There's nothing more I enjoy than to hangout with my besties and as I secretly had my eye on Mezzo and Italian Restaurant and bar which is located on the lower level of Market City Shopping Center can be almost missed as the entrance is quite simple with a neon sign and not much more though the simplicity does end there. Walking in I do love the slight dimly lit vibe as it gives me the feeling of relaxation and escape though it's not dark but just a calmness as we were taken to our table the staff is very nice and welcoming. Their menu offerings as I enjoyed a unique twist like Crostini Al Porcini which is a crostini topped with mozzarella and mushrooms was a fresh bite as some of the arugula that is topped off gave it a nice bite. The Rib Eye steak which I still dream about which we asked to be sliced for us was done perfectly and the Demi sauce was very delicate yet so flavorful and what a hearty bite along with our Caesar salad a classic that you just can't go wrong. I've also had the Puttanesca which was delicious as the linguine cooked just right scooped up all the sauce and yes this was two different nights but enjoyed just a wonderfully as I'm so grateful to have thoughtful friends I'm so thankful for, thank you Terry K and Nadine C as Mezzo was a wonderful place to escape. This is a cute spot for a date night or a cozy dinner where you can chat and not feel rushed or have a hard time getting a reservation. The service is awesome- very warm and friendly and the right amount of attentiveness. For a wine bar their wine list is not very impressive BUT it's also not outrageously priced which is appreciated in this day and age of other places charging almost $20 for a 3oz pour of mid-grade wine. Their charcuterie plate is a really generous sized plate of meats (salami and prosciutto, both good quality) and cheese (gouda, Parmesan and brie) and some fruit, olives and bread. Their bruschetta is very garlicky which I loved and the bread is buttered and toasted. I've tried 2 of their pastas at this point (once was takeout) and neither really impressed me so next time I'm going to order a meat dish and see how it goes. Their shrimp scampi alfredo mushroom pasta was not overly flavorful. The cream sauce was watery and I don't like button mushrooms when they are waterlogged. Pasta was overcooked. This review is long overdue. My bestie and I have been coming to Mezzo Bistro since its predecessor occupied the space. We have shared dozens of bottles of wine and plates of food while 'catching up' in this favorite and familiar spot. We've never left feeling disappointed. Mezzo is like our second home. And that's how it feels, like home. It's a come-as-you-are, don't-have-to-act kind of place. At the bar or at the tables, all the clientele seem comfortable and relaxed. There's nothing pretentious about the vibe. But, whether you're grabbing a bite on the way home, stopping for a quick cocktail (or two), or celebrating an occasion, Mezzo always feels special. They create a happy-you-came and sad-to-see-you-go atmosphere. Since it's usually a Pau Hana date, the bestie and I get parking no problem. We usually have reservations but even when we don't they welcome us quickly and warmly. They have a great selection of wines with affordable prices. They have a cool cocktail menu, too. I stopped here with my other bestie just to grab a cocktail at the bar before dinner reservations at another restaurant. Was quite pleased with my Prosecco aperitif. Food is well-prepared and the menu has a nice range. Vegetarians, pescatarians, and meat lovers can all find something to enjoy. We've enjoyed everything from just pupus to a full dinner, to splitting a salad and pasta. Mezzo is not trendy or fancy but it's not trying to be. It's a place you can savor with special friends, friends who are like Ohana, friends like my bestie who's been my ride or die for more than three decades. It's a place to share wine and food. I've had people tell me for years to try mezzo, since they've reopened the space. My family of 6 ventured to the market city shopping center to spend Mother's Day dinner in this cozy wine bar and enjoyed fabulous live music, affordable Cocktails, and good vibes without all the frills. Highly recommend their tapas style apps, including the mushroom crustini and shrimp. Every entree from the lamb chops to seafood medley were well cooked and came out of the kitchen hot. The service was attentive but relaxed considering it was a busy night, and the clientele felt local, which is always a plus. The space itself is small so I'm not sure how crowded it gets on a non holiday weekend, but we were able to make reservations two weeks out without difficulty! read more

