It's been a while since I've eaten at Diners. I wanted hamburger steak but decided to eat something healthier. I got the furikake ahi and it was good not dry. I also got the furikake salmon, chicken katsu and chicken katsu curry. The only thing was our took a long time cuz it was busy (on a Friday night) and there was only one person in the front and one person doing the cooking. But we didn't mind the wait. The food was good and we'll go back next time to try other things.
This morning stopped to have a quick breakfast at the old Diners in Kalihi . It's now called Upscale Hawaii . It's funny the new name it's the same old Diners . Maybe the menu change a little but same ordering counter limited tables with the cement seating like I remembered over 20years ago lol . I had their breakfast special not bad @ $9.95 2 eggs, rice, choice of meats , I decided on Vienna sausage and they gave 7 pieces very generous I've been to places they either gave between 4-5 . Service was like usual pretty slow the lady at the counter was getting the phone orders and the live customers orders mix up . So it took awhile with only 2 customers in front of me . Support local when possible
First review of 2026, review way over due lol been here a bunch of times already. Upscale Hawaii, open 24-7, in the heart of kalihi, with the bomb ahi katsu and other kine local kine grindz??? No can go wrong wit that. My favorites from here is the Wingdings and ahi katsu. We come here every so often when we get off work late. Perfect, cuz not much places open late.. so u know what I mean... diners it is lol They are located next to Kapālama post office, right on king street, no can miss it. They have couple outdoor seating tables, but I would just take out and bring home to eat and pig out in the comfort of my own home lol If there's anything they could improve on would be customer service. The bunch of times I went was always different personality. Nice, and then just the norm, "how can I help you?".. maybe a little more enthusiasm lol who am i kidding, if I had to work overnight, I'd be grouchy AF or if I had to work PM periodt lol... no thanks. Lol.. nah but the last visit, was one guy, and he was on his phone for a sec, as I was in front ready to order. Everybody knows, in customer service, customers always come first. Lol. Would be nice if they opened up indoor seating? Maybe?! No but other than that, you gotta have the diners upscale menu! Go check em out everybody!
I tried their Special Bruddah Moco - and it's special alright...not special ed...but spashal. Aurite. So, the Special Bruddah Moco consists of two eggs ( your choice of how they're cooked ) , brown gravy, on a bed of rice ( options there as well). The special: Palm Corned Beef. Quite good. Ordered via the Beluga app. $13 for a solid breakfast. Open 24 hours; the negative being you have homeless derelicts. This morning, there was a typical deranged individual talking/arguing ( to/with its invisible enemies) and changing clothes Parking stalls in an L-shape around the perimeter of the former Diners..
Arrived late and was so grateful to find a local food spot that was serving up the grinds. We got grilled ahi steak ($16.95) and fried poke ($8.50). The online interface was easy to navigate when placing this order. The portion of the fried poke was tiny but ample. We enjoyed our pricey meal and would definitely visit again.
Two things to ask before you decide on coming here. Do you want a delicious meal? Do you want prompt service? This checks off both on my list. If you're a person that prefers casual, and ONO food come here! That's just the food and speedy kitchen service! This restaurant is also 24 hours! Pro tip, call ahead to have your food even quicker! Lastly, if you post food pics for the gram... look no further!
When we got here, we were second in line. By the time it was our turn, it took awhile before the cashier took our over. Waited for a bit perhaps 10 minutes to order just a cheeseburger. Got it within 5 minutes and it's cold. Took one bite and there's a weird aftertaste.
I was influenced from tiktok and also a friend of mine that lived in the area about this place after i worked and considering it was late, it hit the spot 100/10! the service was pretty good considering a lot of people were there. I ordered the kalbi and garlic chicken mix plate and let me tell you. it was BOMB! the kalbi was cooked perfectly and the garlic chicken was crunchy and had AMAZING flavor! this photo was taken my first time but when i went the second time, i got the garlic chicken again but with the meat jun! the meat jun was sooo ono! it was cooked perfectly and the sauce was also really good. if im ever in town late, definitely going again!
First off- cannot beat 24 hours in Hawaii. So let's give Diners that. I used to come to upscale way back when it was a food truck. The quality, portions and flavor never missed. Glad that they became apart of diners because whenever we come we're able to get something for the kids too. And the fact that everything's pretty much served all day long makes best for midnight cravings or drunk night eats. Love it.
Open 24/7. Sometimes they can get real busy so I ordered and paid online. Arrived at the time is said the order would be ready but for some reason the order wasn't even made yet, didn't have to wait too long because we were the only ones there. Love the signature ahi with bomb sauce and the ahi katsu plate. Whenever we go late night we also get the tuna melt and chowder.

