We had a wonderful meal and experience at Cho Dang last night. There were plenty of free parking in the evening; day time maybe a little bit more of a challenge because of Eggs n Things next door. The three of us have stone pot beef bibimbap (mixed rice with vegetables), seafood soondubu (soft tofu soup), yugaejang (spicy shredded beef soup), steamed egg and zucchini jun (pancake). The soups were piping hot and delicious, and the rice in the bibimbap was nice and crispy. The zucchini in the jun is still crunchy and not overcooked; the steamed egg is so soft, fluffy and delicious. Don't sleep on the four free banchans (side dishes), they're very good as well. The lady server was friendly and efficient, even though she was the only one for the entire place; and she also handled all the many takeouts. We've been coming here for a number of years, and have always love it. The prices have gone up a little, but I think it is still very reasonable. read more

I haven't been here in YEARS. I was craving for Korean food and my usual go to just recently closed :( so my sister decided to come here for dinner instead. We came for an early dinner 5ish so it wasn't busy at all. But after we left, 630ish... the restaurant was getting busy. I honestly forgot about how good this place is & how they have all day specials! Yes it increased in price but $12 for meat Jun in this economy is still a win win to me. We also got other items like the kalbi, bbq chicken, cold noodles & spicy pork w/ squid. Everything was super good. No complaints. Meat Jun was the same like how I remembered and I love how they give a big portion of everything. Banchan was easily refilled as well. Service was surprisingly really good from last time I've been here. I always heard horror stories about the one server who would chase you out asking for a tip... I've also experienced that once haha but our server was sweet & constantly checked up on us. Personally, I like coming here just for their all day specials. 4.5 Stars For the price, the food is excellent. We have ordered the kimchi jjigae, bibimbap, and dalk galbi. They have all been very good! For the price the amount of food you get is ridiculous- very generous. People mention the service, but I chalk that up to a language barrier: additionally whenever I have gone in they smile and everything goes smoothly. The restaurant is small, but there is a lot of parking. A quiet, nice area. My Dad wanted to eat Korean food today. He remembered where I have taken him several times to eat and asked me to go there today. Cho Dang restaurant is my go to place for a Korean lunch with my Dad. The parking lot has accessible parking and a walk up type ramp for my dad to use. The doors are a bit heavy, but I will hold it open for him to enter. Seating is simple and the aisles are wide enough for my dad to have easy access to the chair. Today, he used a cane. Usually there is only one person who will be there to take your order. Still the best deal in town! Say all that you want there's no one that have their prices and I searched...as I was deciding on dinner and it's been a bit chilly lately and it's supposed to storm tomorrow why not some comfort soup and for me it's Yukkyejang which is hot (spicy) shredded beef soup with long rice, veggies, and egg it's the ultimate soup for me. It's been awhile that I decided to give the Kaka'ako location a visit...too long apparently only to see that they've closed so it's just the Ala Moana location so here I am Service here is basic no not the friendliest but for $11.50 ($10.99 +tax) it's certainly the right price for me while I've seen fast food charge five to seven dollars more. Our first time to this restaurant. Thay are two entrances, a little confusing at first. You end up in the same restaurant , but in different dining areas. We ordered the Zucchini Jun and large Tofu Soup with seafood to share. The banchan was excellent. This is the first time I had the potato severed warm. I think that it enhanced the flavor. The tofu soup was another great choice, It was mildly spiced. The little shrimp or prawns was shell on. I didn't like it because they were tiny and hard to peel. We came at 8pm, the restaurant closes at 9pm. We were trying to order and the man, probably the manager, is super uptight and mean looking and tells us the kitchen closes in ten minutes. I met a great bunch of Yelpers and they showed me all of the good places to eat and Cho Dang was one of them. My photo from over eight years ago shows a bowl of clam tofu soup - looks spicy! Haha! I can't remember much from that time. That's why I had to visit again - before they close down to make way for a condominium project... This is an old school place. It's simple - not fancy. Parking is free in the shared lot. Service was very efficient. At first, the lady told me to sit in the large room because the small side is colder - the air conditioning is stronger, but it was okay for me. She was very observant because she noticed that I stopped eating and that I started piling up the empty bowls - she brought me a takeout container. She had great timing - I didn't have to ask for the bill because she brought it to me when I pulled out my credit card! When I was leaving, she called me to return - I had forgotten my takeout box on the table! I ordered the King Kalbi. It was filling! I liked the sizzling platter and bed of grilled onions. The tender meat was cut off from the bone thinly! The banchan was colorful and tasty! I had a wonderful experience here! I went to chodang for dinner when I was in the area. This place has been here forever and it has always been good and affordable. You get assorted banchan and the first page of the menu shows the specials that start at about $10.99. I got the soybean curd