Grilled gyozas
Lauree T.

I am an avid gyoza enjoyer and this place makes GREAT gyozas. I usually get the tantan gyozas with nice broth and the gyozas itself are also great. The pan fried gyozas are DELECTABLE oh my gosh I love them so much. You can also write on the walls and it's more of a cozy soft lighting place. They bring the food quite fast as well and it's definitely more chill.

Located in that corner building with Jamba Juice, kozo sushi and Starbucks is Gyoza Studio Kubota... Made a last minute reservation... glad I did. Gyoza Studio was packed. The adjusted table seating to accommodate us. People very nice. Base in recommendations from other Yelp friends we ordered the belly pork karaage, cilantro gyoza and mabo tofu ramen. All were good... although as expected, the karaage belly pork was quite oily... yummy, but oily just because of what it is. Mabo tofu ramen was very thick and tasty. I was hoping for more cilantro flavor in the gyoza. It's basically pork gyoza topped with cilantro. All I. All it was a pleasant dinner experience. We were in and out within the hour. Adequate parking in the back by Jamba Juice.

Yuto makes the best gyozas. Hands-down. Periodt. While they are known for their gyozas their ramen is just as stellar. I usually get the red ramen which is spicier but today I got the white ramen. Forgot how good it is too. Wow. The chicken paitan broth is so comforting and the thin noodles they use is similar to what I would expect from a ramen shop in Japan. The broth feels like a warm hug - especially with all the rain outside. Ramen and gyoza is such a perfect pairing for a rainy day. Definitely check them out! I always end up going here. It's hard to go anywhere else for ramen because I always end up wanting to come back here. Service is always kind and they are very prompt with check-ins. Ambiance is chill and very late-night Izakaya vibe. Love it.

This hole in the wall place is where Tenkaippin used to be in Kapahulu on the corner of Kapahulu and Date St. There is free parking in the rear that they share with Starbucks, and a handful of other places. The better half and I love a good bowl of ramen and gyoza and this is a good place to get both. Our eyes were big from looking at the menu (scan the QR) and it didn't help as we were both hungry. We ordered fried gyoza, shiso gyoza, garlic gyoza, and pesto gyoza. We also got their fried rice, Yu-Lin-Chi Fried Chicken and a bowl of white chicken Paitan ramen. Yes I told you we were hungry and we just love to try a variety of food. The fried rice while VERY tasty was kind of expensive but it was very good. Of all the gyoza that we tried, we really liked the pesto one as it tasted like an Italian dish we had at another place. The other gyozas was good too but the pesto one was really good in our opinion. The wrap wasn't thick and it didn't taste frozen like the place up the street ( not saying names but IYKYK where I'm talking about). The Yu-Lin-Chi chicken was good and went well with the fried rice. Loved that sauce. They should bottle that sauce and sell it - YUM! The White Chicken Paitan Ramen, broth was nice and rich tasting. Ramen noodles had a nice chew to it and the egg was perfect. It was so good that there wasn't a drop left in the bowl. If you like to draw or scribble your name, they provide pens so you can write or draw something on the walls. It reminded me of a place in Japan that we went to and the food hit the spot.

This place is a super cozy little Japanese spot and the ramen here is absolutely incredible. We tried both the red and white paitan ramen and these might be some of my favorite bowls of ramen in Honolulu. The broth is rich and creamy with that perfect chicken paitan consistency, the kind that just warms your soul. The red has a nice kick to it while the white lets the pure chicken flavor shine through. Both were fantastic and I genuinely had a hard time picking a favorite between the two. We also tried the cheese gyoza which were honestly just ok. Nothing bad about them but they didn't blow me away. That said, they have a ton of other gyoza varieties on the menu so I'm not going to judge the gyoza game off one flavor. Definitely planning to come back and work through more of the options. The spot itself is small and intimate. It feels like you're eating at a legit neighborhood joint rather than some touristy ramen chain. Staff was super friendly too. If you're in Honolulu and looking for a solid bowl of ramen, I'd definitely recommend giving this place a shot. Can't wait to come back and try more of the gyoza lineup.

6 piece, chicken nanban, potato salad ($40)

I've been wanting to try this place for a while now. Finally made it here and was a bit disappointed. :( Called in a small phone order and was told my order would take 45 minutes. Showed up after 40 minutes and my food had apparently been sitting and was lukewarm. I paid almost $40 for a 6 piece regular gyoza, side chicken namban, and char siu potato salad. Gyoza were soggy and wet from sitting in the container. The meat filling was either overcooked or very lean. Nanban was good but maybe a bad choice for takeout. Tartar sauce was runny, the chicken skin was thick and chewy though the batter was quite tasty. Again, lukewarm. Potato salad was topped with nice crispy onions but was dry. There was not a piece of charsiu to be found in my portion. All just bad luck, I assume. Nice people and a lively place. Easy parking. Too bad the timing was not so good.