They're not winning any speed records here, and they're very upfront about it. there's literally a sign at the window that says, "We are not fast food." They need their time. My garlic salmon and ahi katsu roll took a solid half-hour and they were not busy at all. So plan accordingly. Now, the food? Totally worth the wait. The portions are huge, like it could feed two people huge and everything is cooked to perfection. The garlic salmon is a personal favorite, especially because they load it up with whole garlic cloves. They also make asparagus here so well. I also tried the ahi katsu roll for the first time. Loved the texture but it's a bit on the dry side, the sauce it comes with? Absolute game changer. Super tasty overall. Sketchy vibes aside, the food here is a delicious win, just don't expect to be in and out quickly if you don't order ahead, and maybe steer clear of the outdoor seating unless you're feeling adventurous.
If you're looking for some delicious late night comfort eats, Upscale will deliver. This place is open 24 hours so however and whenever your stomach leads you here, a gluttonous endeavor awaits. My late evening ended up here but I can see how I can enjoy this place any time of day. I had to try the staple Loco Moco and it's as solid as any I've ever had. With a thick hamburger patty, egg and tasty gravy, there was so much flavor packed in every bite. Another superb highlight are the fried chicken wings. Crispy, juicy and not overly salted. There is plenty of parking and only outdoor table seating. I didn't wait long for my order s rest assured, your cravings can be curbed as efficiently and quickly as possible. The ambiance is very casual; serving up a delicious and bountiful menu is what they strive (and succeed) to do. I'll need to come back and get my fill on other menu items on my next visit to Oahu.
I loved this place during my first trip to Oahu and now I'm back again so here I am. I ordered the garlic ribeye 12 oz plate. My steak was cooked perfectly mid rare. The portion sizes are also pretty solid. It kept me satisfied. The food came out pretty quick which I was surprised about considering how many people were in front of me. There are a few tables outside that are available if you didn't want to take it to go. This is a spot that I will always stop by in Oahu. I also love that they are open 24/hrs. Till next time! I ate here on a Sunday early morning. Rather I should say that I ordered my plate lunch and took it home. There are tables and bench style seats off to the side of the restaurant. They were all taken by what looks like an after party crowd. Maybe they just came from dancing or just drinking in a bar. They were loud and a bit intoxicated. Ok back to what you're really here for. The food. I ordered the furikake ahi. It comes with mixed greens and asparagus. There also is some "bomb sauce". It's nice and creamy with a slight hint of heat. The furikake ahi was nicely prepared. It wasn't overcooked. It was done almost perfect. I like to see some rawness in the middle but it was close. It was really good and I was quite surprised. The asparagus too was really good. It wasn't overcooked where it's mushy or undercooked where it's hard. Prepared perfectly. I'm not a veggie person but the dressing was really good. Not exactly sure what type of dressing it was but it came with it. So no Thousand Island, Ranch, French, Italian or your Oil and Vinegar. It was really good. I just wish they gave a little more. Overall it was a really good and satisfying meal. It compares well with a restaurant like Nicos. Just not the same atmosphere and you're probably going to wanna take it home to eat. Lots of parking in the very early morning as every place else is closed. They are open 24 hours. A rarity after covid came and went. So if you're looking for someplace open late night or early morning serving a good furikake ahi this is your place. Give them a try. It's worth the price at under $20. There are many other offerings to choose from and will probably try something else from here. They also do offer a mixed plate where you can have two choices off their regular menu board. Sorry I didn't take pictures of the menu. Maybe next time I'm here. The person that took my order was really nice. She was an elderly Filipina. If you're hungry and want to satisfy some local comfort cravings, stop by Diner's by Upscale Hawaii in Kalihi. The food is so good and tender, portions are big and definitely worth the price. Little overdue of a review but here we go lol.. Diners has been a staple for my family & I , and I'm sure many other families on island for YEARS. Our family's go to was always Cheeseburger and yellow sauce with fries! As time and society evolved , so did Diners, since they became "Upscale" and added more things to their menu. I have tried their Grilled lobster plate more than once from their Upscale menu in the past and I think during that time it was $15? Not sure if it's still that price, but for that price it was a winner! Lobster + salad and rice ? What more can you ask for since that's basically a steal in today's economy. Anyway , I was in the area recently and decided on diners for dinner. I was really craving ahi katsu, unfortunately my go to spot was already closed since I decided on dinner a little after 8pm ish? So I thought .. well diners has ahi katsu supposedly .. why not give it a try. I wasn't expecting much since it was Diner's BUT needless to say.. their ahi katsu is DELICIOUS. Seasoned well and cooked to perfection! I love the sauce they drizzle on the katsu. I should've asked for extra sauce on the side had I known it was gonna be yummy! But that's something to keep note of on my next visit in the future. I definitely would order this plate again! And continue to adventure out on their menu lol. A tip to keep in mind : they do have signs posted by their windows to be patient when ordering because they do take a bit to make and give you your order since they are always short staffed. And there's normally alot of people waiting or ordering since lots come to this establishment right after work or in between work or just simply there for a bite to grab. So prepare to wait .. but sometimes you can be lucky where it doesn't take as long. It does truly depend on time and the day I guess. Also one last thing, my personal opinion , I think Diners is worth grabbing food from. Whether you're hungry , in the area or wanting to grind. Some people have mixed reviews or bad experiences but me personally , I always had a good outcome. Oh also before I forget their steak is delicious too (LOL) , never ordered it for myself but I shared some of it with one of my relatives who ordered their steak before. Breakfast after fasting... When is the best time to come here...7 in da morning as I've never seen it so empty which was nice to have the parking of your choice and just walk up to order. After a morning blood test before work I was looking for a place to have breakfast and Upscale came to mind as it has been on my radar and which so many choices that made you second guess your intent of coming here in the first place as ordering a poke bowl almost came to mind lol! Sunshine Platter was it and at $8.95 for the basic breakfast plate is an amazing price! Though I'm a basic when it comes to the morning meal as scrambled, Portuguese sausage though hash browns would've been my first love it comes with rice and lots of it to satisfy any hungry bellies. Lots of free parking makes it any easy place to grab whatever you're craving as this local fave has a menu that many will enjoy. Thank you! read more

