Sweet and Sour Pork
Alice N.

Years ago, a friend of mine told me to try this place for the jajang mien and I never listen to him...fast-forward to the other weekend. I finally went on a Sunday easy free street parking and went to check it out finally. Oh my goodness, the noodles were amazing a little on the soft side, but still very tasty but the real star of the show is the sweet-and-sour pork! Amazing explosive flavor rush! My husband, especially like the dumplings those were yummy and meaty. I wish I lived closer to town than I would go back every Sunday. Totally will definitely make it a special trip once or twice a month just to eat those three things again! Tables can be a tight squeeze and it's super busy but totally worth it.

Banchan (we ate some before I could take a pic)

A co-worker went to have a haircut and suggested having lunch at On Dong afterward. We've been here before and it's "the place" for Jjajangmyeon and Tangsuyuk. We both ordered Seafood Jjajangmyeon and shared a plate of Tangsuyuk. I wanted my noodles drier and adding the sauce made the dish a little too watery for me. The sweet sour pork was great but I wish the sauce was served on the side so the pork would stay crispy. All in all, a good meal that ended up costing $57, plus tip.

I can't believe it took me so long to get to this place! My friends took me here because they were craving jajangmyeon and this is one of their go-to spots. Everything was so tasty and cooked really well! Their banchan was really good too - I really liked the daikon. I think there's a small parking lot in the back but we found street parking pretty close. The service was very quick. Will be back!

Heard about this restaurant from friends overhearing another couple talk about the best Asian comfort foods. We just had to try it and on a Wednesday night this place was super packed. You can tell there were a lot of regulars and people were clearly enjoying their meal. The interior is clean and homey with very nice ladies serving the food. We ordered potstickers, jelly fish, jian jjan mien, soup and stir fried noodles. Everything came out quickly. The potstickers were so good with a nice chewy texture to the skin. The jia jia mien noodle perfectly aldente covered in a thick black sauce heavily mixed throughout the dish. The stirfried noodle is hard to explain..super tasty and clean and not too oily. We also ordered chives and pork this dish felt refreshing and the chives tasted crunchy . Very satisfying meal! Will return again!

Sides: Radish, kimchi, onions with black bean paste

On Dong Chinese Restaurant is a local hole-in-the wall restaurant. The menu is full of comforting Chinese-Korean staples served hot, flavorful, and perfect for sharing, with generous portions and fair prices. Highlights for our table were the shrimp fried rice - which we enjoyed so much we ordered it two more times, and the sweet and sour pork - perfectly crispy on the outside and packed with flavor. We came with a group of eight and were seated at a round table with a rotating tabletop, which made sharing dishes super convenient and added to the fun, family-style experience. The old-school ambiance feels welcoming and nostalgic, and service was efficient and friendly, making this a solid go-to for group dining and consistently good Chinese food.

Jambong...soooo good. Delicious ingredients and noodles are perfect and soup broth amazing.

Dec 2025. Happy to report that On Dong is still the best spot for jajamien and jambong! Taste is same. I'm from LA Ktown and years ago there was a very popular Chinese Korean restaurant named "Mandarin House" on 8th street in Ktown and the flavors of the jajamien, jambong and chicken fried rice at On Dong are nearly identical to Mandarin House! In LA, Mandarin House was the gold standard. Service is 5 stars! Ambience is 4 stars for what it is! You are not coming here for the ambience or service tho. This spot is all about the food. And the food makes up for everything and anything else. "Hole in the wall" but it's not really since it's just old but very clean and well maintained to be true hole in the wall. This is authentic Chinese Korean cuisine. Legit and delicious!

Food was fresh and pretty fast. We ordered the same black noodles, potstickers, and spicy Korean chicken. All was fantastic as always. The service was fast and friendly. The place was semi clean. I think the floor was just dirty from food spilled throughout the day. They have no time to clean that and most people don't look under the table. Compared to Korea this was very very expensive but they are one of two places on island that are best for this food.

Previously went here a week ago and returned on Easter Sunday. They have the best Jajangmyeon around! The dumplings were yummy too. The kimchi is definitely my fave!! Service is always friendly, and the ambiance is cozy and comfortable. We will definitely return for more delicious adventures!! Parking is in the back which is paid via QR code online. $2.99 for an hour and it increases by the hour.

Although the inside is small mainly taken by the booth tables, their service was fast. It was my first time trying jajangmyeon in general. It's not bad, my friends really like theirs, but I think I'm just not a fan of sweet spaghetti like noodles. I prefer something savory. The potstickers were good though, the wrappers are on the thicker side since they're homemade.

