My new favorite BBQ plate lunch...this place is the best!
    Zachary K.

This place is the best. I get the $9.99 breakfast plate or just the pancakes in the morning. I liked the pancakes so much that I would even order them in the afternoon, (3)pancakes for only $6...McDonald's gives you these small ass pancakes for the same amount of money. My go-to plate lunch now is the BBQ mix plate. You can't go wrong with the chicken katsu plate lunch or the chicken katsu musubi either from this place. Drive up, park, and order what I mentioned earlier and you won't be disappointed. This place is the best!

We went there around 9:00 am and decided to try some of his lunch items. I ordered Beef curry mini plate which came with rice & Mac salad and beef curry, it came out hot and it was very flavorful and tasty, some of the meat was tough and some tender, but overall it was good. My wife ordered the beef stew mini plate and it came out hot, but it was on the sweet side, which she didn't care for, so I tried it and yes it was not like the local style beef stew it was very sweet which the sweetness dominated the stew flavor and she had a lot of tough meats, told her that most restaurant use clods it the cheaper cuts and if they don't cook it long enough it is tough. The staff is friendly like always

Lunch time grindz. We have visited twice, and both hubs and I tried different mini-plates. Chicken Katsu was light, crispy, and a huge offering which came out to be about 3 pieces of chicken in a mini! Cold ginger chicken with extra sauce, solid mini plate. Mini meat jun (special) was different--the meat was cut up before being dipped in the egg and fried. The taste was ok, but it wasn't what I would call a traditionl looking meat jun, and there seemed to be much less. Chicken cutlet mini with brown gravy sauce; it was different than the katsu, as it was a bit more dense and had more of a firm texture, and didn't have as much chicken as the first katsu plate did. So far, so good. We will be back for lunch again. It's convenient, service was polite and they will bring the food to you if you are eating in.

Stopped by I Love Grill, a newer spot down the street this morning for breakfast. I went with the special combo of the day, which came with mochiko chicken and loco moco, while my girlfriend tried the chicken katsu. The mochiko chicken was tasty and definitely the highlight of my plate. The loco moco, on the other hand, was pretty average. The patty was the same type you'd expect from a basic burger, so nothing too special there. My girlfriend enjoyed the chicken katsu and I thought it was decent. The sauce stood out since it was more tomato based than the usual katsu sauce, which gave it a different twist. One nice thing is that their specials include a drink which adds a little extra value. Plus, they open at 7am, making it a convenient option if you're looking for an early meal.

Got a few burgers and crinkle fries. They had a 2 burger deluxe combo with two large drinks for $18.36 (price was not on the sign near the counter). Burgers were good, but I refuse to give 5 stars for a frozen patty. Would be better if it were homemade. They have a pretty standard L&L style menu with plate lunches and burgers. Service was courteous and quick. Dine-in tables were clean. Parking is very hit or miss. There's only a handful of stalls out front. Quick turnover may result in a stall opening up if you wait. There aren't a lot of great street parking options nearby.

Breakfast in Kalihi, Honolulu, Hawaii... While my friend's car was being serviced, I took her to this Hot New Business called, "I Love Grill". It's kind of like L&L - order and pay with the cashier. If it's not busy, they'll bring your meal to your table. Usually, they'll call out your number when your meal is ready. Inside is very spacious and clean. Outside, the parking was congested because of construction. It should have cleared up by now. I got the shrimp and mushroom omelet with toast... yummy! They didn't have wheat toast, but that's ok. The cashier brought two little jelly containers to me later. I had a nice experience here. I wish 'I Love Grill" much success, prosperity and happiness! Thanks for the cheerful and efficient service!

I was so surprised!! I passed by this place before thinking, "oh another plate lunch plate that won't do so well". But I gave it a shot anyway. The cashier was really nice and had good service. There's a dining area but most people just take out. I ordered the Kalua pork mini and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. It was flavorful and juicy. The cabbage was a bit too thin for my liking but it was still good! It was also a good ratio of cabbage to pork. Mac salad is pretty decent as well. Partner got the steak and garlic shrimp, and i actually really liked the shrimp! Large, plump shrimp. Pleasantly crispy and seasoned well. After a few shrimp it started to have a weird aftertaste though... The steak I didn't try but they said it was pretty good. Prices are decent for good plates! Would go again.

