No notes, this was amazing. Meaty and cheesy, perfectly satisfied my umami and cheesy craving. * Filet Katsu Curry: My friend got this, it looked very good and he said he really likes it so I assume it is a solid item as well. I didn't get the chance to try it. * Pasta Salmon with Cream Sauce: 8/10 I got this because I wanted to give their pastas another shot after not really liking their uni pasta... this was good. Personally wouldn't get it again though. I feel like they could cut down on the volume of noodles and possibly increase the amount of cream/sauce and even the salmon. It was very smokey and dim inside. We waited a bit for someone to come and take our order. My party ordered a cocktail that was $8, wine, and a beer and then 3 yaki negitoro dons. I liked my Hello Kitty cocktail because it tasted fruity and the cranberry juice paired well. Our drinks came quick, but we waited about 10-15 minutes for one of our food items to come. We waited for the other 2 items but it never came. Our waiter thought we were sharing one don between the 3 of us but comped our drinks and gave us free shots of sake. At the end of the night, they discounted our check and gave us the other 2 bowls in takeout boxes. It is extremely loud in here and hard to have a conversation. It felt stuffy because of how smokey and packed in it was. Bathroom is also very weird and deceiving. It looks like they have multiple stalls but they only have one stall. Always recommend to get reservation before going there. The food was good as usual. We double ordered all of the happy hour dishes and also ordered some regular menu food. One of my favorite is the kabocha (pumpkin) and bacon. I also liked their omurice. The quesadillas turned out to be pretty good too. That was a first time try for most of us. I had an interesting experience a Chez Kenzo and was initially conflicted about whether or not to write a review. I was encouraged to write a review so here we are. My wife had heard from friends about Chez Kenzo and without looking up this establishment in advance, we went. For reference, we are coming all the way from Ho'opili, so it's quite a drive, especially considering we were planning to arrive as close to 5pm as possible. Parking Chez Kenzo customers receive free parking. Please refer to the image of their signage for instructions. Initial Impressions It's a rather local, down-to-earth type of bar & grill. You'll find all types of locals here. Upon arriving, I attempted to "check-in" for the wait list and that's when I was thrown off by one of the waitresses. At first, she started off by saying that there were no seats. Which was fine, but I was shocked when she didn't take my name down. It was difficult to proceed and unclear what needed to be done. It wasn't until I came back in to inquire, did they state they would write me in, but then didn't proceed to get my name to notate. She pointed to a man, who I assume was the owner, and said he took mental note. Initially, it did spark a little frustration and elevated blood pressure, which made me a little aggressive, but I let it go. I went back out to wait since my spouse really want to give this place a try. Normally I would have left. Inside can get REALLY noisy. People are enthusiastic about being together, and this restaurant seems to really be the place for that. To add to that, the food is AMAZING. An incredibly flavorful mix of Asian and local styles served by attentive, friendly, professional staff. Portion sizes are generous. And I just cannot say enough about how delicious the food is - and reasonably priced! Parking is pretty plentiful directly adjacent to the restaurant. Went as a party of 3 on a Sunday night at 8pm. The place was busy but we were able to be seated right away. They have larger sized tables to fit larger parties of 6+. Although if you're intending on having a dinner with lots of conversation, I wouldn't recommend this place because the music they play is very loud. We found ourselves shouting at each other and barely hearing each other still. It's more of a bar scene but with restaurant food. The service was great with water refills but we had to flag someone down for everything else... like for the check, for take out boxes, for napkins, etc. although, the staff was very friendly! The food itself was good. Everything seemed pretty unique and the flavor was definitely there. I'd say it's food that I'd come back to eat again sometime! Had to make a stop here as it's on the Yelp Top 100. Unfortunately, it is the worst restaurant I've tried on the Top 100. Firstly, staff gave my guy and I a dirty look when we came in, which made us decide to just order our food to go right away. The food reads fancier than the vibes and atmosphere of the place itself, so it didn't mesh for me. We got the Sizzling Pork Katsu Omurice. Unfortunately, they FORGOT the katsu. First indication of inadequate service - we entered and they did have a big birthday party going on, but we had to go deep into the place and seek out a staff member in order to get seated (no one/designated place to be helped by the door). She quickly wiped off a table and got us seated. Happy hour is the best I've found on the island. The prices are insanely cheap, for drinks but also for a full-page of discounted appetizers. $2.99 for a draft Kirin?? Sign me up. We ordered both food and drinks and quickly got our drinks, but we had to check in on the food multiple times. I honestly think our order got lost and they had to put it in again. We had our second round of beer before we got our food order. I got the agedashi tofu and my husband got the four-cheese pizza. Both were great. At the end of the day, the reason I am giving 5 stars even though the service deserves it to be docking of a star is because they were incredibly busy and there was a very chaotic environment, so I give grace that things get lost in that environment. Came with my fiance on a late sunday night. The store was full but no wait. Parking is not bad because you can get it validated. The interior of the store was kinda dark so it was hard to see. What a great happy hour! But parking is a bit complicated...first you scan QR code, pay with credit card then inside the restaurant, you scan another QR code to get the free parking. It works though! Next the food was delicious and service great. The inside was so cold we opted to eat outside. It was great and service was still good! Had to try so many dishes. Favorites were the sizzling omurice, pork kakuni, orushi udon, fish tepura, fried tofu, pumpkin & bacon sautéed in garlic and yaki nigitoro dan. Service has gone downhill. Attention was only given to friends of the waiting staff. Wrong orders. Long wait time particularly on the servers' behalf. Not sure if this is normal, but a server was taking a shot of something with one of the parties they were serving. Not sure what the shot was though. Not coming back here. We are no longer regulars at Chez. Food was not the best either. read more
