It's been a minute since I've eaten here. Used to be my old stomping grounds when I worked in the area, but haven't been back in years. I was in the area and had a craving for the cheese balls. Omg, they were the same deliciousness that I remember. I got the 6-pack, and my son and I devoured it in minutes! So cheesy and tasty! We ordered the sumo pizza and that was also as I remember. Everything from the sauce to the cheese to the toppings...so yummy! It was busy the day we went but we still snagged a table. Service was quick and the workers were pleasant. It wasn't noisy inside so I could eat in peace and enjoy every bite. Will definitely be back soon!
Update on Big Kahuna's Pizza the other day I ordered take out . I ordered garlic spinach minus tomatoes, cheese pizza and Meat lovers . Side order of their delicious garlic cheese balls . I've noticed you need to eat their garlic cheese balls right away by the time I got home the cheese was already hard . Support local
This time around, I decided to make a trip back to Big Kahuna's Pizza, and that time, I ordered a pizza. I ordered the Kanaka and it wasn't too bad. It was a bit on the small side, but was filling. I even got some dessert to take home with a Triple D brownie. Overall, Big Kahuna totally redeemed themselves and made my experience here worth it. Thanks so much...as I'm hoping to come back here again sometime with a friend in hopes we'll eat here again.
1-25-26 Last night, phone ordered dinner from the airport as our flight from Lihue back to Honolulu was delayed. 20 minutes quoted for a Sumo pizza. I was told only 7 inch since ran out of the 12 inch size. Sure, that's fine. I'd like to order dessert please. The female voice told me what was available and once I heard we have a new one, coconut mochi. I was sold. The 7 inch size was loaded with all the wonderful ingredients of a Sumo pizza, good for one person/ like a personal pan pizza size. Tried the coconut mochi this morning. Probably the first time I didn't immediately devour a dessert. The slice comes in a clear plastic container. I cut it in half to share and marveled at the nice crust edge. The flavor was indeed like a homemade butter mochi made with love. So if you are near the airport, across from Dunkin' Donuts, enter the armed gate. You might enjoy their various pizzas but if you LOVE butter mochi, try it here - very good!

I can just taste the Paisano pizza toppings as I look at the photos. There is absolutely NOTHING bad about Big Kahuna's! Fresh ingredients assembled by the finest pizza makers in the state, reflects in the flavor of the finished product. A friend orders the sandwiches and said they are also very good. Two sizes depending on your appetite. Usually really busy at lunch sometimes not making any more pizzas bc they sold out, but still do sandwiches and famous cheeseballs. These delectable buttery, cheesy balls are soft and fluffy. Once paired w marinara sauce, it's game over. No sharing! Get your own!! Lots of stalls in the gated parking lot. Take a ticket and get it validated. Restaurant is not very spacious inside, however, there are several places to sit and eat. Thank you, Grubhub for offering delivery!

I was most excited for the garlic cheese balls. They didn't have as much flavor as they did before. I feel like it used to be almost too garlicky but now it's kinda bland. Pizza also is kinda bland even though they put a lot of sauce. Not a lot of toppings (see picture) pork was a little light. I would come back to try something else like a sandwich but I would not get the same pizza or the garlic cheese balls again. Service was fine, not very friendly but quick considering they make the food fresh, around 20 min.
We've eaten at lot of different pizza places and this one is exceptional. We could taste the fresh ingredients, it was super hot, got the 12" sumo and it was enough for three of us. The two employees were very friendly. Just enough tables and chill vibes, and they validated parking.
Big Kahuna's Pizza located on Paiea St near the airport. Love their Pizzas . The crust makes it cravable. Oh and the Garlic Cheese Balls are to die for . Wonderful baked pillows of dough topped with lots of garlic and ooey gooey cheesy goodness. We had the Barbecue Chicken and Pepperoni 6" pizzas as well. Everything was amazingly delicious . Service was great. Nice casual dining room decorated with nostalgic memories.
Haven't been here in a very long time. Lucky for me, my kids picked me up from the airport and came straight here for dinner. First time I had to eat were their garlic cheese balls. Delicious just as I remembered. The kids ordered two kinds of pizza: the chorizo one and a sweet chicken one. Both tasted good because you can't beat homemade pizzas but I'm more of a spicy girl so the chorizo one was the winnah! Best welcome home dinner yet!
Food was OK. The customer service sucks. The girl that works in the back has horrible customer service would I come back mmm maybe.. I had the California club. It tasted OK.

