A small boutique style wine shop downtown/Chinatown with a good selection. You may even find a small array of flights if you are looking to have an elegant tasting party. They offer French Bubbles, and wines from France, Napa, Sonoma, a few coastal areas nearby, Oregon, Washington, I believe I saw a couple of southern CA regional wines, and maybe a couple from Australia, Spain... maybe a Malbec. I would need more time, I was on a quick break to grab champagne for a colleague who needed to take some for a work event. They have a refrigerator so if you do need something chilled, there is a selection to choose from, otherwise plan ahead. Prices are very fair! The options are great as well. I much rather prefer a nice wine shop over the shelves at Safeway (sorry Safeway.....) They also have nice options for whisky, cognac, soju, and a couple of tequila items. Small Chinatown liquor shop filled with a variety of different drinks --wine, whiskey, bourbon, etc. Doors are locked so you have to knock/call to be let in. Lots of different wines that I haven't seen sold anywhere else on island. This is probably a good spot for a true wine connoisseur. We were looking for some Spanish Tempranillo wine, however, there was none available. We decided to purchase a 10 year aged port wine from Portugal. Lady working was nice and helpful. Good selection of harder to find wines and spirits. The lady working there was friendly and answered any questions as best she could. The store does close early compared to other alcohol stores, which seems to be typical of other surrounding businesses within Chinatown. Very few of them seem to stay open past sunset. If you are in the area worth checking out their selection. You might have to ring the doorbell or knock, as the door is kept locked to help in preventing theft. Stumbled across NK as we just landed at HNL and was pressed for time before our kbbq dinner. Quickly found meter parking off of Smith. Wasn't shocked to find the front door locked and waited a few minutes to be let in. Wendy warmly greeted us and recommended the 2012 Lyndenhurst and the 2012 Husic. Both opened up well after a few minutes in the decanter. Was pleasantly surprised at how affordable she has her bottles priced. Won't be going out of my way if I want to enjoy a decent bottle of wine while on vacation in HNL. read more

Wonderful selection of wines and spirits! Wendy has a personality that I'm just drawn to. Not to mention she has Japanese Whisky that seem to be more and more difficult to find as the year goes by. On a few times that I've stopped in I was fortunate to get a taste of something. Of course that leads to me wanting to buy a bottle of it. That's a good thing in this industry right.... hahahaha You'll be pleasantly surprised of the inventory she carries and you'll forget about having to find parking. I've always said that if you have something that's good, people will come no matter what. This place is one of those. Sometimes you don't need all the pretty furniture and large amount of space to draw in the serious buyers. Someone mentioned to me that I should keep this place a secret, but it's too good not to share. If you're one of her frequent customers that buy the good stuff you'll get invited to those more exclusive tastings. Really who doesn't like to feel a little bit "special" or "vip" right???.... Wendy has great recommendations and if you're like me, you drink nearly everything. 15% off the entire store for the Holiday season!! I just could not resist that kind of deal! I have walked passed this shop numerous times, but always felt a bit skeptical because of the random location they are at. Finally after seeing that big 15% off sign I convinced myself to check it out. They have a pretty decent selection here and the prices aren't bad at all. The worker was nice and helpful as I was trying to make a selection of wine. I think I will probably visit this wine shop for frequently now, since it's on the way to where I need to go. I've driven down on King Street past NK Wines almost every single day of 2015. Finally one day this past summer, I wandered into the store front wanting to check out what they have - I was floored by their selection. There was just SO much! After taking it all in, I immediately gravitated towards my favorite wine and Wendy was quick to acknowledge my selection and mention the sister wines from the same makers and vineyard. I was so impressed and chatted up with her about the business and about their alcohol selection. I am so totally taking my boyfriend here when it comes back. It's just wine heaven! The best part is how Wendy is knowledgable and is so friendly to make recommendations and ask what I like to drink or why I like a particular wine. Other wine shops either: 1. Make me feel stupid for even being in there, or 2. Ignore me while I feel the silent judgment as I paw through the various labels. I don't think I ever would have found it on my own because the last thing I'd think of buying is wine in C-Town! Yet once you find parking and walk past all the crazy, what you'll find on King Street is a great wine selection at fair prices! My problem at most grocery stores is that they don't have the right inventory in stock but NK has a really solid selection. They just opened so everything is 15% off until 1/15! Very good wine selection and the prices seem lower than HASR, Wine Stop, and the local markets (probably not lower than Tamura's). A friend wanted to impress her boyfriend with her wine knowledge and choices so she dragged me here one day after the open market. I don't mind but I normally go to Tamura's. However, since we were in the area, she wanted to come in here and ask my opinion as well as the workers. They do have a special of 15% off but honestly, I didn't feel like the 15% off gave you an amazing deal. I think you could find regular prices at Tamura's/Target/ for about the same prices. They did have a decent selection of wine but not the one she was lookign for. They have high end and moderately priced wines (no Franzia) that most people would enjoy/buy for themselves or a party. The woman who worked there was very helpful in helping my friend pick something within her price range. She was happy with what she got even though they didn't have the exact one she was looking for. I hope that her boyfriend was impressed! I also hope he was impressed that she didn't break the bank at the same time (since he is very financially conscious while my friend is usually not). I am not sure where you would park if you didn't work downtown. I don't know if I would necessarily come here if I didn't work in town but it was fun to browse and talk to them to find out what's good/what's up and coming. Showed up to this place because I went to the Wine & Art across the street. Needed some last-minute liquid artistic aids, and this was the closest spot (didn't plan ahead, but got super lucky!). The lady who helped us was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The selection was AWESOME (wine, whiskey/whisky, assorted other hard alcohol). I gave it 4 stars because the location is a bit out of my usual area of travel, but I will be back anytime I'm in the area and need a drink :) read more

It's a small shop on King St. just East of Smith St. It's parking and traffic challenged. Otherwise, this place is great! Wendy and staff are very friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. Their selection, although not very large, is spot on with what I consider good stuff. I have or recognize at least 30-40% of their inventory (of what I would consider good stuff). Their prices are reasonable. Many are at the retail price that the winery charges. With their promotions, and the ability to buy just a few at a time, this is a great place. Just came out of there for a third time. They have a special for the month of September of 15% off if you buy 4 bottles or more. As an example of pricing, I bought a 2009 Figgins Estate Red Wine. It's supposedly rated 98 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Total Wine in Las Vegas has it for $114.99 + tax (Total Wine will give you 10% off, but only if you buy a case or more; then you have to pay the huge sales tax and still find a way to ship it here). It was $93 at NK. With the 15% discount, it was $79.48 + tax. I also just got an email from Figgins offering the 2010, but in lots of 6 for $510 ($85 each but you can't buy it that way) plus tax and shipping. And we don't know what kind of rating the 2010 will get. I bought a 2008 Northstar Merlot, which I bought and tasted at the winery in Eastern WA for $35 plus tax. At NK, it was $29.75 plus tax (with the 15% off). If you like wine and like having choices, please support this place! read more

Wendy at NK Wine Shop has a really good and ever diversifying selection, mostly California, of moderate to higher priced wines, with a more generous discount for regular customers than anywhere else, and great, friendly service. Not the place to come if you're looking for Yellowtail, Franzia, or the like, and very few burgundies and Bordeaux (go see Keith at R. Field at Foodland Beretania or Jay, Dorothy or Brian at Vintage Wine Cellar on Wilder for those), but for both great table wines at reaonable prices and good wines for special occasions, it's a good selection of choices and prices. read more
