As a born and raised New Yorker I'm always on the hunt for good pizza on Oahu-I ordered a cheese pizza- and it was "mwah"... I was disappointed since the ones coming out of the oven looked better than my reheated slice- hardly any cheese and/or tomato sauce. HOWEVER, I tried their cannoli ( the original) with pistachios and it WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD! The filling was just what it should be, not too sweet, but oh so creamy. Mannnn we showed up today right at 11 and there was already a line of people waiting to get their slice. This is a very good sign. This place is tucked, hidden behind Down to earth and gives you a sense of Brooklyn without the snob. Beautifully decorated space, great lighting, awesome decor and the customer service from the local lady today at the cash register was second to none. Slices are priced amazingly at 550-7 bucks, drinks galore, a couple cookies, cannoli's for your loved ones and I'm in love. You pick your pie, they warm it up, you eat said pie with chill hip hop in your eardrums. This place seems like a favorite spot for workers in the area and rightfully so. I sincerely hope that this spot stays open for a long while, best pizza I've had in a bit. Not too thick or thin, not too greasy, and had an awesome combination of fresh veggies and good ingredients. Mad Pie is such an awesome addition to the Kaka'ako community. Not only is the pizza unique and delicious, but the service and vibes of this pizza spot are immaculate. I LOVE their Buffalo Chicken Ranch pizza -- it's so flavorful without feeling overly oily or rich. Their Cheese Pizza is also a really good classic, and their cannolis are iconic. You have to get their Ube Cannoli! Vibe: There's a handful of tables inside and outside of the restaurant. They do takeout, but j highly recommend eating the pizza there so you can enjoy its crispy texture while it's fresh. You can see the staff making the food over the counter. Went back as I had been literally dreaming about the pizza since I had it last week. Walked over during my lunch break and got there around 2:30ish or so, so the place was empty. Got a slice of cheese and a slice of their special of the day...but i forget what it was called. Unfortunately the slices don't hold up as well as they should. Now, i wasn't paying full attention but I dont think they grabbed the slices from the display up front as you would expect. Instead there are a bunch of racks of premade pizzas in the back. I suspect that's where they grabbed the slice from to reheat. Slices were reheated well, they were nice, hot and crisp. Sadly, I think the pies had been sitting out too long as even tho they were crispy, they were really hard to chew. My jaw literally hurt after those two slices. I'll start by saying the Italian salad was excellent! Generous portion, more than enough to share among the three of us. Nice pieces of mozzarella and sopresseta, the heartiness of mixed greens with the tang of vinaigrette and pepperocini and saltiness of olives, ooh just loved it! And the pistachio cannoli super good!!! The shell is crispy not soggy and the ricotta filling so light not too sweet not too cheesy. Dont know if they made in house but loved it. Ok the pizza. The crust was perfect, the way a pizza should be unlike those chains...it was thin and it had a nice fresh crisp and chew to it. This is a follow-up to my visit last month, where I tried their Supreme WHOLEPIE. Others at my office liked it, and I did as well, though I thought it was a little salty. I wanted to try another kind of pizza this time, where there wouldn't be a compounding of saltiness from three kinds of meat (roni cups, house italian sausage, pancetta). I thought of the Fungo (mushroom bechamel, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, braised local mushrooms, parsley) but wanted tomato sauce. The Cheese (tomato sauce, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella) seemed a little too plain so I picked the Margherita (tomato sauce, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, EVOO, pecorino romano), thinking it would be a good compromise. I ordered via Uber Eats this time, and when given the options of light or crispy (WELL DONE), I selected crispy. I again ordered four Pistachio Choco Chip Cookies. After I placed the order, I continued to work, first monitoring the preparation then tracking the delivery person. When the food arrived, I let six of my coworkers pick up their slices. Two of them previously tried the Supreme, and the other four were new to Mad Pie. Everyone said they liked the pizza. The two who were able to compare the different kinds of pie preferred the Margherita over the Supreme, sort of saying in different ways that the Supreme was "topping heavy" whereas the Margherita had a cleaner taste, or that they could taste the pizza itself. One person who tried their pizza for the first time liked it because it was simpler, more Italian-like, than many other pizzas available here in Hawaii. My first impression, biting into it, was again that it was a bit salty, but not