The garlic cheese balls were just as delicious as I remember it. Prices have risen by a few dollars since I last visited but it was still decent quality and service.
With the lost of Pielogy. Looking for small 7 inch hand toss pizza which I can add as many toppings I want. Well, this place has it. Validation parking with lots of stalls. Walk in and up to the counter and ordered my 7in hand toss pizza which I can put what ever I want on my pizza ( for a price ). Ordered two 7 in pizzas and 6 pieces salt and vinegar wings. The order came as expected for made to order food. Chicken came first. Hot crunchy and seasoned well. Would have ordered more but had pizza coming. Pizza was crunchy and not soggy. Just how I like it. Alot of toppings to suit me. Not to oily. Pros: Crunchy and not soggy personal 7 in pizza with toppings I can choose. Wings were great, came hot and well seasoned. Cons: Self-service driking fountain but you have to pay for refills. No cups for water. Need to buy water bottle. Would I go back? Yes, you can count on it. Like the name of the place says. I'm glad to see this place is still around & thriving. I used to frequent the original spot in Mapunapuna many moons ago. This location is def a cleaned up version. Plenty of parking - be sure to get your ticket validated. Wish the cashier had reminded us/asked us as we ended up having to pay. Easy menu, decent choices. Food is made to order so there is a little bit of a wait. Pizza was tasty & filling. We had enough leftover to equal a whole pizza but they won't give you a pizza box for the leftovers. Instead it's the typical white plate lunch type container. A good handful of tables available for dine in. Neat nostalgia, pics to look at along the walls. read more

Tried some new items! Their Sandwiches have excellent soft toasted bread. Ham & Mushroom sandwich with a 5 cheese blend : Provolone, Cheddar, Mozzarella, Romano, and Parmesan. Really good. The New Yorker sandwich was great with a slightly charred Pastrami, pickles and cheese. Lots of flavor! TRY THIS! Pulled Pork sandwich with mayo and BBQ sauce was filling! Very flavorful! A local fave! Chicken Wings with BBQ & Ranch dipping sauce on the side. Pretty Large Wings. Refrigerated Brownie with white chocolate ganache was a sweet treat! :) MAHALO! read more

With so much good local cuisine who comes to HI to eat Pizza? Apparently we do. With the number of reviews and ratings we couldn't resist. It's small, 6 tables with a long wait time. About 25 mins for our 12" Sumo Special. We were told up front there was a wait. In reality it only took 15 mins for our hot, messy & gooey pizza to arrive. No complaints, it was ridiculously delicious. The thin crust was completely covered with ingredients( too many to list) The only reason we saw cheese is because it was on top. I was a little skeptical about the $26 price tag on a 12" pie. That ended at the 1st bite. I've been eating pizza for more years and in multiple countries than I'd like to admit to. This was, by far, the best pizza I've ever eaten. I don't rave about much, these guys earned it. If you're reading this review you're looking for great pizza. Look no further, this is it. They also support our armed forces. If you're military or veteran bring proof for a small discount. read more

I've had pizza here before but somehow, what's even better is the sandwiches! The New Yorker has pastrami and slaw. Very saucy, almost too saucy but that pastrami meat flavor still comes through. The sandwiches are huge. Huge. Easily enough for two normal eaters; small eaters might get 3 meals even. Worth a try. Get the garlic balls if you need extra. read more
We came during lunch time and it was so crowded! You might have to wait in line to sit down since the space is pretty small. The menu was very extensive, but no worries! The employees were really good at giving you suggestions on what to order based on what you like! We ordered the personal size pizzas and it was surprisingly pretty big! It was also so tasty! Next, we got their chicken wings and I love how crispy and juicy it was! We also got their sandwich and surprisingly, this was my favorite one! The meat were so juicy and tasty and just everything combined was really tasty. We can't forget about their garlic cheese balls! It was pretty tasty, but I wish it was a little more garlicky and cheesy! But it was definitely worth the try! Service was also really fast! Definitely check them out! read more

Soooo good We ordered online to skip the long lines and pickup was easy. The staff was super nice and even hooked us up with an extra pizza because they made one too many, mahalo! We got the Sumo, White Cheese, and the extra pizza was sausage & pepperoni. All of them were straight bangers, serious kanak attack after. Garlic cheese balls + BK's Triple D's cheeeeehooooo broke da mouth Inside feels welcoming and family vibes. Parking's a little annoying and we missed our turn, but this spot is 100% a pizza staple. Gotta come back for sure! read more
This is a hidden gem near airport! Sandi's were best I had on the island, straight broke da mouf!!! Service was quick and friendly and it is a small friendly little spot that takes you somewhere. I really like their pizza. Good toppings and reasonably priced. I also appreciate how there's personal pan size is enough for an individual. Their sandwiches with the same pizza toppings were interesting. Their garlic knots were good but maybe more garlic would make it better. read more