soup which is always nice and hot and hits the spot. And we also ordered the meat Jun which you can't go wrong with. Service was very quick, but she wasn't super friendly. My favorite Tofu soup restaurant in Honolulu at all times. It's been 5 year since I was in Honolulu. I was reunited with my favorite tofu soup and kalbi I was so happy to be there. barbecue. Their tofu soup broth is so delicious and it's indescribable. Also they marinate their meat for so special that you eat their barbecue and you will not forget their bbq. I always been to Cho dang for last 20 years . They serves the best soft tofu soup and great Korean food. It has not changed anything. The food tastes same as last time I was there. I see a lot of locals goes there and Korean repeater. Since after covid, I realized that the Hawaii restaurants and stores are closed so many places. It was sad to the shopping center closed half of stores. However Cho Dang is still keep their original and open every day. The restaurant is small but the service is very efficient and fast. They have a great parking space outside but they don't serve alcohol beverages. Decided to check out this place since I read on another food blog website that the meat juns here are one of the best in town. Ordered the meat jun and Yukkyejang (spicy beef soup). The Yukkyejang hits the spot - the broth was not too spicy and it had the right amount of beef. On the other hand, the meat jun was very disappointing considering the expectations that I had going in. It had too much flour and very little meat in it. It felt like I was eating more dough than anything else. I know other reviews mention that the service can be terrible, however on that night, the service wasn't too bad. Got lucky & went after the rush, 1st time here, never heard of it, just was passing by & enjoyed my Kalbi/Chicken Combo

Not the best but not exactly the worse? It really is a hit or miss for me when I dine here but the last couple visits were surprisingly pleasant. What gets me to come back are the affordable prices for Korean food. It definitely raised from when I was in high school but it's still pretty affordable if you're on a budget. When you eat here, never expect great service or mind-blowing food and you'll be satisfied with your meal. Make sure you know what you want by the time the waitress gets to your table because they are not a big fan of waiting...but if you do need more time, they'll come back. My go-to is normally the Meat Jun or the Sonduboo (soft tofu soup) The Meat Jun comes with more than enough pieces to keep you happy and the soup is satisfying. The only downside for the Sonduboo is that they don't provide an egg for you to crack inside but at their prices, I'm not really complaining (I guess) I've tried other menu items aside from their specials and I enjoyed them as well so if you want to take a chance on this place, why not? read more

We came here for dinner after going to the Yelp event. We love to go to Cho Dang. We usually go to the one by Ala Moana but we haven't been there in a while. It was nice to have some good Korean food. We love to get the soon du bu. My daughter and I get the combination one and my husband gets the beef one. My daughter gets her white with no spice. I got mine red and my husband got his spicy. We also got a side of mandoo. We ordered and waited for the take out. My daughter wanted to explore the area with me so I told my husband we were gonna go to HMart since I've never been. He said okay and he sat in the restaurant waiting for the order. We came back and my daughter went back inside to ask my husband something. When she came back out to me, the worker was rushing after a lady to take back her order. He said he gave her our order. My husband was a little irritated about it because he was waiting there the whole time. But it's okay, at least we were able to get our order back. They did mix up the covers on the soon du bu. The spicy label cover was on the non spicy one. I tasted it and thought wow this is spicy. But then my husband realized they switched the covers because his only had beef. We were craving Korean soup and since we were shopping right at Ala Moana, we figured this was perfect and we could simply walk over and have a quick lunch. It was perfect for all of the right reasons. Super affordable, quick service and great soup. I was surprised at how much Banchan we were served and I loved each one of the sides! We didn't have to wait at all and there were many good options so I can come back and try something different in the future. The pricing for the seafood pancake was surprisingly very expensive, especially considering how affordable everything else was. Seemed to be an impressive two woman show. One lady running the front and one lady cooking. With that being said everything came out quick, hot, and fresh. The food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. The hot noodle soup with mandoo was super delicious. I loved the vegetables, the mandoo were really big and tasty, I loved the stringy beef that gave the soup good texture, and the broth was super clean. I would eat this every time, unless I dared to try something new. I also ordered the meat jun and bbq chicken mix. The bbq chicken was okay, but the meat jun was really good. It wasn't doughy from being flowered to early in the day and not cooked well. The egg was airy and it was one of the top two meat jun I've had. We also ordered bimbimbap, but I didn't try that. The hot beef soup was also really good well balanced and not too hot, but just right. I was only able to steal a couple of bites of that one. The tteokbokki (spicy rice cake with mozzarella) was really good. Again, not too spicy, a lot of cheese and the fish cake was really good. Everyone