as much as the Supreme. The quickest way to make me run is to offer pizza awards. A few friends and I decided to check out Mad Pie after a lil run in the neighborhood and dare I say, I'd happily run more often if we get Mad Pie afterwards. So many choices to choose from, I decided to try the special slice of the week (lobster) and a slice of their buffalo chicken ranch. They've got some seating inside and 6 of us managed to squeeze into a little corner nook/booth. Our pizzas came out pretty quickly and I'll just say these boys were hefty!! They don't skimp on the toppings and I absolutely love the crust. Of the two, my favorite would have to be the buffalo chicken ranch. NY style pizza outside of NYC?! Mad Pie is probably the closest NY style pizza you can find in Honolulu. I got a tip on the best time to visit without having a long wait, so Yelp BFF and I strolled Kakaako to test it out. We got 3 slices, 2 margaritas and 1 pepperoni. The crust is crispy, yet chewy. You can fold the pizza and it will hold. There's a thin layer of sauce and cheese, but toppings are piled on. My favorite has to be the pepperoni. It's crispy with a hint of spice. Maybe I missed it, but I wish there was some pepper flakes and dried oregano to sprinkle on top. But you can't get any better at $5 (ish) a slice. Definitely have to be back to try the other pizzas. For my 2000th review I'm going to Yelp about Mad Pie. Yes, it's that good. Yes, the hubby and I eat a lot of pizza and this is one of the best on the island. This pizza shop is tiny and located in the same area as Down to Earth in Kakaako. They have four or five tables on the inside with eight counter seats. The restaurant has an open kitchen, so you can watch them make pizzas. It's clean, bright and cozy. We ordered four different slices to try and a cannoli. We got the cheese $5, buffalo chicken ranch $5.50, fungo $6.25 and margherita $5. They had two different types of cannoli to choose from, pistachio or chocolate chip mocha. We went with the chocolate chip mocha $4.50. They were all delicious, but I liked the fungo (mushroom bochamel, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, local mushrooms, parsley) the best. Mad pie is legendary. I saw on yelp this is supposed to be #1 in Hawaii and it's right down the street from me?! So I just picked up two pies 33 bucks a piece. Staff was very friendly and professional very clean high end pizza place. "No temporary parking had to risk it with the no parking area to pick them up." The taste was 10/10 the best pizza I have ever had by far. JJ dolens 6/10 and cpk 5/10 just got crushed. As a big pizza fan in an area where it's hard to find anything amazing, we recently got a new one in Mad Pie and it's worth a visit! The location is nearby Down to Earth in Kaka'ako, easy to walk in for dine in, or plenty of free loading zone parking spots for take out. The interior is big and modern, with the kitchen open to watch everything being made. They have a number of tables and a long bar seating, so any size group is great. At the counter you can see the pizzas made for slices. Their menu is simple with a few core pies or create your own toppings. They have some drinks for purchase. One fun thing is the house made ranch dipping sauces, get a flight of all three for $7. Pizzas may seem expensive, but they're huge and a lot goes into them. The dough is aged, so it has a special flavor. Ingredients are fresh and delicious. We've dined in and gotten takeout, and I'd recommend either. It's super thin pizza but is richly filling. The salads are also lovely, filled with toppings and great produce. It's already a popular spot, so order ahead to reduce your wait time; you can order online. Good grab and go pizza joint! Stopped in after class at the Waterfront Plaza and walked over. We were greeted upon entering. I was shocked to see the indoor tables all occupied. Finally tried this place out after hearing it was worth checking out from a few folks and I recommend checking it out. My friend and I both got the fungo one and I got the buffalo chicken and she got the clam one to share. All the slices were very flavorful but wasn't a huge fan of the clam one. There was one option that was only offered as a whole pizza so I wasn't able to try it but hope to another time. It didn't take too long for the pizza to come out. I was very happy that the pizza was actually warm cause I thought maybe they would take a slice from the display. There was a good amount of tables and bar seating for people to enjoy their pizza there but there were a good amount of people who were ordering boxes to go. Fun new pizza place in Kakaako. Vibe here is good and this is a new top 10 Tinder date spot in town! Here's a breakdown: Pizza (whole pie) - 4 stars for being fresh and tasty. However, being a very wide individual, I wish they had a mega toppings pizza option. Oink! Service - 5 stars plus. All workers are excellent! Atmosphere - 5 stars for having seating inside and self service water for dining in. 1 star for the little fruit flies that flock to the glass in front of