I really appreciated the fact that he was so attentive since I was dining alone. The restaurant was busy but it wasn't too loud and it was the perfect setting to get a little work done and enjoy a meal. I got the mai tai, it's discounted on the happy hour and it's literally the best one on the island. They've been my go to for years and it's amazing every time. The fries are also a must! Moku Kitchen's food is usually quite good, I LOVE their gyozas. The sauce is amazing and my entire table loved it so much we got two. But, the pasta (fettuccine bolognese) was disappointing. It sounded really good from the description, but it had this kind of stale like taste? There was not really a punch of flavor or something that made me want to continue eating it. We arrived here around noon ish on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy. Was able to get seated immediately. The staff here was very friendly and on top of service. I ordered the Birria Pizza which was that days Pizza Special and my friend ordered the Banh Mi Fish Sandwich. Didn't take too long to receive our food. The Birria pizza was delicious and very flavorful, but I think it would be even better if it came with consome to dip the pizza in. My friend enjoyed his Banh Mi, but did state that the bread was too soft and got soggy so he couldn't eat it with his hands like you normally would. Don't let the label fool you. Just let the soup fill you. It's a bowl of comfort with hints of sweet coconut and the brightness of lemongrass. So ONO! Also, you can get truffle Parmesan fries sans Parmesan and it's just as delish. Szechuan green beans are always fire! I thought this review might be helpful for anyone else who has restrictions. I was looking forward to trying this place. It's been on my list for a while and I like their other two restaurants, Merriman's and Monkeypod. I wanted to order the special pizza of the day, but they told me they were out of the pesto sauce. It sounded a bit disappointing to sub for another sauce so I opted for the mushroom and truffle oil pizza. The ingredients sounded bare, so I added bacon to add some more flavor. We also order the smash burger. The plating of the burger was a bit odd. It comes with fries but they come in a bag that's only half full so it looks like someone ate some of gave us the rest. I'm sure that's not the case, but the presentation seemed didn't look appealing. I wasn't exactly full after the meal but with the limited menu choices, nothing was really screaming at me to try. Overall, the taste of the pizza was overpowered by the truffle oil and the mushrooms were underwhelming; the bacon nearly saved the pizza and added a much needed depth of taste and texture. The smash burger was very good and I would order it again. Unfortunately, the service was not exactly inviting either. The hostesses and some of the other wait staff seemed annoyed that I asked to move tables since it was raining. After that encounter they were passive and short with us; except our main server, she was great. The fries were another disappointment. Unevenly cooked, with several soggy or overly dark bitter pieces, and they tasted like they had been sitting around for a while. If you're going to lean into bar food, at least get the fries right. The Poke Taco didn't leave much of an impression. The Baja Fish Tacos fared better, thanks to a flavorful chipotle crema. Surprisingly, the Grilled Vegetable Plate was the best dish of the night. Well seasoned and nicely grilled. Overall, the menu leans more toward bar food than a full dining experience.
