    Chicken Karaage

Putting Ginza and Sushi together has a high standard. So does this restaurant being called Ginza Sushi live up to those standards? Definitely not. None can. In Hawai'i? Average. This place is located in Kaka'ako, along Kamakee, near L&L. Can in the Whole Foods or Ward Theatres parking lots. Inside is very basic and casual. Menu is your typical Japanese sushi menu items. The Fried Calamari ($15) was good. Tender, nicely seasoned and battered with a tasty aioli sauce with a nice spice kick. Chicken Karaage ($15) was okay. Much smaller, popcorn to nugget size pieces. Result was over-battered and dry chicken. However, it was fried and seasoned well with a tasty aioli sauce. The Hamachi Lover set was all right ($33). It came with 4 piece sashimi, 4 piece nigiri, and 6 piece hosomaki. Could be presented better. Hamachi was good, typical quality. The Combo sets is a good way to try different items. Server noted the serving portion is the same as Ala Carte. The Mixed Tempura was a pass ($15). Came with shrimp, sweet potato, zucchini, pumpkin, etc. Shrimp was over battered, rest was not battered well. Nothing was seasoned, so relied on the sauce for any taste. Unagi was okay ($17). It just ate and tasted like it was just nuked to temp with bonito flakes thrown on top. The Butterfish Misoyaki ($18) was fine. Lacked miso flavor and umami. Prime Rib Eye with Sautéed Mushroom ($40 total) was not worth it at all. Cooked unevenly, zero char, no noticeable sear with the sauce covering everything. The mushroom and onions didn't seem like they were sautéed at all. Onions were still white and on the firm side. Miso soup was per usual. Overall, an okay experience. Something you can find any where else, but perhaps with better prices and more generous portions. Service was good. Attentive and friendly. Everything tasted fine, but the preparation and plating was on the lackadaisical side. That doesn't make you feel you'd want to come back.

Ginza Sushi was originally at the Ward Centre before moving to a new location across Merriman next to the L&L Drive Inn. I've been to the old location years ago with a coworker during lunch hour. I remembered it was slow and dark inside. Ward Centre has a new owner and soon the businesses there will close due to upcoming building of the new condominiums. Perhaps they found a new location a bit sooner than the other businesses at Ward Center. I really thought the former Menchako-tei restaurant on Keeaumoku St was planning to move here instead , but I see they have a Fort St Mall restaurant called Tonkatsu Sanji! Too bad they are only opened on weekdays. Getting back to Ginza Sushi, it's still Ginza Sushi but on the sign as I was driving by, Ginza is all you see but in smaller print, the word Sushi is there! The new restaurant is nicer modern Japanese restaurant. Glass front doors and wall, but it's a larger space with more seating. Prices not as comparable to some other Japanese restaurants as my first choice, but expected in this new Ward location. A nice place to get together with family or friends. Ginza Sushi offers sushi, donburi, udon, soba, kids sets, & lunch sets. The signature combos' price depends on what your choices are. They also have appetizers, sides, hosomaki, & sashimi plus more! I was in the rush during my lunch hour and decided on ordering the donburi and I didn't have to wait long. Piping hot and made so fast. Service was good. For a little more, you can have a teishoku with soup and salad. I got the chicken karaage donburi with 7-8 fried chicken morsels. The chicken was drizzled with mayo, furikake, and I believe kabayaki sauce served on rice. The flavor came from the sauce than the chicken. There was some pickled cucumbers on the side. Nice for take out if you don't need, salad & miso soup for a dollar more as you would get for one choice lunch A set. I noticed for dinner, the teishoku or the signature combo of 2-3 choices comes with ice cream. Check out their new location!

