Toasted House Focaccia + Arancini Siciliani

Made reservations online via OpenTable for a party of 2, on a Friday night at 7p. Located on the ground floor of Waikiki Beach Marriott with outdoor and indoor seating available. This evening, it was rather humid, thus we requested for an indoor seat. We waited along the side of the restaurant (bench waiting area) and got sat within 5 min of checking in to the host stand. Kaitlyn was our server and she was super friendly and accommodating. For some odd reason, the 2-top next to us had 3 different couples sit and then request for another seat, perhaps it was too tight of an area for them. Know that if you're ordering anything from a cart, whether that's the cheese wheel risotto or gelato (both table side service) you may want to check with your server before ordering as there are tight aisles and corners to which the team may not be able to reach your table. Overall the food was tasty, and the portions were reasonable. It's much more bustling at this location than that of Kahala and Beachwalk, it has a different type of vibe, if you know what I mean.

10 stars! Located next to the Marriott, they have indoor and outdoor seating. We had reservations and we were seated immediately. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. They put Italian love into every dish! The decor is like sitting in Italy. Fresh focaccia bread is served with dipping oil. What we ordered: *insalata caprese * Lasagna- homemade noodles * rigatoni cacio e pepe- prepared in large Parmesan wheel. * a bottle of Italian wine * complementary Mago gelato The food was bursting with flavor!! My pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente. Highly recommend a meal here.

Great-tasting food with complex flavors. For appetizers, we ordered the Arancini Siciliani, which had a deliciously cheesy, soft interior with a satisfying crunch on the outside, complemented by a flavorful sauce on the side. For our main courses, we had the Chef's Favorite Pizza and the Spaghetti al Ricci di Mare--both were excellent. The pizza featured a very thin crust, and the cheese had a bold, rich flavor. The spaghetti was equally impressive, with a creamy, delicious sauce. However, I do wish they had added a generous portion of uni on top, as that would have elevated the dish even more. The service was friendly, and the ambiance was comfortable, making for an overall enjoyable dining experience.

Awesome outdoor indoor pasta place in the heart of Waikiki, just feet from the beach! We tried many different pasta dishes, and calamari. All delicious and great to share. Fantastic service and very busy so it's a great atmosphere for any meal or date night!

Yum food, excellent service, pretty reasonable price! We were seated right away and had excellent service from all. Tables are close together and it is crowded and lively! Make a reservation! The restaurant is pretty busy. Drinks were good and not too strong. Food was great!! Pasta was al dente and tbh had similar flavors but were overall good. Uni pasta was weak on uni taste. My fave was the mushroom pasta!! We also shared a pizza that was interesting and good! The shrimp was small but still very tender. Carpaccio di Capesante: scallop sashimi starter was sooo yum. Highly recommend!!! I learned I really like sea asparagus LOLLLL Overall would come again for a break from local food!

    Spaghetti Alla Carbonara

Carbonara is one of my top favorite dishes of all time so when I saw this close by where I was staying, I had to check it out. I wasn't expecting the same quality or taste as when I was eating on the streets of Italy, but this was a pretty damn good plate of carbonara. The egg yolk split was really satisfying. The complimentary bread was better than average and the service here is top-tier. Definitely recommend getting a reservation as it is very packed with its close proximity to Waikiki beach.

Best authentic Italian restaurant on Oahu in my opinion! Their dishes taste just like Italy. I love that all their pastas come out perfectly al dente without having to ask them. We got the Bolognese and carbonara pasta and they were both to die for. They took me back to our trip to Rome. The carbonara especially was AMAZING. Like holy moly SO good, rich and creamy. I highly recommend getting the carbonara... it's super filling too-- my husband and I couldn't finish it. For appetizers we got the famous Arancino croquettes which are super crispy and yummy. Their argula prosciutto salad was yummy and tasty too. Service was great! Our waitress was quick and responsive and very nice. You do need reservations here or expect to wait at least 30 minutes... It's busy. The only bummer about the ambience is if you sit outside and they see you at a table right near the rope you were literally eating next to people walking by. I wish they had planters or something to make it feel more like a separated restaurant area.

We visited for my 21-year-old daughter's birthday. Everything was delicious, but the seafood pasta was the standout.

