Celebrated my birthday here this past weekend and it's always a fun time here, the vibe here is great and the food is perfect for family style sharing. Make sure to make a reservation as this place is packed. We ordered the Farmers salad, signature fried rice, pork chops, garlic chicken and the peanut butter crunch dessert to share. Everything was really good, service was great, food came out hot and quick. They valet park for $8 and with all the rain we've been having it was well worth it. Great place to come with groups!
If you're visiting Hawaii with a big group, 100% recommend taking them here. We initially were a party of 16, and showed up without a reservation at 6pm on a Saturday. The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.
So my trip back home to my Roots and 808. Few staples that always look forward to few times make it back home. Most of them really locals know not tourist spots and trademarks local food. One of them always being Side Street Inn. It been over ten years last time home now tow more locations. The one went with Ohana believe second one. I like about this one easier find and parking access better. It more open area much different vibe then the first one. I meet Ohana for end of Happy Hour. The Happy Hour menu is pretty awesome. Most of the popular items on it and say over half the menu. Just smaller portions slightly cheaper price point. The pork chop had get regular size cause so fwk good. So simple pan seared pork chop but perfection. Never had one golden crisp outside and moist but cooked perfect. U dip it in ketchup. I could have it everyday. Lucky three of us. I got try few more items. Fried rice, spicy ahi poke, garlic fries, and garlic chicken. Spicy ahi poke was so fresh and nothing better than poke back in the islands. Garlic chicken another dish known for awesome. I enjoy about Side Street Inn concept family style plates. Pork chop OMG. Love Side Street Inn! One off list tradition back in 808.
Elevated local style foods in a comfortable updated atmosphere. We had friends visiting from Belgium and wanted to give them a taste of the local flavors. The 5 of us came in on a Monday night. We had the prix fixe menu for $167 (serves 4-5 guests), and the portions were massive. Definitely family-style dining! Everything came out hot, timely, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. Honestly, the prix 4-5 menu could've fed 6-7 people easily. Although we did add the Roast Pork Poke to the order. The famous pan-fried pork chops lived up its long standing reputation . Crispy on the outside, juicy and tender inside. The pieces with the bone are pure gold!! The roast pork poke was another standout. Tender, rich and awe man sooo satisfying!! Our Belgium friends couldn't get enough. The shoyu citrus vinaigrette added a bright acidity that cut through the beautiful richness of the pork. The kalbi had great char and tenderness, though a bit on the sweet side for my taste. The kimchi fried rice hit the spot with a nice kimchi flavor that was not overpowering and easily enough to feed 7-8 people. The fried chicken could've been a touch crispier, but still packed good flavor. Service was excellent. Friendly, attentive, and quick. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed, ideal for groups or watching sports with plenty of big TVs. Our long table for five was a bit worn and could use some refinishing, but overall, this was a delicious, satisfying experience. Generous portions, great flavors, and a fun local vibe. Great place to eat with a big group of people. Their serving size is pretty ginormous and the cost is pretty economical for Hawaii. Everything we eat was delicious. My favorite was the sizzling kalbi, the pork chops, roast pork poke, and the signature fried rice. Service was very friendly and food came out really quickly. They only have valet parking, which works out perfect perfectly since parking is always hard to find. Nothing fancy just great food.
It's a great place to get a big group and come and eat. Have a drink. Such a loud fun vibe in here. Garlic chicken and fried rice is a deadly combo. Mushrooms hit the spot too. The peanut butter crunch dessert was just the best way to end the meal. Service was good, parking is valet only so be prepared for that and call Ahead for reservations it's easier.
