Ok I went to try this place cause I saw it in IG but when I got inside I saw that they had sweet sour spare ribs for a special so I ordered it automatically since I'm always looking for good s&s spare ribs. It was the first time I ever saw the sauce was orange/red. So I dug in and found the meat was very dry. They hid the dryness with all the sauce. We'll support local so I have to go back and try something else so I can increase their rating. If you guys tried this place what's your go to plate? Mahalo and Aloha!
I feel like they have everything here. The spicy chicken was pretty standard, and they give a very generous amount even for a mini (very standard of Kalihi). They serve breakfast all day as well so people who are a fan of breakfast would love it here lol. If you sit at the tables to eat in their establishment they'll bring the food to you. Service was fast and that's pretty much all we want LOL. This place is a take-out or take your meal and sit at a table to dine-in. Has some dine-in seating, but majority of the time I see people taking out and going home.
Came over for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. French toast and bacon/mushroom were fine. They have parking and good air conditioning - food is fine, on par with the reasonable prices

Ordered the Seafood combo with chicken katsu for takeout. I wish the chicken they offered the fried chicken and not teriyaki chicken. A key for a local plate lunch, they give plenty. Service, a free coke. Nice. Katsu is good. Shrimp is good. Mac salad solid. Fried fish is good. They check all the boxes for a plate lunch place plenty, tasty and good value.
I decided to pick up a lemon chicken for lunch during the week from I Love Grill. It is a small restaurant right on N School Street with a few tables inside to sit down. They also have a small parking lot in the front that can get crowded during the lunch and dinner rushes. The lemon chicken was great! Crispy and not too oily. I got the regular plate and it was enough for me to split it and eat the left overs for the next day. I would definitely got back to try a few other items on their menu.
We went there around 9:00 am and decided to try some of his lunch items. I ordered Beef curry mini plate which came with rice & Mac salad and beef curry, it came out hot and it was very flavorful and tasty, some of the meat was tough and some tender, but overall it was good. My wife ordered the beef stew mini plate and it came out hot, but it was on the sweet side, which she didn't care for, so I tried it and yes it was not like the local style beef stew it was very sweet which the sweetness dominated the stew flavor and she had a lot of tough meats, told her that most restaurant use clods it the cheaper cuts and if they don't cook it long enough it is tough. The staff is friendly like always
This place is the best. I get the $9.99 breakfast plate or just the pancakes in the morning. I liked the pancakes so much that I would even order them in the afternoon, (3)pancakes for only $6...McDonald's gives you these small ass pancakes for the same amount of money. My go-to plate lunch now is the BBQ mix plate. You can't go wrong with the chicken katsu plate lunch or the chicken katsu musubi either from this place. Drive up, park, and order what I mentioned earlier and you won't be disappointed. This place is the best!

Chicken Katsu was light, crispy, and a huge offering which came out to be about 3 pieces of chicken in a mini! Cold ginger chicken with extra sauce, solid mini plate. Mini meat jun (special) was different--the meat was cut up before being dipped in the egg and fried. The taste was ok, but it wasn't what I would call a traditionl looking meat jun, and there seemed to be much less. Chicken cutlet mini with brown gravy sauce; it was different than the katsu, as it was a bit more dense and had more of a firm texture, and didn't have as much chicken as the first katsu plate did. So far, so good. We will be back for lunch again. It's convenient, service was polite and they will bring the food to you if you are eating in.
Stopped by I Love Grill, a newer spot down the street this morning for breakfast. I went with the special combo of the day, which came with mochiko chicken and loco moco, while my girlfriend tried the chicken katsu. The mochiko chicken was tasty and definitely the highlight of my plate. The loco moco, on the other hand, was pretty average. The patty was the same type you'd expect from a basic burger, so nothing too special there. My girlfriend enjoyed the chicken katsu and I thought it was decent. The sauce stood out since it was more tomato based than the usual katsu sauce, which gave it a different twist. One nice thing is that their specials include a drink which adds a little extra value. Plus, they open at 7am, making it a convenient option if you're looking for an early meal.
Got a few burgers and crinkle fries. They had a 2 burger deluxe combo with two large drinks for $18.36 (price was not on the sign near the counter). Burgers were good, but I refuse to give 5 stars for a frozen patty. Would be better if it were homemade. They have a pretty standard L&L style menu with plate lunches and burgers. Service was courteous and quick. Dine-in tables were clean. Parking is very hit or miss. There's only a handful of stalls out front. Quick turnover may result in a stall opening up if you wait. There aren't a lot of great street parking options nearby.
Breakfast in Kalihi, Honolulu, Hawaii... While my friend's car was being serviced, I took her to this Hot New Business called, "I Love Grill". It's kind of like L&L - order and pay with the cashier. If it's not busy, they'll bring your meal to your table. Usually, they'll call out your number when your meal is ready. Inside is very spacious and clean. Outside, the parking was congested because of construction. It should have cleared up by now. I got the shrimp and mushroom omelet with toast... yummy! They didn't have wheat toast, but that's ok. The cashier brought two little jelly containers to me later. I had a nice experience here. I wish 'I Love Grill" much success, prosperity and happiness! Thanks for the cheerful and efficient service!
I was so surprised!! I passed by this place before thinking, "oh another plate lunch plate that won't do so well". But I gave it a shot anyway. The cashier was really nice and had good service. There's a dining area but most people just take out. I ordered the Kalua pork mini and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. It was flavorful and juicy. The cabbage was a bit too thin for my liking but it was still good! It was also a good ratio of cabbage to pork. Mac salad is pretty decent as well. Partner got the steak and garlic shrimp, and i actually really liked the shrimp! Large, plump shrimp. Pleasantly crispy and seasoned well. After a few shrimp it started to have a weird aftertaste though... The steak I didn't try but they said it was pretty good. Prices are decent for good plates! Would go again.