    Paccheri alle Vongole

We just beat the crowd (around 5:30) and were seated immediately, though by the time we left it looked there was quite a wait. Our body clocks were still on Mountain Time so that was fine but wouldn't have wanted to show up at a normal dinner hour. The wine list seems sparse for an Italian place but we enjoyed our glass nonetheless. We had the Insalata Caprese and it was really fresh. I had the Gnocchi alla Sorrentina and thought it was delicious. My lovely wife ate the Paccheri alle Vongole. She would have preferred smaller clams but that's a personal thing. She said the dish was great. Vegetarians know it can sometimes be difficult to search through a menu for things we can eat. A nice touch here, that I appreciated, is that although all the meat-free items are on the main menu, they offer a separate one with only vegetarian items to make life easier. ( I know, first-world problem). I thought that very considerate. And it was not a cheap throw away idea; it was just as nice as the main menu. Respect. We ate on the patio and though it was crowded we found it pleasant. It is next to a pretty busy street with nothing to block the noise, but there is a church across the street and perhaps that influenced the drivers to be more respectful, because it wasn't bad. Service was very nice; Chi took good care of us. The manager (or maybe owner) came by to check in and thank us for coming. When I said "Thanks for having us.", he actually looked touched and grateful. I did NOT like the that a photographer made the rounds trying to take and sell photos - but to be fair, when I said "No thanks" she smiled, said "Okay", and moved on. But I don't understand how this is still a thing when we all have cameras in our pockets at all times. Nice, light mango sorbet for dessert and we were on our way. Was it one of the best Italian meals I have ever eaten? Heck, no - my wife is from Foggia and we used to live in Chicago! But for a tasty , not expensive, almost-on-the-beach Italian meal, I will go back.

Spaghetti Ai Ricci Di Mare!! Uni!

I mean! Been busy eating to review but this is the casual cousin of other ones/ Kahala being my favorite. Much more casual, even the menu is different. But they have the staple. Uni pasta being one of them. You can sit inside or outside. I've sat in the rain outside and still had fun. Love their hamachi, vongole. And of course, pasta!!

If you are looking for a great Italian restaurant in the area, this is definitely the place to go. We have visited here 2-3 times with our family and have always had a wonderful experience. The service is excellent, fast, and friendly, and the food is absolutely delicious. Every dish we tried was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. We highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely come back again!

Food was excellent! So much flavor. Definitely recommend. Service was incredible polite, positive, and amazing hosts. However, service was slow. Only because they were very busy!

Tagliatelle alla Carbonara DD with tender beef cheeks

Impeccable service, never pushy and always accommodating. We tried the lobster bisque and wanted to share, and they went ahead and split served in two bowls. How nice! The calamari and scallop sashimi were delicious, as were all the pastas and pizzas we tried, including the 4 cheese which comes with honey, and the owner's pizza. A little slice of heaven with views of the sunset if you dine on the patio.

To my surprise, on a Sunday evening after having dinner nearby at Maze, my wife and I walked over to Bar Leather Apron and we were able to get seated right away! In fact, around 7:30 p.m. when we stopped by, there was actually a ton of seating available in the bar. Who would've guessed. If you're in the same boat as me and are unable to find a reservation for your upcoming visit, I would encourage you to stop by and try a walk-in. The first page of the menu lists a wide variety of whiskey based cocktails. Most -- if not all, of the cocktails are pre-fixed with BLA (Bar Leather Apron), and represent a collaboration with the named distillery. If you're fan of whiskey, you'll definitely have a difficult time picking only one. I ultimately ordered their "Take Warning" -- 2021 BLA Knob Creek BLA Single Barrel, Cynar, Carpano Antica, Mezcal, Bergamot Salt. Drinks here are not cheap -- averaging $20 to $25 per drink. Although my drink was very spirit forward, it still felt very well balanced. I appreciated the hint of smokiness from the mezcal that rounded out the end of a sip. Service here quick and friendly. When we received the check, a cute small chocolate snack was brought over as well, borrowed from the menu at Maze. Overall, I can see why Bar Leather Apron has earned so many accolades in its field. Definitely worth a stop by if you enjoy the art of mixology.

