2, maybe 3 smokers smoking throughout their dinner.
    Jason T.

As an American-born Chinese (ABC), I firmly believe you don't go to Chinese or Taiwanese spots for the service - you go for the food or the value. With that said, the lamb and the beef were decent, but I'd skip the overcooked chicken skin. The young girl working there was nice and as helpful as she could be, especially as the small dining space was starting to fill up around 11:30PM. One of my biggest dining turn-offs is being exposed to secondhand smoke while eating. Unfortunately, there was a table of three people smoking less than a foot from the door so that ruined it for us. I'd like to revisit in the near future to try some of the other items and hopefully have a better experience.

I have been here so many times I didn't realize that I never left a review. Volcano Skewer House is a very small establishment, with around ~8 tables, some only able to seat two people. This is supposed to be a drink and eat spot, like a izakaya but Chinese style. However I just like to eat so that is what I usually come here to do. My must orders: * Scallion Pancake: 10/10 perfectly crispy but also dense and nice a really nice bite to it. It is pretty oily but the taste and texture makes it worth it * Beef Intestine: 10/10 gamey but in the best way possible. If you can handle the less "ordinary" cuts of meat, I would recommend this heavily, it is flavorful to the max. It is also crunch on the outside and fatty on the inside * Beef Skewer: 9/10 just a must order, nothing SPECIAL but its tender, fatty (on some parts), and flavorful * Lamb Skewer: 9/10 also just another must order, same as beef but just gamey if you're an enjoyer of that. * Chicken Gizzard: 9.5/10 I really enjoy the crunch and bite to it, also seasoned perfectly like everything else * Beef Tongue: 8.5/10 usually a must order for me at skewer places, but this spot seems to cut their beef tongue quite thick so it was less tender than I usually like it. I would heavily recommend this spot, especially for late night drink and eats or overall grubs.

Pretty empty on a Saturday night

Finally got to try this place out after it being on my list forever! We walked in on a Saturday night and it's pretty empty... I was like oh-oh but still decided to give it a shot We got some skewers and some seafood dishes. The garlic oysters were pretty good. The meat was seasoned with a slightly vinegary taste in the sauce and I'm just not a huge fan, same for the clams with vermicelli. It might be the taste of some Chinese region, but I've had Chinese skewers before in LA and I was expecting more of a cumin taste than the marinade they used. I got the chicken hearts and I could taste they weren't very fresh... the quality of the meat was ok and I'm not a big fan of their seasoning either... The scallions pancake was really greasy but nonetheless it was crispy and savory, just wish there's more scallion. The eggplant was not bad but again it's a bit oily for me. Our server was nice, but she wasn't attentive enough. She was at the back and didn't come and ask us what we needed. I had to keep flagging her down for napkins, more utensils, etc. I gotta say their prices were pretty reasonable though. A seafood dish was less than $20. The whole time we were there, no one came in to sit down and eat. So weird. I don't take that as a good sign... Not sure if we'll be back... we were really hoping to like it. :-/

If you love Chinese-style BBQ, skewers, and tableside fire shows, this place is a must-try in Honolulu! We came with a group of friends and had an absolute blast. The menu has tons of options -- lamb, beef, chicken wings, shrimp, corn, mochi, tofu -- all served on skewers and grilled to smoky perfection. You pick your skewers, they grill it right there, and you get to dip them in a variety of flavorful sauces. Everything came out hot, juicy, and full of bold, savory flavor. We also tried a few drinks -- they have soju and beer, which pair perfectly with the grilled meats. Prices are reasonable, portions are solid, and the vibes are perfect for a casual night out, date night, or group hang. Pro tips: Go with a group so you can try more skewers Try the lamb and mochi skewers -- Service was friendly and fast, and the staff made great recommendations. I'll definitely be back again soon.

