One of the best intimate date locations in Honolulu because there's limited seating (without the feeling of being rushed) and the food is amazing. While limited seating may feel like a disadvantage, it really only hurts those who don't plan well. Otherwise, it means that you don't have to share your experience with am entire full restaurant of people on a Friday night. This restaurant can only seat maybe eight. My husband and I went with the most affordable set menu but its didn't matter because we just started stacking our favorites onto the course afterwards. The wagyu is a must but we loved everything.
My wife brought me here for my birthday. She knows I love sushi. When we arrived, we were greeted by the manager, where he led us to our seat. The environment was relaxing, which we felt very welcomed. We were then greeted by both chefs. They were very accommodating with my wife's food diet, and made an exception to the policy. Every staff member we engaged with were so kind, professional, and down to earth. They explained each dish, and were very responsive to questions we had. We had a wonderful experience and enjoyed the food. I highly recommend Toro for those who love sushi and great people.
This hidden omakase spot tucked away at Nimitz was a really fun find. The entrance is honestly a little confusing at first and parking is inside the building, so it feels a bit like you're discovering a secret restaurant. Once inside though, the space is surprisingly sophisticated with a calm, intimate sushi counter atmosphere. We ordered a bottle of sake and went with the chef's omakase, which turned out to be the perfect amount of food not too little and not overly stuffed by the end. sushi started coming out piece by piece. Everything looked beautiful and very carefully prepared. Some highlights were the uni, where we got to try two different types Hokkaido uni and Santa Barbara uni. Both were creamy and rich, but the Hokkaido one was especially buttery. There were also several standout nigiri pieces like sweet shrimp topped with roe, lightly torched fish with a bit of citrus, and a fatty cut of tuna that melted in your mouth. One of the more memorable bites was a piece of sushi topped Wagyu which was really rich, luxurious flavor. The progression of the meal felt thoughtful and balanced between lighter fish and richer pieces. We finished the omakase with a sorbet dessert, which was a nice refreshing way to end the meal after all the rich seafood. Overall this place feels like a hidden gem omakase experience in Honolulu. Great sushi, relaxed but refined atmosphere, and a fun chef's counter experience that makes the whole dinner feel special.
Hidden away omakase a bit away from the Waikiki beach area. Came here for a Saturday dinner. Parking is free - but is a bit easy to get lost trying to make your way to the restaurant from the parking garage (follow their instructions haha). Had an RSVP and was sat immediately. Was a little bit crowded - sushi bar seating only. Drinks were very good, as was all the sushi dishes. Was a very good time and the chefs were very nice. The only negative would be the spacing as it is pretty cramped. Would recommend as a nice sushi omakase spot!
What a remarkable little spot. It took me a while to find it tucked into the back of Nimitz Center. The door slides open. Not push/pull. The service was on point. Dishes swapped out. Ginger refilled. Water refilled. Wasabi was freshly grated. Perfection. A cozy little dose of wonder. We came to have a small meal before night shenanigans. The small omakase. Wow. Every dish was well thought out and built up on the previous dish. I was surprised at how much I loved every dish. It helps to have someone special to share it with. I would never have come here by myself. And I would have missed out. What an amazing spread for even the lowest omakase option. The deep fried shirako, the seared dishes, the toro with foie gras, the wagyu w truffle... everything was out of the park. 100 bucks. How? I even found myself munching on fried shrimp legs. I normally don't. The miso soup. The damn dessert. Absolutely monstrous deals. I stopped taking pics, I was lost in the sauce. I can only hope for more chances to eat here.
Hands down this place legit great. At first it was somewhat confusing to find the restaurant, we folllow the parking signage to get to the general area located inside a lobby and theres a black door with no sign at the unit. We opened the door to confirm they are actually there. They do send instructions via text when you book so that was helpful, it's just lengthy and can reference it when u park. The food was really really good, taste, proportions and portion was on point! Left the place full and satisfied! The restaurant has only counter seats, about 10 seats. Its a nice cozy spot and their price was quite reasonable because of the portion they offer. Meaning each course would have 2-3 pieces of sushi vs. one piece at a time. Would recommend and would definitely go back