Ginza Sushi has been on my bucket list for quite some time now, and I saw an opportunity to give them a try at their new location through their participation in Taste of Ward event offering BOGO 50% OFF on their rolled sushi. Their new location is aesthetic and has more open space than their previous location. But with a new location came a revamped menu--there were more "cooked" rolls than I remember, but then again, I last dined in Ginza back in 2021. This 3-star rating is based solely on their food. Their rolls are certainly creative and fun, but that also meant that not all of them hit the mark. PARADISE ROLL ($20) [4.5/5] - baked shrimp tempura and freshwater lobster roll. This was my favorite roll of the night, I never had freshwater lobster before, but I liked the bouncy (but not rubbery) texture. It kinda tasted like a sushi bake. MOANA ROLL ($19) [3.5/5] - spicy ahi cucumber roll with unagi and avocado. This was a classic roll, the ahi did not taste particularly fresh but it was not bad. ALOHA ROLL ($18) [1/5] - seared salmon with avocado, cucumber, and tobiko. I was disappointed that they used store-bought tempura flakes (tenkatsu) when they (presumably) batter and fry their tempura in-house. The salmon was fishy, and the size of the salmon throughout the roll was very inconsistent. I will attest that their portions for the rolls are pretty big though--we were full eating 1.5 rolls each.

This is a casual sushi and udon spot. I tried their fried gyoza and udon--both were okay, nothing too memorable.

Ginza Sushi is in Ward, recently moved to a new spot between the L&L and the Men's Warehouse. We live nearby and have always wanted to try it, so we finally did. The interior is absolutely beautiful: modern Japanese chic, warm lighting, wood slatted panel walls, and a clean aesthetic We ordered the hamachi collar, a specialty roll, and a salmon avocado roll. Total was $53 before tax and tip. The food was good, but it wasn't anything special. It's priced as if the food is exceptionally elevated or special, and it's not Service was okay to good, also nothing special. Nothing was wrong with Ginza Sushi, but I wouldn't come back. At these prices, I need at least one standout detail, and I didn't find one

Come to greet Ginza on their new re-grand opening in the new location. Absolutely clean and beautiful inside. Nice and spacious! We definitely want to dine-in next time. The staff is always friendly and ready to work. We always did take out at the other location but this location has a lot more seating now. So we definitely will check it out! We are glad for the new upgrade. Highly recommend checking them out at Wards!

First time here and decided to check it out for lunch. We ordered the Ginza Special, Avenger, Aloha rolls. While everything was tasty, the Ginza Special was definitely our favorite, and the other rolls were good but nothing special. However, presentation on the rolls was 10/10. The inside is a cute spot and the woman working was so friendly and attentive. Nice spot.

My bf and I came here for dinner on a Sunday. It wasn't too busy and we were able to get a table rather fast. The staff were friendly. Both of us got the "create your own combo." I got the chicken karaage, cold soba, and unagi kabayaki. The chicken pieces were fairly big and tasted good with the sauce and cabbage. I'd never had cold soba before and I wanted to try it, but I wasn't really a fan. I liked the noodles, but I didn't think the soup it came with had much flavor together. I really liked the unagi, which was soft and flavorful. My bf got the cold udon, hamburger steak, and unagi kabayaki. We really liked the hamburger steak and he liked his cold udon and unagi. We also got the bomb sushi roll, which was also good. We were so full from all of the food!

The food was DELICIOUS! Our waiter was kind, polite, and very efficient. The restaurant was clean, and quaint! We felt relaxed after a warm day walking around the park. I'm going to be dreaming about this sushi for a while. The prices were very reasonable and great quality. You will get your money's worth for sure!

Exceptional dining experience at Ginza Sushi! I've seen Ginza Sushi on Yelp countless times, but only today did I finally get to savor their offerings. My family and I had just stopped by Happy Lemon Ward during our 'Veteran's Day Adventure' when we spotted Ginza and decided to come back soon to try it out. Little did I know, "soon" would mean the very next day, but no complaints here! Haha! My wife is a devoted sushi enthusiast, so she suggested it for lunch today - lucky me! :D The restaurant itself is cozy and intimate, with maybe 2 four-top tables outside and around 6-8 tables inside. The ambiance was enhanced by soothing "KennyG-like" tunes and holiday music, creating a pleasant backdrop for our surprise lunch date. Our server was outstanding, bringing humor and warmth to the experience. It was quiet when we first arrived, but by 1pm, a steady crowd started to fill the space... And that server stayed on point with all of us in the dining room. We always appreciate friendly, efficient service, so GREAT JOB - to him! Here's what we got: - 9pc Nigiri & Sashimi Set - Uni Nigiri - Uni Temaki - Scallop/Mayo Nigiri - Maguro - Natto Hosomaki w/Green Onions - Fried Calamari - Baked Mussels - Butteryaki Scallops Everything was superb! My wife had high hopes for the Uni, and Ginza delivered beyond expectations - it was fresh and, as she described, "like buttah!" The ahi, salmon, and hamachi were also incredibly fresh, practically melting in your mouth. I'm not sure how Ginza manages to offer such high-quality sushi at these reasonable prices, especially in this area, but we're more than happy to enjoy it while we can. It's rare these days to find a place that doesn't inflate prices, so discovering an excellent sushi spot with fair pricing made the experience even more rewarding. Thanks Ginza & staff!

