Had been excited to try this place for the first time. The Brussels sprouts were the highlight of our meal. The caprese was also pretty good, light and fresh. The krab and shrimp roll was pretty disappointing. Didn't catch that it was "krab" we like imitation crab mixed into things but it was just big chunks of the imitation crab with a few shrimp and some celery. We got lemon cheesecake for dessert that was... unlike any lemon cheesecake either of us have ever had. The crust was different but it was good. The filling was thick, had a very different texture, and didn't taste much like lemon. It wasn't necessarily bad but if you're expecting a lemon cheesecake that wasn't the usual kine. Really enjoyed it. Went on a Sunday so it was breakfast but loved it Duck fat fries are a must. Next time i'd go without the cheese but it was light so totally doable. Visited Mana + Pua for a birthday celebration for my birthday. Congenitally located on the second floor of SALT located in Kakaako. What stood out to me was the atmosphere, decorations, and the vibe of the place. It gave a great outdoor chill hangout mood with great food. I ended up having the Pappardelle Bolognese which was beautifully plated. It tasted great, I just wish I could have more! I wish the service was a little more attentive as we had to ask for water multiple times. Dined here a few times and came for drinks. The outdoor atmosphere is beautiful and inviting but it gets a little hot during lunchtime since there's no AC you are at the mercy of tradewinds. They have a full bar, expect the 18$/cocktail range. We recently had the Caesar salad with seared ahi, smoked fish spread and Pappardelle Bolognese and crab and shrimp sandwich. I think my favorite was the Bolognese the pasta was perfectly cooked and flavor was delicious with a little kick. The service was excellent and I did appreciate that the server let us know that the crab in the crab and shrimp sandwich was imitation crab and not fresh. The world food tour duo stopped in at Mana + Pua on the second floor of SALT. It's a very open space, like a covered lanai. We arrived a little early and, being the first diners of the evening, had our choice of tables. We chose a table for two along the rail, nearest the bar. We were overlooking Vein and The Boiling Crab. We felt like cocktails instead of a bottle of wine. We wanted gin & tonics, but I didn't see our preferred gins. They had two Mexican gins from Condesa, so I asked for one made with the Condesa London Extra Dry ($20) and another with Tanqueray ($20). The Mexican gin was nice .... A new gin to add to my home bar. We started with the Duck Fat Frites ($14) and the Antipasti Kau Kau Board ($50). The fries were sprinkled with dill, which is kind of weird (to me, who doesn't like dill). The antipasti board was a work of art and was enough for four people. A large board was covered with five pieces of sourdough toast, a sweetish red pepper dip, slices of zucchini, wedges of gold and red beets, cherry tomatoes, green and black olives, prosciutto, salami, pieces of red onion and carrots, and wedges of kabocha with black skin. We boxed the leftovers and ordered our entrees. We ordered the Pappardelle Bolognese ($30), Mushroom Ricotta Ravioli ($30), and Fire-Kissed Brussels ($10). The ravioli and blistered cherry tomatoes sat in a portobello cream sauce ... It was fine but I wished for a bit more mushroom flavor. The pappardelle were excellent, if a bit spicy. There was a chili crunch which added zing to the dish. The brussels sprouts was fine; we thought balsamic would have added to the overall flavoring. The restaurant wasn't very busy and service was leisurely. We saw empty tables at many venues. My fellow foodie was at SALT the night before and she said every place was packed. I think Mana + Pua is fine but the format is more suited for those looking for drinks and small plates versus those of us looking for more entrée options. Rating: 4. read more

