Food? We ordered a Supreme sans red peppers to be delivered. This was a very well-put together New York-style pie. The thin crust was not canary but well-blistered without being overcooked. It tasted alive but the sourdough flavor didn't come through. The toppings were of high quality, but could have used a little more. The black olives were not the generic olives we all wore as kids on our fingers at Thanksgiving! Cheese did not overpower or overburden the pie. Service? It took delivery almost 2 hours before we received the pie. It was not hot. Still, getting anywhere in a car in the early evening in Waikiki can be a challenge. Ambiance? I can't say since we got this delivered. This restaurant is one of many that have New York-style pizza pies. They vary from cracker crisp to simply foldable. What I care about is a crust that tastes alive, yeasty, and olive oily. When I added a drizzle of big tasting EVOO, the pie sang. I 've never been to Mad Pie on Keawe Street. I believe they've been at Keauhou Place - across from Down to Earth - for a little over a year. I got two slices of the Spinach Garlic Pie; one slice of the Buffalo Chicken Ranch Pie. The formwe was excellent while the latter was a bit spicy but more salty than anything. Not mad at that pie...but inwould not buy it...as salty as I am this evening after the Patriots blew their season opener at Seattle. The have salads and a vegan pie option. Coming here on a Friday night for dinner with my family, it was busy but there were tables available to dine in. We ordered our pizza slices and then waited for our order to be ready. We waited about 10 minutes for our pizza and salad. There were cheese and chili pepper packets at the counter. A lot of customers seemed to have called in their orders and were picking up whole pizzas. Overall, we enjoyed the pizza and was reminiscent of a NY style pizza with thin crust that is foldable. Just recently learned of this pizzeria in the Kaka'ako neighborhood. Slightly obscured from view, Mad Pizza can be found down the middle thoroughfare of Keawe Plaza also hosting Down To Earth. I will preface and say, I am not a pizza lover. I hardly eat pizza cause the carb counts put me into food coma after eating it, almost every single time. I love CPK but go their for the salads and pasta dishes. Had the opportunity to purchase a mystery box from the local app "Save a Bite". If your going to try something you don't expect much of, much better to get a discount on it! Yes, pizza is pre-bagged and chilled. Perfect. Grab and go and heat a slice in the air fryer at home! Perhaps add on a topping or two. Holy moly batman. This pizza was so delicious I had to then look them up, read reviews and history of business and try to figure out why I loved this perfect crusted, bursting with flavor pizza. If there were more than 5 stars I would have given them the max, and then some. Why, you ask? On my way home from the harbour and before stopping at Down to Earth (good thing I did because I was ravenous) I remembered someone telling me about this place so once I saw the sign I made a bee line for Mad Pie!! Once I walked in I was amazed at the size of the place, and the delicious display of pizzas ‼ My eyes must have been the size of saucers because Saadiya asked if she could help me. I then asked the price range for each pizza and she told me the basic cheese pizza goes $5.00, with the more exotic slices costing a bit more. I ordered a slice of Spinach, Cheese & Garlic pizza and the size of the slice was pretty substantial. I asked about the other items on display: cannolis (believe it or not I've never had one & I will on my next visit), cookies and salads. The interior of this establishment had high ceilings and a huge kitchen area, with seating off to the right. The place was clean and very welcoming. Once I sat down (the place wasn't busy as it was before dinner time) I took a bite of my spinach pizza and thought I'd died and gone to heaven It was the BEST pizza I've had since I've lived here in Hawaii, and that's over 30 years!! This gem located in a small area with parking in a small garage across the street. You get one hour free. Parking my 4Runner was a tight fit. The cheese was a hit and the whole box was eaten, not a single slice went tk waste or into the fridge. The meat, mushroom combo pizza was a hit for my husband and son. The buffalo pizza was gone as soon as I got home. I'd like the ranch on the side next time though, as delicious and fresh as it is, it was a little over whelming as the topper. Luckily I love my crust dripped in ranch. If they had a chaser dressing it would be over for me, it's better than ranch on crust lol. I thought the tomato, spinach, garlic was mediocre (compared to Boston's pizza) but if it had red sauce as the base this would be delicious. I love novelty stuff. Got the limited Harissa Hut slice that was running for a week. (Their instagram ad got me). Smokey, complex, well-seasoned on top of an absolutely solid pie. There is a lot of crust but it was so crispy yet bouncy and overall delicious. Can't wait to see what the next drop is. Their workers are friendly and have an awesome attitude. I've been seeing this spot being mentioned on my social media a few times. I saw some videos / photos of lines out of the door which slightly deterred me from visiting for the longest time. Luckily there wasn't much of a wait, we pretty much arrived and was able to immediately place our order. Then we just waited around 15-20 minutes for our pie to be made. They have a smaller sized establishment, its located kind of within the Kakaako apartment complexes. There's around 4-5 tables (seats ~4 ppl per table). They have a few pies ready made and sold by the slice or you can order your own pie. It was pretty bustling inside, very lively environment of people munching on pizza and socializing. We got the supreme, even though the supreme had a BUNCH of toppings listed, generous is NOT the word I'd use for the amount of toppings. This was OUR fault but we did NOT realize that there was black olives on the pizza (we both hate black olives). However, since there were sooo little of each ingredient I honestly could barely taste of olives. Other than the skimpy amount of each topping on the pizza, it was pretty good. The dough and crust was really good, not too doughy but having a nice bite. It is a very flat pizza, like a new York pizza. Went back as I had been literally dreaming about the pizza since I had it last week. Walked over during my lunch break and got there around 2:30ish or so, so the place was empty. Got a slice of cheese and a slice of their special of the day...but i forget what it was called. Unfortunately