The server didn't come for about 10 minutes where I asked to be moved. I was moved to a covered table and we got a new server where we promptly ordered. My sons kids meal came out and his tenders were actually delicious as well as the fries . My food took over 20 minutes to arrive only after I made eye contact with my server and he rushed to the back to grab my food, I'm guessing he had forgotten about it because my short rib arrived cold. Like literally cold to the touch. The mashed potatoes were warm and those were great as well as the veggies . I didn't complain because nobody ever came back to check us on or offer a refill or anything . To pay was a hassle also as they only had 1 server helping and he was tied up with a big table for over 20 minutes that was arguing how to split up a bill. I eventually flagged down a bartender and she went and grabbed my original server from the back. The whole night things kept going wrong . That's a shame because it has the potential to be very good. When you start with a cocktail concept that is deliberately kept low key with no signage, and a drink menu that rotates and evolves, you have a pretty good floor to start. Having a cozy place to settle in and being able to enjoy food from Chris Kajioka should give 430 Pkwy a high ceiling. If you like an espresso martini try something a little different. Their Espressing My Love batches espresso with Averna, black walnut bitters, and a unique monkeypod syrup. Unfortunately, there is no espresso machine so you cannot get fresh drawn espresso to make a Carajillo the way Cafe Miro use to. The ahi brioche is a carry over from all Chris Kajioka places. The grilled cheese is excellent. Hotdogs are kicked up - it used to be a black truffled miso chicken sausage but the current one is a little different. The problem is the food preparation totally undermines the whole place. Without a separate kitchen you have frying being done just a few feet away from where cocktails are made. If you sit on the right side of the bar you will quickly understand why this doesn't work. I would come here more frequently if i didn't have to smell like cooking oil afterwards. Fix that problem and this place would rock.

Apparently you're normally supposed to put a coin in to open the secret door, but it's broken right now, so the whole vending machine just swings right open. Slightly less secret, but still very cool. Inside is where this place really shines. Moody lighting, a giant orange tree in the middle of the room, Japanese hip hop playing in the background (I want to steal this entire playlist), and extremely cool and friendly servers and bartenders. I've been to a few other attempted "speakeasies" in Honolulu, but most are basically just dark bars with a fun door or code word. Wild Orange actually has the VIBES to make the whole concept work. Definitely worth coming just to hang out and chill. They have a full bar and an extensive specialty cocktail menu. Tried the Purple Dragon, made with ube liqueur and coconut cream. Very sweet--a little TOO sweet for my taste--but tasty and pretty. Probably should have listened to the menu and kept it as a shot, but I wanted something I could sip on for a while and chill. The Umeshu Highball was also very pretty and tasty. My friend who works as a sake distributor was impressed with their selection of good sake, so of course we had to order a bottle. Our server brought it out in an ice bucket, kept it off to the side, and completely served it for us throughout. Very classy. The food menu is fun and creative, but unfortunately not really for me because it's entirely vegan. Most times, but ESPECIALLY when I'm drinking, I want MEAT. Tried the Wild Musubi, a vegan Spam musubi. I'm not actually sure what the "meat" was. Possibly fried tofu? Whatever it was, it was definitely a passable alternative, but would have been 100x better if it were just plain old Spam. It also falls victim to what I find is a common problem with vegan attempts at Japanese food: anything teriyaki ends up being way too treacly sweet without actual meat or seafood to ground it in reality. Also tried the Char Siu Tofu Bao, fried tofu in a red Chinese-style char siu sauce on fluffy white buns. Again, fun and certainly not bad, but these would be 1000x better with actual pork. If Wild Orange had this exact same creative food menu but carnivore edition, this place would probably be 7/5 stars for me. That being said, I know being vegan will actually be a huge draw for some people, and I appreciate that the food is creative rather than just the usual sad vegan afterthoughts. Parking is pretty easy by Honolulu standards. It's inside Hawaiian Brian's, so there's a large shared parking lot. That being said, you might still have trouble finding a spot during peak gym hours since you're competing with all the 24 Hour Fitness customers. All in all, I LOVE this place. Definitely a fun stop--first, middle, only, or nightcap--on a chill night out. Will absolutely be adding Wild Orange into the rotation of places to bring out-of-town guests when I want to impress them with something cool and different. The vegan menu probably means it'll be a couple-times-a-year place for me rather than a regular haunt. But for drinks, service, atmosphere, and pure VIBES? 20/10.
