Delicious pizza! Exceptional crust. Variety if beer on tap, including Guinness and Peroni! We had the Giacomo and chicken w mushroom.
A few co-workers and I walk up Bethel Street to dine at J. Dolans when one of us wants pizza. Thin crust pizza is not my preferred style of pizza so I'm usually an indifferent participant. On this latest occasion, we ordered the Giacomo, a favorite of my tablemates, and one special, a white sauce pizza with mushrooms and spinach. I enjoyed a couple of gin & tonics with slices of very good pizza. Wine might have been better but that's for a future visit. I enjoyed the pizza despite my bias against thin crust pizza. Recommended.
The pizza was fresh, delicious, and perfect! I would same one of the best pizza's I've ever had. The customer service was friendly and welcoming. The ambiance was relaxed for a family or when hanging out with friends. Highly recommend!

The spinach and garlic (has Ricotta cheese on top too) is my must get here! I used to be extremely loyal to the White Jersey Pie, but I could use some spinach. Hahaha. Sometimes I'll hop between the classic meat loaded pies, shrimp scampi, or the classic pepperoni. Perfect to pair with all the different beers on tap. Want pizza by the slice? There are pepperoni and cheese pizza slices available. Chicken wings - Your typical comfort food. Not too oily. Jalapeño poppers - My guilty pleasure. I love the spicy heat mixed with creamy cheese dipped fried in batter. They let you customize pies here too! But why mess with already made perfect recipes? Parking in downtown can be a little crazy, so I usually place phone orders to pick up pizzas. Eating in at the bar or at a table after work is always fun. Who doesn't love those first Fridays events?
Certainly it has been a while since I could remember eating out in the Chinatown side of Oahu. Last time I could remember eating around there was at Murphy's...man does time fly quickly than usual. So my expectations were a bit curious with a place like J Dolan's. I've seen people say that they serve one of the best New York-style pizzas in Oahu. After today, they certainly delivered on that promise. So...as far as what I ordered there, with a friend, this was a good place to share a pizza and salad today. I got their mixed green salad alongside the Boardwalk pie. Wow...was it so good. Salad - Loved it...felt very fresh and unique, especially with the snow peas and broccoli, two ingredients I wouldn't have expected to be on a salad, but it works. Pizza - Dynamite. The crust was so crispy and definitely was beautiful to look at. Flavor was excellent...as it made me feel like I was experiencing a taste of New York right there. I can't say much more about this place, but man...they really brought the 'wow' factor for a pizza pub. Would I recommend this place? Totally. If you want to experience a good slice of NY style pizza, this is a good place to look at. Maybe sometime if I do come back, I would love to try their Giacomo pie. Thanks J Dolan, you really brightened up my day. 10/10
Decided to stop by after attending a show at Hawaii Theatre. The place was packed but the food actually came out really fast. We ended up ordering a lot of food and it was all good and fresh. We got the white pie and the giacamo (my personal favorite). The caprese salad was really good and so were the jalapeño poppers. I haven't been here in a very long time and glad I decided to stop by.
So happy to report that even with the loss of one J, J. Dolan's is still one of the best bar restaurants around! The vibes are a classic Irish pub/American bar, with the decor and general vibes immediately putting you in the right state of mind. The service is always friendly and expedient. You can tell they're here to get $hit done, and well, but not so rushed that you feel like you're a bother. Love it. Wide range of beers on tap. Cold and refreshing. The fries and onion rings are SO crispy. Amazing. And the star of the show: the pizza. The crust is the perfect combination of lightly fluffy yet thin and crispy to perfection. You can build your own pie, or order from any one of their delicious signature flavors. You can also order half & half! My go-tos are the Spinach & Garlic (generous portion of spinach and freshly chopped garlic with huge dollops of gooey ricotta) and the Giacomo (sausage, pepperoni, salami, and olives). Top-notch food, service, and vibes. You just can't go wrong here. Love it love it love it.
Well I have been coming here for about 3 years and enjoy the pizzas and beer. It has been a while since I was last here so maybe I am behind the times but the cost is outrageous. Just over $37 for a pizza to go and a beer while I waited. Granted the pizza I like the taste but the cost too much and the bartender, well she was impersonal and just takes away from the cool little neighborhood bar I had come to like. Again it could be just me but I think I will go to elsewhere.