I've been wanting to dine at Gyoza Studio Kubota for about 2 years. It took so long because they aren't open during the day and open at 5pm. Mink likes to eat dinner shortly after she finishes work, before she retired, and that was always before 5pm. While she was in Thailand and I had to come back early to take care of my dad, I got to finally dine there with Yelp GF. By coincidence that it was the day before their 2 year anniversary. Happy 2 year anniversary and may they have many more! We arrived shortly after they opened and they already had diners inside. They let us pick any table and water came shortly after. You scan their QR code for the menu. Due to jet lag and catching up on work while I was away, I didn't read any reviews of the restaurant. Glad Yelp GF was there because I thought their featured dish in the menu was ramen lol. The place has a chill Japanese restaurant vibe with the wall being decorated with customers artwork or text. Customer service was friendly and efficient. We ordered a White Taki Gyoza, a Red Taki Gyoza and a Pork Belly Karaage. The Taki Gyoza's came on portable butane stovetops. That was unexpected and the bowls were huge! We could have shared one and got more menu items to try in hindsight. Both options were good but I enjoyed the White option more. The Pork Belly Karaage is a must try! It's delicious! Worth every calorie lol. I was quite full but we wanted to try the add on of the Curry Cheese Risotto so we did that on Yelp GF's White Soup option. It was very good but wait to eat it because it's hot! Glad I finally got to dine there and knock off another bookmark.

Late night eats in Kapahulu, Honolulu, Hawai'i... After a movie, we searched our Yelp apps for a place that was still open and wasn't in Waikiki... LOL! We found Gyoza Studio Kubota! We parked in the Starbucks parking lot (since it was closed) and walked around the corner. There was a table open and we were motioned over. Service was efficient and polite. This cozy shop was kind of trendy since the wall had customers' autographs and drawings on it... like graffiti. I got the Gyoza Ramen which was comforting. The gyoza was tasty! I'd go again since it was convenient!

I have to make a second visit to Gyoza Studio Kubota - not just to try their different gyoza offerings. They are open from 500p till midnight (closed on Wednesday) except Fridays and Saturdays, when they close at 100a for all those customers who are hungover and hangry. Initial visit was for their lunch special bento: gyoza ( 3 pc ), karaage chicken, fried rice, kim chee, and a couple of broccoli florets. This was during the Summer and they have since discontinued any lunch service...it was a brief trial period, evidently. Gyoza was good. Fried rice was a bit greasy but also good. I recall some spiciness which must have come from the kim chee. Good and for $16+ a good value, as well. Interior decor...uhhh, Japanese street chic....a nice casual vibe. They encourage customers to draw and write on the walls. I'll let my photos tell the tale. Parking in the back - shared with other businesses, to include Starbucks Kapahulu. They are next to the music store.

Super late review since my visit (Oct. 2) but I still vividly dream about Chicken Paitan Ramen! That broth was so rich, creamy, and had so much chicken flavor. The noodles were also perfectly cooked. I also ordered the Yamaimo Karaage, and they had a nice crunch and crispness to them. The garlic dumplings initially weren't a wow for me, but as I ate more the garlic flavor came through. I chose to eat here since my flight landed late at night & they open late, so a huge bonus. Service was also super friendly and nice, and my waitress answered all the questions I had. Overall, I'd highly recommend coming here for ramen!

Mayas in the middle!

The food was great, nice and fresh and the karage had a clean crunch. The real star of this place was maya our amazing server. She was super attentive but not in a hovering way, she always made sure our drinks were full and we were having a good time. Her friendly attitude lifting our moods and made our experience amazing. Mahalo maya!

A job well done here. 5/5 for side dish options! Recommend the edamame! Cucumbers! And the spicy red sauce ramen. Staff attentive! Hours open are ideal for late night owls! The spot is fun, low-key, and nice for a group. Only downside is parking for those who struggle walking/ would need a wheel chair. Wish the lot was closer. But! This was WORTH GOING TO! Female waitress was wonderful and kind.

