    34. Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken

ATTENTION SPICY NOODLE SOUP LOVERS -- This place is a MUST for you! I've visited many many Asian restaurants that have spicy noodle soups (ramen, mala tang, whatever it may be), but this place by far as the BEST and the SPICIEST noodle soups I've ever had. I personally love mala, so I ordered level 3 mala beef noodle soup and holy crap, it was SPICY. I was originally going to order level 5 but the owner warned me... which I'm so thankful for because level 5 would have killed me. I think level 2 would have been more of a comfortable spicy, but level 3 was doable. The popcorn chicken was also out of this world. I didn't understand why a popcorn chicken would be so popular at a Taiwanese restaurant, but it's definitely different than a regular American popcorn chicken. So happy we ordered it! The owner and server were also so friendly and kind. Happy to support their local business! Chinatown definitely has some of the most delicious restaurants on the island but this place is in my top 5.

Finding this spot based on the address is a bit of a challenge. Ultimately, we parked in the ramp and walked through the mall. Unfortunately, the mall appeared to be mostly deserted. We opted for the popcorn chicken (med spice) with pork covered rice and an order of pan fried dumplings. The chicken was crispy, crunchy, and flavorful. I loved the flavor of the pork with the rice - it was a welcome addition! As expected, the dumplings were very green onion/chive forward. I recommend requesting the rice vinegar, garlic sauce, and chili oil. Be warned, you will have the taste of garlic in your mouth for the rest of the day but I think it's worth it. The food was piping hot and came out quickly. Definitely recommend!

I was craving Taiwanese food while in Oahu for the week and came a ross Seasons on Yelp! I wish I had more appetite and time to try more things, but we stopped by for a quick lunch while in the area. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The popcorn chicken is unique to Taiwan, vastly different from other versions around the world, and the rice with pork sauce goes very well with it. Beware of the spice, we were going between 2/5 and 3/5 and were glad we decided for 2/5 -- we like spicy food and that was plenty. The pork dumplings were so good!! Simple yet delicious filling, thin wrapper to make them less chewy, and nice and crispy on the bottom. Make sure you ask for rice vinegar, chili oil, and garlic sauce to make yourself the perfect dipping sauce for them. It will be on my rotation to visit again when I'm back in Oahu and I will make sure to bring my best appetite to try more things. It is a locally owned restaurant with reduced staff and limited seating, so be patient and enjoy the food! With that said, at 2pm on a weekday, we found seating right away and service was lightning fast! Food was freshly made to order and came out really fast as well.

What a awesome surprise to come and have a variety of Taiwaneses food. Highlight: popcorn chicken - beef & tendon noodle soup. Everything we had was fantastic but both these items are outstanding. Popcorn chicken served w/ fried basil was so good - lots of flavor and crunchy perfectly fried and not greasy. Loved the spices they use. The beef & tendon noodle soup was flavorful and well balanced good noodles too. Restaurant is located at the Chinese cultural center in Honolulu - there is parking ( no validation) - on the ground floor. Restaurant is clean and updated and staff helpful and friendly. Food comes out quickly and at perfect serving temperature. We hope to return soon as they have a variety of dishes we want to try. A perfect opportunity to try Taiwanese food and shouldn't be missed!

Went here for dinner with the girls and we enjoyed everything we ordered and can't wait to return and try more things. The popcorn chicken can be made spicy or mild. We ordered a level 3 out of 5 and it was definitely on the spicier side! I can handle spice and noticed instead of a heat in my mouth it was more like a numbing spice if that makes sense?! This dish is so tasty and we loved the fried basil. The spicy eggplant dish is served cold and has a spicy sauce. It was tasty and different but I'd skip it next time since I'm not a fan of cold eggplant. Their pan fried dumplings were tasty. We loved the garlic sauce it's served with. It's packed with fresh pungent garlic! Next time I want to try a noodle dish instead of this. The sleeper hit was the egg crepe which had a crispy flakey crust and green onions inside. I'd order this again! Unfortunately I didn't get a picture. The service was excellent, the staff were very friendly and we were the last people in there and they didn't rush us out (we rushed ourselves out!). Restaurant is very clean. Look for it on the river side of the Chinese cultural plaza across from the OG Legends.

