My order to go
Arturo N.

This was honestly one of my favorite food spots I've tried in Waikiki so far. I got the miso salmon musubi, unagi, egg & spam musubi, and the spicy tuna -- every single one was super delicious. Especially the unagi one and spicy tuna one! The prices were really affordable, everything came out fast and service was great. I appreciated that there wasn't unnecessary onion or filler overpowering the flavors. Just really solid, fresh, flavorful food. They also have cute merch in the shop which made the place feel even more fun, OG and local. Mega recommend if you're in the Honolulu/Waikiki area. I'd especially recommend going around 4 PM -- perfect snack or early dinner moment. I came here again on my way to the airport to have a good hearty snack on the flight. Definitely one of the best places I've eaten in Waikiki.

Musubi Cafe Iyasume is the bomb. It's the perfect snack and item to bring on a hike, I always come here every Oahu trip!! There's such a variety of toppings to choose from that you will be racked with indecisiveness... That is, until you remember that it is a five minute walk from your hotel and you can just come again the next day. I've never been disappointed with my order, even just the regular spam musubi is to die for. I liked my unagi musubi very much, the inside is cute and sells lots of gadgets and gizmos and Musubi Cafe Iyasume merch!!! This is a very cost effective place to hit up.

I was already skeptical about Musubi before coming here because it seems to have a lot of rice and I am not a big fan of rice. I ordered their top 3 best selling ones and as I was imagine, it was a lot of rice. I ate their top top portion only and some rice. If you are Musubi fan, you might like it but not for me. Top portion was pretty delicious though, spam wasn't salty and pretty balanced with other ingredients. Service was great, the stuff explained each selection patiently. It was casual setting and cozy.

Love it! Great for a pick me up before you drive off to your next adventure! There was a long line when we arrived in the morning. Service was quick and patient. There was only person in the front getting all the orders. We bought 2-3 spam Musubi/onigiri each which was enough to fill us for breakfast. Got to try so many different types! Kimchi spam, black pepper spam, eel egg and shiso spam, avocado eel egg spam, avocado shrimp spam, spicy tuna mayo onigiri, spicy cod roe onigiri, and yuzu salmon onigiri. There were also the black pepper cheese spam and the bacon & egg spam but I didn't get to try those two. I really like the Ume shiso the best. The Ume complimented the spam musubi well that my family liked it too though they are typically not fans of ume. Everything was good and filling. And would def come back for more pick me up.

Yum! Cant believe I haven't written a review on this place even though I have visited this location numerous times. Partly because we always finish the musubis before we even get to take a photo of it. Good sign, right? Located on Kuhio on the first floor is a mom and pop looking kind of a store. They sell store merchandise of their prize spam musubis ranging from tote bags, shirts, magnets, etc. They have a menu with photos and prices of each item they sell which makes it helpful while trying to decide on which one to order (although it's tempting to order everything). We always order teriyaki spam, spam w/bacon and egg, and spam w/bacon, egg and avocado. Occasionally, we will order onigiris as well. You cannot go wrong with any of their musubis. It is such a tasty treat/meal while you're on the go. Perfect for the beach! Enjoy it while it's freshly made and the rice is perfectly warm or eat it on the go when you can. Service is great and they can be busy depending on the time of day. Otherwise, this is a place that you must visit if you're in the area.

Musubi at Hanauma Bay. Great snack.

First time in Oahu and had to try this! Seems like a classic staple. Looking at the menu first, I was surprised by how many different flavors there were! I was also surprised that they had actual onigiri too. I tried the spicy cod roe onigiri and the classic musubi. The spicy cod roe was pretty unique to try, although I wish it had more filling cause theres def a whole lot of rice. The classic musubi also just tasted like a regular musubi LOL I thought it was would be a leveled up musubi but it tasted like a good old fashion musubi you can make in the kitchen. Again, there's a whole lot of rice with it too haha. I tried a bit of the black pepper one which was pretty nice, but I would definitely want to try the other flavors to make the trip more worth than getting the classic one.

Beef bowl and unagi-avocado-spam musibi

Found those place on accident and it hit all the requirements for the afternoon: small bites, legit Hawaiian, affordable. Service was quick on my beef bowl and eel-avocado-spam musubi! I could have taken it to the beach (which was steps away) but the smells and my hunger made me impatient so I ate it in their retail area (had a handful of seats and tables). Food was really good and filling. Great option to take out to the beach!

Fun to look around!

If you haven't been here you are missing out. Whether its a meal or a quick bite, this is your place! I have eaten at almost all of their locations and have never had a bad experience...and I was happy to learn that this location has some really solid food. In addition to a bacon, avocado, and spam musubi, and a eel, avocado and spam musubi, I was able to try a curry bowl and a shrimp tempura bowl The musubi were what you would expect...made to order and delicious. The curry bowl was simple but very good. Thick and rich, the curry matched well with the veggies and rice underneath. The bowl was more of a medium size, but it was filling. The tempura shrimp udon was also tasty. The dashi broth was definitely the highlight. Light and sweet, this broth was a perfect compliment to the crispy shrimp and noodles. I will be back to try more dishes...and what's better than shrimp tempura udon at 630am in the morning!!! Nothing!