We ordered the Mezzo Board ,which consisted of salami, prosciutto,olives and cheese. Also ordered the Crispy Pork Belly and an order of Escargot. All three appetizers were winners. For my entree, I had the Lamb Chops. My chops came out done. I ordered it medium rare. Still it was tender and flavorful. The demiglaz fell short. I prefer the lamb chops from Hys Steak House. This is my aunts favorite place for appetizers. Our favorite is the escargot, reminds us of the original Byron's Restaurant at Ala Moana Center. We order escargot and poke and crispy pork belly. Food is tasty and consistent. Poké on this visit was slightly bland, we sent back and they corrected the seasoning and it was perfect. My mom and aunt needed additional bread for the escargot and the waiter brought them more without additional fees. The only downside is it is a bar and it's loud and noisy. Our first time here and it did not disappoint! Hidden a bit inside of a little shopping plaza, parking was plenty available and easy to walk to if needed. The restaurant itself has a white neon sign, super bright, but would recommend a color change that may be easier on the eyes or something that jumps out at you screaming Mezzo was there. We did have to circle around to find it. Once inside, looks and feels of a small Italian restaurant, decor on the walls were nice. Staff was friendly and able to get us seated immediately. Menu was extensive and had lots of yummy choices. Always ask for the specials as there a few of those too not listed on the menu. We started with Ahi Tartare and my oh my was that fresh! So good that we wanted to order another round! Duck was also a fantastic choice. Meat was tender and juicy; chutney flavoring made it sweet and delightful. Mezzo meatballs came out next along with the chicken piccata. Both were hot and yummy to eat. Would suggest for an italian fusion spot to maybe add a longer pasta menu with different types of pasta. Overall, food was very fresh, and very appetizing. Another suggestion would have been free bread with olive oil / vinegar if you wanted to be more upscale but was not a concern while here. This place is small but big enough to have a party of about 10 people or more. The food was fantastic ribeye looked so good and my friend said it was the best so next time I'm there that's going to be my dinner. It's a full bar and had a great wine list. We've been wanting to try Mezzo for quite sometime and finally went with friends who ordered steamed fish & a pizza that they thoroughly enjoyed. Being an Italian bistro I ordered pasta with marinara sauce without the meatballs. Although the sauce was so sweet it was extremely difficult to eat. A small discount for no meatballs would have been nice. My husband had the Puttanesca which was also very sweet and was not enjoyed. I understand adding a little sugar to tomato sauce to cut the acidity but not to make it so sweet it could pass for a bad desert. To say something good our wine was excellent. They open at 5pm. The staff were busy after 5pm. The bar as well as the dining area. We started with appetizers the mezzo board, escargot, and crispy pork belly. Everything was good. Now for the entrees. I ordered sautéed opakapaka with vegetables. Gabe had rack of lamb, hes friend wife had garlic shrimp pasta, the husband had mezzo meatball pasta, and the other friend had what I had sautéed opakapaka. Everything was to their liking. Since I really liked my last visit, it took months for me to do this update with one less star. This time was also for a birthday and it was specifically noted in the reservation and also mentioned directly at the restaurant. However, the restaurant was busy and nothing was said or done unlike the last time. So that was disappointing. My favorite appetizer, the Escargot was still very good and I was happy about that. They were friendly & efficient. They come to our table to check us and always make sure we are comfortable & that the food we ordered were good. Food: Pizza (tomato sauce, mozzarella, prosciutto with fresh arugula) - it was served on a naan bread crust and tbh, it was pretty good. The crust has a good crunch on it and it was thin. Pretty decent food the evening we went! Great friendly service with live music. The restaurant had no windows so it could be a little dim. I feel like it could use a bit more decor to make add more warmth to it. My favorite items there were the mud pie and surf and turf. The filet mignon was very tender and juicy and the lobster was delectable. We also tried their escargot, foie gras, duck breast. The escargot could use a bit more herbs, the foie gras was mostly fat and not much liver, not very good quality, and the duck breast was cooked almost like in Cantonese style? I meet a friend there around 1030p for drinks. The lighting inside already sets a calm chill mood when you walk in. Looks like a full bar cool with a cool custom built countertop. Good size TV that has sports on. The bartenders were AWESOME. Especially Annie!!! It's a good feeling when your bartender knows customers names when they walk in. Such a hidden restaurant that I never knew existed but with great Italian and local fusion food. We came to celebrate a