Visiting J. Dolan's is something out of 80's tv show like Cheers. It's a good size bar located across from Hawaii Theatre. Public pay parking is right in the front. I couldn't help but notice their wooden tables and chairs, nostalgic arts on the wall and big bar counter. Very clean vintage look that I appreciate as I get older. Yes this is a bar with great pizza and affordable adult drinks. Don't expect extensive menu. It's a pizza joint with simple menu. I always appreciate simple menu items made well. This place used to be called J. J. Dolan's but life happens and name was changed but it's a same place when it was called J. J. Dolan. As for the pizza, it's simple, good, and not greasy at all. I am not sure where else in Hawaii you can get this New York or mainland style pizza aside this place. I also got Irish Red beer for $8.50, dark color beer but light. Service is excellent and efficient. We came around 5:30pm-ish and the dinner crowd started trinkling in. If you don't mind the old area of downtown for good pizza, this place won't disappoint you.

I've been here many time over the past two years. Have always been impressed with this place because It gives off the typical corner bar atmosphere, that I love. This is my "go-to" for a beer and pizza. They stock my all time favorite beer Miller High Life in the bottle that getting hard to find. The pizza is spot on. Tastes like an old time pizza joint pizza, with an extremely flavorful sauce. Getting a pizza here reminds me why I stopped eating at the large pizza chains. They also don't skip on the toppings! I've tried everything on the food menu from the fish to the salads. All of em were very tasty. This is definitely a place to chill, have a few colds ones and get a fantastic pizza. read more

Decent pizza and a fun little hole in the wall spot. The pizza was definitely oily, but it didn't actually taste greasy, which I appreciated. One of the meats we tried tasted a little off and wasn't something I'd order again, but overall the pizza was good. The atmosphere feels like a classic neighborhood bar where the bartender knows all the regulars. It has that casual, lived in feel that makes it a fun place to grab a slice and hang out. read more

Great spot to grab pizza to go. Pizza was New York style with a thin crust, meaty toppings and you can add extra toppings as well. The dough was perfectly chewy and thin. Sauce was so flavorful! Parking is metered parking out front. Hidden gem downtown. read more
Okay I have to update my review because I've now gone out of my comfort zone and tried their Fish and Chips and the Fried Chicken Wings, and both are SO GOOD! All of it is fried perfectly and I'm making this review after I've already gone back three times craving the fish... The Bleu Cheese dip for the wings is also really good and I never get bleu cheese lol! Food here is always consistent! read more

