The four of us met Li Y. at this just opened new location of Kapiolani Seafood. On this rainy day, we were so grateful that the restaurant had an underground parking lot with an elevator that takes you up to the restaurant level. The restaurant is bright and modern in décor. We checked out the menu and picked out some dishes. Bean curd rolls - we started off with this dim sum favorite as an appetizer Fish filet in black bean - Large pieces of filet. Very tasty. On choy with bean curd Braised pork belly with preserved vegetables Dried scallops with egg whites fried rice Garlic steamed shrimp over vermicelli - never had this dish. It was very good except the shrimp was a little overcooked. Garlic clams - this was a cold entrée. Different. Sweet tapioca soup - nice warm complementary dessert to close the meal. It was great to be dining at their new location. Food was good, service was efficient and friendly. Maybe we will try their dim sum in a future visit.

Opened in late Sept 2022 at the former MW Restaurant at Kapiolani Blvd and Makaloa St by co-owners Terry Cheung, a local restaurant veteran and homebuilder; and Jame Chen, a local restauranteur. Terry Chung, a Hong Kong native who arrived in HI as a teenager 32 years ago, notes that he eats out 4 x a week, and he wanted a place where he could enjoy a good meal with friends and family or entertain clients. Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant was this place. Kapiolani Seafood's Cantonese specialties include: * Dim sum. Popular items are har gau (shrimp dumpling), siu mai (pork hash with shrimp), chicken feet with abalone sauce, spare ribs with black bean sauce, sticky rice in lotus leaf, dumplings, mochi puff with pork, look fun, bean curd rolls. * Seafood. Fresh options prepared in various styles, e.g., garlic prawns, clams, lobster, honey walnut shrimp, fresh fish, crab. * Other Chinese dishes. Popular items are Peking duck, beef chow fun, noodles, fried rice, stir-fried veggies, pork belly. Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant was a popular upscale Chinese restaurant, and the two owners opened a 2nd restaurant, Honolulu Seafood Restaurant, in Feb 2024 in downtown HNL in the former Mandalay and Yong Sing Restaurants. This was 2 1/2 x larger than Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant, having 350 seats, 7 kitchen cooks, and 9 dim sum cooks, as compared to 3 kitchen cooks and 6 dim sum cooks for Kapiolani. Honolulu Seafood eventually closed in 2025 possibly due to high operational costs and lack of regular downtown business traffic on weekends. The two co-owners also opened Dim Sum Station in June 2024 in Windward City Shopping Center serving the Windward community with dim sum, fried rice, noodles, and veggies. Despite the opening of the various sister restaurants, Kapiolani Seafood also has been highly successful at its current location for the past 4 years and in Mar 2026, moved to a different location a block away on Amana St with a more modern and contemporary décor with large windows. For the past few years, Kapiolani Seafood has been my restaurant choice for dim sum. I used to enjoy going to Chinatown for dim sum; however, due to the area's increased homeless and unsafe atmosphere, it was a relief to eat at Kapiolani Seafood and although pricier, the dim sum was just as good or better, with the location in a safer area and with an upscale ambiance. And with the move to Amana St, I was excited to see one of the female supervisors from the Chinatown dim sum restaurant who now works at Kapiolani Seafood! Hubby and I would regularly have dim sum lunch on weekdays, when it was less crowded than on weekends. Dim sum made a perfect lunch, as we chose what we wanted to eat, and stopped when we were full. Our typical dim sum choices were: siu mai, har gow, steamed spareribs with black bean sauce, egg custard tarts, fried taro, hom sui gok, chicken feet, fried bean curd with sauce, shrimp look fun. We would sometimes supplement with a main entrée. All were served piping hot, flavorful, delicious, and freshly made! We recently attended a Chinese New Year dinner celebration with friends that consisted of 12 entrees. They were all flavorful and of generous portions! We also brought visiting family and friends to Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant. Staff is friendly, attentive, and efficient. Many are new, so they are gaining knowledge of the menu items. The main dining area in the new location appears to be smaller than the previous location, with tables set closer. But the new location is more upscale and modern in décor and ambiance. The interior is clean with elegant light fixtures. Each table had a fresh orchid plant as a centerpiece. It also has 3 private rooms for parties. Hours of operation are Mon to Fri 9:00a to 9:00p, Sat/Sun 8:30a to 9:00p. Free parking is available in the basement and outside adjacent parking lot. We congratulate Terry Cheung and Jame Chen on their Kapiolani Seafood move to a more contemporary building and wish them much success at this new location! We look forward to our regular dim sum lunches and trying of new entrees! Support local!