My previous 2-star experience was right before the ownership change. The new owners even reached out for me to try them again. It just took 7 years but I made it! Since that time, Seasons Taiwanese Eatery has moved to a new location within the Chinatown Cultural Plaza, taking over the previous location of Legend Vegetarian Restaurant and Pho 88, right across from Legend Seafood Restaurant, near River St. The inside is bright, clean, and spacious. More comfortable than the previous location. I've heard friends talk about how they had a hard time handling the mid to low spice level of the noodle soup at Seasons, which was odd to me as I never associate Taiwanese food with being spicy. But I'm always up to challenge my spice tolerance! The menu is pretty similar to the previous location. There's a decent variety of appetizers, noodle soups, and rice dishes. I like they offer a two choice combo on certain appetizers, so you can try more. I had the Braised Pork Intestines and Beef Tendon. Seemed like both were put on the plate and reheated cause it came out hot, and it had a type of minced pork sauce topping that had a slight sour taste. The intestines were okay. Tender and bland, but a little bit too much fat still attached inside. The tendons were slightly better. A bit more flavor, but not as tender. Not sure, but reheating them together and adding the same sauce on top kind of just melded the dish together and everything just tasted the same and less appetizing. Next was the Chef's Spicy Ma-La Beef Noodle Soup - Level 3 Spice. I was warned by the server that level 3 is "quite" spicy. I'm good. Thanks! Level 3 spice was exactly how a level 3 spice level should be--mid. It does hit you, but not too much where your nose is running, eyes watering, and dying for water. Unfortunately, that was it. Just spice. The broth had no depth of flavor, no richness, no beefiness, no aromatics. Just the chili pepper/chili oil spice. The beef shank was thick cut and tender, but it didn't get any flavor or taste in the meat. And the "Ma"/numbing part was minimal. The sour cabbage nicely balanced out the spice. Overall, I love their spice levels. This is how it should be! I wish all other restaurants would follow it. The Level 3 was perfect mid-level spiciness. I'm a bit curious on the Level 5, but we'll see. The food could have been better. The noodle soup didn't get hit the mark for me. It didn't have the depth of flavors and aromatics. Spicy is just spicy taste. The service was good. Food came out quick. Comfortable place to eat.

My two friends and I visited Seasons Taiwanese Eatery on Thursday for a late lunch on 9/4/25. Seasons is a bright and cool restaurant. One of my friends always frequents this restaurant and invited my other friend and I to have lunch here. We were greeted warmly by Brian, the owner, who was very hospitable. We were seated and met four other companions who enjoy Taiwanese fare, as well. We ordered our soft drink, and teas and had water brought to us as well. We were excited to eat the assortment of dishes that were prepared for us. Our table had an abundance of delicacies that we shared with one another. Here is a list of what we had: Popcorn Chicken, Fried Chicken Wings, Braised Pork Belly, Fried Green Beans, Eggplant with Chili Sauce, Dragon Dumplings, Boiled Dumplings, Spicy Cucumbers, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, Braised Tofu, Black Pepper Oxtail, Spicy Beef Noodle Soup and Beef Noodle Soup, and Egg fish. We also had extra spices and a special garlic sauce as our condiments. Everything was so flavorful. I enjoyed everything. There were various textures, spiciness, coolness, crunchiness, and smoothness that enhanced the different meats, seafood, and vegetables. The noodles were nice and chewy and the broth for the soups were delicately balanced. After finishing our meal, everyone at our table felt completely satisfied. Some of us even packed up leftovers to enjoy later. It was truly a meal to remember! The service was outstanding, and Brian was not only an excellent host but also kept our group entertained throughout. We'll definitely be returning to Seasons Taiwanese Eatery soon, and I highly recommend trying their delicious Taiwanese dishes.

I was invited by my dear friend to check this place out and I'm SO glad she did! We got to try so many amazing dishes I'm still thinking about it... You'd think fried green beans would be "meh" but that was so good! Light and not greasy. Found out they use sweet potato flour instead and that's what true Taiwanese style is. Popcorn chicken comes Mrs with crispy basil! Never had fried basil and oh boy I'm a fan!! Duck blood tofu is yummm. Don't be weird about it and just try it! This chef is a legit Taiwan trained chef who didn't just inherit a business and do what he thinks is right. He made sure to go there and apprentice to bring home the authentic art of Taiwanese cuisine and it shows. I'm so glad I got to experience this I'll be back for sure!!

Located in the Chinatown Cultural Plaza on the bottom floor across from Legend Seafood is Seasons Taiwanese Eatery. Seasons looks nice from the outside with glass at the sides of the entrance. Inside is nice as well with a bright green interior, chairs with high backs, and clean wooden tables. The space feels inviting but not overwhelming. We were seated pretty quickly and after we arrived, the restaurant started to fill up. There is a fan and AC inside so it was a cool contrast to the hot day outside. We decided to order the popcorn chicken, stir fried ong choi, and the beef egg crepe roll. We waited a bit for the order to be taken and to get water. The popcorn chicken tasted lighter than expected. The flavor was also a bit light for me. The ong choi was tasty with the pork sauce. The beef egg crepe roll was pretty good and crunchy on the outside. All of the food was pretty good but I would have liked a bit more sauce/salt for the dishes. Next time, we will go for the noodles, which we have heard good things about.