First walking in, it is on the smaller side compared to the other location in Kahala. However, the vibe was more of a small pub feeling which was nice. Bartender, Pierre was awesome and we received our drinks quickly! We found ourselves a table, which I felt was first come first serve style. I could be wrong, but we grabbed what was an available. Bubbles, our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive! The pizzas are always delicious and we are never disappointed! Our favorites are the magnetite and boardwalk. Boardwalk has a lot of garlic, so if that's not for you, wouldn't recommend. We enjoyed our time and look forward to coming back! read more
We loved this place! It was a bar and restaurant with bar theme thoughout. It was not so busy when we arrived. We decided to eat here before going to a show at the Hawaii theater. It is easy to miss between the dilapidated store fronts and the unhoused sleeping on the ground. We ordered pizzas and salad and fries. We thought the fries were too salty but everything else was very tasty. My favorite was the margaritas pizza. The Jersey white pie and boardwalk combo were good too. The restrooms were clean and the service was excellent. We missed dessert, none on the menu. We would consider going again if we are in the area. read more
Incredibly delicious pie! I wanted something different from all the heavy Hawaiian food we were consuming on vacation. As delicious as they were, I just needed variety and J. Dolan answered the call. The fresh spinach and chopped garlic pizza was the perfect choice. The light flavors of the ricotta and spinach went well with the savory garlic and incredible crust. Surprisingly, as much as I wanted to avoid feeling heavy....we finished the pizza. It was impossible not to. After the first slice, we couldn't put down our food and we kept digging for more. At least we didn't order another one because it was definitely considered. So at least I got variety, but my lack of self control continued the trend of feeling heavy...but who cares? Hidden Gem Alert: J. Dolan's Irish Pub Last night, we decided to venture out of Waikiki and discovered J. Dolan's Irish Pub--a fantastic spot for thin-crust pizza in Honolulu! The crust was perfectly crisp, the toppings were fresh and flavorful, and the whole vibe of the place was so welcoming. We also ordered the chicken wings, which I really enjoyed paired with a side of ranch, and the garden salad, which was fresh and delicious. On top of the amazing food, the service was excellent, making the experience even better. If you're in Honolulu and craving some seriously good pizza, wings, and great service, J. Downtown vibes; neighborhood bar. This is our go to pizza bars during the week. Salads are always fresh. I love their balsamic vinegar dressing. Our favorite pizza is the Giacomo and our meal is complete with an order of wings. The pizza has a good crust and they balance their ingredients to well. The white pizza is very good too. Followed Our Nose , Found Great Pizza My husband and I were dropping off a friend at a nearby bar when we literally followed the smell of pizza straight to J. Dolan's. Did we know we were craving pizza? Nope. But apparently, our noses did. We were greeted right away and got to choose our own table. Our server was friendly, quick with waters, and helpful in explaining the different pizza bases. We started with an order of onion rings (or so we thought) and chose the spinach and garlic pizza and added chicken. The pizza came out piping hot at 8:38PM, and by 8:45PM it was completely gone. Thin crust, fresh ingredients, and the ricotta was a tasty touch. Absolutely delicious. The only downside? We never got our onion rings. But honestly, maybe that was for the best. More room for pie. Calling it "God's plan" lol. Overall, I'd definitely come back. The pizza is a great size, reasonably priced, and full of flavor. Next time, I'm making it my mission to try those onion rings! read more