The food was outstanding! I have been eyeing out their Happy Hour Menu for quite some time because of Instagram so I kinda had high hopes and let me tell you they did not disappoint. The SKORCHED TAKO ($15) was my favorite, the outside had a little bit crunchy bits when bite into it while the meat inside was nice and tender. I loved the sauce, it had just the right amount of heat and kick to it that worked perfectly without overpowering it. The CAESAR SALAD ($8) was awesome! Just the right size, perfect to satisfy and enjoy while leaving you with enough room to try other bar bites on the menu. The service was outstanding! I knew that it wouldn't be a typical service and that at times I knew I would have to wait because there was a huge event going on at the same time but I wanted to eat here anyway (that's how good they were). Sunday Brunch in Kaka'ako, Honolulu, Hawai'i... My niece is open-minded about where to eat and let me select our next dining adventure. I told her that I've been to Mana + Pua in Haleiwa, but not Mana + Pua at SALT. Since metered street parking is free on Sundays, I suggested that we go to this new location. She agreed. Located on the upper level of SALT, Mana + Pua is across from Pitch Sports Bar. The restroom is downstairs, so plan accordingly and get the code for the door from the staff. Note that this is an outdoor dining spot with no air-conditioning. We saw a bird hopping around; a fly passing by; ceiling fans that weren't effective; and our empty water bottle. The water was room temperature anyway. Shucks. Service was alright. When I was asked how I wanted my egg done, I replied, "Hard boiled", and it threw our server off. She wasn't sure if it could be done. Eventually, my salad arrived with a sliced hard boiled egg... perfect! There was even a tiny, crunchy piece of egg shell... LOL! Very authentic! The croissant platter was beautiful! The croissants were on the heavy side. We enjoyed the chocolate ganache, strawberry jam, sea salt whipped butter, and fresh fruits that were included. The breeze blew the powdered sugar across the table... haha! My Anahulu Salad was wonderful with pesto, Arugula, tomato jam, croutons, and pecrino. I really appreciated the sliced hard boiled egg! This is one of those eateries that is perfect for when you want really good food in an atmosphere of casual elegance . A place that is equally suitable for a pau hana with friends or a nice business lunch with clients. Another winna!! Beautiful crunchy crust that's not oily with just the right amount of house made tartare sauce on a fresh brioche bun. One of the lightest fried sandwiches I've had. We stopped by Mana+Pua for the Yelp Salt event and ended up really enjoying the space -- it's got a romantic, open-air lounge vibe with a relaxing atmosphere. That said, it does get hot, so I'd recommend going after 5pm when it starts to cool down. There's no air conditioning, so definitely dress casually and comfortably (but still nice -- it's that kind of spot). During the event, things got a bit rowdy -- lots of loud cheering and shouting across the bar. Totally fine since everyone was having fun, but it definitely changed the romantic vibe. I was a little bummed to see not many people tipping, especially at a free event where the staff was hustling. They had one sample of the crab won tons and a mezcal cocktail which was good. My husand and I have eaten here before, separate from the Yelp event . We ordered a few cocktails and split the Moules Pommes Frites, which I loved. I'm a fan of heavier sauces and creamy dishes, so it hit all the right notes for me. My husband thought it was just okay -- a little too saucy for his taste. He also got the burger, which was good but a bit awkward to eat on the smaller tables. Thanks for being part of the fun Yelp event! We were excited to try the margarita and poke nachos (as the hostess and one of the bartenders described to us). Unfortunately, like others, we ended up walking out after waiting a very long time without receiving either a drink or food. We watched as 4 rounds of the "poke nachos" were served, which looked like a chip with something on top, to one side of the bar and then to new patrons who were still waiting for seats. Then we watched as new batches of the margaritas were made and given out to random people. There was no system; would have been easier to simply pass out items in a line as other places did. But I did rate them 3 stars because the hostess and one server who we did interact with were very nice and the atmosphere of the restaurant seemed like a lovely place to dine for a normal dinner. read more