Saw the reviews and was in the area so I had to try it! Stopped in and ordered the lemon chicken. This is my standard at these type of places... Food showed up and it was a decent portion and the it looked good! Tried the sauce and it was just okay... Overall the chicken looked good but wasn't crunchy and was a little bland. The sauce was too sweet for me... Overall a miss for me, but maybe other things on the menu are good. Will attempt again if I'm in the area... read more

We decided to try here after speaking with the owner, Choy.I asked if he could save a table for five people. Nowadays, most places only seat four. He said no problem and there we are. We got there about 12:30 on Monday. There's about six tables i think and couple benches for people doing pick up. I think more people do pick up them actually dine in. The parking spaces are limited with maybe 7 stalls. Choy did mention that you can park in the back of the service station next door or street parking. I haven't had Loco Moco and beef stew in a while so I got those two entrees in a mixed plate. It was good. I really enjoyed it. Their specialty is garlic shrimp. I will be back to try that with steak. I noticed their breakfast combo. It includes, ham, bacon, Portuguese sausage and spam. That's a carnivore's dream. All the different meats on one plate. Nice and clean just opened for a few weeks. Took over Aunty Z's restaurant across the Kalihi's Rainbow Drive in. There's a convenient small parking lot in front. Located off of the busy School St and near Houghtailing St. "I Love Grill" served some local comfort food.which is similar to local drive in restaurants. They offer mini and regular plates and a few plates on their healthy menu with 1 scoop of brown rice and a toss green salad. The chicken wings were nice and crunchy yet juicy. I'm not sure but it's like those double fried chicken wings which had more of a crunch! Best to eat it right away! The Mac salad had some grated carrots and perhaps a touch of chopped parsley. The rice was on the drier side and not like what I'm used to having. Perhaps they can perfect that. The beef stew was pretty good with one big potato and carrot and about 5 pieces of beef in a bowl container. They have a catering menu too. You can dine in their nice size dining area with a tv monitor. There was a long waiting bench at the front as you wait. Nice addition to the Kalihi area! read more

Picked up food for the airport. I got the daily special which was a loco moco and mochiko chicken plate. It comes with 2 scoops of rice and Mac salad. This special also came with a drink. $16.95. Not a bad deal. The hamburger patty and the gravy in the loco moco was flavorful. The mochiko chicken was still crispy and not soggy at the airport. That was tasty too. I just wish the chicken were in bigger chunks vs long thinner pieces. Friendly service with good size portions and comparable prices. They offer a huge variety on their menu. read more

Been enjoying this spot for months now. The deep fried chicken wings is my go to, and I tried this katsu BBQ chicken special which was okay. The BBQ chicken was delicious. The katsu was a bit thin and hard to chew. Kitchen and dining area is clean. Lots of free parking. Staff are nice. read more

Decided to give this new business a try. It's your nice new Lnl clone. Got the lemon chicken/chicken katsu combo. I'll start off with the positives. The thickness of the chicken was nice and thick. The rice was made well. macaroni salad was better than average. Please fix your katsu sauce and lemon chicken sauce. The katsu sauce was not edible it tasted like ketchup and the color was off, kinda milky color. Based on this it seems as if the chef never ate chicken katsu. Lemon chicken sauce was the junky vinegar medicine type. read more

Ordered the regular roast pork w/gravy. Meat was super hard & tough. Very hard to chew. It was $18.06 that's including tax. Very disappointed. I couldn't finish eating it. Thats how hard & chewy it was. Meat looks like it's been sitting out all day & they just put the gravy on it as u order. read more

Went in to order food to go, and Choy took my order right away. He was kind of busy and was attending to other clients before I got there but got to me pretty quick. I ordered their NY Steak plate, side of garlic shrimp, did a combination of their specials of meat jun and their sweet sour ribs. Steak and shrimp was onolicious as always, the meat jun practically melted in my mouth. Very tender and soft. It came with jun sauce which in my opinion did not need the sauce at all. He should have given me less sauce than that because it was in a 4 oz. soufflé cup. The sweet and sour ribs was also good and very tender. I ate the combo of sweet sour ribs and meat jun very quickly. And I normally take my time eating. So you know it was very delicious. The vibe in the place was warm and inviting as always. So everyone go and check them out. They have a few in-store specials. So you'd have to go in to check it out. Will be back again definitely! read more

Checking out I Love Grill for the first time. After passing by a few times I decided to dine in while waiting for other things on the schedule. Service is great from the friendly staff. Seating is open and suitable for small groups. Food comes out quick. Hot crispy. Few words needed for good fried food. Thanks guys hope to see you again! read more