the pizza. This is the main reason I didn't order by the slice. They really should find a way to deal with this. I'm not super sensitive about this kind of thing, but even I found it gross. Experience- 5 stars for a fun night of pizza, local sodas, and cannoli desserts. I've had mushroom pizza somewhere else in Honolulu and I prefer that much more than the one here. I don't know maybe I picked the wrong flavor? So after I finished the pizza part, I tried the crust. Meh. It lacked flavor, maybe needed more salt and a bit of sugar in the dough? I dunno I'm not a pie maker. There aren't many pizza crusts that I love so much to eat though (there are but rare), and this wasn't one of the spots. As for the lilikoi panna cotta, it's quite a let down. The crumbs or whatever they put on top was not crispy or crunch at all. It's stale. I dumbed the toppings out to get to the custard part. It didn't have much creamy flavor, didn't make me want more, I also didn't finish it. Maybe my hopes were too high. Such a perfect addition to the neighborhood. This is an easy walk from my office and well worth the steps! We arrived for early dinner so it wasn't crowded. The service is friendly and the cook time is reasonable for a whole pizza. We ordered the pepperoni and asked for the box to go as we could only finish half :) Dining there is clean. They offer plates, forks, knives, and napkins. Additionally they have packets of cheese and pepper flakes if you want added flavor. While they have chilled beverages available for purchase, they also offer cups for water. Our thin crust pizza was tasty! Loved the crust for flavor and texture. After hearing all the buzz I finally made it down here thank you to Donna O and Jackie K as I got here as soon as they open which I do recommend if you're to find a seat to enjoy your slices, yup I have the complete joy to have two slices and you can decided which one just by looking at them as the menu is a visual display of each type and with five choices to choose from it was quite easy as we all love mushrooms lol! "Fungo" is exactly that with béchamel sauce along with fresh mozzarella and ricotta and the other "Supreme" has tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, Italian sausage, red onion, olive and mushrooms that I can see but am sure there's quite a bit more going on here a it was just so delicious. I've also learned that it's made with sourdough that gave it such flavor though know that if you're ordering by the slice it's being reheated but can imagine having it fresh would be even better. What's even better is dessert the first is their cookie with pistachio and chocolate chip has a touch of salt bringing this soft cookie amazing flavor, Cannolis are made to order where you're able to have with chocolate or what I chose is pistachio and yes there's another...panna cotta, this luxious stunning treat is topped with local mandarin and calamansi a bit on the tart side is simply divine. Now we're talking! Whole pies are now available. What a difference having a fresh pie versus a reheated slice makes. You can taste the sourdough crust. The pepperoni cups are filled with oily goodness. You can taste the sweet tomatoes, briny olives, smell the floral aroma and feel the warming heat from the Calabria chili oil that top the "supreme". Not sure if this is by design or an accident but the base dough of the pizza has been thinned out. There's less crust. Pick the slice up and it flops over unless you do the NYC fold. PERFECT! The closer crust to sauce ratio means it is no longer perceived as dry. Having more dough at the untopped edges allows it to puff and blister. Yes, there is still no large menu all good, they have samples of everything on offer in the front. No, they do not take phone orders or online orders but the friendly staff will send you a text when your pie is done. Plenty of parking in the Keauhou Public Parking Lot (behind Down to Earth). Free without validation for one hour. Reasonably priced, the huge supreme, $35. It doesn't best itself (Fatto a Mano) but now, it's easy to say, this is the best NYC pizza on Island if you order the whole pie. read more

We saw the hype on social media and decided to come here! Staff is very friendly and fresh pizza came out fast! The atmosphere is nice and interior looks very hip and clean! We ordered a whole pizza and did half pepperoni half margarita! I personally loved the margarita, the pizza sauce wasn't super acidic nor sweet. This is my personal bias, but I wish there was more basil just because it adds a nice refreshing/spiced note to the pizza. I also loved the dough, it held its shape when being folded in half and it was crispy! However, I wasn't a huge fan of the pepperoni, it was a little too salty and oily for my liking. On another note, something that was a little off putting to me was the fact that there was a lot of fruit flies flying near the display. I honestly wanted to go back the next day for another slice, but they had already changed the special. One of the best parts is that you can order by the slice! Excellent new