birthday and made a reservation. For apps we had escargot and fried pork belly. Escargot was so buttery and delicious and loved the bread it comes with. The fried pork belly was also good but not outstanding. For my main I got the shrimp scampi which had big shrimp pieces but I think the stand out for me was again the bread. The pasta was good but nothing super special or outstanding to me. For dessert we got tiramisu, mud cake, and a complimentary pie to share. Desserts were such a hit and I really loved the mud pie. It was a busy Friday night, live music, you could tell most people were regulars and you know you get that feeling the food is gonna be good. We were lucky we were able to get a table an hour before going in. I believe he was the host and he let us sit down on a high table and we asked if we could sit at another ground level table and just needed to clean it. As soon as it got cleaned, another couple walked in and took the seat. Oh well. I wish I could remember what we ordered but I do remember everything was flavorful and hot out of the kitchen. Recently, our friend posted some photos of this restaurant and within two days we come here to try because the food looks pretty good. this restaurant located at market city bottom level, plenty of parking. The decoration inside of restaurant makes you feel like you are inside a wine cellar. First of all we love escargot. If the restaurant has escargot, we will go to the restaurant try. It is pretty good, the baked cheese form up nicely on top with melted butter, I will give it a 8 out of 10. My wife ordered the filet mignon, medium rare and they cooked the steak perfectly. I do feel like the size of the steak is a little bit on the small side. I ordered the chicken breast piccata. I was a little bit cautioned when I pick this chicken breast dish, however I must say they cooked the chicken breast perfectly, I also do think the portion of the pasta a little bit too small. Overall, the service is nice, people seem friendly over there, they do have an open bar area. You can sit down and have a drink. How did I miss this little place? Ohhh yeah because they have no signage!! Hahahaha :) it's located right next to R.Fields in market city shopping center. You walk in and it's such a great vibe like you're walking into a winery cellar! Food was so good! Small plates, small prices for the delicious tastes! We had the: Smoked duck - I had to hold myself back from eating it all and be nice to share since it was family style Caesar salad - I liked it but for others just a note it has a strong mustard taste, rather than normal Caesar Margarita pizza - served so cute on a wooden slab. Loads of sauce and cheese!! It definitely isn't those naked margarita pizza where you can see the crust from the top at all, but was probably half an inch high! Prosciutto mozzarella pesto balls with bread - it's like a substance for Italian cuisine! You can't go wrong The wine ... wine Wednesday where it's $10 off a bottle of so, epic!! Last weekend, we had the pleasure of celebrating our cousin's milestone 50th surprise birthday at Mezzo Bistro and Bar! It was our first time coming, and I immediately fell in love with the cozy bistro vibes and wood work on the walls. What I did not know is they have a whiskey bar...  I was quite impressed with their high quality liquor selection! Back to the food though... I must say, a private party is the most excellent way to try a lot of different dishes at one time. The night's spread consisted of: Ahi Poke (sea salt, onion, sesame seeds oil and green onion) House Salad (greens and fresh tomatoes, mixed with basil and garlic and topped with a refreshing classic vinaigrette dressing) w/Bruschetta topping (fresh tomato, basil, garlic and olive oil) available on the side for bonus flavor! Margherita Pizza (tomato sauce, mozzarella and a basil pesto on Naan bread) Mezzo Meatball (pork meatballs in a demi-glace sauce with spinach, artichoke hearts and onions) Garlic Cream Shrimp Scampi (with onion and mushrooms) Braised Shortribs (with mushrooms in a demi-glace sauce) Mama mia! Everything was delicioso, I could not pick a favorite!  The Braised Short Ribs were fork tender, no knife needed! Jun, Jane and crew were amazing, and did everything to ensure we had a great time. Jun even entertained as he made cocktails at the bar! Mezzo is the perfect place for a nice dinner with your special someone, family and/or friends, colleagues, or hosting a celebration. Friday is our 'date night' so this week, hubby and I made our way back to Mezzo. We decided before walking in that it would a pupu-share night to ensure that we'd converse with each other instead of focusing completely on one dish. We ordered our favs ... the mushroom crostini, crispy pork, escargot and, to not feel so guilty, we ordered the Cesar salad. We certainly were not disappointed. Just need to remember to ask for 'easy on the dressing' next time. So hubby was pretty hungry and prime rib was on the menu. They were kind and accommodating when we asked if was possible to order a 'pupu side order - sliced'. Without a blink and with a smile, the answer was 'yes we can do that!' About the prime rib ... they did a great job slicing it into bite-sized pieces. It was sooo good but, I only had a few pieces because hubby was enjoying it so much, I didn't want to spoil the happy look on his face. In the end of course, we could not pass up the Mezzo Affogato. After a year of driving by this place, I decided to give this place a try. