Certainly it has been a while since I could remember eating out in the Chinatown side of Oahu. Last time I could remember eating around there was at Murphy's...man does time fly quickly than usual. So my expectations were a bit curious with a place like J Dolan's. I've seen people say that they serve one of the best New York-style pizzas in Oahu. After today, they certainly delivered on that promise. So...as far as what I ordered there, with a friend, this was a good place to share a pizza and salad today. I got their mixed green salad alongside the Boardwalk pie. Wow...was it so good. Salad - Loved it...felt very fresh and unique, especially with the snow peas and broccoli, two ingredients I wouldn't have expected to be on a salad, but it works. Pizza - Dynamite. The crust was so crispy and definitely was beautiful to look at. Flavor was excellent...as it made me feel like I was experiencing a taste of New York right there. I can't say much more about this place, but man...they really brought the 'wow' factor for a pizza pub. Would I recommend this place? Totally. If you want to experience a good slice of NY style pizza, this is a good place to look at. Maybe sometime if I do come back, I would love to try their Giacomo pie. The spinach and garlic (has Ricotta cheese on top too) is my must get here! I used to be extremely loyal to the White Jersey Pie, but I could use some spinach. Hahaha. Sometimes I'll hop between the classic meat loaded pies, shrimp scampi, or the classic pepperoni. Perfect to pair with all the different beers on tap. Want pizza by the slice? There are pepperoni and cheese pizza slices available. Chicken wings - Your typical comfort food. Not too oily. Jalapeño poppers - My guilty pleasure. I love the spicy heat mixed with creamy cheese dipped fried in batter. They let you customize pies here too! But why mess with already made perfect recipes? Parking in downtown can be a little crazy, so I usually place phone orders to pick up pizzas. Eating in at the bar or at a table after work is always fun. Well I have been coming here for about 3 years and enjoy the pizzas and beer. It has been a while since I was last here so maybe I am behind the times but the cost is outrageous. Just over $37 for a pizza to go and a beer while I waited. Granted the pizza I like the taste but the cost too much and the bartender, well she was impersonal and just takes away from the cool little neighborhood bar I had come to like. Decided to stop by after attending a show at Hawaii Theatre. The place was packed but the food actually came out really fast. We ended up ordering a lot of food and it was all good and fresh. We got the white pie and the giacamo (my personal favorite). The caprese salad was really good and so were the jalapeño poppers. I keep coming back to this place whenever I attend concerts or shows at the Hawaii Theater. They always have openings compared to other restaurants nearby. Love that they open late. I've been coming here ever since gong to HPU for college and this place never disappoints. Love the old school pub vibes. Theres TVs for sports and a full bar. Can never go wrong with pizza and beer. The vibes are a classic Irish pub/American bar, with the decor and general vibes immediately putting you in the right state of mind. The service is always friendly and expedient. You can tell they're here to get $hit done, and well, but not so rushed that you feel like you're a bother. Love it. Wide range of beers on tap. Cold and refreshing. The fries and onion rings are SO crispy. Amazing. And the star of the show: the pizza. The crust is the perfect combination of lightly fluffy yet thin and crispy to perfection. You can build your own pie, or order from any one of their delicious signature flavors. You can also order half & half! Visiting J. Dolan's is something out of 80's tv show like Cheers. It's a good size bar located across from Hawaii Theatre. Public pay parking is right in the front. I couldn't help but notice their wooden tables and chairs, nostalgic arts on the wall and big bar counter. Very clean vintage look that I appreciate as I get older. Yes this is a bar with great pizza and affordable adult drinks. Don't expect extensive menu. It's a pizza joint with simple menu. I always appreciate simple menu items made well. This place used to be called J. J. Dolan's but life happens and name was changed but it's a same place when it was called J. J. Dolan. As for the pizza, it's simple, good, and not greasy at all. I am not sure where else in Hawaii you can get this New York or mainland style pizza aside this place. I also got Irish Red beer for $8.50, dark color beer but light. Service is excellent and efficient. We