Arrived to Han no Daidokoro in a party of four. First time for three of us so we were thrilled that there was happy hour going on. We are early eaters so 5pm dinner works well for us. Food delicious. Loved the smaller and less expensive happy hour dishes. Allowed us to sample so many things! The dol sot bibimbap was nice. The assorted appetizers gave nice variety. The only thing I would not recommend was the seafood pancake which was VERY small and unmemorable. My favorites being the Nikomi (a savory full bodied soup), the yukhae, and almost all of the cuts of beef for the grill! So mouthwatering delicious that we ordered a second round of the beef for grilling! The delicious food perfectly complimented by impeccable service. From the moment we walked in and were greeted to the final goodbye. The staff here made us feel like old friends. The ambience made us feel like we were dining by ourselves. We knew there were others behind us when entering restaurant but we didn't see them, at all. We didn't hear them either. Only when we stood up and walked through the main dining room did we realize the restaurant was completely full except one empty table! Thank you Han no Daidokoro for a most memorable meal..! Thank you dinner companions for even better company! Will I be back? Looking forward to the next time already.

This restaurant has a happy hour from 5-6 PM! There are really nice Korean-Japanese fusion dishes with a focus on grilled meats. The meats are exceptional quality though pricy. The bibimbap bowl was really tasty as was the kimchi trio. The restaurant has a nice quiet ambiance and the servers are very quick. Great for a party of 4!

Dined at Han No Daidokoro ward location for their premium wagyu. The service from our waiter was friendly and polite, although they didn't check in as often as we would have liked during the meal. As for the food, the wagyu quality was definitely there on some cuts a few pieces were excellent and literally melted in your mouth. That's always the highlight when you're going for wagyu. That said, the overall experience felt a little more like a regular BBQ spot than the premium experience I expected. It was good, but it felt fairly comparable to places like Hangan or Onkee Korea grill rather than something that really stood out as a Japanese premium bbq Still a solid place if you're craving wagyu BBQ, but I left feeling like it could have been just a little better overall for the price point.

My second time here and it was for my partner's birthday. We sprung for the A5 Miyazaki course dinner. Ordered extra washu rib eye and wow everything absolutely hit the mark. My favorite was the delicate beef sushi bite, did not expect something so incredibly decadent. The staff are above and beyond friendly. Most courses you sear yourself, but there are a couple they're meant to cook for you. The food was such high quality and so fresh. It is a treat of an experience for sure. Worth the money and hope to come back to celebrate something in the future. Mahalo to the team for making his birthday so special!

Best wagu beef, buttery, just melts!

Delicious, Delicious. Delicious! For those that value quality over quantity, who cares about eating the most delicious high quality food while watching their calorie intake, wants to have a satisfying meal with great service, and not worry about overeating, this is the place to be. The best barbecue meat I have ever tasted! The meat tasted like butter: melts in your mouth, super buttery, deliciously seasoned, 45 seconds each side, with the perfect dipping sauce, every bite is heaven. Reserving a table was easy. We got the $65 per person set lunch, the server told me that this is the best meat that they offer in this restaurant, the highest grade wagu beef from southern Japan that was only served to the Emperor. What A perfect way to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary. The happy hour lunch special cold beer went super well with this meal. We finished our meal with a cold Pho noodle bowl, and it was also equally delicious and satisfying. I was so full after the set lunch. Highly Delicious recommend it, definitely will visit again.

Absolutely delicious and amazing Wagyu! I did the $125/person Wagyu set course meal and it was totally worth the price for the quality of meat you get. This reminded me of Japan so much. The meat was SUPERB. I would highly highly recommend people try this place out. Service was also great. My favorite was... everything. the garlic rice stood out as a perfect side. And every single piece of meat was so tender flavorful and exactly what Japanese Wagyu is like.

We've been here one too many times and it never disappoints! Love how the quality of the food speaks for itself! Our ultimate favorite and go to is the top premium beef tongue, just Oishii!! The service is normally top tier but this last visit was meh, I'm not sure if it's because we're there often or what. We had the same server more than once and she wasn't as friendly this last visit. Menu is expensive, service should be better, don't you think? The food is a 10/10, going back again and again!

