Food is always good here. I try to get the special of the week. For some reason I wasn't given a number for my order and when it came up I went to the window to get my beef chow funn. After some discussion I was allowed to take it. I did have my receipt and it wasn't crowded. Take-out only. Too bad they don't have stuffed duck. Usually orders are quick if no long line. Watch out for the street person who comes to steal the pens. I was in his way one time.

So many yelpers yelp about this place. So since we had a pickup at safeway we decided to pick up lunch here. We ordered the sweet sour pork and beef chow fun. It was both good. Their ordering system is great one line to order and next side for the pick up. Luckily they have chairs to sit and wait for your orders. They do give alot. We came when they just opened. But they are busy with take out and ordering there. Will be back again.

Such a solid spot for yummy, comforting Chinese food. The beef choy sum was simple but done perfectly -- tender slices of beef with fresh, crisp-tender greens in a light savory sauce. It tasted clean and well-balanced, not greasy at all. The garlic eggplant tofu was one of my favorites. The eggplant was silky and soaked up all that garlicky sauce, and the tofu added a nice hearty texture. Super flavorful and satisfying. The house fried rice was packed with ingredients and had that perfect wok hei flavor. Each bite had a good mix of protein and veggies, and it wasn't overly oily like some places can be. And the roast duck -- crispy skin, juicy meat, and rich flavor. Definitely a must-order. Everything came out hot and fresh, portions were generous, and it felt like true comfort food. I'll definitely be back when I'm craving classic Chinese dishes done right.

We visited Asian Mix located in the same place as Safeway Beretania. Known for their Roasted Meats. We tried the Gon Lo Mein and Roast Pork. The Roast Pork was done perfectly. Crispy Skin and moist and tender inside. The Gon Lo Mein was okay. It was freshly made, but was missing something. It was similar in taste and texture to Fried Saimin. Their interpretation of Gon Lo Mein didn't match our flavor profile. Service was efficient. Take out only. They've taken away the small area of tables and chairs. Worth a visit just for their "Roasted" meats.

We were in town, felt like eating Chinese food and heard about their roasted meats so decided to give it a try. So many selections to choose from so I asked the worker there and he suggested the 4 meats that I could choose from over rice. The choices were Roast Duck, Roast Pork, Cold Ginger Chicken and Char Siu. I ordered all 4...2 in each plate so we could taste all. We liked the Roast Pork and Cold Ginger Chicken...both were tasty but I thought here was more fat than meat for the Roast Pork. I did like the crispy skin...yum! As for the other 2 meats, there was more bone than meat for the Roast Duck as expected but it was tasty. The Char Siu had a different texture that I'm not used to so I didn't care for it...don't think I'd order this again. Spoke to a friend about this place...she recommended the Honey Roasted Spareribs with a side of Choi sum so I'll try that next and other selections! I looked over their menu after I put in my order and saw quite a few items I wanted to try so I'll be back! Lots of parking below Beretania Safeway. This place is also located below Safeway. The guy that helped me was nice and didn't rush me to order...really patient which I appreciated a lot!

    More dirt

Wouldn't trust the staff properly following hygiene standards, didn't even eat the food after I saw dirt inside the veggies which means they didn't wash them properly. God knows what else they didn't properly do with the rest of the meal. And the price is a rip off for how little meat there was on the chicken, mostly bones.

Nice take out order, container full of delicious Goodness!!!

Niece from California, brought takeout crispy Gau gee noodle from Asian Mix & I really enjoyed it! The noodles were so delicious and the crispy Gau gee was filled with plenty of pork filling. Four came with the order. Vegetables were plentiful & tasty! If ever in the area, will stop for more good Chinese food!

Asian Mix - I believe - has been an original tenant when they built the Safeway on Beretania Street. I haven't been here since the pandemic. It is strictly takeout as all tables are gone. Got the Crispy Chicken Plate. Portion was generous. Taste was good....there were a few dry pieces. Salt was provided in a separate 2 oz. container. Rice was a bit old and provided in a separate paper container. Daily hours are from 10a to 10p. Lots of parking in the Safeway parking garage.