came around 5:30pm-ish and the dinner crowd started trinkling in. Okay I have to update my review because I've now gone out of my comfort zone and tried their Fish and Chips and the Fried Chicken Wings, and both are SO GOOD! All of it is fried perfectly and I'm making this review after I've already gone back three times craving the fish... We loved this place! It was a bar and restaurant with bar theme thoughout. It was not so busy when we arrived. We decided to eat here before going to a show at the Hawaii theater. Incredibly delicious pie! I wanted something different from all the heavy Hawaiian food we were consuming on vacation. As delicious as they were, I just needed variety and J. Dolan answered the call. The fresh spinach and chopped garlic pizza was the perfect choice. The light flavors of the ricotta and spinach went well with the savory garlic and incredible crust. Surprisingly, as much as I wanted to avoid feeling heavy....we finished the pizza. It was impossible not to. After the first slice, we couldn't put down our food and we kept digging for more. At least we didn't order another one because it was definitely considered. So at least I got variety, but my lack of self control continued the trend of feeling heavy...but who cares? If you ask me, this is the best pizza on Oahu. It's thin crust, New York style, always hot and fresh. I am an Italian from New York so if I vouch for this place then you know it must be good (if you disagree then you don't know real pizza lol jk) Anyway, 10 out of 10 every time. It can get a little busy at prime time but they food is worth the wait. It's a bar like dark atmosphere but cozy inside. Followed Our Nose , Found Great Pizza My husband and I were dropping off a friend at a nearby bar when we literally followed the smell of pizza straight to J. Dolan's. Did we know we were craving pizza? Nope. But apparently, our noses did. We were greeted right away and got to choose our own table. Our server was friendly, quick with waters, and helpful in explaining the different pizza bases. We started with an order of onion rings (or so we thought) and chose the spinach and garlic pizza and added chicken. The pizza came out piping hot at 8:38PM, and by 8:45PM it was completely gone. Thin crust, fresh ingredients, and the ricotta was a tasty touch. Absolutely delicious. The only downside? We never got our onion rings. But honestly, maybe that was for the best. More room for pie. Calling it "God's plan" lol. Overall, I'd definitely come back. The pizza is a great size, reasonably priced, and full of flavor. Someone @the Hospital he works at, bought Pizza for his Entire Department, Her Department & an Icu Department, to thank them for taking care of their loved one!! Very Appreciative of that person I'd say!! This Chill Pizza Joint is located right in our Hawai'i Chinatown, it pretty easy to find if your familiar with not only our lil Chinatown in Hawai'i Nei, but it's very near our "Hawai'i Theater", real Super easy to locate, you can't miss this place!! Arrived here right around 8:00 pm. Ish or So, this place was pretty busy & all the Tables were pretty filled up! We walked inside, I was looking for a Waitress l, then I heard this Wahine named *Brandi* yell out, OPENED SEATING, okay, I heard you Brandi, Loud & Clear...Lol. Found our Seats, *Brandi* came back to our table asking if if we wanted anything to drink, we Said sure. Water for David (Sm Glass??), then I ordered a Diet Coke, I prefer a Diet Pepsi more, but I'll take whatever "Diet Drink" they have, atm. Brandi came back with our Drinks, esp with David manini Cup (lol!) of H2o, which I even asked her if maybe she could put David Water in a bigger glass, maybe?? We chose this place because of its proximity to the Hawaii theatre. Not sure why it is billed as a "Irish bar". The only Irish thing was the glass Jameson decor. Service was prompt! Bartender directed us to an empty table upon arrival. It was 5pm on a Friday. In less than 20, the place was packed with a line. We lucked out! Noisy but charming, small-town vibe in the heart of the city. Server was friendly, efficient and fast! Jamie B. was rocking it! Kitchen must be on top of it, too. After placing our order, Iʻd estimate it was about 15 minues from her pen to our table. Pizza was classic New York style thin style pizza. Ordered 1/2 Giacomo (recommended by some reveiwers) and 1/2 Roasted Red Bell, Onion and Garlic. I preferred the Red Bell version. The pizza was so tasty that not once did I consider adding the parmesean cheese or pepper flakes. It never occured to me! This is my go to pizza spot in Chinatown. It has been a staple for my office lunches and it's perfect for any type of gathering. The calamari is a great starter and all of their pizza options have been good so far. Ask about the specials because they are not on the menu and on Sundays they have a cheese bread that is amazing! The wings are good very crispy but they serve it with blue cheese so it's not my favorite. They don't have ranch so sometimes I do bring my own. The service is usually quick and they have always been really accommodating and polite. They have a full bar and always have games on so if the food isn't your thing then maybe the bar will be more your speed. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area and I will definitely keep this on my restaurant rotation. read more

