There's sure is something brewing here in Kalihi! What a great place to unwind you day than at Broken Boundary located right along the river behind Kapalama Shopping Center deep in the industrial area as the only signage is a "Brewery" flag flying curbside which is all you need to know that you're there. Though I was confused once I got there as I see some logo of Broken Boundary glasses but Kalihi Beer Merchandise it seems like they rebranded and if it still gives us wonderful sips it's cheers to a brewtiful craft. This spacious warehouse layout is nice you can see the dominate brewing barrels take up majority of the space on one side while on the flip side is an area where they do some cooking demonstration and more interesting events are brewing up. Which doesn't leave much seating as you imagined with a couple of tvs though we came at slow time I assumed as there was just a handful of others there I imagined it was more friends or regulars hanging out. Though a small but a decent lunch vibe menu we came here just for that with a nice selection of sandwiches, some small street tacos, quesadilla and even a salad and after a few errands we just was hungry and getting around Kalihi is a challenge with so many detours staying close was our option and decided to give them a peek. It was the Turkey Pesto Sandwich loaded with all they usually yummy fixings (turkey, provolone, arugula, tomato, pesto) on sliced sourdough bread toasted on a panini press which comes with kettle chips or arugula salad for +$2 and what a great sandwich would definitely have it again! Taco was definitely a craving I had to try...$4 each felt quite pricy but it was stuffed to the point as much as the tortilla will hold there are three choice (Chicken, Carne Asada and Poblano Peppers) which I got all three of course and to no surprise the Poblano Peppers was my favorite! Pepper just made it all work though the mushrooms and onions played a major supporting role, just love the vibe here it's super chill taking away all my adulting bleh reminding me to not worry beer happy. Thank you!

    Yummy!!

Of course everyone says "Kalihi?!" Love this place! There is a little parking lot but there is street parking. Freshest beer ever! We also had their quesadillas and cheesy bread! Friendly staff and great service. Love the ambiance inside - ample room for business or social gatherings. Lots of networking and cooking demos here! Check it out!

I can see why Broken Boundary wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. It's located in an open, spacious warehouse setting with little (or no?) air conditioning, a few tables, a few stools, and a couple tv's. It very much emits the "hanging with best buds in the garage" kind of vibes, but in the best kind of way. If Broken Boundary is anything, it's honest. They make interesting styles of beer which I found incredibly satiating. If you're looking for aesthetic and ambiance, this place is not for you. If you're looking for a quick bite and cold beer, Broken Boundary more than satiates. I was a big fan of the pulled pork sliders. Anything on a Hawaiian sweet roll tickles my fancy. I'm not sure I'd have ended up here if it weren't for the nearby Bishop Museum. We walked from the museum, but we could have easily found street parking at the brewery. The brewery also shares space with a homebrew supplier, including kombucha products, if you're into that sort of thing. The staff was very laid back, and service was not overwhelmingly great the bartender was very friendly.

Very average brewery. Warehouse style spot that serves up a large menu of beer (heavy IPA, pilsners, dark beers) and decent food menu. Limited food menu and served picnic style but the roasted pulled pork sliders (weekend special) were delicious. Smaller spot that can seat a group no larger than 4-6 people and merch is available. Local vibes / spot.

Great for a fun night with a small group. We went with a group of 4 at 5pm and got seats right away, but the place was full by 5:30. I did street parking, but it sounds like they have a few reserved spots at the building (just don't leave any valuables in the car). The beer selection was nice (you can get flights of 4 and most beers have the flight price listed). Don't forget to ask for specials. They have a QR menu, but I recommend the poblano & mushroom quesadilla.

Found this local brewery, a little hidden but beer was good. We were visitors and definitely stood out from the locals but we always enjoy local breweries.

Booze it up with @brokenboundary808 If you're looking for a place in the heart of Kalihi to just relax after a long and busy day and have a cold one, @brokenboundary808 is the place for you! With their in-house brewed beers and IPAs, you're in for a treat. Here my boyfriend ordered a flights of IPAs. I forgot the names but he liked them all if that say anything LOL. They also brew all their IPAs in house so you're literally dinning inside of a brewery. Thought that was pretty awesome because the last place you think a brewery existed was in Kalihi. Not only that, they started serving food and their newest item is this smashed burger that comes with garlic fries (super good btw!!) You can even order some quesadillas for the perfect pairing with a cold one. Check out @brokenboundary808 with ample street parking, a great menu, and the perfect place to pau hana!