After a long hot morning workout in the sun. After braving the lines and parking hassle at the warehouse store. After completing your errands, your banking. Sit down for lunch at the Seasons Taiwanese Eatery. While you are tested for your spicy food stamina, all your worldly worries are gone. Nothing like just getting through the heat of a bowl of Spicy Beef Noodles (Just Level 2) to take your mind off of the daily grind. The dark salty, spicy soup with the added cilantro herbs will level up your senses and restart your day. Seasons stands out with its very clean, brightly lit dining room. (An oasis from the Chinatown) The servers were very attentive, even with a full dining area. There was a little bit of wait for my order, which meant, to me, everything was cooked to order. My fried dumplings were HOT! I highly suggest you give it a try.

We have been to Oahu multiple times but have never had Taiwanese there, what's up with that? My husband got the 411 on some legit Taiwanese food in Chinatown so we ventured on the bus to Chinatown. Chinatown during the day, cool. Chinatown at night? Gary Indiana vibes, I did not want to be walking around, Anyways back to Seasons! Nice little spot and great service. I wasn't feeling the traditional dish of beef noodle soup so went with some smaller items to share instead. -Popcorn chicken was fire, small was enough for two people. -Scallion Pancake with egg was delicious as well. -eggplant was the only disappointment. I was expecting something warm or hot but it was cold and off putting. I had a few bites then called it a day. Worth a stop when in Honolulu! Flavors were spot on for traditional Taiwanese food!

Seasons Taiwanese Eatery Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Seasons Taiwanese Eatery

Do you homemade the wrappers (skins) for your dumplings? Homemade wrappers really make the dumplings more flavorful.

unfortunately, we do not. We get them fresh from the factory. We found that factory made ones are better suited for our purpose. Flavourful and consistency is what we are aiming for.

    Do they take lunch reservations?

For party of 5 or more. We recommend that you make reservation for lunch and dinner.

I see reviewers mention that the beef noodle soup here is Szechuan style, but others say Taiwanese. The two are clearly different, so is the flavor more Szechuan or Taiwanese?

How many of the Taiwanese pork sausage comes in a order? Is it like the picture i see on DoorDash with 5 sausages?

It's actually by the weight. We cut them up for you into slices.

How many eggs are in one side order of braised eggs?

    1 egg per order

Is this business still open? It's been closed for the past week and there's no sign indiciating if / when it will reopen.

Sorry for the inconvenience past week. We had some family emergencies and weren't able to be open. We are back to full operating now. Thank you

Do you guys no longer have the crepe and the pouches that had the beef and bean sprouts with the sugar/peanut?

Unfortunately, at this current time, we longer serve those two items. We hope we can bring them in the future.

    Are there any vegetarian dishes?

We currently do have a couple of dishes that vegetarian can enjoy, such as the fried tofu, stir fried green beans and stir fry cabbage. We are looking to expand on our vegetarian dishes by the beginning of next year.

All I can say about eating at the - "Fun Station" is that it's more fun when eating with a friend,…read more& getting a 20% discount.........well, that's just an extra bonus! So the thing about coming to Fun Station is the "suspended flying noodle thingy" which I didn't go for, but if you like Instagramable stuffs, then I supposed you would probably go for that flying-noodle dish. As for me, I mainly came to try their Minute Chicken Cake Noodles, and as a bonus......... I actually got a 20% discount thanks to my friend - Jennifer C. who let a Bruddah know about da DEALAGES in da Sunday food section newspaper, as they had a coupon! The Sunday morning when I came with my friend, I can clearly see that this restaurant was thriving, as every table in the restaurant was taken. Fun Station specializes in noodles, but if you're not into that, they do serve other items like - soups, vegetable dishes, rice plates, & porridge (jook). Upon looking over the menu, we ordered the following items - 1. Frrrrrrried Chicken Wings ($9.95) for an appetizer 2. Minute Chicken Cake Noodles ($17.95 - minus da 20% coupon DEALAGES) 3. Beef Brisket Tendon & Won Ton in soup ($18.95) What can I say about da grub??? Da chicken wings came out hot & crispy. Although they featured only "flats" vs. drums (I like drums), I must say da wings was nicely executed. As for the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles.........nicely plated on a fancy smanshy panda plate. The cake noodles weren't drowning in gravy, so the noodles stayed crispy on the dish. I really liked how they did this dish, and would easily come back here to eat it again. My friend had the Beef Brisket Tendon & Won Ton soup. The dish looked good, and there weren't any complaints, so I take it that it was pretty ono! Overall, a very satisfying meal and the service here was on point, as the staff was friendly & very efficient. Easy 5 stars for the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles! Chance 'em!