For Father's Day lunch, thought I'd order Chinese takeout from Asian Mix. My parents are regulars, but I hadn't been in a while, so I gave the establishment a whirl. Phoned in my order twenty minutes prior to the appointed pickup time, and voilà, my order was ready when I arrived, boxed to go and piping hot! As Joyce mentioned in a previous review, Asian Mix has blocked off their doorway: the cashier is there, so you can't go in the business, per se. There are two lines: L side to order, R side for pickup. If you're ordering on the fly, I advise that you keep a copy of the menu handy (http://www.hiasianmix.com/a-la-carte.html). Otherwise, you'll need eagle eyes to see their menu signage! We ordered a lot of food: chicken and vegetable with pan-fried noodle, half a roast duck (they give sauce in a separate container), eggplant and pork in garlic sauce (this is basically yuxiang eggplant, not too spicy), choy sum with oyster sauce, lamb with fresh leeks, Singapore Noodles, and rice for 6 people. Everything was terrific: fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned, not overly-sauced. For me, two outstanding dishes were the duck, which was exceptionally meaty, juicy, and flavorful with crackly skin (no need for the sauce, because the duck was good as is! Hong Kong style, as advertised!), and the lamb with fresh leeks, which our family devoured: no leftovers for the latter! Bill came out to $115, and we still had leftovers, even with four hungry people. We definitely could've fed 6-7. Asian Mix for the win!

A 1-star review says "Not good" per Yelp. It was NOT GOOD. I'm not sure what happened since the last time I visited Asian Mix. New owners? New chef? Main chef on vacation? Changed business practices and decided efficiency and low cost over quality and time? Everyone working there were not the same people since my last visit. I wish I checked some of the recent reviews before I came here, especially the one from Akemi O. with the photo of the excess amount of oil in the fried noodles! That was the experience I got from the Country Style Rice Noodle. It was a generous amount, but this made me sick for two days. The noodles were oily! The dish was felt and ate like it was all premade, mixed around, dumped some reused oil, warmed, and just sits in a pan. NOTHING felt like it touched a wok. Zero wok heat, no char on anything--not even the slightest. The noodles were still a little hard, onions were bright white, bell peppers ate raw, and the char siu was just sliced in there, and also plenty of oil at the bottom of the box. Yikes! Also ordered the Chicken with Vegetables. I have never seen it served this way before. It's like they just put the vegetables on the bottom of the box and poured chicken on top of it. You can obviously tell by the clumped-up corn starch/water mixture around the dish. The sauce on the chicken stuck together while the bottom of the box was watery from the vegetables. Taste was weird. Chicken was bland and had a weird texture. Vegetables were okay, but on the hard side. The prices have gone up quite often recently too. It used to be very affordable as it was only a takeout place. Now it's almost the same price, or even more expensive than at a sit-down restaurant. Sigh, I'd like to know what happened. Preparation and cooking are very off. Sorry, can't consider coming here any time soon.

Fried Noodles - Lot of oil.
    Akemi O.

Well you don't go to Chinese restaurants for friendly service, and you don't get it here either. But they are fairly efficient...well the older ones. Younger ones...well let's just say they are a work-in-progress. Wanted cake noodles. Not an option, so got fried noodles with chicken and choy sum. You can't eat there, so got the sauce separate...makes sense right? No sense order fried noodles to eat it all soggy. But 50 cents extra to split it. All Chinatown Chinese already assume take out will be separated...maybe it's already factored in and everyone pays it. Whatever but it just looks shady when you charge for something that should be done anyway. Not much taste. Lot of gravy for very little flavor. Baby liked it after I dunked it into a different dish I had from Chinatown. Lot of oil in noodles but to be expected...not much noodles either though. Convenient location. But the birds outside. BLEH. I guess makes it like Chinatown...

It's just a counter to order. No where to sit. Roast duck is to die for. Juicy, meaty, just the right saltiness, fatty. On a bed of hot rice, cushioned in blanched choisum I couldn't ask for more.

    Lauren M.

Asian Mix is where I go when I want to eat Roast Duck. The flavor is good and the pieces are meaty and not just bones. We also like their Roast Pork and Char Siu here, and it's not salty like it is at other places. They often are out of duck if you call too late, so best to call early if you know you want to order it.