Excellent Chinese style dry rub of spices, bursting with flavor on grilled meats or veggies! The seasoning is not salty and you can select your level of chili heat. I really enjoyed this eatery, where the skewers are cooked for you in their kitchen and served on a safe heated tray. You do not leave the restaurant smelling like smoke but you do leave with a very satisfied tummy! The variety of grilled meats came out first. When I tasted the fish tofu skewer, I thought that was my favorite. Then I instantly fell in love with their tofu skin skewers and ordered more! But then the rest of our order came out and I couldn't pick just one favorite. I was pleasantly surprised with their seasoned chives. There are mixed reviews on their garlic eggplant but I really enjoyed that dish. If you haven't tried their scallion pancake, I highly recommend that, it's so crispy and tasty....we ordered another one! Their customer service was fabulous, very attentive and accommodating. Our seating area was clean. I enjoyed listening to the Chinese music playing on their big screen. Everything we ordered was excellent! Will totally be a repeat customer here :)

Romantic and fun date spot for those who are interested in trying something you can tell your friends about. This restaurant is located near Walmart in town. ADA accessible entrance, though it might be a tight fit. We had the sweetest waitress here, Vicki, who was attentive and went above and beyond for us. At the end of our meal we wanted to order their dessert, but they were out. Vicki found some Melona bars in the freezer that I think were the cook's personal stash and gave them to us with a smile. Thank you Vicki for making our stay special. The skewers here are delicious. You can order the perfect amount to be full without wasting any food. Great for groups who want to try lots of different things. The cucumber salad was a nice balance to all the meats. The only thing we can think of to make this even better, is if iSing (karaoke bar) next door and Volcano Skewer House partnered up :) these skewers would make the perfect karaoke food.

    Cucumber Salad with our skewers

This was the first time I've been here and it was overall enjoyable. It's a small restaurant with maybe 6 tables at most. We got the cucumber salad as well as the lamb, beef tendon, chicken gizzard, chicken heart, beef tongue, pork belly, and another beef one that I can't remember. It was relatively cheap with each set being $5 (I believe it ranged between 2-5 skewers per set depending on what kind of meat you ordered). They all had the same seasoning, which tasted good but it was a little in the spicy side and you can definitely tell it had msg in it (not a big deal to me, but just as a heads up). The cucumber salad was a good accompaniment to the meats. I'd definitely come back here if I'm in the area, but also wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

I've always seen this place while passing by, and it's been on my list to try out since I love skewers. I typically park at Walmart and walk over. It's quite a small place and their service was quick and attentive. The food was okay, but it wasn't special in my opinion. The pork belly was quite dry and tasteless but the beef and lamb were pretty good. I love Chinese spices and herbs but the flavor here lacked the intensity for me. It was nice to try but I don't think I would go back, especially considering the price which was quite high ($5 for most skewers).

VOLCANO SKEWER HOUSE If you're looking for a spot to grab a quick bite or a late-night snack, check out @volcanoskewerhouse Volcano Skewer House. It's a small, cozy joint specializing in Chinese-style skewers and small plates. They've got a great selection of skewers like lamb, beef, chicken, and pork, along with tasty dishes such as scallion pancakes, enoki mushrooms, and seafood. The seasoning is on point, and this special spice mix sets it apart. Plus, they serve the skewers on a warmer right at your table, which I thought was pretty cool. Overall, I had a blast trying out their dishes, and I'm returning for more of their squid and garlic oysters. There's just something about food on sticks that makes it so enjoyable to eat! They have a parking behind but it is not a convention parking, parking attendant has to park for you. So, even the store owner will tell you to park at Walmart. When we enter the restaurant, that was a empty table, however, a customer's baby stroller was blocking the table, so the waitress instead of moving the stroller to clear the space for us to seat. she tell us to sit outside the restaurant in the open area which does not make sense. So I told her, why don't you just move the baby stroller and let us sit there? She did but she doesn't seem so happy doing so. Service was pretty sub-par, no smile at all, we asked for water but she forgot. We ask for paper napkins, we have to go to the counter to remind her. As for the food, you do not have to grill your own skewers, they cook it and bring to your table. They set up a warmer to keep your skewers hot but it was so weak, the meat do not feel warm or hot while placed on the warmer. We like the crayfish dish, spicy but not over powering. The salad was so so. The skewers meat are all cut into small pieces but $5 for 5 skewers, not bad. Since this is our first visit, we over ordered and end up has a lot of food. They do have a share bathroom on the same floor which you access with security code. Over all, the food is Ok, but the service was not that good. BTW, they charge 3% if you pay with credit card.