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but when you enter, it opens up to a large restaurant. We entered around dinner time so the main dining room was full so we sat in the front, before you get to the bar, by the barn doors. I wanted something good so I ordered the prime rib. It arrived on a bed of au ju sauce, fine mash potatoes zucchini, carrot and horseradish on the side. The prime red was cooked to a perfect medium and melted in mouth. I savored every bite because I wasn't over burdened with huge sides that I normally ordered. Great quality, friendly service, will be back to try other items on the menu. read more

Dinner celebration in Kaimuki, Honolulu, Hawaii... My friends wanted to get together and Donna O. made another great suggestion to meet at Mezzo. Daniel had always wanted to go there; I had walked past it and not known what it was; while Peter had been to Mezzo several times. Donna made reservations for the opening time of 5pm. We arrived early to get better parking in the free shared parking lot. Located across from Kaimuki High School at Market City Shopping Center (on the lower level with Ben Franklin Crafts) on Kaimuki Avenue, the white fluorescent sign in the window might be challenging to find. Look for the red Tanioka's sign and Mezzo will be on the right. Service was very welcoming, friendly, attentive, and helpful. We told the server that it was our friends' wedding anniversary and they placed a lit candle on the Mud Pie! How thoughtful! Some of us ordered appetizers to share: 1. Pepperoni pizza Special was $8 - it had thin, crisp crust - delicious! 2. Escargot - it had six pieces of toast for each of the six cheesy escargot! Perfect! 3. Crostini - topped with fresh mushrooms and mozzarella - yummy! Some of us got entrees to share: 1. Lamb - Special of the Day - tender and tasty! 2. Prime rib - moist and filling 3. Mezzo Bistro & Bar is located on the ground floor in Market City Shopping Center. They are to the right of Fujioka's Wine Times when facing the business from the parking lot. It was formally Formaggio Wine Bar. The layout of the restaurant is the same as Formaggio Wine Bar but there is no stage area for live music (at least not when we went). Lighting was brighter than Formaggio Wine Bar and my eyes didn't have to struggle to see the menu or adjust much. The walls had modern and trendy artwork to decorate the space. Customer service was good and consistent all night. It seems that they have a lot of regulars and the regulars know each other which was nice. We decided to share so we could get a good tasting of the menu. Our order was Escargot, Crostini Ai Porcini, Pepperoni Pizza, Prime Rib, Rack of Lamb, Braised Shortribs, Mud Pie and a friend ordered Mezzo Prime Rib Loco Moco. The food was prepared perfectly and was delicious. I didn't get to try the Mezzo Prime Rib Loco Moco but everything else was legit. My personal favorites in order were Rack of Lamb, Prime Rib then Braised Shortribs. The Pepperoni Pizza on naan bread was quite good and my favorite of the appetizers. In Hilo, there used to be a place called Harringtons. They had a number of dishes that we considered awesome - but the #1 amazing dish was escargot. It was an exotic thing to eat at the time. Over the years, my wife and I have had escargot at different restaurants all over the mainland. Something about all of that gooey goodness! Well, here comes Mezzo. So many reviews saying the escargot was great! So when we went there, we ordered TWO orders sight unseen - well we saw it on Yelp! It was as good as they say. Here's the thing.... they give the correct number of pieces of bread!!! For some reason, no one does this. I mean, if you have 6 escargot, you want 6 bread! Mezzo gets it right and you can take your time and dip the bread into the goodness that is in that dish. YES, IT IS GOOD!!!!!!!! Just order it. AWESOME! Cheesy, buttery, awesomeness. We also got the crispy pork and yes, it is crispy!!!! It looks great and tastes great! The salad was fresh, and the pizza..... It was on Naan bread and was tasty! It wasn't that big, but it did fill you up! They have a nice selection of drinks too! Service was very, very good and the interior was nice! The had a number of great sounding specials but we wanted to try the staple items and I have no doubt everything they make tastes good! So.... stand out escargot and great dishes! I was