Had to try the infamous boneless Galbi and it did not disappoint! It didn't come as hot as I thought it would be given that it was served of a steaming skillet but I was still very pleased with the flavor and tenderness. I also got the garlic fried chicken. It was a giant potion which was great and it was packed with flavor. It's like the garlic sauce was injected into the chicken instead of sitting on top or tossed in the sauce, so it still had a nice crispy bite. this was one of my favorite places on my trip and I can't wait to return when I visit Oahu again. I had Little to no wait for my table and the service itself was subpar, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt because it was a during a busy dinner rush. As for parking, they offer valet underneath in the parking garage or you can park across the way in the parking lot where it is a few dollars cheaper. Also, when looking for the building, don't look for a traditional restaurant because you won't find it lol it's actually inside of an older office like building.
I have been wanting to go here for awhile but I noticed the portions are fairly large so going there with just two people is going to be challenge to order more than one plate unless you have a refrigerator for leftovers. We landed in Hawaii late afternoon and headed over to this location for dinner with a group of six of us which was large enough to order the Family Meal for 4 - 5 people. It is really enough for 6 - 7 hungry people. Our top favorites were the Boneless Kalbi, Pork Chop, Farmers Salad and Edamame. We also had Fried Chicken and the Fried Rice. The Kalbi was tender, juicy, excellent flavor, nice grill taste and cooked perfectly. The pork chops were excellent, a little thicker than most, tender, moist, great seasoning, breaded and fried nicely. The salad was refreshing with a very nice vinaigrette dressing that was had a very smooth flavor, not overpowered with vinegar, noting a citrus taste. Edamame were big, fresh, tender and great flavor. Fried Chicken was good and fried just right with a sauce, very rich dish but good. Fried Rice with the char sui, bacon, peas, carrots and green onions was yummy. Excellent and attentive service, food came out fast, fresh and hot. Parking is Valet only underneath the building, not much in the way of street parking. Overall just an excellent meal across the board. We loved all of the dishes. Very happy we finally had a group large enough to tackle the large servings and get a variety of dishes to try. Definitely going back. We noticed they have Lunch Dishes To-Go only for one person.
It's been more than 8 years since I've been to this location, but the food and service is as good as it's always been. My SIL's brother and wife were visiting from our of state and the family wanted to all get together. We had a table of more than 10 people, plus one toddler, and we were just 1 of several large groups enjoying lunch at that time. We ordered the usual favorites of Chinese Chicken salad, garlic Chicken, fried pork chops, gyoza, pork belly, Kalbi, and fried rice. Servings are very large and designed for family style dining. It was a steady stream of food with enough at the end for leftovers. The service was quick and very helpful; they even helped us take family photos. SSI is definitely a great place for lunch and dinner, especially if you have group gatherings.
Big eats when you order a Collin's classic for 4-5 people. We had 10 adults and still had leftovers. We did order a garlic chicken and a roast pork poke and that did not disappoint. The cocktails were plentiful too. Everything was delicious. The edamame was warm with butter and garlic for an extra $2. We added kimchee to the fried rice for an extra $4. Everything was delicious. The only thing was the pork chop Was dry hence the 4 stars. We still will be back.
Such a staple whenever I visit Oahu. The portions are huge and great for large families. Wait can be awhile but I recommend making a reservation by emailing them and you get seated quickly. Just note that they only offer valet parking during dinner. My families go to orders are their -Signature Garlic Chicken -Signature Fried Rice -Sizzling Kal Bi -Pan Fried Pork Chops -Poke -Yakisoba Honestly their food is so comforting and delicious that we keep coming back for more.
Side Street Inn - a local favorite spot that needs no introduction! All of their dishes are great tasting with fresh local ingredients. We typically would even out their heavier fried or pan-fried meat dishes with their awesome salad plates. This is definitely a spot for larger groups, with food served family style. Virtually all of their dishes are great tasting and quality is always consistent. Service is also always friendly and efficient. I'm a fan and this is my go to whenever in Oahu!
Holy sh!t, what a vibe man. The Rainbow Warriors were playing Utah State, the bar was alive and the food, well the food was immortal. Top tier pork and chicken, portions big enough to fed the Hawaii football team and then some. Also the folks running the joint know how to make folks feel at home. Get a group and go on down to the Side Street Inn and have some food and fun!