    Do they do Kalbi ribs?

    No Kalbi ribs

I can't find the menu so I can order in advance. How do I know what to order?

Please call them for their daily menu and to place phone orders. They are not partnered with UberEats or Door Dash at this time.

Do they use msg in their food?

Spoke the the cashier this afternoon and he said that if asked they could reduce the amount of MSG used in their dishes but could not guarantee no MSG as many ingredients used in Chinese cooking (not only at Asian Mix) contain some MSG.

Can I make a take out order the day before or do they only take same day orders?

I would think order on day of pick up, but order early as when you go to pick up you usually have to wait. It’s frustrating...sometimes we order an hour before pickup but when we get there they didn’t have our order ready.. just be aware.

Since this is a carry out place, is there a place to eat close to the restaurant. I'll be coming by Uber?

yes,, this place is located UNDER the Safeway.. There are several tables adjacent to this place, convenient and clean too.

Do they offer steam buns to eat the roast duck with? If not, any tips on where to find? I need some roast duck after looking at those pics!!

You prob gotta go to a restaurant for that. Asian mix is more of a take out joint. Try call golden duck on king street across of Zippys. I like their food too!

Is there any delivery from this location?

Not that I have seen from them. Safeway now delivers- so if they can from a driver you know then maybe - otherwise no.

It's tucked into the corner of Market City Shopping Center next to Earl Sandwich Shop. The main parking lot gets busy, but there's parking in the back, too. The salted egg yolk fried chicken was juicy inside with a crispy coating. The green beans with minced meat had just a little kick without being too spicy. The beef fried rice was good, though I expected a bit more flavor. But the crab curry stole the show. The crab was cooked perfectly, and the curry was packed with wonderful spices and flavor. I'd buy a container of just that curry if I could! Definitely make a reservation if you can. Walk-ins are welcome, and there's a sign-in sheet, but you may have to wait. I arrived at noon and was very lucky to find a metered parking spot across from the restaurant on the very first try - As I entered I noticed that the room was very crowded and that here was only ONE open table so I sat down immediately and ordered the "Won Ton Mein" as the waitress approached me with a menu - I have to note that although this restaurant was located inside of a very old building the interior was a very sharp contrast - Everything appeared fresh and modern with very basic hand built picnic type bench seating and dining tables constructed of varnished raw wood (very spartan but practical and comfortable) - The bowl of soup was of average size and appeared very sparse with not much color - There was "NO" Pork Char Sui slices, only steaming hot clear chicken broth, a clump of thin Vermicelli white opaque noodles accompanied with a few small pieces of both chopped Mustard, Napa Cabbages and slivers of Green Onions - Extremely simple and basic. There were exactly "4" individual Won Ton that were filled with a tiny chunk of SHRIMP mixed into minced PORK HASH and regular spices (basic Soy sauce and Sesame Oil) - The "won ton PI" was very thin and light and the saimin noodles were made of the same Rice Flour mixture also - The broth was hot and savory but nothing special only because it was so "bland" to the taste. Although the restaurant was crowded to its Maximum Capacity within 15 minutes of my arrival it had practically "emptied itself out" with only myself a one other table of 6-dinners getting their food too. I will probably return to eat at this restaurant if and when I get another pressing urge to satisfy one of my insatiable cravings to drive all across Oahu from EWA Beach to Chinatown in the city of Honolulu . The "PLUS" about this visit is that it was clean and the service was average but not disappointingly "long" despite how busy and crowded the entire restaurant was when I first arrived

The restaurant is tucked inside the Chinatown Cultural Plaza…read moreand faces the waterway rather than the street, which gives it a somewhat different setting. Compared with the dim sum restaurants we're accustomed to in California, the selection here felt a little limited. We tried some of our usual favorites--Siu Mai, Har Gow, and custard buns--but unfortunately, they were just average in flavor and were served cold. The service was friendly, and they do offer dim sum from a few carts, which was nice to see. You can also ask the staff for specific dishes if you don't see what you're looking for. It also appeared that there was only one type of tea available. Nothing was particularly bad about the experience, but nothing really stood out either. Given the other dim sum options we're familiar with, this probably isn't a place we'd make a special trip to visit again.