so sad when I found out Formaggio closed, but I have to say that Mezzo Bistro & Bar is just as amazing! My boyfriend and I were originally going to come for his birthday, but sadly they were closed due to a water break. They emailed me and offered to reschedule, but luckily I already had another reservation scheduled the week after since I have been wanting to try this place out. We arrived right when they opened, so there was only one other party seated. The interior is dimly lit and very intimate (just the way I like it!). The servers were very attentive and super friendly. We ordered the escargot, the mezzo board, garlic cream scampi, and the mezzo prime rib loco moco. Let me just say, that everything we ate was delicious! The escargot was cheesy and garlicky, the mezzo board had a lovely selection of different cheeses and meats, the scampi had a good number of shrimp was not overly rich, and the loco moco was savory and tasty. The cherry on top, was that the server remember that they had cancelled our reservation on my boyfriend's birthday, and gave us free dessert with a candle!!! It was the sweetest thing. Official Keto Prescription Review! Been meaning to come here for a while since it's nearby. Lots of free parking in the Market City Shopping Center. We were able to beat the crowd with a 5:45pm reservation. Johnny is one of the owners and served us all night. He knows I'm keto so was able to accommodate us perfectly. We started with the crispy pork belly which was perfectly cooked. The vinegar sauce has Calamansi lime added to it which gave it a nice flavor. Nice twist. I was hoping to order the escargot, but apparently there's been a shortage for a couple months. I wonder what's up with all the snail farms? Really wanted to try the meatballs minus the pasta so he suggested it "pupu style." The sauce was so good that I pretty much cleaned my bowl of it. It's a light, very slightly creamy mushroom sauce that paired well. The meatballs were accompanied by mushrooms, artichoke hearts and a small amount of spinach. I would order this again. Jeff order the braised short ribs minus the mashed potatoes and liked it. The meat was tender and it came with what tasted like a red wine reduction sauce. He was full when we left. It's nice to support a local business who's open to modifying menu items for low carb/keto people. Next up, trying to convince them to offer zucchini noodles in place of pasta or a keto pizza crust. Excellent food and ambience as well as the service. It's not a fine dining place so you can wear all casual wear. However the food is sophisticated and elaborate. 4/2/2023 we tried the Kumamoto oysters and kampachi fish - both excellent. My teenage son enjoyed the prime beef loco moco which was very large in portion and it was delicious. We also tried scampi pasta (OK), Caesar salad (10/10), bruschetta (good appetizer). Finally the mud pie was huge! It was enough for 3 people I think. Also the tiramisu was good! Will definitely return! read more

My family and I went to Mezzo Restaurant on September 12th, 2025 while celebrating a very special occasion my son proposed to his girlfriend that evening, and we had all flown out from California to share in the moment. The atmosphere was wonderful, warm, and inviting, which made it a perfect spot for such a memorable night. The service was on the slower side that was a bummer and it took a while for our food to come out, but once it arrived, everything was absolutely delicious. The garlic bread, in particular, was amazing so good that it deserves a spot as an option on the menu so guests can order extra. The restaurant itself was a little tricky to find with signage that wasn't very clear, but once inside, we were glad we made the effort. Overall, it was a beautiful evening with outstanding food and a great atmosphere, and despite the slow service, the experience will always stand out as a wonderful part of our celebration. read more

Cozy little wine bar/restaurant with eclectic menu. Reasonably prices wine list and full bar with some cute specialty cocktails. Drinks were a little slow in arriving. Short-ribs not as soft as we expected. Kampachi was interesting but not exceptionally flavorful. We were disappointed that the online description of the salmon entree wasn't available. Corkage available at $30 a bottle is not bad. Creme brûlée was thick and tiny. Meatballs were flavorful. Escargot pieces were generous but cheese topping a little burnt. Clearly there are some regulars that love the place and live music brought back memories from the 70's and 80's - in a nice way. They have a special bottle price on wine on Wednesdays. read more

The Mud Pie was amazingggg!! I was looking on Yelp specifically where I could get this dessert. It was close by and open later when I was craving it! Conveniently located in the Makiki Shopping Village, downstairs in the back by Ben Franklin's. Parking is super open and easy to find. read more