The portions here are GINORMOUS. This is a family style local food restaurant and highly recommend coming with friends/family because the portions are so large, especially if you want to try different dishes. We got the fried rice and garlic fried chicken as they were popular. The garlic chicken was delicious! The flavor was savory with a hint of sweetness (slight fish sauce flavor). The chicken was nice and crispy as well. read more
Made reservation two days before by calling. Valet parking $8 in the garage. This place a great for big parties as they can accomodate the number of people and the serving is huge. There were six of us and we ordered the "Chef Colins classics" for 4-5 and had more than enough to take home. We also added suateed mushrooms which was so delicous and also fried gizards(amazing). Everything was goood fried rice,pork chops,garlic chicken and kalbi. Just FYI soda is not refillable. Our server was okay maybe she was busy but she didn't really check on us and we had to ask for water refills. Overall experience was great. read more
We came here a few day ago with some out of town friends. We went with their set meal plus some additional items. I like this location as they have a lot of free parking after six pm. Unfortunately, they will be relocating to someplace that is still in the works. The food was good. My favorites were the chicken and fried rice. Service was good and food came out fast. The place is always packed. Can't wait to see where they will locate or I will just have to go to their other location by Ala Moana. read more

Only food pictures this time! I was able to get reservations for 12 about 4 hours before they opened at 4pm. So lucky! This place fills up fast and the pace inside is just as fast. This is an old office building where the restaurant takes up half the 1st floor. There is a bar and many long tables. Not the most fancy or modern looking place to eat but homey. The menu is short yet varied. It is full of Asian inspired dishes and they offer a prix fixe deal which is affordable for larger groups of people. The food selection for the prix fixe menu also covers all a variety of proteins, carbs and there are vegetables. The service moves nonstop and is friendly, helpful and fast. You should be fast as well. The food here is the star of the show. Garlic chicken is the number one ranked dish. The Kalbi beef is right behind and the fried rice plate is so delicious. There is steamed edamame, a beautiful and mysterious salad, fried pork chops that are so moist and you can even order dessert (for an extra cost). That's all I will say. The food is the draw here. By the way they do offer valet parking under the building but there is an open lot next door where you pay a small fee using a provided QR code. Enjoy! read more

Arrived Weds early evening and wife wanted garlic fried chicken. Heard Side Street has some good chicken so decided to give it a try. To my surprise, their dinner menu is Ohana (family style) where the portions are bigger and meant for sharing. That's nice and all but what if you have just 2 people? Well, they didn't serve the plate lunches after 2pm on weekdays and their happy hour smaller plates are from 4-5:30pm on weekdays. That leaves their dinner menu which totally caught me by surprise as 8-10 pieces of their garlic fried chicken is $31. The a bowl of white rice with some furikake sprinkle is $9. Waitress said the portions were big and we'd probably have leftovers. So I decided to order it and the wife and I devoured it. It was one of the best friend chicken I've had with juicy tender pieces. The sauce is just a tad salty but with rice, it's perfect. Found my now favorite garlic fried chicken but will only go during lunch or happy hour. Have to give this place a 4 because the price is very high for chicken and white rice. Our bill came out to almost $50. Maybe we aren't used to these kind of prices and we live in California where things are pretty expensive too. I'll definitely go back and try their lunch plate and see if the value and quality of food is worth upgrading to 5 stars. read more

This place has the BEST friend chicken we've ever had!! We came here based on a recommendation of a friend and had no idea what to expect.... Well, the portions were HUGE, the food was delicious, and service was fantastic! It has definitely become one of our new favorite spots in Honolulu. read more

Whatever you do. PLEASE come here... pleaaaseeeeeee!! This is a very lowkey (but you can tell locally loved and known) spot on the second floor of what looks to be an office building. Ignore its less-than-ideal exterior and beeline straight for the rice, fries, beef and fried chicken. Literally one of the best meals I have ever had. We brought a small group of 12 for an early dinner and went for the set menu. The restaurant lot provided valet parking for $7 but the lot next door was much cheaper via payment via QR code. It took a little bit to get our entire group on site but we had reservations that were good for two hours of eating. Recommend booking in advance for large groups as we had to come before 5 as the later times were all reserved. We sat in the main dining room along with another group. For our size the set menu had a good selection of their classic dishes to share and we still had a lot of left overs to take back home. Fried chicken was juicy and crispy with a sweet garlic sauce. Boneless kalbi was a little chewy but had a nice marinade. Farmers salad was a light mix of avocados, cherry tomatoes, shrimp and crisp Okinawa potatoes. The Maui onion slices were a bit too much and could've been sliced thinner. Edamame could've used a little more salt. We also tried both the shoyu and spicy mayo poke. Shoyu was the table favorite. Overall staff did a great job taking care of the needs of our table. Checkin and waters were refilled on a regular basis. Bathrooms were located outside the restaurant and the access code was posted by the hostess desk. Will be back. read more

