Family member brought me a takeout of Bulgogi (the rest ate there). I'm not sure exactly what entree from the menu it was but during lunchtime. My first impression was the portion - surely a lot! I also noticed how the items were separated with foil. Good presentation and keeps each item intact. I dislike when the sauces all run over into each other. So, that was a plus. The Bulgogi had a very mild flavor - hardly any taste. Big helping that could make several small meals. Of the Banchan, the cucumber kimchee was my favorite - perfect taste and crunch. I didn't care for the other Banchan selections I tried one bite of the won bok Kim chee and had to grab a napkin quick. The fish cake wasn't too bad. Glad I got to sample this place though, a popular lunch spot for some of my family members. We came for lunch and got a seafood pancake to share. I got lunch special #1 which included a stone pot rice, soondubu, and kalbi. First off they brought out 8 types of banchan. Most were good, just one of them we thought was too salty. The seafood pancake was good to share. I enjoyed my lunch special. The rice is scooped out of the stone pot into a bowl and tea poured inside to soften up the rice stuck to the pot. The rice was great to eat both ways. I chose soondubu for my soup and I enjoyed the taste. It had just enough spice/heat and had some clams along with the soft tofu. The kalbi was good being not your typical local style, overly sweet tasting. It had a little bit of sweetness and more of a restrained taste which is a good thing. Ranked #6 in the Yelp Top 50 Korean Restaurants in the U.S. is Korea House. Got a chance to try this spot back in April for a special someone's birthday and everything had was amazing. We ordered the meat jun, seafood pajeon, steamed egg pot, galbi-jjim, bibimbap, and the cold noodles in beef broth. They also brought out miyeok-guk and a Choco Pie tower for the birthday girl. Because when in Hawaii, you have to try meat jun, right? At least that's what our thoughtful friends had encouraged us to do so because it's a popular Hawaiian-Korean fusion dish only available in Hawaii. Out of all the bites though, their galbi-jjim stole the show for me. It was tender and perfectly balanced between sweet and savory. It was an amazingly prepared dish. Parking seems like a headache. We first ate here when they first opened and have been coming back ever since PARKING- Let's be honest. Parking sucks here. The lot is small but there's also another small lot at the back of the restaurant. The only reason I have it 4 stars is because I'm in a wheelchair and we parked in the handicap stall. The attendant was nice and held my door open as my husband helped me out. Nice right? The lot was pretty empty when we arrived and left. But when we got out of the restaurant, there was a car parked in the accessible aisle next to our car. The attendant smiled at us as we approached it car. I know it wasn't the car owners fault, the attendant likely motioned to have them park there. Everytime we try to go, the lot is usually full and I notice there's always a car parked in the accessibility aisle. And yes , I reported it to the DOJ. police likely wouldn't respond so it's not worth calling them. FOOD- The banchan is always delicious and plentiful. We got the seafood pajeon, cold noodles in beef broth, meat jun, galbi-jjim, steamed egg pot, and bibimbap. No actual grilling was done but we weren't exactly here for that. We came here to try meat jun and ended up getting a little bit of everything else. Let me tell you something... the galbi-jjim here alone is enough to pay them a visit. If you don't know what galbi-jjim is, let me explain it real quick. Galbi-jjim is a popular Korean dish of tender, braised short ribs, typically beef or pork, cooked in a savory-sweet soy sauce-based liquid with garlic, ginger, and often fruits like pear or apple for sweetness and tenderizing. It was perfectly savory and saucy, fall-off-the-bone tender, and I want to scream just thinking about it. The first bite alone had me sitting back in my seat. Had I been wearing a hat, I would have taken it off and held it over my heart. It was that good. And since it was my birthday, they brought over a complimentary seaweed soup and a tower of Choco Pies. They even sang Happy Birthday to me and made me blush. Solid eats and excellent service. Food was good but service was not. Halfway through the meal, we (a party of 5) felt rushed to finish our food. They constantly gave us clues that they want us to leave even though more than 2/3 of all of the tables in the restaurant were there before us. It's extremely rude when one of server (not even our server) just stood right by our table the whole time while other ladies would constantly come by looking at our table. We were there for ~50 minutes max from the time we got into the restaurant to the time we left. We would not go back since we did not get to enjoy our food as intended. read more

Korea Garden delivered on all fronts!! Firstly, their high chairs were spotless (my newest benchmark item when dining out). They offer tons of banchan and free refills. Everything was delicious. Their menu is extensive and we all ordered something different. Every single dish was perfect and even better than we expected. The waitress had a miso and rice soup prepared for my son which was so thoughtful and so incredibly appreciated. Our favorite dish turned out to the be short rib stew my husband ordered. It was a clear broth with tender chunks of short rib and soft turnips. The broth was so flavorful. The service was so patient, helpful and kind. A Korean friend told me about this restaurant when I asked him which was the best Korean restaurant in Honolulu. Without hesitation, he said Korea Garden. I never heard of this place but if my friend from Korea says it's good, I'm sure the food is authentic. It's a very big restaurant and there are two