On a Friday night the bar and dinner area are busy! There's a wait for a table or you can sit at the bar, just getting lucky to get a seat or two when you can. It has a vibe I'm back in the city of Boston or a New England and it feels a place I'd like to swing by after a hectic day at work. I grabbed a slice of pizza and a glass of wine. Later did I learn the bartenders make fantastic drinks and they are adorable under $10, which since living here it's usually anywhere from $12-$25 a drink. I only tried a slice of the cheese pizza and know I could probably eat the whole Pie by myself, i have to go back asap to make sure I wasn't imagining delicious pizza like this here in Hawai'i. Derek was a bit more attentive than Russ after switching seats at a point for a different view. I hate sitting with my back to the door. The bathrooms are one stall for each gender in the back, pretty clean for a pub setting. There is an ATM in side to the right of the door if you need it, I didn't even notice it at first. read more

Yup never been here... It's certainly better late than never as I planned on something else though J.Dolan's had crossed my lunch path you know I had to given them a peek. This cool Irish pub in Bethel Street seems basic from the outside though once you walk in the vibe here is just calm and welcoming (don't tell them that lol!) as many folks chose to sit at the bar so grabbed a table in the corner and ordered me a pizza. The staff here are on top of it as I entered she greeted me instantly and got my settings and order in a jiffy I enjoyed the various decor with Eminem to a Hawaiian Quilt. Taking it directly from the menu "Giacomo" is pronounced "Jock O' Mo" which has pepperoni, sausage, salami & black olives it sounds like the topping I'm ready for and what a deal as the pizza here is quite massive! Thin crust so you need two hands and with cheese and peppers table side they don't mess around as you need to fold this one to take a bite and what bite it was. I'd been hearing rave reviews about J Dolan's and finally came for a Thursday 49ers game. Empty at first, but it was full by 5pm - and we still got a table after moving from the bar. We were excited to try the pizza (my dad likes JD and Black Shamrock Tavern for their pizza). The spinach garlic pizza with added chicken was so good! The jalapeño poppers were also solid. Overall, it was really nice to be able to hang at a table with pizza and drinks on a football night (afternoon) - would not be able to find space like this in the Bay. And, for 4 people, the total came out to 74.05$ including tip! Can't wait to make another trip to J Dolan's while we're here. read more

After checking out the reviews we decided to give their pizza a try. We ordered the Gacaimo. The pizza crust was the best part. Toppings were under wheeling and salty. Could even tell if there was any sauce. Leaving this pizza lackluster and needing flavor. Additionally, we selected to go here because of the advertised beer selection. When I placed my drink order, the waitress told me the beer was not available. It was listed on the web site and the board outside the entrance. I felt deceived and the suggested alternative was not even close to beer I ordered. At the prices for drinks and food we expected a better experience. J. Dolan's in Chinatown has some of the best pizzas and just overall such a chill vibe. Everyone just seems to be having the best times at J.Dolan's. It is in Chinatown so parking can be rough, but it's the perfect spot to either start or end your night at. Definitely catered to the younger ish crowd. When I went in they were playing 2000's pop punk and most people were singing along. We got the spinach and garlic pie and added anchovies (don't yuck my yum ok) the pizza comes with spinach, garlic and ricotta cheese dolloped on top. I love a nice thin crust and a little burnt for that extra bitter flavor and J.Dolan's definitely provides that. We also ordered some drinks but I can't say that they were anything special.