First time trying at Ginza Sushi. They are a solid 4.3/5 The restaurant relocated next to L&L by Ward. We parked at the ward theaters parking location. We went on a quiet night of Sunday around 7PM. * First impressions - At the door, they have a tablet with the YELP waitlist in which they will let you know when your table is ready by text. - The restaurant was not too busy at the time and we were promptly seated at a nice big table. - Menus are ready on the table along with water served to you as soon as you sit down. *At the table - The menus are high quality, minimalistic, straight to the point. - We ordered two sets of combo 3: two butterfishes, two spicy poke, chicken katsu & unagi. Came with generous servings of Miso Soup, Salad and a single serving of Edamame. It also comes with an ice cream of your choice at the end. - They are attentive with drinks refills. - We waited longer than other customers eating just sushi (justified) but we were pleasantly surprised at the portions. *Quality & Price - Miso soup and Salad were delish. - Poke was great! But may be a lil' too spicy for some. It's a bit higher than standard. - Butterfish was incredible. It's a $1 extra for this item but it is worth it. Good portion. (Eat the skin, it's the best part) - Chicken Katsu fried to perfection and juicy on the inside. - Unfortunately, the unagi was not good for me. It was dry, felt stale but the sauce was nice and the bonito flakes was a nice touch. - I think for the price is OK. If they added a drink with this combo, it would be the cherry on top. Overall, I recommend this place for casual Japanese food (hot). No comments on sushi as I have not try it on this visit.

Fresh fish, kinda pricy but good ambiance what looked like to be BYOB service kinda slow after we got our food.. empty waters

Though the restaurant was relocated new and beautiful, my nigiri lunch looked miserable for $20. Nigiri lunch is 4 pieces of small California rolls and 4 pieces of nigiri with miso soup, salad in a miso soup cup and edamame to share. I hope they put more passion in sushi (if necessary, they can skip edamame): please use better, fresh fish to impress customers. Thank you very much for the lunch.

And how do I know that it's fresh? Because as we were at the restaurant, deliveries were being delivered nonstop. My kids devoured the salmon bowl with the salmon roe. My 8 year old's bowl was wiped clean. My 7 year old had only 2 slices of salmon and a few ikuras left. The 5 year old polished off her few pieces of salmon and roe along with her miso soup. And momma's Fukuju? Absolutely demolished. I should have ordered it with extra ikura because the quality and flavor that it provided to the bowl was something that I've never had before. I am usually not a fan of ikura, finding it too salty, but the ikura at Totoya was perfectly balanced. Second, the service was great. I had to give it to the lovely staff who were able to keep it all together when a party of 5 adults and 7 kids (aged between 5 to 11) rolled in, and of course the kids all chose to not sit with their respective parents. The food came fast and kept the peace of very hungry children. The place itself is a small little restaurant with just bar seating, no more than 16 seats, so definitely cozy. My friend sitting all the way on the other side of the bar said she could hear my conversation perfectly well, even though all the kids were loudly chatting. We will definitely be back the next time we make it out to Honolulu. Thanks to the restaurant again for providing such a memorable meal. Even with a decent amount of seating, there is minimal space so they ask that you leave your strollers outside. When we called the first time saying our daughter was asleep they arranged everything in order to fit the stroller inside. The second visit, I had an even bigger stroller because it was a double stroller for my daughter and son. When I said my son was asleep they again, quickly tried to arrange space for the stroller until we realized he woke up. I truly appreciate them being so welcoming because I've come across many establishments that are not especially towards kids. As for the food, the first time the tonkatsu was a miss for me. I was comparing it to a popular spot on the island that books out months in advance that I tried just before my first visit here and it just seemed a lot more oily and not as tender. We were actually going to eat at the other business again but with two kids and walking non stop on our trip already, I was so happy we had an option closer to us. Both times, we were coming from Hilton Hawaiian Village. They have the cutest car bento boxes for the kids, and they let you choose the car color. My daughter loved the mini umbrella that came with her plate. My son was days before turning 1 year old so a lot of things ended up on the floor and even then, they were so kind about it. The best thing though for my husband and I AND my son, was the loco moco which we were told was limited and a new item for dinner since it was primarily only served as a lunch option? The flavor of the gravy alone was sooo good and rich. My son ended up eating my whole portion of rice and gravy with no crumbs left behind or on the floor lol. The other katsu items we ordered were nice and lightly coated and were not heavily oily at all. The only thing that I felt lacked was their curry especially in comparison to their gravy. I would definitely recommend coming here and I can't wait to come back. That was one of our favorite new dishes this trip and we come every year!