entrances. Arrived on a Friday night and this place was packed. They have an amazing ventilation system because with all the grilling that they do, it wasn't smoky, nor did my clothes smell after our meal. My partner and I are beef eaters and were sold on the combo menu. For $99.99. You get a selection of pork belly, brisket, beef tongue, prime rib and sirloin steak. As soon as we ordered, the banchan (sides) came out almost immediately, then our waitress started the grilling. She knew just how to cook the thinly sliced meat to perfection. My favorite was the grilled pork belly with sliced grilled sweet onion. They have a tasty special salt/oil dipping sauce that goes with all the grilled meats. Everything was so yummy and plentiful, we couldn't finish it all. Another good thing about Korea Garden is that parking is very limited. If there's one thing Maui lacks it's the amount of good Korean BBQ or any Asian fusion Cuisine. We were trying to find a place that had both Korean food & Jajangmyeon so my sister could have both. Unfortunately they only serve that during lunch we'll have to be back for that when she returns. We eat a lot of Korean BBQ so we get our favorites & basically compare the dishes we know and love. My husband always gets a short rib / Kal Bi Spicy soup or kimchi jiigae. He said they have the best one so far - spicy flavor w/ a good beef flavor. Everything was so yummy tho' my sister had a blast trying food she rarely gets to eat. The service was 5/5 our server was great - he was so helpful as it was our first time here. Explained every banchan to us & checked on us frequently. You can cook the meats yourself but they do have the option to have the kitchen do it for you which is nice when you don't want to cook to enjoy your company or smell like smoke. If you have leftovers be sure to take those home, we did and everything was so tasty the next day including the soup. The parking lot is small & can be tricky if you're not a seasoned driver. Absolute BEST banchan on Oahu!!!! I've tried many Korean restaurants, but Korea Garden has by far the best! They offer certain banchan that I haven't found anywhere else. Those specialty ones change/rotate but are super good and will require additional visits to experience them all. Ambiance is very nice and clean. The yAkiNiKu meat quality is always very good and consistent, but a little on the pricey side. I like to go during lunch and get their soups. Their beef bone broth soup is my favorite along with the spicy beef soup. All dishes go extremely well with their banchan! Would highly recommend! As always this place delivers not only great food, but the service is great with a combination of friendly aunties and young servers greeting each customer and making sure that your dining in experience is excellent. So many of the Korean restaurants in Honolulu have servers who are actually mean to the customers and we now refuse to give them our dining dollars. The more modern Korean restaurants are providing much better customer experiences so that a customer becomes a life-long customer who spreads the word to family and friends and who keeps coming back for life. Does anyone remember the "Angry Korean Auntie" who used to run her restaurant like Seinfeld's "Soup Nazi'? That is the kind of service that we try to avoid now regardless of food quality. The atmosphere here is elegant and welcoming and the food is excellent and the ban chans served here are better than any other Korean restaurant in Honolulu. We enjoy coming here and never smell like BBQ when we leave, LOL, due to efficient fans and AC's. My family and I found our new favorite Korean restaurant and we will be back!! We knew it was good just based on the service. They have their own parking lot and the attendant helped mitigate traffic just so we can enter and leave the restaurant. That alone was amazing. There is so much to choose from here and to enjoy but it's all worth it. Definitely pricey with the more people that you bring but the quality of the food is worth it. Shortly after you order your food, there will be 8-10 side dishes placed on the table before your meal comes out. We had kimchi, fishcake, braised potatoes, pickled radish, bean sprouts, kimchi cucumber, and jelly. After my coworker complimented the side dishes, a sweet Korean lady came by and dropped off 2 more (salad and kimchi bok choy) Honestly, these were the best side dishes I've ever tasted! They were all so flavorful and perfectly seasoned. I could just eat the side dishes with rice as my meal and I would've been happy. I've ordered a couple of soup items and both were excellent. My coworker highly recommends the spicy seafood noodle soup. I would like to try some of their grilled items. I asked AI to describe Korean food and this was the result: "Korean food is a feast of generosity, where flavors are shared and memories are made, just like a warm hug from a close friend." The amount of love that goes into each side dish is an act of love. The side dishes perfect depict the generosity and warmth of the Korean spirit. Definitely a solid 4.5 stars, the banchan was about 11 different dishes! All were tasty too. Ordered the kimchi pancakes, definitely was a good size portion. Ordered the hot stone Bibimbup also a good portion withe rice crispy from the heat of the stone pot. The tofu on the other hand was lacking flavor. Ordered the skirt steak and marinated kalbi. There is usually a bunch of ban chan so the 2 meat dishes and pancake was going to do it. Husbands wanted to impress the server, so I let him order for us. Somehow he said rice cake instead of (BBQ) Chicken, so she wrote down tteokbokki. Hubs repeated himself just to be sure and she asked if he meant BBQ Chicken (gogi). He nodded. She repeated the whole order and somehow she added the rice cake to our order. Now, usually I never order the rice cake bc it is always so spicy it just burns my lips.