seemed really nice and happy there. We drew a lot of attention because we have a 1 year old, but I'll just say that everyone must've been happy because of the good food and affordable prices. First time for me when my friend and her husband decided to come here after a day hanging out at Ala Moana shopping center playing a Pokemon Go event the weekend after Thanksgiving 2022. I've walked past the restaurant but never went in till now. I know of Authentic Korean fare when it came to the fast food Korean BBQ. Didn't think of it as authentic when you really go into those other restaurants that gives you a different approach to how traditional Korean fare is served and presented. With that said, we arrived here for lunch around 1:30pm on a Saturday afternoon in November 2022. The restaurant was fairly small, but could fit maybe at most 20 people at once among 6-7 tables. It's a small operation here that continues to make people smile and happy with their offerings. For myself and my friends though, we gravitated towards their lunch specials, because they were affordable and the list was fairly long anyway. The restaurant itself was clean and organized, but as mentioned before, just a small but cozy place to be. The weather was warm, as usual mid day, and I didn't really feel the air condition. Maybe it was on, but I didn't really feel anything. For the most part though, the ambiance was nice and quiet. Nobody really wore a face mask, but I guess we were somewhat getting back to normal post pandemic, even though we are still ongoing with this thing. My experience here took about 45 minutes from entering the restaurant and leaving after we have paid. Quite delicious and budget friendly. The overall experience here at Cho Dang Korean restaurant was fairly good and enhanced. It is a good place to hang out with friends while shopping or hanging out at Ala Moana shopping center. This side of the mall is more quiet than other parts, so it was nice to be here to have lunch before going our separate ways for the day. I was sure what I had that day, although it was served steaming / boiling with a lot of steam. Had to wait like 15 minutes before it cooled down and started eating. Be sure to ask for rice, if you need to with your dish. Good thing I took photos, but couldn't tell you what I had off the top of my head. The service was good and attentive. As far as parking goes, there is limited parking in the small cul-de-sac group of restaurants fronting Cho Dang. Limited is a generous term, but if you can't find any parking here, best bet would be to park relatively close by within Ala Moana shopping center and walk out to the restaurant. If you are like me, many bus routes start and end service at Ala Moana shopping center. Choose the right route(s) that are best for you to come here for lunch, dinner, or a snack or two in the middle. Best to come before the lunch or dinner rush for the best possible parking or seating in the restaurant. Came here on a whim for dinner yesterday. The last time we patronized Chodang was probably 2 years ago. The hubs was worried about parking because it is usually super busy (shared with Eggs n Things, Taiyo Ramen, Nijiya, and a new-ish Japanese stationery shop/formerly Payless Shoes) but it wasn't last night, even though it was a Saturday night. The tables have been reconfigured for maximum space in between--there are four tables of four now whereas I think they could accommodate double that number in the past. Food was tasty as we remember! We ordered the soondubu + seafood pancake combo, fish jun, and spicy pork, which totaled to $52 including tax. We had a little bit of leftover fish jun to take home but ate everything else! I think the pancake might hv shrunk a teeny bit. The kimchee is still the sweet kind, which I like! I would have asked for more and also the fish cake but I was stuffed. Service was friendly and efficient. There was only one waitress working and she checked on us for water refills a couple of times. Two other tables were occupied while we were dining, and she also helped takeout/pickup customers. One family with two young boys were seated directly in the path of the air conditioner. The waitress overheard the younger one telling his mom that he's cold and she adjusted the air conditioner! Which I thought was kind of her, even tho they never asked. But then I think she redirected the vents... to our table! Hubs switched seats with the kid and I got a towel for the kid and the hubs' jacket from the car so it's all good. I'm so happy this place is still around! This is my go to for yukaejang! It's one of my favorite, the spice, the amount of egg and noodles! It's perfect. The meat jun is also one of my favorites. They're still reasonably priced which is really nice honestly. It's not what it used to be but it's still a good deal for the amount you get! I tried their seafood soondubu and the beef noodle soup for the first time as well and those were really really good! Well what can I say for this place. Read some yelp reviews and the most recent post about 11 months ago. I think it was from our favorite yelper Nadine C. This place is located near eggs and things and Taiyo ramen by the old Payless shoe store and niijya market which is no longer there. I wanted to try their soft tofu soup and their zucchini jun. We were the 1st people there which opens at 11am. Then the people start coming in. The server was very friendly and the only one in the front serving and ringing up on the cash register. Don't know how many in the back. Took a while for the food to come out but once it came out it was good. Love their banchan shoyu potato, daikon Kim chee, bean sprouts, won bok Kim chee, and Kim chee chives. The tofu soup was filled with seafood and lots of tofu.