The food was amazing. We enjoyed every bite. The shrimp look fun was my favorite and the fried rice was the best. Beef broccoli was so flavorful as well. Service was fast and efficient and I loved how you instantly get acknowledged once you walk in. We also left with a small gift from them which we all thought was sweet. Only wish parking wasn't as tight.

Kapiolani Seafood's newest location ! Same great food. Excellent service. Free parking. Kapiolani Seafood now located on Amana Street where the old Shillawon Restaurant previously located. Three private rooms as well as a nice sized restaurant. Open to the public starting from tomorrow Sunday 3/08/26. Hours remaining the same. Open Monday - Friday 9am to 9pm Saturday/Sunday open 8:30 to 9pm. For now. Great time to check them out as there is parking in the basement of new location AND across the street in old location, for now..! Still my favorite dim sum and seafood restaurant in Honolulu.

Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant just relocated to Amana Street. I can verify that even though the location has changed, the same great flavors have not! My favorites are their chicken feet and beef look funn. However, this new location unfortunately doesn't have the same atmosphere. Tables are situated close togther so don't be surprised if you're sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with a stranger. The low ceiling and packed crowd also didn't leave much room for airflow. I'll definitely be back since this is my favorite dim sum spot, but I'm a little sad that they moved here.

I wanted dim sum and hubs wanted meat dishes, KAPIOLANI serves dim sum even during dinner time. Fried chives/shrimp dumplings very good Fried Taro puffs with ground pork filling, taro flavor is quite pronounced. Clams in black bean sauce-- fresh plump clams, small portion Fried S/P fish filets-didn't like the beer batter, moist flaky fish. Ong Choy is tender, usual standard fare done in garlic. It's a popular place for locals, friendly staff. Bright and cheery interior surrounded in glass wndows. Forgot to take pics only receipt is attached. ,

Sorry can't add any more updates on menu and pictures! We had the char siu Bao, Black bean spareribs, shrimp shumai, Seafood pork shumai, mochi stuffed pork, dried char Sui chow fun, crispy fried chicken wings, fried taro and abalone chicken feet everyone enjoyed the food and said the food was tasty and the service was fast and food came out hot and made fresh. They only had 1 items that sold out and we got there around 12:20 pm, but they do serve dim sum throughout the day and night, not like most dim sum restaurants only morning and lunch, after that it is what ever is left over. Lots of parking in private parking lot area other are mark for other business in the same location. Restrooms are clean

To kick off the new year, my family and I decided to give Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant a try. Dim sum is always my pick, and I really wanted this to be a better experience because I was genuinely looking forward to it - their photos and reviews looked great. Unfortunately, our visit fell a bit short. We went on the first Sunday in January, so the restaurant was understandably packed with families who had the same idea. We arrived around 10:45am and were lucky to snag the very last parking stall. Note that several stalls are designated for the Thai restaurant next door, so be mindful of where you park. Anyway, our party of 5 waited 45 mins for a table. I did call ahead hoping to make a reservation, but was informed that reservations are only accepted for parties of 5 or more after 5pm. Totally understandable for a spot that primarily serves dim sum during lunch hours. The gentleman who answered the phone was very kind and explained everything clearly and pleasantly - which I really appreciated, especially given how rushed or abrupt some dim sum restaurant interactions can be. In fact, several staff members were friendly, and that's largely why I'm giving this place 3 stars. That said... the food just wasn't our flavor. Nothing was outright "bad," but it didn't align with what we're accustomed to. Some of the wrappers were undercooked, the egg tart was straight up flavorless, and the baked char siu bun was 90% bread. Huge bummer! It's possible the kitchen was rushing due to the crowd, but either way, we didn't enjoy everything we ordered. Another surprise was the pricing. We considered ordering a crab dish similar to the "golden crab" (Chinese-style egg yolk preparation) that we often get at a nearby restaurant for about $50 on the high end. Here, we were told the price was $85 for one small Dungeness crab. Communication around this was a bit challenging, tho thankfully my daughter's bf speaks fluent Mandarin and was able to clarify. I can see this restaurant having exceptional moments when everything aligns - quality food, good service, and the right timing. Unfortunately, Sunday wasn't it for us. Our experience lacked attention, efficiency, and flavor. Still, I'm glad we gave it a try. (Didn't catch pics of everything)

If you're looking for good dim sum on Oahu this place is it! You know it's a good sign when you walk in and see all the locals there. It's located kind of in the back so you can't see it from the street. Parking is available in the back too. There are plenty of tables for small and large parties. You place your order right on the menu and your order is brought to you fresh on carts. We tried lots of items but my favorites were the pork bean curd roll and the shrimp look fun. So happy we found a great dim sum place on Oahu!