We got the prix fixe family set and our favorites were the farmers salad, garlic fried chicken and boneless kalbi! The pork chop was disappointing as it was a bit dry and the fried rice was a bit lacking in flavor and was kind of cold. The food here was so good!!!!! We came just the 2 of us for happy hour and the portions were just right. Still pretty big IMO for what you get! We ordered their fried rice, chicken kalbi, pork chops and potato mac salad. We couldn't finish it all and still took some home. All of the items were delicious! I got their mai tai and it's in a larger glass and pretty good but not strong. Had this bookmarked for awhile and finally got to try it this time around! My bf and I ordered the garlic edamame, signature fried rice and signature pork chops. The portions are huge! Everything seems to be family style but these 3 plates were definitely more than enough for 2 ppl! Our leftover fried rice didn't even look like we made a dent in it! The staff was very attentive and the ambiance looks like a very family oriented restaurant. We came by here after an event to eat, around 8pm on a Tuesday. This was my first time here. We valet'd the car which was helpful and easy. They were pretty busy with many large groups, but we were seated quickly. And even though the service was slower, the servers were apologetic, and very friendly and we weren't bothered. We knew the food was family style and it was just two of us. The servings are huge. And the food didn't disappoint. We ordered their signature dishes, fried rice, pan-fried pork chops, and garlic chicken. Everything was so good and delicious. And, there was leftovers for days. Walking into here without a reservation was a bold move, but it paid off! The hostess double checked reservations, did a walk through and got us seated promptly, and the staff spoke to us like an old friend. The food took a while to come out, but considering how many people were eating there, steaming food still rolls out of that kitchen at a great pace. Side note: huge kudo's to the kitchen staff! Y'all feed a loottt of people and faaaast The chicken and pork came out first. The rice took a bit of time to come out. The waitress apologized and seemed as though she felt legit embarrassed! Such a considerate person omg! She. Brought out the chicken and pork thinking in case we felt peckish, she would bring something out asap. I'll admit, it was extraordinarily tempting to pick at the crumbs and stuff, but we were patient enough to wait for the rice. By the time the rice came out, the chicken and pork were both still hot hot. Proper hot, so the wait time wasn't all that long at all. At the moment, it felt like it, but we were hungry and we were being tortured with amazing smells.. ugh! Once we started digging in, the table fell silent for a few minutes. That's how YOU KNOW our talkative selfs were hungry and really enjoying the food. The portion sizes here.. Do not.. i repeat.. DO NOT over estimate your appetite!! Their portions are not just large, they are EPIC. Here's the breakdown. 4 average weight adults and we still had 1/3rd of the rice left, 4 pieces of chicken, and 2 large pieces of pork on bone. Side street inn is a great place for large parties or doing family style with friends. Their portions are large, making it very easy to share with one another. Their menu is actually catered towards eating family style. We ate a chicken dish, a fried rice dish, a salad and finished off with a dessert. We were able to call to make a reservation ahead of time. Our waitress was attentive, despite all the large parties they were catering to. This spot for dinner was a revelation while staying down the street. We arrived before the end of Happy Hour and our server let us know the regular servings were served family style and pretty big. The Happy Hour menu was smaller servings. The Happy Hour menu is pretty extensive so you can try lots of things. We had the edamame, the chicken misoyaki, the garlic chicken, the fried rice, the yakisoba, the bone-in kalbi, and the wing zings. The garlic chicken was amazing - boneless chicken with a crunchy skin and coating that was super juicy and tasty. The yakisoba was one of the best I have had. Maybe more of chow mein, but super tasty with great ingredients. The fried rice was also top tier - great ingredients, not overly seasoned. The kalbi was just okay - no real complaints. The wing zings were crispy wings with a small amount of spice - solid wings without sauce (my preference). We finished with a peanut butter crunch dessert, which was quite good. We saw the full size orders of food go by and the portions are huge! The plate of fried rice was the size of a football. Our server told us the garlic chicken irder was about 2 pounds of chicken! The pork chops looked amazing but we'll get those next time. Even the salads looked huge. I see how this place works for large groups. The entrance is a little strange - you enter off of Kapahulu and it just looks like an office building. But once inside, it feels very old school. Even the bar and drinks feel old school. This is a total find. We actually came 2 days later and this time had the fried rice, garlic chicken, yakisoba (all three again), plus the fish with furikake breading, pork chops, and farmers salad. This made my top 5 favorite food in Hawaii! This restaurant was not even in my itinerary, but suggested by a friend who has been to Hawaii multiple times. I was skeptical at first because the food seems quite basic....but HOLY MOLY i don't know what they do that's different, but I've never ate food like this in LA!! It's definitely a place I'll go to again. My friends and I decided to get the Chef Collin's Classic, which is enough for 5+ people. The portions ARE HUGE. We had a lot of leftovers (and my friends and I can each EAT #bigbacks)! My favorite from the family set menu was the sizzling boneless kalbi and the signature garlic chicken. My friends had gift cards for Side Street, so we decided to get dinner here. We made reservations earlier, and good thing we did because the restaurant was packed on a Monday night. Valet parking was $7, so we ended up parking elsewhere for free and walked over. To make things simple, we ordered the Chef Colin's special to share among 4 of us. It came with edamame, salad, fried rice, pork chops, kalbi, and garlic chicken. This was more than enough food, and everyone had lunch for the next day. Everything was so flavorful, but my favorite was definitely the garlic chicken. The chicken was moist with the perfect crispy outside and seasoned perfectly. If you are ordering ala carte, I'd probably skip the pork chops, as this was a little dry. Service was excellent and our waitress had a good sense of humor. The food came out quickly. Overall, very comforting Hawaii food, but it is a little pricey for what you're getting. I would recommend here for big parties for great food. read more

Aloha Stacy! The place is known for group gatherings so yes there is the menu that is practically a la carte. For example their famous deep fried pork chops serves up to 3 to 4 people and the cost is close to $30.