This was the 2nd time I went to Toro Sushi for their omakase dinner with Nikka Whisky pairing and hooo... this one was winnahs! There were 10 of us so we basically took over the whole sushi counter, which basically made the night like one private party with the chef just firing dishes of fishes at us all night. Courses kept coming -- oyster shooter with ankimo, chutoro & tai, Hawaiian fried tako, kinmedai & shima aji, botan ebi & Hokkaido scallop, toro with foie gras, wagyu, and more. But two dishes really stood out for me. The Chawanmushi with truffle shiitake was unreal -- silky, rich, and packed with umami. The uni butter rice w/ikura... hooo that one was broke da mout! Creamy, savory, with that touch of uni sweetness. I wish the bowl was more filled and not just 1/3 of the bowl. The whiskey pairing was cool because the Nikka rep from Japan was actually there and explaining each one, which made the experience even better. I'm mainly a whiskey and tequila drinker but used to drink plenty gin and tonics back in the day -- never straight and definitely not martinis. I was asking all kine questions about the gin so I think he wanted for just shut me up. He poured me an off menu Nikka gin neat I was honestly blown away how smooth and aromatic it was. I could drink that martini style all night. I actually wasn't planning to drink much because I was coming off a heavy night at a party the day before, but yeah... that plan went out the window pretty quick. Especially after getting to try the Nikka Nine Decades. By the end of the night was pretty full and chotto drunko. Great sushi, great pours, and one really fun omakase night. If and when they have this again, I suggest you make a reservation and check it out.
Came here for the $150 omakase. Food was great and I went home with a fully belly! The course included few appetizers, pieces of nigiri, a hand roll and a bite of yuzu sorbet as the dessert. I love how there's a variety of things with foie gras and Wagyu beef incorporated into the dishes. The chef did a good job with the creativity without being too excessive and redundant with the ingredients, like putting gold flakes on food (not a fan of that). The highlight for me was the toasted rice with tuna, their white fish nigiri, the botan shrimp with deep fried shrimp head, the toro, the Santa Barbara uni!!!! My goodness haven't had those firm, sweet, large pieces of SB uni for a long time! (I like Hokkaido ones too, but it's nice to have something different.) I didn't care much for the Wagyu nigiri because it had some chewy tendon for my piece. And the first tuna appetizer was just ok. Also I wish the dessert was more than just a small scoop of sorbet. It's more like a palette cleanser than a dessert... Service was great. Two chefs were working there and both were friendly, so was the server. I overheard one of the chefs used to work at Nobu. It could be a bit hard to find but just make sure you go to the other end of the covered garage, and the restaurant is located at the little courtyard with rocks but no water. I think for $150 pp, the amount of food served was sufficient. I didn't go home hungry and the food quality was good. Also I like how they don't have a set time for seating. We booked a reservation for 6:30pm. I would recommend giving this place a try for their omakase!
Birthday Sushi Outing for Hubs- an annual event. First things first.....this place is tucked away. I've been to the Nimitz center more times than I can remember. From like hanabata times. And I didn't ever know there was this nook. It was super cool. There's the cute little courtyard and the door that, honestly, I didn't know if I should open at first. When our reservation time came up, I had the courage to slide open the door. What a great space inside. Cute counter with a very friendly lady who greeted us. I don't know what I was expecting, and why I was ever nervous. We were seated and started to check out the menu. We got the Omakase Sashimi Sushi Set Toro's signature sashimi set. 12 seasonal varieties of premium fish and shellfish, thoughtfully paired with your choice of rice, nori seaweed, a palette of artisanal seasonings and Hawaiian Salt's, and a comforting bowl of miso soup. Daily selections vary based on the finest available ingredients. It was fun and tasty. We had a great time and ate well. It's someplace we would feel comfortable having a meal together with our kids too! They say it's kid friendly so we will try that soon!
Came here for my birthday and chose the $150 omakase experience--and overall, it was such a great night. The staff were super friendly and made the evening feel really special. They even surprised us with free matcha desserts at the end, which was such a sweet touch! The nigiri was amazing, super fresh, well-balanced, and beautifully presented. Each piece felt thoughtful and high-quality, exactly what you hope for in an omakase. That said, the appetizers weren't really my favorite, they weren't bad, just not as impressive as the sushi course. But the experience as a whole made up for it. If you're looking for a special dinner with great service and fresh sushi, I'd definitely recommend Toro Omakase. Especially if you're celebrating something!
The sushi here is outstanding. My fiancée took me here twice, once for my bday in September and last night! Toro is probably one of my favorite sushi spots...quality, inspired and beautiful food. We got the $300 menu both times and it was absolute perfection! My favorite was the crab and scallop chawanmushi for sure. I've had so many chawanmushis bc I love it so much, this one is the best I've everrrrr had! Looking forward to going back soon!
Tucked away in the business center of Kalihi, I found Toro to be a hidden and unexpected escape to Japan! I experienced their lunch menu and really appreciated the elegance and craftsmanship of the dishes. Although it was lunch, it had an essence of fine dining to it. I recommend ordering the Omakase Sashimi Sushi Set and/or Crab, Uni, and Ikura. Quality and well-balanced palate! The ambiance has an exclusive feel. It's bar seating and you're up close with the sushi chef. We were the only ones during the lunch hour so it really felt like private dining. I'd definitely recommend for a gals day or date night.