Industrial area, local crowd, no AC so drink up. It's a nice local spot that brews its own. Used to be broken boundaries. Nice part is they also have food.

Broken Boundary Brewery is a great local brewery located in Kalihi and so worth the trip. Not as busy as Beerworks or Aloha Beer Co but has just as good beer.. This is a simple place with a nice chill vibe. The backdrop is the tanks full of beer and brewing equipment. They have seats at the bar and a number of tables for groups. This local business needs our support to help keep them in business. The place is a hidden gem with some really good beers. I enjoyed the Saison, Kolsch, Monkeypod Stout as well as the IPA. You can take beer to go as well, just check the fridge for what you like or bring a growler. I really enjoy the food. I have had the Smash Burger and Fries, Carnitas Taco and the Carne Asada Taco, all excellent and reasonable prices. I usually just walk but they have a parking lot and looks like lots of street parking. Service is excellent and the folks are passionate and enjoy what they do. If you want to know about beer, they will gladly tell you about the process. Come out and try this local brewery, you'll definitely be hooked.

Fantastic beers! 4oz portions available. Really great tasting shoestring fries!!!!!! Great service! A+++++++++ Going back for sure! Thanks Rod U!!!!!

Beer flight that included Lilikoi Cider, ginger beer and Kolsch
    Selene S.

What a great brewery! I decided to try their flight and try 4 of their best flavors. Lilikoi cider was a 10/10, mango beer was a 10/10, the ginger beer was 7/10 (but that's my personal taste) it just reminded me of kombucha, and the Kolsch was good 9.5/10. Service: 10/10 KC was super attentive of all his customers, personable and interacted with everyone. He always made sure to check in and gave a few recommendations. Food: they had smash burger that day and let me tell you! Best burger ever 10/10, it also had jelly and it was delicious! Amazing brewery and service, definitely earned a regular here!

Excellent brewery nestled in the mean streets of Kalihi. This place is tucked in to a space in the industrial area near the canal. Good spot for pau hana with lots of street parking. I stopped by on a Friday afternoon after work for a few beers and some grinds. The brewed beer is really good here. My favorite was the monkeypod stout which is a dark beer with lots of flavor and character. They have a 4oz glass option which is very good if you want to try various different brews in a visit. The food menu is limited, but very good. We had the quesadilla and lots of tacos. My favorite were the carne asada and the carnitas. The former comes with guacamole and the latter comes with cilantro. If both had both of those, it would elevate the taste quite a bit. They also had fries on the menu, but I didn't try those. They also had a special adobo flavor for the tacos, but it was sold out for the day. Great spot to try for some superb craft beer and Mexican bites.

    32oz Crowler to go.
    Rod U.

Through a non descript door on the side of a warehouse, polished concrete floors, reclaimed wooden tables, counters and bar top, amidst the shining stainless steel tanks, sits an amazing dispensary (not weed) of locally brewed, unfiltered craft beer so good they will make you weep. Examples? An unconventional saison with its atypical high 6.4% ABV. Unfiltered, creating an almost creamy mouth feel with the hint of tongue tingling effervescence. Tart and gently bitter in all the right ways. The higher alcohol is in perfect balance A Belgian Blonde (Jean Claude Van Blonde) with the herbal, wet forest floor nose of an Old World Trappist brew and bold upfront flavor that finishes clean like a pilsner. This time, a somewhat lower alcohol content (7.2% ABV) restrains the bitterness and flabbiness and keeps the entire flavor in check. The kolsch (On Common Ground) and the Hawaiian style IPA (Let's Go!) flavored with strawberry guava pulp both equally pleasing on a warm day. Other in house brewed IPA's and stouts available that have not yet been sampled. That will change soon. Drink in or takeaway. Crowlers and growlers filled while you wait, available. Very friendly service with samples freely offered. Note: The online ordering portal is out of date and does not work. Calls go unanswered. Just show up in person. COVID safety protocols in place and enforced. Not slammed busy like the other Kakaako craft breweries, instead offering a chill vibe and top caliber brews.