Ok, not gonna lie, the lady at the front was quite rude. I get it, I was on the phone, in line, sweating my face off at the event. But I wasn't holding the line or anything, I had everything at the ready. I think that left a bad taste in my mouth, honestly. Enough to make me just go leave. BUT, I did want to review the food and drink. I got the hibiscus mango mezcal and it was pretty solid. I definitely got the smoke and the mango in the drink which was pretty tasty. They served crab and shrimp nachos with wonton that they make as you "order", which I think is pretty ballsy for having hundreds of yelpers descending on you. I'm pretty glad I decided this would be my last stop because it did take some time. While waiting for my food, I took in my surroundings and it's nice, with rattan-looking furniture dotting the dining room and a generous wrap-around bar where we got seated. It gave more of a "sports bar" atmosphere with a restaurant portion, almost as an afterthought. It was quite loud, but hey, it was a pretty busy event so it wasn't all too surprising. Finally got the wonton poke and it was pretty good. I like how light the wonton was, and the crab and shrimp had a nice spice to it. I will say the rest of the servers were so nice and welcoming so I'm glad I gave it a shot. But goes to show how one bad experience can really ruin otherwise good things for you. I've only been to this one twice and it was for brunch. Honestly, I really enjoy the food here. They have a simple menu but I like that because I'm an indecisive person lol. I actually recently came here to celebrate my birthday because I love that it has open air and it's aesthetic. Plus it is has a bigger table centered in the middle which is perfect for birthday celebrations. What we ordered: Lobster Waffles - this is a savory dish with a crispy fried lobster, sweet corn compound butter and bourbon maple syrup! Not cheap though.. $42! Grilled Vegetable Board - I loved this! It had an assortment of seasonal grilled veggies. Great way to get some veggies in. Steak & Eggs - This was pretty generous piece of rib eye served with fluffy eggs. So good! Duck Fat Fries - a must! Strawberry and Miso French Toast - if you want something sweet, this was really good to have among the other savory dishes. The prices are little high here but I think the food quality is good. My family and I enjoyed everything. Their coffee was also really good. They serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well. Booked a reservation online about a month ago (reservations only open online 1 month prior). Located on the 2nd floor of Salt, right above 7Gradi Gelato. Ample parking inside of the parking garage nearby. When we arrived, on a Friday evening, it was a pretty windy day. "Outdoor open air seating" or bar seating are your two options, curious to know what happens if/when it rains? It looks like the shutters above close up, but how quickly and do they leak? Nevertheless this place is a nice vibe on a nice day! The server was very accommodating. Didn't catch her name, but she was cutesy, punk-rock in demeanor, but very kind and went along with our quirky antics. She was very knowledgeable about the menu, made suggestions and when we told her to surprise us and choose what she likes and serve that to us, she did just that. As for the food, it's a very interesting mix of items. The Korean BBQ flatbread was very crispy, and a little too dry for my liking (the meat and toppings). The duck fat fries were decent, though we were anticipating the mussel one when we placed the order. The server was kind enough to bring us out a side of the sauce that came with the mussel fries, so that we could try that. The smoked tako was huge in size, and was served on a hummus like spread on the bottom, which kind of threw off the textures and flavor profiles. I would've personally like the tako as is, without the hummus like spread on the bottom. Perhaps with a side of pickled veg to cut the smokiness and salted seasoning of the tako? As for the smoked fish dip, this was probably my fave item of the night. The bread was toasted, buttery and just the right size for the spread. Happy hour is available on weekdays from 3p-6p to which the cocktails and food are at a slightly discounted price. Being a fan of Mana + Pua Haleiwa, I was eager to check out their new location at SALT at Our Kakaao. Mana + Pua Salt is located on the second floor with an open air dining room and the cutest vibes that are perfect for your Sunday brunch crew. We started off with duck fat fries and guava mimosas, but the cocktail menu looked stellar. Most of the group opted for Okinawan Sweet Potato Hash with red onion, sweet bell peppers, garlic, rosemary and local arugula topped with soft scrambled eggs. It was a hearty entree. I had the Brekky Sammy - served in a pan de sal with pork belly, sage, sausage, soufflé egg, white cheddar, and maple syrup. It satisfied my sweet-salty craving. Overall, I liked the ambience and I thought the food was