They are, in my humble opinion, the best on the island, and some of the best soba noodles I've ever had. I don't think anywhere else in Honolulu comes close. You come here to eat soba. Period. In addition to the soba being phenomenal, the other offerings at i-naba are also similarly great. Their tempura in particular is outstanding. I typically order the Jumbo Shrimp Tempura Bowl & Soba or the Dx Tempura Bowl & Soba. Plus an upgrade to a large size soba! The tempura is sooo good. It's crispy, light, and airy. The jumbo shrimp is especially succulent and tender. And the ingredients are always perfectly seasoned with the sweet and savory house sauce. Yummmy! If you're looking for the best soba and awesome tempura, this is your spot!!!

I finally had lunch here a couple weeks ago and damn was my tempura and soba set broke da mout. The soba is housemade with a chewy consistency that I love. I had it cold with the dipping sauce and wow wow wow. So good. My friends suggested I get the shrimp and vegetable tempura as well which amazingly stayed crispy the whole time I savored each bite. Probably 30 minutes. Light crisp batter on perfectly cooked shrimp and veggies. Damn it was good. The service was great as well and I cannot wait to go back. Nice warm atmosphere and there's a free parking lot. It gets busy during lunch and dinner, so get there early or make a reservation. Enjoy!

Sunday April 19, 2026 first time, coming here at the 11th Ave. location…read more We were looking for a place for lunch after Planet Fitness Kahala and walking around the Diamond Head Triangle Park. Metered street parking or they have a paid private parking lot. As it was Sunday, we found a parking on Koko Head Avenue and walked there. We were seated right away at 2:30pm and they close at 3:30pm. Then dinner is at 5:00pm. Service was fast and friendly. We ordered right away. Food came out shortly after. It looked good and it tasted good too. The purple potato salad with the 2 sweet potato chips was different and really good! After lunch, we decided to order 2 Kirin beers and a bottle of Iichiko with green tea. We drank 1/3 of the bottle and decided to save the rest for the next time. We will be back again. Great Japanese fusion restaurant with interesting dishes!…read more We ordered the quail eggs, corn, unagi ochazuke, blue cheese shishito peppers, and watercress salad. The peppers might not be everyone's cup of tea but it was certainly unique and interesting. The ochazuke was a favorite! Service was great and ambiance was cozy. Pretty busy on a Friday night. Although I miss their honey toast, I still love their new menu!

The employees were awesome and attentive and had good recommendations. I got a calpico grapefruit soda with alcohol. It was delicious, but pretty sweet. Definitely worth a try if you like sweet drinks. My favorite was the calpico shikuwasa soda with Soju! It was so delicious. It was sour and sweet in the perfect way. Tasted like a creamy sour lemonade. I would come back just for this drink! I also really enjoyed their rolls and sushi. I got a few rolls and hand roll and they were all delicious and fresh. I cannot wait to return again!

Fun tip: If you purchase a bottle of sake, you get to randomly draw a prize! Prizes range from a free scallop sashimi to a "hug" from a staff member lol the staff members were all super friendly, but were a bit busy and rushed. The food was good. The dish they're known for, the ikura bowl, was the best standout dish to order. The other items were good but were a bit pricey for the quality and the portion. Overall, a spot I would return to again to try other dishes. My family had a good time there. Tips: the staircase getting up to the restaurant is steep, watch you step and be careful if drinking alcohol lol parking lot is paid and can fill up fast during prime dinner time. Street parking is hit or miss. Reservations are highly recommended.