Tried the new Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant location and had a solid experience overall. Ordered dim sum to-go around 5:30pm -- super convenient and honestly one of the highlights. The pork hash was my favorite, really hit the spot. For my main meal, I went with the roast duck and roast pork combo. Both had great flavor, especially the duck. The roast pork was a bit too fatty for my liking, but if you're into that, you'll probably enjoy it. The new spot is beautiful and definitely an upgrade. Service was noticeably better than before -- might be the night crew, since my past morning visits weren't great. Only downside is the price -- $72 for one person is pretty steep. I'll be back, just not too often. Overall: good food, better service, higher price tag.

Update: I went back since my initial visit with friends as it was one of the few places that still serves dim sum in the evening. Definitely worth checking this place out if you're craving some dim sum! Everything was super yummy and it hit the spot. The food came out as it was ready so we didn't have to wait too long to start eating. Parking: there is a parking lot as the restaurant is in a shopping plaza.

Very easy to order, you just mark how many orders you'd like on the menu! It gets very busy during the day and noon! The dim sum we ordered were good, especially the look fun and shumai! However don't order the Xiao long Bao here, there was no soup in the dumplings, barely any pork, and mainly all dumpling skin :(

I don't even think I can count on my hand(s) how much times I have been here. The food almost never misses and always hit the spot. Service is decently quick and but sometimes not the best. I feel like when they aren't as busy, they seem to want to rush to get everyone out towards the end of the night. This means a lot of hovering and even ignoring while they closed up. I would say again, that the space is large and everything is clean and well kept. Please look at my previous reviews for specific dimsum recommendations & ratings, but I just usually order the same ones over and over again. This time the new thing we tried was the fried intestine. If you like intestine, I think you would LOVE this. Sometimes intestines are not the most appealing to me because of the chewy and rubbery texture. This on the other hand, was crispy on the outside and fatty/soft on the inside. It was PERFECT and DELICIOUS if you like that type of stuff.

Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant

I called many times. But no answer. The phone number is the same?

Um, I also think they moved from Kapi'olani Blvd to 747 Amanda St. Ste C101. Their phone numbers are (808) 946-8688 and (808) 381-8821.

Does your fujian style fried rice have shrimp in it?

Is dim sum available for dinner?

    Yes!

Does Dim Sum re-open from 5:00pm?

They have dim sum the whole day. If you want noodles or any of the dishes in their non-dim sum menu, you have to wait until 10 or 10:30 am.

    Is it BYOB?

    Yes

Good for large parties? Any private areas?

Space is large, but not ideal for large groups. No private area. Try checking their sister restaurant in Chinatown

    Do they use MSG?

Yes.... Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant and Honolulu Seafood Restaurant. Both are same owners...

Is there a good selection of vegetarian dishes?

I would say there's a limited selection of vegetarian dishes. You might want to ask if some of the dishes could be made for vegetarians. I've only been there once but I thought their food was outstanding in flavor and freshness.

Is dim sum for dinner too?

Nope. Last call for dim sum is 2:45PM. They close from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

Does your Mapo Tofu have meat in it or can it be made vegetarian?

You can order it as vegetarian dish.

Can you accommodate party of 50?

Yes we can, please call us at 808-946-8688 to schedule and get more details. Thank you.

Private Dining Room - The deposit is applicable to the whole meal bill? How many people seating?

Deposit will be applied to total bill. Please call us at 808-946-8688 to check availability for the rooms.

Do they offer delivery and/or takeout?

We offer take-out. Please call 808-946-8688 to place takeout order. Thank you.

Is dim sum served all day and night? If not, could we order roast duck and chicken feet after dim sum hours?

Dim Sum is only day time. Last call is 230-245pm. Then the cooks take an afternoon break till 530. No roast duck till dinner. I tried to order during dim sum hours, and it was "still roasting".

Hi if i book the private room with karaoke, is there a minimum charge? Are you still allowing byob? How many hours are we allow to be in that private room? Thanks

The minimum charge for a private room is $400. And yes, we allow BYOB. To make a reservation please call us at 808-946-8688.

How many people can sit in your private room(s)?

10-14 depending how tight you sit together.

Does the private rooms have karakoke?

    Yes we have.

    Is the place wheelchair accessible?

    Yes, it is.

Can we bring decorations in the private room for a celebration?

Absolutely you can bring your decorations!

    Is it BYOB?

    Yes, BYOB.