the slices don't hold up as well as they should. Now, i wasn't paying full attention but I dont think they grabbed the slices from the display up front as you would expect. Instead there are a bunch of racks of premade pizzas in the back. I suspect that's where they grabbed the slice from to reheat. Slices were reheated well, they were nice, hot and crisp. Sadly, I think the pies had been sitting out too long as even tho they were crispy, they were really hard to chew. My jaw literally hurt after those two slices. If you like a chewy crust and minimal toppings you'll do well here. This reminds me of Bostons pizza where the slice is thin but large and it's more about flavor than anything else. I guess I'm used to a more commercial style where I can find the cheese and a burned crust isn't sold. Slices seem to run about $5.50 to $7 which is reasonable. It was really hot in the shop and they served warm water on top of that. It's a small water station and I suppose staff were too busy to add ice. Ambiance is messy and loud. Again it was busy so they need to shout out each customers name over the talking and background noise. Every table was dirty because the turnover was so quick on the weekend. This was not it for me but the other reviews seem positive so I'm gonna say this is about personal preference. If you're in Kaka'ako and need lunch for $6, come grab a slice and a warm water .... This is a follow-up to my visit last month, where I tried their Supreme WHOLEPIE. Others at my office liked it, and I did as well, though I thought it was a little salty. I wanted to try another kind of pizza this time, where there wouldn't be a compounding of saltiness from three kinds of meat (roni cups, house italian sausage, pancetta). I thought of the Fungo (mushroom bechamel, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, braised local mushrooms, parsley) but wanted tomato sauce. The Cheese (tomato sauce, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella) seemed a little too plain so I picked the Margherita (tomato sauce, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, EVOO, pecorino romano), thinking it would be a good compromise. I ordered via Uber Eats this time, and when given the options of light or crispy (WELL DONE), I selected crispy. I again ordered four Pistachio Choco Chip Cookies. After I placed the order, I continued to work, first monitoring the preparation then tracking the delivery person. When the food arrived, I let six of my coworkers pick up their slices. Two of them previously tried the Supreme, and the other four were new to Mad Pie. Everyone said they liked the pizza. The two who were able to compare the different kinds of pie preferred the Margherita over the Supreme, sort of saying in different ways that the Supreme was "topping heavy" whereas the Margherita had a cleaner taste, or that they could taste the pizza itself. One person who tried their pizza for the first time liked it because it was simpler, more Italian-like, than many other pizzas available here in Hawaii. My first impression, biting into it, was again that it was a bit salty, but not as much as the Supreme. I again used a Pistachio Choco Chip Cookie to clear my palate, to balance the saltiness with its sweetness. read more

I can't give it a higher rating, but I can talk about my last trip to Mad Pie. This is one the best slices I have ever had and arguably the best (if you like thin crust) on the island. The restaurant has an open kitchen, so you can watch them make pizzas. It's clean, bright and cozy. We ordered four different slices to try and a cannoli. We got the cheese $5, buffalo chicken ranch $5.50, fungo $6.25 and margherita $5. They had two different types of cannoli to choose from, pistachio or chocolate chip mocha. We went with the chocolate chip mocha $4.50. They were all delicious, but I liked the fungo (mushroom bochamel, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, local mushrooms, parsley) the best. My hubby liked the cheese (tomato sauce, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella) the best. It's made with sourdough crust and I could taste the difference. As a big pizza fan in an area where it's hard to find anything amazing, we recently got a new one in Mad Pie and it's worth a visit! The location is nearby Down to Earth in Kaka'ako, easy to walk in for dine in, or plenty of free loading zone parking spots for take out. The interior is big and modern, with the kitchen open to watch everything being made. They have a number of tables and a long bar seating, so any size group is great. At the counter you can see the pizzas made for slices. Their menu is simple with a few core pies or create your own toppings. They have some drinks for purchase. One fun thing is the house made ranch dipping sauces, get a flight of all three for $7. Pizzas may seem expensive, but they're huge and a lot goes into them. The dough is aged, so it has a special flavor. Ingredients are fresh and delicious. We've dined in and gotten takeout, and I'd recommend either. It's super thin pizza but is richly filling. The salads are also lovely, filled with toppings and great produce. It's already a popular spot, so order ahead to reduce your wait time; you can order online. I love the environment of this place, gives me a New York style pie joint but with a slight modern twist. We only got the free cheese slice during the Passport at Salts event but it was delicious. Thin but not too crispy not too soft. Looking forward to going back to try the many different pies they had. read more

I spotted Mad Pie on the new local Save A Bite app & decided after seeing their menu sporting a mushroom pizza, I had to go there to try that specifically. Parking was easy; there's a garage within the area (for the condo residents + for the retail spots below) that has the first hour free for parking. When you enter on Pohukaina St, the system scans your license plate to track entry & exit. If you stay longer than an hour, you can get parking validated by scanning the QR code inside the restaurant. You can also park at SALT as well & walk over. Mad Pie is located in the alleyway behind Down To Earth. I stopped by around 5pm on a Tuesday & it was fairly quiet. I chose to dine in, grabbed some complimentary water available upfront & my slice came out fairly quickly. It was very clean, bright, & gave the classic artsy Kakaako vibe. They have several indoor seating options & shortly after I got my food, it did start to get busier. The Fungo slice was served hot & featured a rich mushroom béchamel, mozzarella, ricotta & mushrooms. The combo created a creamy & savory mushroom pizza that was both flavorful & satisfying.