Got the $85 coursed set and it was amazing from start to finish. The kimchi was super fresh and crunchy, and every cut of meat was tender and packed with flavor. My favorite was the filet because it was soo tender. The wasabi was freshly ground, which made such a difference, and the garlic rice was addictive. I liked letting it crisp up in the stone pot until it got that perfect golden crunch. Service was friendly and attentive, and I really appreciated that they could pace the course around our schedule. Whether you're in for a relaxed dinner or something quicker, they've got you covered. I'd absolutely come back again.

This was hands down THE BEST beef for yakiniku that I've had outside of Japan - the last time I'd had meat of this caliber was at Jojoen in Ueno during May 2024. I had made reservations for my Dad and I for 5pm on a Wednesday evening for 2/18/2026 and we were one of the first diners there. I wanted to experience a good yakiniku place that wasn't either GyuKaku, Korean BBQ, or AYCE during the few days I was going to be visiting Honolulu and this place looked to be it. I'd also heard from my hair stylist a couple days before how she had heard really good things about this place, especially for lunch. The servers here were very nice and polite, they were patient and pleasant to speak to. The interior was nice in that we had our own booth and there was enough space so the next party wasn't right next to us. The $75 Washugyu course we decided on was fantastic! All the cuts of meat were equally high quality and each piece was so tender, juicy and just delightful. The washu nigiri was heavenly. All in all, it was more than enough food for the two of us. Even the salad and Korean seafood pancake were excellent. The ice cream was the only thing that could've been a bit better - parts of the mascarpone one that I got were hard and icy. My Dad got the matcha one and it was better. Prices are more reasonable for lunch and I'd come back again if it was for a special occasion, as the total with tax and tip for the $75 course was about $200. You do get what you pay for here, though, which is great service and quality food.

Had such an amazing experience here. Definitely a spot worth the hype. The quality of the wagyu was unreal, beautiful marbling, super tender, and literally melts in your mouth. Loved the variety of cuts they brought out, each one labeled and presented so nicely. You can really taste the difference in each piece. Cooking it fresh at the table made it even better, especially dipping it in the egg and sauces The presentation was also top tier, from the wooden box setup to the little details like the branded bone and flower garnish. Even the sides and fried rice were flavorful and well done, not just an afterthought. And ending with ice cream was the perfect finish. Service was attentive and helpful, walking us through the different cuts and how to enjoy them. Definitely on the pricier side, but 100% worth it for a special occasion or if you're craving high-quality wagyu. Would absolutely come back!

My favorite Japanese Yakiniku restaurant but the host is just not it....just saying! Straight rude. I'll still come back though cause the food is 10/10 and our server is the best!

Wait, Waikiki? . Ward happy hour: 5-6pm Waikiki happy hour: all day until Jan 25 . I appreciate the quality beef and loved everything! I prefer the Washu over Miyazaki premium cuts but my novice cooking skills might of botched the results. I left without the icky feeling of grease or smelling like a kitchen! Liver pâté- thic but not overwhelming, scoop her Nikomi- square-chunks of collagen in light broth Washu- tried a lot, fav is the beef tongue! Miyazaki- thick premium cuts + kimchee trio, potato salad Corn tea - fantastic, I'd buy a jug if I could . Originally planned to meet where hh is all day but I was absorbed in BTS world tour presales all day, and thus, auto-piloted my way to Ward. My friend went to their Waikiki venue...they r not equal. I offered to rush over to waikiki but she insisted I stay put since I had preemptively ordered thinking she was running late. . Did you know? Assorted beef tongue - is a menu item of different beef tongue cuts each with distinguishable tenderness. Only certain parts of beef tongue are used at kbbq (mid-section to back). The tip takes much too long to cook and is usually discarded or reserved for stew/soups. As shared by our kind n personable server (: . cheers