Saw a write up of this place in a magazine so we decided to try it. It's a small restaurant with only a few tables. The benches they have you sit on are hard wood. Though we were the first customers and only a couple groups came after us, service was slow. Got a variety of foods including the seabbass, garlic eggplant, green beans, enoki mushrooms and beef and tendon skewers. The meat is served in 1 oz portions on the skewers and were chewy and overcooked. Though we asked for nonspicy fish, it was still spicy and too spicy for the others in my party. The grilled veggies were good though and had great flavor.

Service was a little slow but they were still friendly. The atmosphere is interesting and kinda fun. Karaoke at the bar so it's a little lively. The skewers flavor was really good. The sliced shank was good with the green onion pancake. The flavors are a little more sweet. Overall a good experience. Spot doesn't have many tables so I assume it could be difficult to get a seat on Friday Saturday nights.

My favorite implementation of this style of skewer. Very reasonable, clean. Bring some pillows because the chairs are not comfy.

And yes, now I will absolutely be thinking about them often. If you think you know cake noodles because you've had Cantonese noodles before, Lee Ho Fook in Honolulu's Chinatown is here to humble you. I was definitely humbled. Tucked along the canal in Chinatown, Lee Ho Fook Restaurant is one of those cozy little neighborhood spots where the tables are close, the room is snug, and the noodles do all the talking. My Honolulu homies, twinsie "Auntie" Nadine C. and Cycle Buddy Randy S., brought me here for noodles and I'm eternally grateful they did. We ordered the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles, tossed noodles with choi sum and won ton, plus a side of ong choy. Every plate understood the assignment. As an Arizona girl, I had never had minute chicken or cake noodles before and fully assumed they'd be in the same lane as Cantonese noodles. Yelpers, I was wrong. Delightfully wrong. Cake noodles are a Cantonese classic but the magic is all in the texture: pan-fried until golden and crisp on the outside, while the center stays soft enough to soak up all that glossy savory sauce. It's the best of both noodle worlds - crispy and chewy. A true textural delight. The Minute Chicken Cake Noodles were the star for me. That contrast between the crispy edges and soft middle was wildly satisfying, and the chicken was silky, savory, and exactly the kind of comfort food that makes you stop mid-bite just to appreciate what's happening. The tossed noodles with choi sum and won ton were equally comforting in a more classic, no-fuss way, and the ong choy was the perfect green side dish that was garlicky, fresh, and necessary. Lee Ho Fook is small, comforting, and exactly the kind of place you want when what you really need is a bowl of something delicious and humble. Come hungry, bring a few friends, and order the cake noodles.

They didn't rush us like most restaurants with their 90 minutes time limit. They brought out the food quickly and efficiently. Refilled our water and tea without us asking. Very accommodating when we had special requests. Some of my favorites are the green beans, egg tarts, onion pancakes, and beef chow fun. Highly recommended especially for delicious, authentic Chinese Food!

KSR moved fr its long time location on Kapiolani to Amanu. It was time to hit up this old skool…read morespot for dim sum. We ordered pork hash, manapua, har gow, spring rolls, pickled cucumbers ($12.95) and a platter of char siu & duck. The dim sum was about $8/each, which I thought was very reasonable. My buddy really likes siao mai, and he said KSR has the best ones out of the places I have brought him to in HNL. On the other hand, the manapua was just okay: The ratio of meat to bao was low. I took char siu fr the platter and added it to the bao. We might have been better off skipping the baos and ordering a rice or noodle plate. The har gow and spring rolls were pretty good. The rolls arrived piping hot, and the har gow had a nice texture in the wrapper. Fourthly, the cucumber was fresh & crunchy, and had lots of garlic. I ate some with the char siu to cut thru the fat. Lastly, the char siu & duck platter was very good. They do a good job of putting some char on the bbq pork. The duck was tasty, but there were a couple of bony pieces. Regarding the ambiance, its big in here. Although they don't use carts, the aisles are wide. The servers were friendly & warm. I would def return for dim sum, but I also want to come for dinner. The food is very good, and the prices are reasonable.