Super super hidden gem!! Super reasonable prices! Alcohol is way cheaper than many other restaurants! But I have to say, road work near by is a pain. So pls go from Nimitz Highway direction!!! read more
I had a wonderful experience dining with my niece at this restaurant! She opted for the $100 omakase while I chose to go a la carte. Surprisingly, we ended up trying almost all the same dishes, except she didn't get the uni while I did, and she got the wagyu with truffle, I didn't.Every dish we tried was delicious! The only aspect that was just okay was the desserts. While the panna cotta and chocolate ganache were decent, the yuzu ice creamcream at the end was the best. We would definitely return for the sushi experience! read more

Toro Honolulu is one of the most interesting Omakase places in Honolulu, Hawaii. The main chef worked at Nobu, Waikiki for almost 13 years and you can definitely tell his style reflects the Nobu style. So what is Nobu style? Is it Americanized Sushi? Or is it just a fancy sushi? Is it a more roll based Americanized Sushi? After eating at Toro Honolulu, I understood greatly on what that style of sushi really is. The chef is extremely well trained and you can see his attention to details are very precise and accurate. The movement and execution of each dish is just flawless as he has so many years of experienced working at Nobu. Every dish is very well decorated with different colors and just looking at it is just pleasing itself. The Nobu style for me is really just beautifully presented dish that can be served at the 5 star hotel for the ultimate dining experiences. I was skeptical when I first saw Toro, Honolulu in the IG, because each dish looked so fancy and beautiful. Usually when the food looks beautiful, typically it usually does not taste good from my experience of eating at many high end restaurants. The first bite I knew this was going to be an awesome sushi journey. Start to finish, I never tasted such a palette from Omakase and it was like seeing a brand new artist painting new style of art but something I understood very well. This was exactly what I wanted to feel at Toro and I received the complete taste journey from start to finish. One of the best sushi or nigiri bite I had this night was the, seared foie gras sushi with pineapple. It was one of the best bite I have ever had. I would recommend Toro, Honolulu if you are looking for the most unique yet delicious experience of culinary journey. read more

High quality intimate omakase. Fish was high quality, the service was excellent and the chefs served us quickly so the time between courses was short. The wagyu was my favorite piece read more
Location: Nimitz Business Center in the back. Follow the instructions and map that is provided. It's easier to find than what people say and think. Staff: personable and friendly. They speak English and they communicate with you. Food: I personally thought it was good. The dishes came out in a set order and on a timely basis. As with your typical omakase it's the chefs decision And you have to respect it. The only dish I didn't personally like was the ika as it was a little thicker than I'm used to and it it took some chewing to get it down. The toro was amazing along with the uni and the eel. They are new and will be trying to work out the concepts and menu but for the price it was reasonable. I like the BYOB for right now and it honestly people like BYOB and pay a small corkage as you can bring what you think will match the dish and what you like. read more
An intimate speak easy omakase restaurant in Nimitz business center. Rest be assured that detailed direction will be provided via text so you won't get lost. I visited the restaurant during the soft opening so it's still BYOB but they do charge a corkage fee per bottle. The restaurant can seat approximately 10 people around the sushi counter and you have to select the courses based on your appetite. However, everyone in your group should pick the same thing. As a small eater, the $89 course got me stuffed. Fish was very fresh and appropriately seasoned. I did not find a need to use the shoyu or ask for wasabi. Overall, a great omakase experience with warm customer service. read more

I had the pleasure of dining at Toro for the second time yesterday, and I have to say Andrew and his team really know how to create an exceptional experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with hospitality that made us feel right at home! It's a beautiful space for a dinner you won't regret it. The food was absolutelyyyy delicious and SO FRESH and filling in the best way possible not to mention gorgeous presentation that made every dish feel super unique. I also just love being able to watch the chefs in their element and craft each dish with their precision, it's honestly just such a cool experience. The ambiance was spot on, plus great music and a cozy atmosphere that's perfect for literally any type of occasion. Whether you're out with friends, on a date, or having a special dinner with family, Toro is very much the place to check out. Thank you to Andrew and everyone at Toro for always making every visit so memorable. I already can't wait to come back! read more
Quaint, tucked away omakase gem. Took me sometime to find however I bumped into our waiter who led me to my destination. Staff is very attentive and kind. Always checked up on us through the night. Definitely worth the quality. Will be back . Pictures don't do justice. I was too busy eating to write up the menu. But, it definitely didn't disappoint in creating the experience. read more

One of the best restaurants on Oahu tucked in the back of the Nimitz Center. There are multiple signs guiding you to a small bar with only ten seats. The service was incredible, both the hostess and the chef were welcoming and explained the multitude of high quality ingredients. My partner and I got the lunch omakase special ($79) and the chirashi bowl ($36). I was blown away by the quality and flavors of everything on my plate. Highly recommend, make a reservation before you go! read more