Food We shared the Beer Battered Fish & Chips, Bang-A-Rang Shrimp, and Eggplant Bruschetta. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The fish was crispy on the outside and flaky inside, the Bang-A-Rang Shrimp had just the right amount of crunch and flavor, and the Eggplant Bruschetta was a delicious starter. Drinks I ordered a beer flight with #5 Torchlight, #10 Hops for Hugs, #14 Rice Breaker, and #16 After Hours. After Hours was easily my favorite. Everyone was very nice there and the space was a good sports bar to watch the World Cup at. We sat at the bar so we could see the TVs, but there were plenty around the restaurant. The food was mixed reviews. The shrimp fried rice was really good, a bit on the oily side (personally don't mind that) and lacked salt, but that was an easy fix. The special was this pork belly (I think) and honestly it didn't wow me. It was a bit bland and also the amount was so small. The Macaroni salad was good and rice was good. The slaw, to me, was too crunchy and could have marinated longer to soften up. Again, this dish lacked salt. The Pina Coladas, were very tasty and refreshing, but were too sweet so it was hard to get a second one and come close to finishing. I had my partner help me drink it because it was too much. I'd still go again and try other things on the menu and maybe ask for the colada to not be too sweet

Too sweet that there's a bit of an imbalance in flavor. They also had open mic karaoke here. Crowd was kinda dead, so we tried to liven them up with a familiar country tune. Didn't work. Oh well. It's mid-week and we can't sing, so... Anyway, this isn't a bad spot to grab some brews and a few things to munch on. Onto the next.

Good food, okay service. I stood at the host stand for quite a while with the rest of my party…read morewhile we waited for a host to ever notice us. Finally, got seated and a server eventually came by. The pepperoni rolls are delicious as always. We tried the paniolo burger (excellent) and the It's a Gouda burger (good, but I couldn't really taste the aioli or the Gouda). The mac salad on the side is fairly good although I prefer Zippy's because it's more flavorful. Kona's is a bit on the bland side. I got an itty bitty beer to go with my drink and didn't realize that the 5 ounce pour was basically the size of one of their little taster flight beers, but it's $4.25, where the 10 ounce is $6.25. Kind of wish my server had pointed out the 10 ounce is a better value, but they were extremely casual and seemed pretty distracted the whole time, so I don't think they thought to mention it. The 15% off for kama'aina makes the food a better deal. A nice place for a bite to eat and to try some interesting beers and seltzers on tap.

My first visit to this restaurant was unfortunately a very disappointing experience from the moment…read morewe walked in. My partner and I had just finished a long hike and were excited to relax, enjoy a good meal, and watch the World Cup game. When we arrived, we approached the host stand to put our name on the waitlist. Instead of being greeted with a smile or any sense of hospitality, the host, Sarah, came across as very snarky, dismissive, and unwelcoming. She informed us there would be approximately a 45-minute wait, which we completely understood and were happy to accept. While waiting, we stood near the bar area so we could watch the World Cup match. Despite standing there for around 25 minutes, not a single bartender or employee acknowledged us, offered a menu, or even greeted us. Eventually, after about 30 minutes of waiting, a table in the bar area became available. Since it was empty, we sat down, assuming it was open. Within moments, the host approached us with the same rude attitude and told us that table was being held for another party. We politely asked to speak with a manager. Rather than responding professionally, she visibly rolled her eyes before going to get one, which only reinforced how unwelcome we felt. When the manager arrived, the interaction was equally disappointing. He never asked us what had happened or tried to understand our perspective. Instead, he immediately apologized and reiterated that the table was reserved for another waiting party. We didn't want to cause a scene, so we simply moved to another available bar table. What made the situation especially frustrating was that the original table they insisted was reserved remained empty the entire time afterward. No one was ever seated there while we watched. It left us questioning why such a rigid stance was taken over a seating arrangement that appeared easily manageable. The issue was never about having to move tables. We understand restaurants get busy and that hosts have to manage seating. The problem was the complete lack of hospitality, communication, and customer service. From the host's attitude and eye-rolling to the manager's unwillingness to listen before making a decision, we felt like an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests. As first-time customers, first impressions matter. We arrived excited to enjoy our evening, but instead left feeling ignored, dismissed, and genuinely unwelcome. A little kindness, professionalism, and a willingness to communicate could have completely changed this experience. Unfortunately, that's not what we received.
