Me and my 2 friends couldnt decide which skewer was our most favorite because we enjoyed every single thing we chose on the menu. I am usually not this impressed with food so this review is coming from the heart. My friends have been raving about this place for so long saying that it was "the best Chinese food outside of China" and with a statement like that, my expectations were very high. We made a reservation for 5 of us which I think was necessary-- it does get very busy and there aren't a ton of tables. What I love about this spot is that there's a grill on the table that you cook up your skewers yourself! So every skewer is piping hot and fresh. It even has this rotating mechanism to cook the meat evenly. For the price and quality, my hubby and I highly recommend Honolulu Skewer House. The preset combo for 4 people was plenty of food! And we can eat! We had ample side dishes along with various types of meats, cuts, and marinades. My Taiwanese hubby was worried everything would start tasting like cumin, which has been his experience at other Chinese skewer places. He was pleasantly surprised that the meats weren't overly seasoned with the same sauce. Service was standard - not terrible but not excellent. Just fine. Some downsides: We were sat in the corner which eventually got a bit uncomfortable for us with the heat. Perhaps some fans in that corner may help? Otherwise it was bearable. I believe my type of preference of meat isn't too different than most and the is supposed to be for popular, but the Beef Back Strap was not it for me. I couldn't finish it. Anyway, seen this place with long lines all the time A couple of times, we tried sitting in, but unfortunately, if you don't have reservations it will be a long wait till you can seat in since everyone seem to have reservations. Food was amazing. We got the dinner for 4 and we had waaaay more than enough food. Everything had Incredible flavor and tasted fresh. The service was very kind and attentive and the skewer mechanism was a nice change of pace. The only thing wrong with this place is that the area is so sketchy. You have to find street parking and there are so many homeless people everywhere. They didn't harm us directly but you could smell urine and poop just walking from the car to the restaurant. Wow - this was such a culinary experience! I went with one of my friends from China and she told me that it is apparently "the best" Northeast Chinese BBQ restaurant in North America. The review that she had heard had definitely lived up to my experience that I had there! They skewers were so delicious - we had a variety of different meats ranging from chicken to squid to lamb and everything was so good. Part of the experience is that you're cooking your skewers in front of you and it rotates the skewers for you. It's all the same flavor profile which doesn't make for a fun eating experience. The wine is $16 for a glass which is crazy expensive and sake they require you to buy the whole bottle at $60. I asked for a side of shoyu just to change it up but if you don't grow up eating five spice on all your dishes -- it might be a little lacking.