Dropped into J. Dolan's in Downtown Honolulu after a long day, craving NY-style pizza and a cold beer at this Irish pub spot on Bethel St. The thin-crust pepperoni pie came out crisp with decent cheese pull, but the sauce felt a bit flat and the toppings sparse for the price--solid for island pizza, just not mind-blowing. read more
Aloha Ahiahi, kinda late here in Hawai'i Nei; 9/24/2024. Dinner @J.Dolan's last evening, my Husband David wanted to come here & wanted me try their Pizza. (He kept raving about how good their Pizza is here!!). Someone @the Hospital he works at, bought Pizza for his Entire Department, Her Department & an Icu Department, to thank them for taking care of their loved one!! Very Appreciative of that person I'd say!! This Chill Pizza Joint is located right in our Hawai'i Chinatown, it pretty easy to find if your familiar with not only our lil Chinatown in Hawai'i Nei, but it's very near our "Hawai'i Theater", real Super easy to locate, you can't miss this place!! Arrived here right around 8:00 pm. Ish or So, this place was pretty busy & all the Tables were pretty filled up! We walked inside, I was looking for a Waitress l, then I heard this Wahine named *Brandi* yell out, OPENED SEATING, okay, I heard you Brandi, Loud & Clear...Lol. Found our Seats, *Brandi* came back to our table asking if if we wanted anything to drink, we Said sure. Water for David (Sm Glass??), then I ordered a Diet Coke, I prefer a Diet Pepsi more, but I'll take whatever "Diet Drink" they have, atm. Brandi came back with our Drinks, esp with David manini Cup (lol!) of H2o, which I even asked her if maybe she could put David Water in a bigger glass, maybe?? Not too sure if she heard me, okay, Whatevers?!! Haha... By then, both of us are hungry & we had the Menus, thnx *Brandi* 4 getting me a 2nd Menu. We ordered A Salad to share, Sorry, I wasn't too much impressed with their Salad, "Tossed Green Salad" is what we ordered, just too much Balsamic Dressing (Imho!) was drenched into our Salad, we barely ate half of it, kinda wish that they put some Olives & Carrots in our Salad!! Lol. By then, we asked if we could Order our Pizza, half & half Style & *Brandi* our Waitress told us why sure we can do that, Super cool!! We even asked *Brandi*, since it was our 1st time eating at this Pizza place, if she the could recommend which PizzaS are popular that most ppl Order from here!! She then recommend the PizzaS that we Ordered, which were the, "Giacomo & Spinach & Garlic Pizza", not bad price for our Pizza ($23.50), Considering that the Pizza was a pretty Nui Size for the both of us, when our Pizza order arrived to our Table, nice & Hot!! The Pizza was good tasting & filling for us. I didn't try the "Spinach & Garlic" Slice of Pizza, I was too full after enjoying my (2) Slices of the "Giacomo" meat Style of Pizza. My Husband David, really enjoyed his (2) Slices of the "Spinach & Garlic" Pizza. We again, had leftovers to take home with us!! I also ordered some French Fries, which again I didn't know that you can order a half Sz order, per our Cool Waitress *Brandi*, little did I know that the French Fries were going to be Delish, Shoe String style of French Fries! We would definitely order a Side order of those French Fries again, Full order!! Haha. Great service here, our Waitress constantly filled up David Water, checked on us Continously, which was Nice, especially knowing that she was the only Waitress Working the Entire place that evening, while the *Bartender* brought our food to our table & other ppl Pizza orders to their respective tables aswell!! We will definitely be back here again, to enjoy their Ono Pizza & maybe next time, Hubby David can enjoy a cold glass of beer! He couldn't drink beer that evening, he had to work the next day at the Hospital he works at, (12 hr) shift, so yeah. Why only 4 Stars, it was our 1st time here & I'm pretty sure when we come back & try other yummies on the Menu, I'm pretty sure I'd rate them, with 5 Stars :). We'll, Hopefully also that your Water glasses are Bigger & not that Manini Sz, that was served to my Husband. Our Waitress came by lots & lots of times to refill his Water, that was really Cool of her!! Mahalo Nui, *Brandi*, your a Hardworking Wahine & Funny too!! Lol. Mahalo Nui, J. We chose this place because of its proximity to the Hawaii theatre. Not sure why it is billed as a "Irish bar". The only Irish thing was the glass Jameson decor. Service was prompt! Bartender directed us to an empty table upon arrival. It was 5pm on a Friday. In less than 20, the place was packed with a line. We lucked out! Noisy but charming, small-town vibe in the heart of the city. Server was friendly, efficient and fast! Jamie B. was rocking it! Kitchen must be on top of it, too. After placing our order, Iʻd estimate it was about 15 minues from her pen to our table. Pizza was classic New York style thin style pizza. Ordered 1/2 Giacomo (recommended by some reveiwers) and 1/2 Roasted Red Bell, Onion and Garlic. I preferred the Red Bell version. The pizza was so tasty that not once did I consider adding the parmesean cheese or pepper flakes. It never occured to me! I was just in pizza heaven - full of flavor, crispy crust, generous toppings, stretchy cheese... I'd definitely come again. read more
Yup never been here... It's certainly better late than never as I planned on something else though J.Dolan's had crossed my lunch path you know I had to given them a peek. This cool Irish pub in Bethel Street seems basic from the outside though once you walk in the vibe here is just calm and welcoming (don't tell them that lol!) as many folks chose to sit at the bar so grabbed a table in the corner and ordered me a pizza. The staff here are on top of it as I entered she greeted me instantly and got my settings and order in a jiffy I enjoyed the various decor with Eminem to a Hawaiian Quilt. Taking it directly from the menu "Giacomo" is pronounced "Jock O' Mo" which has pepperoni, sausage, salami & black olives it sounds like the topping I'm ready for and what a deal as the pizza here is quite massive! Thin crust so you need two hands and with cheese and peppers table side they don't mess around as you need to fold this one to take a bite and what bite it was. They're open 7 days a week. The dress code is casual
Where can you park?
There is metered parking on their end of street of Bethel. Also on Pauahi by the Hawaii Theater. Mark's Garage is right across the street. There is also a parking lot on the left but not sure what the rates are.
Do they offer a gluten free option?
Sorry, we do not have gluten free options for pizza nor appetizers. Only our salads without the dressing would be gluten free.
Did they change their name from J.J Dolan?
Yes. In 2018, one partner stepped away from the business and it became J. Dolan's
Are you offering delivery?
We do not, but some of the delivery company's will pick up from us. Try DoorDash or Postmates. Some other might, too! Keep in mind, we don't have contracts with them.