That was the first thing we ordered and the waiter asked if we've had it before so they could make sure that they presented it as the picture show it. We also ordered the chicken wings, salt and pepper pork chops, garlic, bok choy, and the salted fish and chicken fried rice. Everything was so delicious. Food was promptly delivered, and staff was very friendly. It's also BYOB and there's a Foodland in the parking lot so that was a plus as we went to the store to get some alcohol. Restaurant is very casual with about 10 to 12 tables. They were pretty busy when we arrived, but they moved with the quickness to make sure everyone got their food timely. I love the presentation of the flying noodle, although I was in a fan of the dish itself as it had a little sweetness, which I wasn't a fan of. It was just OK to me. However, everything else we ate was tasty and decently priced.

Classic comfort Chinese food with Hawaiian names…read more I was honestly a bit confused by the branding of the restaurant and their item names when I first got to the end of the food hall, but they probably know their market better than I, and all I needed to see was minced pork over rice (the Neo loco moco) and I knew it was going to be a good spot for food. All the comforting classics are here: minced pork over rice, sesame noodles (don't forget to mix in the sauce), fried tofu, wonton soup, hot and sour soup, fried rice, you name it, they have it (kidding, obviously - they may not have it if it's not on their menu). Though, I will say that the pork chop was a bit disappointing, as it lacked flavor compared to everything else. Basically everything is good here, you just have to sit down and hope you get service (when it's busy and full, it can feel understaffed).

The dipping sauce was excellent too! The waitress was amazing. She was by herself but handling a packed restaurant with ease. The only thing that would have made it better was if the restrooms weren't backed up and stinking up Stix but not their fault. Place is a must try if you like gyoza.

Good thing all of the food came out as they were ready, since items like their fresh blanket noodles took longer to prepare (but def worth the wait). We started with their chicken wings which were lean on the meat but I think that made it easier to flash fry because they were so hot and crispy and still juicy! We also ordered their cucumber salad and eggplant salad-- I'd probably just go with the cucumber salad next time but both were good. For noodle dishes we went with the dan dan, ja jiang and the beef noodle soup but we subbed it for the blanket noodle for an extra $4. Hungry but also in the mood for karaoke? Come here!

The place was empty for lunch. I was so looking forward to the blanket dan dan noodles and cucumber salad. Sadly the flavors are completely different. Gone are the flavorful dishes and mouth numbing heat that I associated with joy cup noodle mean. The ong choy was well cooked and seasoned nicely. The gentleman was so nice I almost hate to write this update but I think people should know that this is no longer the joy cup noodle mean that we knew and loved.

The texture is more enjoyable when eating. Flat noddle - would have prefer to be more wide in size. Had the beef noodle classic -flavor in broth was decent, but could use with additional pickle vegetables to bring some sour and cut the richness of the broth. beef itself was very tender and came in separate bowl. Breakdown easily. not spicy at all though. next dish tried - was the pickle fish noodle - first time trying to dish anywhere. Surprisingly preferred this over the beef noodle. a little bit of sour, but just the right amount with the creamy broth mix. This with the chewy noodle was bomb. Highly recommended* price - reasonable for quality - but could have more noodle for quantity*

We had to order one of their sig crab dishes, and we rounded out the meal w/ beef and long beans, sweet & sour pork belly, eggplant and fried rice. The crab was amazing! The curry sauce was so deep & complex. In addition, the crab was fresh bc they have tanks in the restaurant. Of course I called dibs on the head, and it was packed with goodies. I added rice to the head (in Ilocano this is called "labay", adding rice to soup or broth to extend the meal). I was in heaven. The other dishes were all big portions and very good. The meat was tender, and the veggies were fresh and crunchy. I believe all the other dishes were ~ $20/each. The staff was super nice. We didn't have a res, but luckily we were seated in 20 min on a busy Sun night. Regarding the dining area, its tight but comfy. You have to wash your hands after, and the bathrooms are clean. I will def return the next time I come home. I want to try another crab dish (about 8 versions), and build a meal around the crab.