The Nana at the counter was very friendly and she had a nice smile when she told me that they ran out of eggs at 06:45 am!!! Oh well!!! Plenty of other menu items to choose from (I got the Kalua Pork/Lau Lau combo). The pictures of their garlic steak items look so good I need to come back again. This used to be Diners Drive Inn in my early teen memories and needs a refresh ASAP. However, it would then lose its character and its essence. So, just a little refresh would be good like the sidewalk and maybe a new coat of paint. Unfortunately, there was a local there who was smoking and loitering that made it uncomfortable, but, that's to be expected. There is no real solution for that at this time. It felt like home of yesteryears. read more

good late night place to go to with no worries of hours since it's a 24/7 place. Tried the ahi katsu roll before (super good!) and came back to try another dish; ahi steak w bomb sauce. Needless to say, it hasn't disappointed me and would come here for a quick bite again. Garlic cloves were cooked to softness and ahi steak w the sauce was yummy. read more
Diner's has been around for years. Went pass one evening & decided to try their Roast Pork plate, remembering how good it was back in the day having moved to the mainland & now returning after 40 yrs. My wife ordered a chili dog on the bun, She Said the chili tasted good , by the whole dog was cold. Strike one! I liked that the Roast Pork was smothered in brown gravy which made the white rice so much better. The meat was to fatty! Strike two! Will not go back, better drive inns close by! Disappointed old time customer. read more
TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE!!!! I spent close to $55 on food, drove all the way home only to find out that the rice in our plates wasn't cooked! & their policy? My bf and I went there around 8:15pm. There were no lines. We ordered 2 cheese burgers, onion rings, 1 chicken cuttlet and gravy, and a garlic salmon and asparagus. Once the food came out, we ate the cheese burger and onion rings right away. The onion rings weren't crispy, and it was smushed in the bag. The breading came off the onions easily. The cheese burger was more bread then meat. All we could taste is ketchup and bread. We rate both 1 out of 5. We were worried that the plates weren't going to be good since the basic cheese burger and onion rings weren't. Thank goodness the plate were actually decent. The chicken cuttlet and gravy was flavorful. It came with 2 piece of chicken, rice, mac salad, and gravy. There could have been more gravy. I hate when place only put gravy at the top. We need it at every layer; on top the rice before you put the chicken down, on top the first piece of chicken, and then all on the top. And the mac salad was mid. Now the garlic salmon with asparagus. It was a small piece of salmon on top of rice, and toss greens. The garlic salmon had flavor and the garlic butter seeped into the rice making it taste great. There was furikake on the rice, the asparagus was good, and the salad dressing tasted good. Only problem I had was the salmon was way too small for the price you're paying. I would have loved a bigger piece. Overall, I don't think we will be back. Maybe if we were in the area and its too late to get food from anywhere else. Thought it was closed because Yelp has it closed by its old name. Still open and 24 hours. Food is freshly made, at least the katsu and the kalbi is 2 big pieces for an extra $3.50. Quick, easy, 'ono, plentiful and always open. Diners a.k.a. upscale will be my late night go-to from now on. read more
Oh the memories. This used to be my go to late night spot when I used to love right up the road. Since moving away, haven't been back in ages. The menu has changed slightly with the addt "upscale" offerings. They still have that hand written board with all the typical local plate lunch offerings. The food won't BLOW you away, however good homey local food for a decent price. Prices have risen since my hey day, but in line with most late lunch spots. Today's order: pork adobo. Great adobo flavor, but some of my pieces were a bit dry and wish I had more adobo sauce. I'll prob be back if I am ever in the area looking for a late night craving. read more
Actually called Diner's by Upscale Hawaii. Pleasantly surprised with this pick-up option... open 24hrs, large menu, reasonably priced and super tasty food. Wished they opened up that room to dine-in because current tile table/benches were pretty dirty and unkempt. Not much places open so this was a tasty discovery when hungry after a late night. read more