I took my partner here on a Sunday for his birthday. We were seated promptly after checking in for our reservation. We parked in the Ward Village parking lot that is right behind the restaurant. Our waitress was very friendly, I told her I was debating between getting the Mizayaki $150 course/pp for the both of us or ordering the Kaka'ako tasting menu of $65/pp (min 2 orders) and adding on the Chef's Taste Mizakaya. She said the Kaka'ako tasting menu is already a good amount of food. I thought that ordering in the ladder way would allow us to try more things while still experiencing the A5 Waygu, so we went with that. Everything came out promptly, the salad and kimchi was refreshing. The seared Washu Beef was a good start to the course but wasn't too memorable. My partner got the seaweed soup and I got the spicy soup. I would recommend the spicy soup if you like a little bit of spice, as it had almost the same ingredients as the seaweed egg drop soup, but either one was very enjoyable. The mixed entrails from the tasting menu wasn't very good in my opinion, all very chewy and hard to enjoy. The beef tongue and hanging tender for the washu beef was very good, I would recommend. The flank steak, bottom flap, and kalbi washu beef was also good but wasn't as tender was the tongue and hanging tender. On to the main event, the Miyazaki Wagyu chef's menu, the cuts were all so flavorful, fatty, and tender. I would rank: filet mignon, rib roll, chuck rib, sirloin, then liter meat. The liter meat and the sirloin was a bit too fatty for me. The chuck rib was on the verge of being too fatty, but it was thin so it didn't feel like overkill. They ended the meal with a nice cup of hot barely tea and gave us a complimentary cheesecake for my partner's birthday. The sparkler on-top was cute and a nice touch. Overall, I would really recommend this spot for any special occasion. If I was to come back, I definitely would rather get a mix of selective washu and waygu beef cuts to not be overwhelmed by the fattiness of the A5 wagyu.

To my surprise, on a Sunday evening after having dinner nearby at Maze, my wife and I walked over to Bar Leather Apron and we were able to get seated right away! If you're in the same boat as me and are unable to find a reservation for your upcoming visit, I would encourage you to stop by and try a walk-in. The first page of the menu lists a wide variety of whiskey based cocktails. Most -- if not all, of the cocktails are pre-fixed with BLA (Bar Leather Apron), and represent a collaboration with the named distillery. If you're fan of whiskey, you'll definitely have a difficult time picking only one. I ultimately ordered their "Take Warning" -- 2021 BLA Knob Creek BLA Single Barrel, Cynar, Carpano Antica, Mezcal, Bergamot Salt. Drinks here are not cheap -- averaging $20 to $25 per drink. Although my drink was very spirit forward, it still felt very well balanced. I appreciated the hint of smokiness from the mezcal that rounded out the end of a sip. Service here quick and friendly. We started our vacation with dinner at the Hideout, and upon entering you could immediately hear live music. We received a warm welcome, and brought over to our booth where our server Kai was quick to greet us. We ordered cocktails (I don't remember the name of mine. It's something spritz, and my husband tried the banana bread old fashioned) and we shared the appetizer platter (brussel sprouts with pork belly, kalua pork egg rolls, poke tacos, and edamame)to share. We also ordered the garlic shrimp dumplings. Everything was super tasty. Lots of other items on the menu that I want to try during another visit to the island.

I initially tried the bakery directly across the street at the International Marketplace, but they didn't open until 7am. I began to walk towards a distant Starbucks I found on Google and noticed an active escalator and signage pointing towards the open Hideout at the Laylow. Advertising local coffee, I immediately took the ride upstairs and was greeted by two young ladies full of smiles and Aloha spirit! Being summertime and hot (even at 6am) I ordered a large iced latte and decided to drink it on their large open lanai. I'm glad I did. The breezes up there were perfect and watching the daylight get brighter with local birds chirping and fluttering about made for a very nice wake-up! This became my go-to stop every morning of my visit! I only ordered breakfast once and kept it low-carb so I had cheesy eggs and Portuguese sausage. Perfect and hit the spot. If staying at the Laylow (Marriott product) or close by, I'd recommend this as your morning wake-up as well! Enjoy!