New York style pizza place in Kakaako near Down to Earth. I chose pick up using the Toast app since I didn't see a phone number listed yet. Also there's not a ton of seating so I decided to take it home. Hawaiʻi is not known for its great pizza and there's somewhat limited options compared to other bigger cities. Because of that I was excited to try something new and hoping for a new regular spot. We ordered two whole pies for four people and could've done with just one because the slices are huge! I was almost in shock when we went to pick up the boxes, the size is very generous and takes up a full plate. At first I thought $31 was pricey for a whole pie but honestly for Kakaako and the size it was very reasonable. The buffalo chicken ranch (no chicken on half for the vegetarians) was excellent. The ranch gave it a nice kick the onions were thin and cooked enough not to leave a raw bad taste in your mouth. The plain cheese was also solid. The crust was fine, could've been softer and with more flavor but not complaining either. Sometimes crust is so good I eat the whole thing, but didn't for this one. I did free parking on the Down to Earth garage, they have validation for dine-in or it's free for pick up. My order was ready on time (30 minutes from submission time) and service was quick and friendly. Would definitely come back in to try a single slice of the different varieties. They offer both reds and whites, and even have desserts! Mad Pie had cannolis when I visited. I will be back to try more slices and buy pies! I hope they have a spinach garlic slice soon! read more

We are so happy that Fatto Mano came to our Kakaako! But... he didn't come with his buddy brick oven.... His pizza at Kakaako is more like NY style??!! $5 large slice of pizza is reasonable so should not have any complaints but the crust isn't special anymore. Hmm... I loved his pizza at farmers market more. read more

The best and I mean the best slice and one of the best foods I had over all in Hawaii. Which I think is tough to match up to all the fresh seafood and culture that the island brings. When a slice of classic goodness pulls through like that it's is something to go out of your way for I think. Along with the good vibes from their staff embodying the welcoming spirit of Hawaii. And being in Honolulu makes it pretty accessible and not to hard to add to the itinerary! read more

I love Mad Pie! I took my friend that was visiting from Hilo here on the second week after the grand opening. We arrived around 6pm and there was a line out the door but it was moving and not ridonk. The owner James happened to be at the door, so I struck up conversation since I didn't know much about his pizzas. It's so great when people are so successful at farmers markets that they can open a brick and mortar restaurant! I ordered a slice of Pepperoni Playboy and Fungo (they are giant slices) with a side of Kimchi Ranch dipping sauce (highly recommend!) and my total was $17ish, which I think is reasonable. I have quite the appetite nowadays since I work out a lot, and this was a substantial meal. The two choices I made were phenomenal, and I absolutely loved dipping the yummy sourdough crust into the Kimchi Ranch sauce (and slathering my pizza with it!). I don't typically like pizza crust, but this one is special for sure! I would love to return to try the Buffalo Chicken Ranch pizza. They also had Margherita and Cheese pizzas. My friend gave me a generous piece of his pistachio cookie and that was yummy as well. We ate at the counter seating that overlooks the pizza-making magic. It was so cute that one of the pizza prep guys was watching my reaction as I took my first bite of my pizza! We got to chat more with owner James again. Brownie points for having rock solid branding. I so want a t-shirt and stickers! Their Hedley & Bennett aprons are fire as well. Colors are all on point. As for parking, I actually didn't find parking in the SALT lot (we were going to migrate there later) because it was completely full. I scored street parking in the area (free from 6pm). read more

Delicious pizza! I don't crave pizza much but Mad Pie has me wanting more! We got there shortly after opening hours and they had a variety of flavors to choose from displayed. We ordered three different flavors by the slice of - Fungo, Buffalo Chicken Ranch and Margherita. There are daily special flavors and vegan options as well. Their slices were pretty big sized and we asked to cut each slice in half. Their pizza is sourdough based so its thin and crispy, just how I like it! Didn't make me feel so bloated like other pizzas do. There are three ranch sauces made in house and we decided to go with the flight of all three. My favorite was the jalapeno lime. They also offer a self serve station for water. Inside there are tables and counter seating areas where you can see the workers preparing the pizzas. Everyone there is friendly. Parking is inside Keauhou Lane (entrance by Down to Earth) or street parking. QR code inside on their wall to validate parking for free first hour. read more