My husband ordered online as we were headed to a friends house, our food was hot and ready by the time we got to the restaurant. The service was so quick and the staff was very nice helping us collect our order. We ordered 2 12" pizzas, some of the garlic bread balls, and this dessert fudge item and it was all super unique. I can honestly say I haven't had anything like it. My husband didn't tell me what he ordered originally so I got to blindly taste them and the Kalua pork pizza was my personal favorite, it was super cheesy and the bbq sauce complimented the pork so nicely without over powering it. The Mexican pizza was good with a bit of spice, I was surprised because I didn't know it was a Mexican pizza and it looks like a standard supreme pizza as first glance but it was a nice surprise. We got the garlic bread as well and personally was not my favorite, the flavor was good but the bread balls were pretty inconsonant, some had all the toppings of cheese and garlic and then some of the bottom ones were just soaked in butter. As for the dessert I personally do not like fudge so I did not give it a go but my husband loved it and said he would go out of his way to get just the dessert again. Overall I would order again from here and I am excited to try more unique items on the menu. read more

A friend of mines is a frequent customer at this establishment. She would rave to me how good their food is. I love pizza and anything garlic bread. My husband & I decided to dine here for lunch. We got the cheese garlic balls/rolls? And the sumo personal pan pizza. First off - this is a made to order pizza place. I thought they sold pizza slices but no they only offer personal pan sizes & up. The cheese garlic balls/rolls were a solid 3.5/5 for me. I had high expectations because of my friend. It was more on the cheesy side and my first bite was with the roll that had the slightest amount of cheese. The sumo pizza was a 4/5 for me though. I really loved how it was overloaded with so much toppings. Not a lot of places top off their pizza with a ton of toppings. I personally couldn't enjoy my meal because it was extremely hot inside. I'm not sure if the ac was broken that day I went in. But that's why I removed a star to my review. The workers overall were very nice & friendly, the restaurant itself was clean all around. "Eat It" - Weird Al Yankovic * who the heck measures the pizzas?* - I did. The reason I did this was when I went to pick it up, the order looked tiny for $70.00. The sizes did not add up (see below) My husband rates this place a 4.5, I rate it a 3.0. It's been about 30 yrs since I last went to Big Kahuna's back when they had a cool little shack-like dive in a parking lot by Mapunapuna, and I remember the Cheesy Balls being super good as well as the food. PARKING: validated parking at the Airport Trade Center. The parking ticket scanner SUCKS but this is not factored into this review. ORDER ONLINE: avoid the walk-in 20 to 30 min wait if you order out. If you join their frequent buyer program for free, you get points where you can get free cheesy balls, or use points for purchase. Checking in on Yelp will get you no perks. EATING IN: small eating area with limited seating, glad I took out. Plus, we like to drink beer while eating our pizza, so we just took out. VALUE: Another one of those places where they ask for a tip out-right when you order. Adding tip plus tax added another $10+ dollars to the order. Tip for takeout, really? Value for food 3.0 rating The small pizzas are supposedly 7 inches. The large pizzas are 12 inches. I measured the small, they are all 6 inches or smaller, the large is 11 inch - I figured the cooked size was smaller than the raw size, so either shrinkage or shrink-flation. Small Eggplant Pizza: $9.95, small chunks of eggplant, sundried tomatoes, carmelized onions, dijon vinaigrette. Thick and doughy with lots of crust vs ingredients. I am eating a handful of cashews after eating this pizza as I am still hungry. Unsatisfying. 3.0. Small Mexican Pizza: $9.95, smoked bacon, chorizo, black beans and jalapeno. 4.5 rating. Small Texas Pizza: $9.95, beef brisket, onions and BBQ sauce. 4.5 rating. Big Sumo Special: $23.95, pepperoni, ham, Italian and Portuguese sausage, bacon, kalua pork, onions, tomatoes, black olives, mushroom. 4.5 rating. Cheesy Balls: $6.95 for 7-pieces. Flavorless gobs of dough with flavorless gobs of congealed, solid cheese with a few pieces of dried garlic - not worth re-heating but will dump into trash. Not good at all and I don't see what the hype is all about. 2.0 rating. Total including tax and "tip" - $70.00 (rounded up the $69.00). Not a very good value, in my opinion. My family liked this place better than I did, but for 3 small pizzas, a large pizza and a tasteless glob of dough for more than $1.00 a piece was a deal-breaker. Return factor: them - yes! me - no. I will go back to the tried and true dine-in at JJ Dolan's, Giovanni's, or Boston's. The price for value is too dismal at Big Kahuna's. read more