I was recently invited to attend a dinner for my part time job where I wasn't really keen to…read morepartake but was heavily persuaded to join them at King Restaurant & Bar (KRB) where I gave in. What a blessing that was as I was impressed with the food quality and attention to detail. There were many star dishes that impressed me and luckily had the honor to pack up the leftovers which I ended up sharing with family. They raved over the food from KRB, so I suggested we come here for dinner. To play it safe I called ahead and made a reservation for a round table as I tend to order an array of different dishes. To our surprise, KRB wasn't busy that weekday evening with both private dining rooms occupied and only one other table of 4 during our arrival. I asked the family what they wanted to eat and because they are big eaters who also enjoy leftovers, our initial food order consisted of 9 different dishes that included doubling up both noodle orders. Overall, our meal was above average with family favorites of tofu casserole that was so delicious that I ended up getting another one. The seafood crispy noodles were also phenomenal as it was executed well with great texture contrast and finesse in flavors. Personally I enjoyed the free range chicken with ginger onion sauce and the sautéed lamb with leeks. We also appreciated the complimentary dessert of chilled coconut milk tapioca. Service was above average as the staff were attentive to our needs and exchanged plates halfway during our dinner. The only setback for me was the ambiance as it was semi dark and dingy. The interior could use an upgrade. Recent returned visits to KRB is truly deserving of 5-stars from me. The food exceeded my expectations where it was worthy to drag my family here and have concluded KRB is deserving to be included in our rotation of restaurants to patronize.

We had the Chinese chicken salad with jellyfish, Mix seafood cake noodles, beef broccoli, crispy chicken, mixed pork with green beans, steamed fish fillets and rice The Chinese chicken salad was different with the jellyfish. It was tasty and with the jellyfish it had a nice chewy crunch. That is a first normally it has crispy wonton strips. The mixed pork with green beans is always a hit, everyone love the flavor and tasty of this fish. The beef broccoli was good with tender beef slices and fresh broccoli. The mix seafood cake noodles was also good and everyone enjoyed the noodles. The steamed fish fillet was with a shoyu and ginger sauce which was very moist and delicious. The crispy chicken this time seems like they used a malnourished chicken it hardly had meat and was mostly bones.

Lunch in Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. I asked my sister what she wanted to eat for her birthday: Dimsum! I suggested that we go to this new location of Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant. She agreed! The covered parking lot is free! Just follow the signs and park in the designated numbered stalls. Inside, it was crowded and noisy! I wrote our name on the list and got called quickly! My sister wrote our order on the menu: shrimp dumplings, seaweed roll, deep fried taro puffs, shrimp and chive dumplings, mochi rice, pork-filled deep fried mochi, and custard tarts. Later, we added on an order of house noodles... they were thin, crisp, and tasty! Everything was delicious and beautifully presented! Service was efficient! There were different people delivering baskets and plates to our table. They just crossed off menu items on the printed list as they arrived. My sister and her husband were really happy with this meal! I was, too! Note: i even took home the leftover noodles! Yay!

We had been to Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant several times at its old location across from Ala Moana…read moreMall, and it used to be a five-star place for us. The new location is only about a block away, with a much nicer, newer interior. Unfortunately, the food seems to have changed much more than the address We ordered four dishes: mochi rice, pork buns, siu mai, and chicken feet. Almost everything arrived cooler than it should have. The chicken feet and siu mai were warm rather than hot, while the pork buns were closer to cold. More importantly, it wasn't just a temperature problem. The chicken feet in particular tasted noticeably worse than before, lacking the flavors and spices we remembered. The mochi rice was the most normal of the four, but even that felt fairly unremarkable There was a table next to us that came in excited to have dimsum. And watching their reaction, they came to the same conclusion as us -- food was cold, and flavors were off. We went on a weekday, so it's possible the kitchen was different that day, but the drop in quality was hard to ignore. The restaurant wasn't busy, service was good, and prices seemed unchanged from our previous visits. The new space is a clear improvement, but based on this meal, the food unfortunately went in the opposite direction. We likely won't be coming back