Nice and clean just opened for a few weeks. Took over Aunty Z's restaurant across the Kalihi's Rainbow Drive in. There's a convenient small parking lot in front. Located off of the busy School St and near Houghtailing St. "I Love Grill" served some local comfort food.which is similar to local drive in restaurants. They offer mini and regular plates and a few plates on their healthy menu with 1 scoop of brown rice and a toss green salad. The chicken wings were nice and crunchy yet juicy. I'm not sure but it's like those double fried chicken wings which had more of a crunch! Best to eat it right away! The Mac salad had some grated carrots and perhaps a touch of chopped parsley. The rice was on the drier side and not like what I'm used to having. Perhaps they can perfect that. The beef stew was pretty good with one big potato and carrot and about 5 pieces of beef in a bowl container. They have a catering menu too. You can dine in their nice size dining area with a tv monitor. There was a long waiting bench at the front as you wait. Nice addition to the Kalihi area!

    Loco moco and mochiko plate

Picked up food for the airport. I got the daily special which was a loco moco and mochiko chicken plate. It comes with 2 scoops of rice and Mac salad. This special also came with a drink. $16.95. Not a bad deal. The hamburger patty and the gravy in the loco moco was flavorful. The mochiko chicken was still crispy and not soggy at the airport. That was tasty too. I just wish the chicken were in bigger chunks vs long thinner pieces. Friendly service with good size portions and comparable prices. They offer a huge variety on their menu.

Been enjoying this spot for months now. The deep fried chicken wings is my go to, and I tried this katsu BBQ chicken special which was okay. The BBQ chicken was delicious. The katsu was a bit thin and hard to chew. Kitchen and dining area is clean. Lots of free parking. Staff are nice.

Regular roast pork & gravy plate.

Ordered the regular roast pork w/gravy. Meat was super hard & tough. Very hard to chew. It was $18.06 that's including tax. Very disappointed. I couldn't finish eating it. Thats how hard & chewy it was. Meat looks like it's been sitting out all day & they just put the gravy on it as u order.

    Lemon chicken chicken katsu combo
    Gina H.

Decided to give this new business a try. It's your nice new Lnl clone. Got the lemon chicken/chicken katsu combo. I'll start off with the positives. The thickness of the chicken was nice and thick. The rice was made well. macaroni salad was better than average. Please fix your katsu sauce and lemon chicken sauce. The katsu sauce was not edible it tasted like ketchup and the color was off, kinda milky color. Based on this it seems as if the chef never ate chicken katsu. Lemon chicken sauce was the junky vinegar medicine type.

Every single item on the food and drink menu is crafted with such robust flavor with so much dimension in each bite. The drink menu is unique, I had a cocktail I can't remember the name of it but it had plum something and was created by one of the servers there. So cool to see employees own work on the menu, he shared with us how hard and long he worked on the craft cocktail to make it perfect. Now this is a bartender! Would definitely recommend making a reservation, unless it's just you and maybe one other than the bar is mostly open seating I think. I got lucky and walked in on a Sunday night and there happened to be two open seats at the bar which i hear is unheard of due to the popularity that is this restaurant. It took over 15 minutes just to get water and our cocktails, and our main dishes arrived before our appetizer. The appetizer didn't come out until the end of the meal, which was disappointing. The restaurant is quite small, and the tables are very close together, so it didn't feel as comfortable or relaxing as I had hoped. I think I'll stick to enjoying Fete for lunch rather than dinner in the future. There's definitely potential, but the timing and overall dining experience could use some improvement.

Honey drizzle which wasn't too sweet...or maybe I just ate the parts that didn't have. Baby ate almost 1.5 pieces and even liked the Jalapeno Butter that I just dabbed on her bread. She said wasn't spicy but think she just didn't have enough. - Bone Marrow - lit it on fire to burn off the alcohol. Pretty sure it ddin't get it all so I cut baby off once I realized it. The smoked octopus was sliced in pieces that were too thick and a little too chewy and the andouille sausage and black pepper overpowered the dish. Ordered the bourbon and bone marrow mostly for the presentation. It was WAAAY too rich and needed more bread to go with it. They should've served it with bread that wasn't buttered because the buttered bread even though tasty by itself was just too rich in combination with all of that bone marrow. The dish needed more balance. The ice cream sundae was unremarkable. Would have preferred it served with a choice of hot fudge or the caramel drizzle and since it was plain vanilla ice cream they could've drizzled a lot more caramel over it. The waitress did bring us more nuts when we asked, but they were busy at the time and she was the only server so it took her a while to get to us, and the ice cream was pretty melted by the time she delivered. We got there when they opened at 5 PM and they had two servers at that time. The place wasn't busy so it seemed like they had enough help for the amount of tables that were being seated. An hour and a half later, though, one server was missing (possibly taking a lunch break) and the only server remaining at several big parties to take care of which slowed down her responsiveness to the other smaller tables like ours. The music playing in the background seemed to fit the environment and was pleasant to listen to. It's a pretty casual atmosphere. The prices for what you get are a bit on the high end. Probably wouldn't go back unless someone else is paying. We didn't feel too bad this time because we had a gift certificate which covered most of our bill. Maybe we were choosing all the wrong items and should have just stuck to ordering meat dishes, which they might be better at making (with a name like Livestock). You'll have to check this place out yourself and see if they do a better job with meat and if the prices for those dishes are more reasonable. I gave this place four stars instead of three because the servers were friendly, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the food was mostly okay (tasty enough and filling).