Lamb Gyoza

This place has a cozy, homey vibe, super cute inside. I loved all the homemade art on the walls, it was so creative and fun to look at. I found myself reading and admiring everything while waiting for my food, which made the time pass quickly. There was a TV playing and music in the background, creating a laid-back atmosphere. They also had a board listing all their gyoza varieties, which was a nice touch. I ordered a hot green tea (they microwaved it), the lamb gyoza, and the red chicken paitan ramen. My ramen actually came out first, before the drink or gyoza, but it looked amazing: rich, creamy, and super inviting. It tasted just as good as it looked. The chicken was sliced nicely and flavorful, and the egg was cooked perfectly. The lamb gyoza had great flavor, nothing too wild, but definitely tasty. And the tea was solid, even though it was just microwaved. The overall vibe was great definitely skewed toward a younger crowd, mostly people in their 20s and 30s. I went on a Friday night, and there were new customers walking in every 5-10 minutes, so it seems like a popular spot. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and the experience. I'd come back.

I'm not sure what happened to my original review when I tried this spot 2 years ago but this update…read morewas well deserved! During both visits, the employees were so accommodating. Even with a decent amount of seating, there is minimal space so they ask that you leave your strollers outside. When we called the first time saying our daughter was asleep they arranged everything in order to fit the stroller inside. The second visit, I had an even bigger stroller because it was a double stroller for my daughter and son. When I said my son was asleep they again, quickly tried to arrange space for the stroller until we realized he woke up. I truly appreciate them being so welcoming because I've come across many establishments that are not especially towards kids. As for the food, the first time the tonkatsu was a miss for me. I was comparing it to a popular spot on the island that books out months in advance that I tried just before my first visit here and it just seemed a lot more oily and not as tender. We were actually going to eat at the other business again but with two kids and walking non stop on our trip already, I was so happy we had an option closer to us. Both times, we were coming from Hilton Hawaiian Village. They have the cutest car bento boxes for the kids, and they let you choose the car color. My daughter loved the mini umbrella that came with her plate. My son was days before turning 1 year old so a lot of things ended up on the floor and even then, they were so kind about it. The best thing though for my husband and I AND my son, was the loco moco which we were told was limited and a new item for dinner since it was primarily only served as a lunch option? The flavor of the gravy alone was sooo good and rich. My son ended up eating my whole portion of rice and gravy with no crumbs left behind or on the floor lol. The other katsu items we ordered were nice and lightly coated and were not heavily oily at all. The only thing that I felt lacked was their curry especially in comparison to their gravy. I would definitely recommend coming here and I can't wait to come back. That was one of our favorite new dishes this trip and we come every year!

We got the pork katsu deluxe set and recommend getting another side of rice for 2 people. The fried oysters are also a standout dish so I definitely recommend that. Service is quick and portions are big so I also recommend splitting a dish or doing family style.

Very random one morning after stopping by kona purveyors in Waikiki, I went to the restroom and while my husband was waiting for me he decided to randomly check if they had any reservations available and we were able to get one for the next day! Getting a reservation is definitely the way to go, I've seen people wait in standby however seating is not guaranteed since they prioritize those who have a reservation. The service was amazing! They are constantly checking up on you to see if you need anything else. I like how they offer different kinds of miso soup. I personally had limitations due to my shellfish allergy, but it was amazing! The katsu we ordered was one of the biggest one that they offer. It's crazy how big the katsu was and surprisingly it was super crispy, light, and even juicy in the inside! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to try katsu in hawaii!

The atmosphere and decor were great very warm and inviting and the service and overall vibe felt authentic. However, our experience with the food was disappointing this time. The tonkatsu we received was overcooked and slightly burnt, which gave it a bitter taste and made it hard to enjoy. For the price and reputation, we expected better consistency in quality. Overall, while we appreciate the ambience and understand why it's well-loved by many, this visit didn't meet our expectations, and it's not our favorite experience.

I've been to Mitch's a few times and when I saw that they opened up an Izakaya next door, I knew I had to try it and made a reservation on Yelp. Izakaya Mitch's specializes more in cooked dishes while the other side is more about the fresh / raw fish. But that didn't stop us from ordering the assorted sashimi. All the fish were from Japan and yes you can taste the difference. The fatty tuna was obviously my favorite but even the regular tuna and the hamachi was so buttery, it just melts in your mouth. Plus, it comes with real wasabi. Not horseradish, real wasabi. For the cooked dishes we got the hokkaido crab tempura with a side of matcha salt. One of the best tempuras I've ever had. The kamameshi, a rice dish with their fish of the day. We got the half order and it's kinda like a bibimbap where they mix the rice for you at your table. I saw that people were raving about this on Yelp and put in our order right when we got in because it takes 25-ish minutes to prepare. On special, they had a karei karaage. Karei is a flat fish and I've never had a fish karaage before, it was perfectly fried and dipped in the ponzu sauce it was so good.