Just wolfed down a Hamburger Curry plate! It was so ono, similar to how my mom used to make it. I've been to this Diners before, but in my honest opinion, the food has improved significantly. The portions are amazing for the price. The service is very welcoming. read more
Diners is the place I go when I am craving a cheeseburger and saimin at 0600, before work. Full menu including daily specials is available at 0600. Need to be sure to look at ALL the papers on the window as they may have added or removed an item. Very reasonable prices. Cheeseburger combo is $10. Burger, fries and a drink. The burger is not a thin piece of cardboard and the bag of thick fries is enormous. The order and expediting counters are kept clean by the cashiers. It makes me feel good knowing the staff is conscientious! I feel valued as a customer every time! read more

Quick fast casual establishment located in kalihi. Frequently come here for their upscale menu. We ordered their signature ahi with bomb sauce and garlic ribeye. Placed the order over the phone and it was ready on arrival. I asked for my steak medium as it's kind of a hit or miss on the cook. Definitely had some times with really really rare streak. However, this time everything was cooked to perfection. Love that they're open 24/7, have parking, and have a large selection. read more

After a night of karaoke, finding a late night food spot isn't as easy as you would think. But thank goodness this spot stays open 24/7. Quite a few people ahead of us which gave us time to figure out what to order. So many choices. There's a few outdoor tables outside. You order through the walk up windows. The workers were friendly and patient. As few of them working on a late night, totally understandable it would be a while to get our order. I'd rather wait for my food to be fully cooked rather than quick and undercooked. I ordered myself a ny steak and eggs while the rest of my party ordered short ribs, Hawaiian combo, and chicken katsu. Prices were reasonable. Food is pretty decent. They were large portions. Very filling and plenty leftovers for the morning. Would come back to try other dishes. read more

I ordered the side of Ahi Katsu roll which was soo goood !!!!!! But the Shoyu chicken plate was not so good because the chicken was super dry and didnt have enough sauce in the plate and was marinated. I was kinda disappointed. My bf ordered the Lau lau plate he said it was good! Over all the service was good we tipped them and the Ambiance is good. read more

My go to diner after 2am activities. If you know you know! Parking has lots of stalls in the area. You have to get their Garlic Steak, the BOMB! Customer service is great and wait time is not that long either. I would save this restaurant for your late night go to's. Ambiance is casual. read more

Definitely try this place if you're in the Kalihi area on King Street. I just suggest just going during the day time for safety reasons. Even during the day, I'm alert to my surroundings cause it's a just a counter you order from and wait on benches outside. There's enough parking to make an order, get it, and be on your way. My go to plate is the Garlic Ahi Steak with Asparagus for $14.99 and it never disappoints. The size of the ahi steak is kind of hit or miss sometimes though, but this time was a hit. It's seasoned perfectly and the touch of that garlic confit just makes it a winner. You won't find another garlic ahi dish like this at a plate lunch plate, and if you do please let me know! How can someone overcook the pork and have undercooked cabbage? Everything was just so DRY and Disappointing! Even more so because it was less busy than usual. Do yourself a favor and go to McDonalds for a late night treat instead . read more