The musubi was so good! My favorite was the eel. They have a huge variety. Prices are comparable to other musubi locations. HAPPY

I loved going here. The price is cheap. Only $2-3 each, but they are smaller. It is a small little place inside. Just grab and go. They do sell cute little souvenirs as well. Staff was friendly and efficient. In and out quickly. I got a salmon with roe onigiri and a spam musubi. Yummmy! I wish i went again. I want more now. Haha

Nice place to grab some snacks. I am not a well versed musubi eater but it was a nice treat to try and enjoyed the teriyaki spam over the salmon. Friendly quick service.

Musubis, plates, bentos, and poke bowls oh my! This musubi spot came highly recommend by friends which meant I will not be passing up the opportunity to try. This grab and go shop offers a long list of spam musubis, musubi rolls, poke bowls, and even plates. They also have packs of chicken karaage and bento boxes ready to go by the cashier. I ended up ordering terriyaki spam, egg spam, salmon with mayonaise, and double tuna mayo. The egg spam and terriyaki spam were my favorite. The salmon with mayonaise was also delicious. The double tuna with mayo is noteworthy. The prices are reasonable and ranges between $2.75 to $4.00 per musubi. The wait time can stretch up to 30 minutes. I recommend either coming early or ordering online to avoid the wait time. I also recommend checking out their in store swag section. Tons of cute keychains, insulated bags, totes, and musubi kits. Lastly, have your receipt ready when picking up your order. They will verify your order number. Service was fast and friendly.

So many options!!!

Musubi Cafe Iyasume Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Musubi Cafe Iyasume

Might they offer soy free and gluten free options?

Don't think that option is available.

Do they have gluten free items?

Is this place open on Christmas?

Yes we’re open Christmas Day And New Year’s Day Thank you.

Link to order online for pick up? Grubhub doesn't have the full menu

I'm not sure about ordering online. I would recommend just grabbing it on the stop.

Is this place cash only or take cards?

They take both.

Are any of the musubi gluten free?

Not that I know of due to the sauce involved in making musubi containing gluten. For sauces to be gluten free means no regular soy sauce which is not something common with most asian food.

Do they use MSG? Spam doesn't have msg?

There's MSG in the Spam

Any vegan options?

If you are talking about the musubis themselves, try the musubi with ume (plum), the hijiki musubi (savory seaweed filling) or the mixed hijiki musubi. I usually get those. I would recommend the daikon, seaweed and konyakku oden but most times the… Read more

While at a high price point, everything included in the sets were refillable so it was filling even if the entree portion itself may not seem like it. From the chicken to pork, shrimp, beef and poke, I didn't think there was anything that was lacking in flavor. If there was a way to order the macaroni salad as a side instead of just with the kid's entree, I totally would have. Even with reservation, it took us a while to get seated. But this was also the aunties ensuring we were going to sit together instead of two groups, so they waited for tables to open up to accommodate us, in addition to allowing us to be seated earlier (~30min), so I couldn't complain. And when another table opened up, without even asking, they pushed the table close to us again to allow for more space while we were already seated before our entrees came. The hospitality was so nice it felt like we were in Japan again. Super small shop but well worth it.

This was my first visit to their new location, just downstairs from the old one. The new location is much more spacious and feels brighter than before. It feels a lot less cramped inside. I will say I think the restaurant may be having some growing pains in the new space. It took about an hour from when we were seated until we got our food - I don't really remember having to wait that long before - but all was forgiven when the food arrived. Service was friendly but a little bit absent during the wait, but for whatever reason improved dramatically once the food actually arrived (or maybe just my mood improved!). Since we didn't get reservations we had to do walk in. The waitlist didn't seem bad when we first signed up but it took forever to finally get a table. It was a hot day so we were waiting outside, for nearly an hour. There were only like two or three parties ahead of us on the waitlist. We finally got seated and the people right after us on the list got seated at the same time (they put their name 15 min after us). I would not recommend the waitlist, since it's not consistent. The food itself is always delicious. The new space was nice (and larger). Our server was very nice also. We both got tonkatsu. I got the mizore and my partner got the sizzling one. I appreciate the choices of rice and miso soup. I really enjoyed my Shiso rice and the white miso soup. I think even though I enjoyed the ground daikon but I also think I would've been happy with just a regular tonkatsu, similar for the sizzling platter.

I've been to Mitch's a few times and when I saw that they opened up an Izakaya next door, I knew I had to try it and made a reservation on Yelp. Izakaya Mitch's specializes more in cooked dishes while the other side is more about the fresh / raw fish. But that didn't stop us from ordering the assorted sashimi. All the fish were from Japan and yes you can taste the difference. The fatty tuna was obviously my favorite but even the regular tuna and the hamachi was so buttery, it just melts in your mouth. Plus, it comes with real wasabi. Not horseradish, real wasabi. For the cooked dishes we got the hokkaido crab tempura with a side of matcha salt. One of the best tempuras I've ever had. The kamameshi, a rice dish with their fish of the day. We got the half order and it's kinda like a bibimbap where they mix the rice for you at your table. I saw that people were raving about this on Yelp and put in our order right when we got in because it takes 25-ish minutes to prepare. On special, they had a karei karaage. Karei is a flat fish and I've never had a fish karaage before, it was perfectly fried and dipped in the ponzu sauce it was so good.