My boyfriend and I were craving noodles and took to Yelp to find a restaurant. We decided on this place since the food looking amazing in the pictures. This is small restaurant on King Street. The tables were all filled but we only had to wait 5 minutes to be seated. The workers were so effective and quick to make sure everyone got their order. I ordered the Jjamppong and it was INCREDIBLE. The broth was so flavorful and the noodles were perfectly bouncy. I'd come back just to have this meal again. My boyfriend ordered the Jajangmyeon and he said it was delicious! Most of the other tables ordered this as well. We decided to get the sweet and sour pork as well. If I order this next time, I will get the sauce on the side since it ruined the crunch on the pork. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place! Great service and great food! Will definitely be back for the Jjamppong!

One of my absolute favorite restaurants on the island! Everything is always so tasty and service is great. I've been coming since I was a child and it never fails. Our favorites are Jjajangmyeon, jjampong, ganpong chicken and tangsuyuk with the sauce in the side!

Jajangmyeon

I came here for the jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) because I've had it before and I enjoy it! We got that and the sweet and sour pork. I like their sweet and sour pork because there's not a lot of tendon or other parts when you're eating it. Usually when I eat any pork, there's other parts that get chewy but this one felt like mostly meat for all the parts so that was good. It was nicely fried as well. Atmosphere - Good, classic chinese (it's a Korean Chinese restaurant) looking kind of place. They had tables and chairs but also booth seats. Service - Our server was nice and checked in with us. If you need anything you can just wave them down as well and they'll come. They are hustling so they move fast and get you what you need. Cost - We got jajangmyeon and sweet and sour pork so with tip, it was around $45. You get your usual banchan as well which is kimchi, the raw onion with the paste and I think they had the yellow pickled radish as well if not the yellow then the pickled white (getting my food places confused). Parking - They have a small lot in the back which is paid parking. Since we came after 6pm, we just did the metered street parking (don't pay afterwards, read the signs) so it was easy. Location - Entrance to the restaurant is on King Street, there's no entrance from the back or parking lot area. I would definitely come here again for the jajangmyeon and sweet and sour pork!

Walking in, it was dark, cozy, smelling delicious and it was Full House. We were seated quickly with servers that were friendly & fast. The meats were fresh and tasty. The spicy cold noodles were refreshing, and all the Banchan little dishes offered lots of varieties and refillable. You know this place is authentic when you have bean paste dipping sauce and raw garlic slices. They are not trying to tailor to westerners. The grill was hot, the meat was sizzling and the food kept coming. We ate as much as we can, and there were so much food, at the end. We were about to explode. We ordered a spicy squid with kimbab, chive jeon, and an extra bowl of rice to share. The spicy squid was not spicy, but had a smokey depth. I drenched the kimbab in that sauce and it was easily the best thing I tried here. The chive jeon was extra crispy and packed with veggies. We easily agreed that we need to come back with a few more people, so we can either share the army stew or joxxam dish. Thanks for reading my reviews! Let me know what I should try next!

I really enjoy the Korean comfort foods! 4 stars for the food, soups, and ban chan, 5 stars if the service was great. Typical service you will get at a Korean spot but no complaints. Just gotta be patient for ban chan refills or if you need anything else, I don't expect much just happy that I get to have my Korean food. During this recent Saturday visit, I decided to go here for our late lunch, after hiking Koko Head Trail & Makapuu. It was about 4:30 pm, we were the only ones there, but it filled up pretty quick an and they do have many take out and Uber/Door Dash orders. My favorites here are the combo set, choice of soondubu (combination, kim chee, spam, beef, sausage, clam,) & either meat jun, fried mandoo, bulgogi, yellow corvina, seafood jun, or BBQ chicken. The combo use to be $20.55 my first time but now went up to $23.55, hence the increase, it is still a great deal, this meal comes with rice and 5 different ban chan. This combo was more than enough for the both of us. My favorite is the spam soondubu ( yes. who picks Spam right?! hehe) & the seafood Jun. Although it so hard to decide since all the choices are good, I will have to visit again for the other selection. The other half and I cannot eat an entire combo set by ourselves. I love the ban chan, especially the daikon & kim chee, so fresh and crispy! When I first dined here, I was surprise to see they give you a fresh egg to crack in your soondubu soup, I am use to the egg already in there. We always have leftover soondu soup which I take home and add to my Korean ramen the next day, so good! For the meats, the beef brisket and beef toro were the stars, but the beef chuck was slightly tough and dry. They were also out of bulgogi, which was disappointing. The pork had a really strong boar taint smell/taste, which completely turned me off from ordering any of the pork. We had to ask for more meat and banchan refills multiple times. There was usually a pretty noticeable lag before anything came out, which was frustrating for an AYCE spot. They also seemed to be selective about which banchans they would refill. They would bring more of the dishes like kimchi and cucumber, but when we asked for more tuna mac, they wouldn't give us any. It also looked like there were only two people working while there were probably around 10 tables during the Tuesday lunch rush, so I do think they were understaffed. If you're offering AYCE, the refills and service should flow a lot more smoothly. It felt like they were paying more attention the tables that selected a higher tier of AYCE. Not a terrible experience, but definitely not as seamless or enjoyable as I was hoping for.