Drinks. That's what…read moreyou're here for isn't it? It is why you've searched for EP bar, looked over various reviews, and randomly found yourself reading thru the first few lines of this review. Well, welcome Dear Reader, and I hope what I'm about to share peaks your interest to visit EP Bar. I had my 2nd visit to EP Bar earlier this month with friends for some after dinner drinks. We did make a res, but there were some walk-ins while we there, so it's probably recommended but not necessary. We perused the menu, and our 1st round consisted of: Ringo Star Strawberry Fields Forever Pho Us By Us Hail Mary Any guesses on the drink I chose? It's related to the Beatles. If you guessed Ringo Star.....take another guess. The Strawberry Fields Forever was very refreshing. Recommended. My partner ordered the Hail Mary, which (sadly) wasn't to his liking, and he happily "helped" me finish my drink before ordering his own in the next round. I chose the Ringo Star as my next drink, and I'd say if you're a fan of Mr. Star and/or apples, this drink is right up your orchard. Recommended. SERVICE The service is friendly, mixed with a splash of polite, and served with patience and knowledge. BOTTOM LINE A great place for drinks. Casual ambiance/vibe and relaxed atmosphere. Recommended.

Fifteen minutes west of Waikiki, you'll find yourself in a completely different Hawaii…read more Honolulu's Chinatown feels worlds away from the beachfront resorts and postcard-perfect sunsets. The neighborhood is vibrant, gritty, and alive--a mix of Chinese, Southeast Asian, and Native Hawaiian influences layered over historic buildings, glowing neon signs, art galleries, and hidden cocktail dens. It reminded me a bit of New Orleans: worn facades with stories to tell, creative energy around every corner, and the sense that the best experiences are often tucked behind an unassuming door. Which makes it the perfect home for EP Bar. "EP" stands for Extend Play, a fitting name for a place built around music. Long before listening bars became fashionable in Los Angeles, New York, and London, there were the jazz kissa of Japan--small cafés where people gathered not to drink or dance, but to listen. Records spun through carefully tuned sound systems while patrons sat immersed in the music. The music wasn't background noise. It was the main event. Walking into EP Bar, you can feel traces of that tradition. The room is intimate and inviting. Reservations are highly recommended because the place fills up quickly on weekend nights. Once inside, the atmosphere hits a sweet spot. The music is loud enough to create a mood and provide privacy for conversation, yet never so overpowering that it dominates the room. Loud enough to muffle the secrets being shared between old friends. Loud enough to drown out the office gossip that somehow followed everyone from the coffee machine into happy hour. The soundtrack isn't just playing--it's setting the tone. As an Old Fashioned guy, my choice was easy. I ordered a Oaxaca OF, which swaps traditional whiskey for mezcal. Smoky, balanced, and memorable, it felt like the kind of drink that rewards slow sipping between tracks. Another member of our group went with the Pho Us By Us. To nobody's surprise except perhaps her own, it tasted a little salty. Considering the ingredients--Green Chile Vodka, Sake, Pho Spice, Lemon, and Soda--it was probably the most honest cocktail description I've ever seen. The drink tasted exactly like its name suggested. That's part of the fun here. The menu doesn't hide behind clever marketing. Drinks like Thai Me Down and Candy Rain practically dare you to order them. Not every note landed perfectly. Service was a little off-beat during our visit. But like any live performance, sometimes the rhythm isn't flawless. Thankfully, the vibes, decor, music, and overall experience more than carried the set. What I appreciated most was that EP Bar doesn't feel like a gimmick. It feels like a genuine continuation of a tradition that began decades ago in Japan's listening cafés, traveled across oceans, and found a home in Honolulu's Chinatown. It's a place where music matters, conversation flows, and the pace of the evening slows down just enough to appreciate both. The place slaps for what it is--and for what it isn't. In a world increasingly filled with distractions, EP Bar invites you to do something refreshingly simple: sit down, have a great drink, listen to great music, and be present. I'll definitely be back. After all, every good record deserves another spin, and I'm curious to see how the needle lands next time.