The batter was light and crispy with great flavors and had a yummy sauce drizzled on top. It also came with a scoop of rice, buttered corn, and Mac salad. Mac salad was delicious! Prime rib sandwich came with salad and au jus sauce and a side of salad. It's good but also very filling. I didn't try the burger or teriyaki chicken but was told both were delicious. After dinner, we ordered a few items from the bakery to eat on the plane. You have to take a number and wait for them to call it. I got 2 kouign Amannn, 2 Dubai coco puff, and half dozen green tea puff. The kouign amann is a circular croissant. I liked that it was soft and flaky and had a sweet, crispy glaze over it. The Dubai coco puff had a strong pistachio crunchy flavor but I thought it was way too sweet for me personally. The Star of the show are the green tea cream puffs! I would come back to just order that! The top filling tasted like a thick creamy brown butter green tea-flavored icing. I'd never been to their other locations, so this was my first experience -- and honestly, it left an impression. That spot in Kapolei has seen a few restaurants come and go over the years. Before Scratch Kitchen, there was Sugar Cane, and if I reach far enough back, I'm pretty sure a Mexican restaurant lived there too. It's one of those spaces where you hope the next place finally sticks. But the food at Scratch Kitchen? Absolutely delicious. The kind of meal where the pictures alone make your mouth water. If "smell‑a‑vision" or "lick‑your‑screen" technology existed, everyone would understand exactly what I mean. Every dish was full of flavor, beautifully done, and perfect for a Mother's Day treat. Which is why I can't help but wonder what happened -- like so many restaurants before them in that same location. With food that good, you'd hope they'd be the ones to break the cycle. All in all, I'm grateful I got to enjoy that meal with my daughter. It was memorable, delicious, and one of those small moments you hold onto. Marie

Either way, it made for a super relaxed experience with no wait and plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the food. Loved: The street tacos with the tempura shrimp were easily the star of the meal. 100% worth it. Light, crispy shrimp with a flavorful slaw and just the right amount of heat--basically a flavor party in every bite. The burger was another quiet star. Juicy patties, nicely seasoned, and stacked just right. Nothing super flashy, but really satisfying. Definitely a good pick if you're not in the mood for brunchy stuff. The Miss: Tried the French toast and... meh. It looked great on the plate but tasted dry and definitely didn't live up to the level of the other dishes. Might've just been an off day or a matter of personal taste, but I'd skip it next time.

I know this is a revered institution, but our visit just wasn't very good. The pastries were just okay; we tried a few cake slices that were fine but unremarkable. The cinnamon roll was dry and hard, the malasadas were forgettable, and the haupia-filled malasada was surprisingly tart. It's possible some ingredients were locally sourced and just unfamiliar to our mainland palates, or maybe we simply caught them on an off day. The servers were curt but friendly, likely because the place was packed with tourists.

It was so sad this business is closing down by Oct 31st. With rising food costs, inflation and…read morestaffing, it's understandable but I wish best endeavors for Chef Jason Peel and his staff. My fiance won a gift card actually 2 of them (from his coworker whom could not get a reservation secured), we knew we had to make the trip over before they officially close. We had multiple dishes, but staff made Kauai prawns and tomato miso black cod dishes on the house since they ran out the Hokkaido scallops. We ordered the short ribs, lobster appetizer, hamachi crudo and lastly sashimi moriawase to finish food palate. Lukki lemon dessert was great way to end to night. Ordered the Milk tea bouquet cocktail while my better half had water ( either way the food coma knock him out cold the rest of the night lol). To be honest, it was difficult to determine which dish was the best because the staff kept quality there despite it being busy every night since they announce the closure. Sashimi moriawase, fish was so fresh, reminded me of my time spent in Hokkaido and Sapporo. Short ribs was soft and rich in flavor. Both me and my fiance liked the lukki lemon dessert, like lemon meringue pie but broken down version. If you have a chance to dine here before closing and got a reservation, definitely will have a lovely dining experience and your stomach will be full by end of the night.

We had leftovers for breakfast the next day! - For appetizers we got: Ulu Tots, Japanese Eggplant, and Corn Beignets. The Corn Beignets was the best. - For entree we got: Tomato Miso Black Cod and the Short Rib. Both were delicious and worth a try. Sad to see that this restaurant appears to be closing.
