their dishes. I thought the food had flavor throughout. We got the middle tier omakase. I would go again. Only thing I didn't like were how claustrophobic I felt because of how close we were to next party.

Took my husband here for the lunch omakase for his birthday. It was delicious and unique that we could make our own hand rolls or eat it however we wanted with the side of sushi rice and nori. You could choose among white rice, sushi rice, and brown rice. Service was excellent and we chatted about our mutual love for Japan! Ambiance is intimate with only counter seating. I felt like we were in NYC for a sec. We ordered the matcha ice cream and yuzu sorbet for dessert after and the server was so kind and put a candle in it and played the happy birthday song for my husband. The bathroom is shared with the rest of the building and was not the cleanest. I'm picky with my bathrooms so just wanted to mention it here for everyone. But all in all, it was a great dining experience and we can't wait to go back! It's also nice that there is free parking available for the first two hours.

I decided to finally go out of my usual choices and try Ginza out. Ginza is located in the main ward building (the one with the theater), on the side, between Men's Warehouse and L&L. We got seated fairly quickly and was given water. Upon ordering we were also given edamame to nom on while we waited. We also decided to order two rolls, an AAB combo set to try a variety of things and fried calamari for food measure. We got: * Jen's Paradise: 9.7/10, heavily recommend. I was really craving sear salmon and it definitely helped to satisfy that craving. I didn't realize that the roll part itself ONLY has shrimp tempura within the nori (no crab salad, avo, etc). * Bomb: 8/10, clearly I lacked my reading comprehension skills this day because I didn't realize that this was baked... so when it came out and the entire roll was fully cooked I was heart broken. It tasted good, just not what I particular want at a sushi restaurant. * Chicken Karaage: 5/10. I do NOT recommend this. They remined me of mochiko chicken, but these were not very meaty or flavorful. * Fried Calamari: 10/10, fried to perfectly in my opinion, each piece was plump and delicious. * Miso Butterfish: 8.9/10, it was good, flaky and flavorful. Just not something I would order again, but it was good to try esp it is something they're supposedly known for. * Mixed Tempura: 10/10, yum I love mixed tempura, no notes, it was hot and crunchy. I would like to mention that our wait was quite long. I don't know why because they weren't like SUPER busy. It took 10-15 for us to get the miso soup and salad for the combo. +5 for the calamari, +5 for the first roll then a few minutes after for the rest. I feel like 15-20 minutes for our first actual item (calamari) to come is kind of crazy, it kept being brought to the wrong table (2-3 times). Our server apologized so its not a huge deal. Otherwise, I still enjoyed our experience. I would definitely come back again to try the rolls I would enjoy more (utilizing my reading skills a bit better LOL).