My better half booked Toro for my brother in laws birthday tonight and we had a group of 5. We did the $250 omakase menu and I will tell you, it was freaken amazing! The ambience, service, and food took me back to Tokyo! Oh my goodness. It was legit that good! Chef Stone and the second chef (I didn't catch his name) along with Darren (sp?) were exceptional and extremely friendly and kind. It was not a pretentious place but it had all the elements of a Japanese omakase restaurant with limited number of seats. We had about 24 different sushi pieces or dishes and all were excellent! However the stand outs for me tonight were the oyster shooters, ahi tuna, wagyu and otoro sushi pieces, and the caramized foie gras... but in all seriousness, they were all so damn good!!! We brought 2 - 6 packs of Asahi and Kirin beer and Darren gave us glasses and kept the beer cans on ice or in the freezer! This is one of those places that all it takes is a YouTube Video from someone famous or with lots of followers and it'll blow up like crazy. It's difficult to find and definitely a speakeasy type of a place. If this place was near Waikiki, it would be full every night of the week with a waitlist. It's really that good!!! Again, we had an incredible evening and thoroughly enjoyed our experience! Complements to Chef Stone and his team, and we wish them great success and prosperity! read more

Went for the 100$ Omakase option with my wife. Definitely worth the price, the bar style seating was comfortable and clean. Service from the chef was quick and on point, I recommend going on a weekday, as it was less crowded and quiet. Portions were enough to keep my wife and I satisfied as we left. Definitely going to come back to try the other menu options in the future. Try and find parking near the first floor in the nimitz center to avoid being charged. read more

Unmatched omakase experience! Toro exceeded all my expectations! This is my 2nd time visiting, and I decided I need to write a review. The ambiance is dim yet inviting, creating the perfect setting for an intimate dining experience. The service was impeccable--attentive, and truly passionate about the sushi craft. As for the sushi, it was perfect. Every piece was a work of art, with fresh, high-quality fish and beautifully balanced flavors. There are new specials, and menu items but as always the toro nigiri, Wagyu, and uni were absolute standouts. The progression of the meal was exactly how it should be with each bite being better than the last. This is a great place to go if you love sushi, I'll definitely be back, highly recommend! read more

Every time I saw a new omasake restaurant open, I want to try them all. We finally got time to try this place out, I must say it is not easy to find, they are located at the same complex as New Eagle Cafe, but Toro is not facing Nimitz Hwy, it is at the backside. The owner send out instruction about parking and location via text on the day of your reservation, and that helps a lot. Since the restaurant is fairly new, so the inside is nice. All the seating is facing one direction which is the chef. We chose the $125 omasake menu, per their information, there are three appetizers and eight pieces of sushi. One thing I like is they don't serve all the appetizers at the beginning, they kind of stagger them with the sushi, which is kind of nice. The owner Andrew and the head chef are both on the floor preparing food for the customers. I go to omasake every month and I eat at a lot of sushi restaurants. I must say the chef put a lot of thoughts and details into their dishes. Each bite give me different layer of texture. The ingredient is fresh and the food is quite enjoyable. I am surprise for the $125 menu, there's no Uni. Lot of others omasake restaurants I went to, even for the one and the same price range, they serve Uni. Anyway, we ordered ala cart and add two Uni at the end because my wife love Uni. Overall, the staffs are friendly. Food quality is on par. We are glad there is one more sushi place to go in Oahu. One note about parkings that I want to share. There is a QR code that you supposed to scan after you parked your car, and after you scan, the apps ask for a payment, it's pretty confusing because the restaurant staff told me you don't need to pay if you come to dinner at around 5pm and the first two hours is free and told us not to pay. read more

Toro is a hidden gem and intimate omakase spot located on the backside of the Nimitz Business Center. They recently launched a sashimi omakase set for their lunch menu that costs $79. It includes an array of 12 types of seasonal sashimi rotating with what's fresh daily. You can build your own hand rolls with nori and your choice of white rice, brown rice, or sushi rice. The meal also comes with miso soup. What really elevated this was the sashimi came with toppings that can enhance the flavors of each fish including green tea salt, volcanic salt, a rare type of fish eggs, and other delicious ingredients. It was wonderful being able to try each piece of sashimi by itself or build your own customized hand roll to your liking. Since there are so many omakase options on island, it's cool to see a unique concept like this being offered in Honolulu that's so different from the saturated sushi market. This place has a selection of beers, cocktails, and soft beverages. Their green tea ice cream was the perfect way to end this meal on a hot day. Their service was exceptional and I can't wait to try their dinner experience next time! read more