reasonably priced. Next time, I would want to try a different brunch item like the Strawberry Miso French Toast or Ahi Katsu Sandwich, which was the manager's favorite and recommendation. This was my second visit to Mana + Pua's new location in SALT and, while I enjoyed both experiences, I can't help but remember how much I loved what they had going on as a smaller "mom and pop" type feel on the North Shore. The open air dining and bar space is designed beautifully (why are there not more open air dining spaces on island?) and the locally sourced menu is mouthwatering. Their prices certainly reflect their new location and business model, making it a place that I'll need to reserve for special occasions. On this second visit, we enjoyed the caprase salad, served with house made focaccia and pesto - the focaccia is ridiculously delicious. We also ordered two pasta dishes: the gnocchi in an Ube cream sauce and ricotta ravioli in a mushroom cream sauce. Both were very good and filling and the leftover made for a great lunch the next day. The service seems to be pooled but we enjoyed chatting with those who stopped by our table, including owner Ashley. Looking to try a new (to us) restaurant we decided to visit Mana + Pua in Salt on Saturday evening. Located on the second floor of complex this restaurant was impressed us on our first visit. The Great: We went with the apps on this visit, Grilled Prawns, Duck Fat Frites, and the Salt Platter which is their take on a charcuterie board. Each dish was plated well and delicious. The fries were crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. The prawns were grilled perfectly with 5 large pieces. The Salt Platter was one of the best charcuterie boards we've enjoyed on island. The Good: Service was solid through out the evening. Checked on our table frequently to refill water and check on how we were enjoying our evening. The Okay: While the food was good one of my pet peeves is if paying $15 for glass of red wine, I would like to be served at the appropriate temperature. I know, first world problems right? But room temperature for reds is NOT 78 degrees, way too warm but I managed to finish it down to the last drop. Would have been nice if it was kept at 60 degrees. Food: Clam Chowder (coconut clam stock, clams, coconut flakes, toast breadcrumbs) - not the clam chowder I was expecting. Literally the clam was still on the shell which I don't have problem with that but kind'a confusing IMO. Anyhow, t'was good, savory & tasty. T'was spicy which I love as it has a nice kick to it. Wong's Fresh Catch of the Day (opehu) - t'was tasty. It comes with long beans, grilled sliced pear & radish sprouts. Seasoned well and the fish served was cooked a little bit on the dry side. It was a small serve and kind'a on a steep price. Caesar, add Pork Belly - first of all the pork belly has a nice smokey flavor on it and was my favorite taste at a time. Every bite was so delightful. The salad on the other hand was not that good. The dressing is so off thank goodness the pork belly was on the side. It made the caesar salad taste better. Hibiscus Iced Tea - refreshing and the tart flavor is pretty good. A bit bland but I love it and really enjoyed this drink. Overall t'was a decent lunch but not when you are really hungry. Our food came in after more than 40mins. Yes, the service is too slow and if you are really hungry better go somewhere else where service is faster and food portion is bigger. Also I love the open space dining area. Trade-wind can be a bit harsh so be prepared to eat your hair if not tied. Lol. Our server Alisa was so nice and friendly. She makes sure that we enjoyed the food. I love her customer service and definitely satisfied. Should I come back? I'll pass this one. Price is too high for me and food is just okay. Great place for happy hour! Drinks are delicious and strong, a little pricy. I recommend grabbing a drink or two here then hitting the happy hour sushi bar at pitch across the way. read more

We loved it!!! Super nice space in Salt Kakaako. We really enjoyed the open air concept the only thing is I wish they had better signage? If I didn't look them up I would have never known they were there. The Service was very quick and friendly. They have an extensive wine list which we loved. Cocktails list is nice too! The food however was such a surprise and very good. The detail that went into the presentation was so nice. We went for dinner and I know they are known for brunch so we will have to try it next time! read more
