Kings restaurant was recommended for a car club dinner. We normally check out the restaurants before we bring the club. This was definitely a must we've been told. No complaints here, good was so good we all Enjoyed it!! Ample parking and rooms To have groups and there's karaoke available too in each room. We also had a plain fried rice which was excellent and forgot to take a pictures.
This is one of the very few Chinese restaurants left in the city that is truly worth visiting. Most of their dishes are consistently delicious; however, their egg white and scallop fried rice can be a bit hit-or-miss. I recently had dinner there (07/21/26), and the entire restaurant was uncomfortably warm, making it difficult to fully enjoy the meal. I understand that their air conditioning was out of service, and the standing fans simply weren't enough, especially with the restaurant packed with diners. I hope they get the A/C repaired soon. Otherwise, even many of their loyal regulars may start dining elsewhere. Oh, they definitely need to do something about their main entrance. Those potholes will damage vehicles!!
If you're Chinese and you're visiting the island, this is the place to go if your Chinese and live here and only speak English bring a magnifying glass so you can see the English translation. The food was genuinely Chinese. The atmosphere was nice. Could've been a little bit more inviting, but it was OK and acceptable for what the restaurant had to offer. The people were exceptionally friendly, but when I asked for a beer, I couldn't get it because haven't been approved yet. Other than that, the food was absolutely delicious. Delicious service was absolutely awesome. The chef came out and answered every question and I recommend this who loves authentic Chinese food. This is not a chop Suey place. If you want chop Suey, go to the mall I love this place, but I don't eat Chinese.
The dim sum served during short hours is ok tho, with other restaurants in the close vicinity serving the same... I would go to the other places for dim sum. What I do LOVE about King is there main dishes. Have not been disappointed in any of their entrees. There are a few that really stand out. My favorite being the stir fried veges with Chinese yam, black fungus, and pumpkin. In fact, as I write this, am thinking I might have to get a few orders of this dish for family! Did I mention, in an area where parking can be challenging (other businesses sharing metered street parking)? King has their own and plentiful parking lot accessed on Makaloa Street! Looking forward to returning soon!
Went for lunch also tried a few of their dim sum... okay but I wouldn't "just" go for their dim sum, there are better ones elsewhere! Ordered some of our favs and it's consistent, enjoyed their food and relaxing atmosphere.
My friend ordered 1 Roast Duck today for Super Bowl party. He goes to pick it up and restaurant said you ordered 4! OMG! Are you serious? What is worse, is that they made him pay for all 4 ducks! Really? What a scam! You could easily accomodate his order of 1 duck! I know you could easily sold the other 3!! Not going there! Buyer Beware!
Attended a dinner with a group of six tables. Service was excellent, food was outstanding and everyone really enjoyed the food. We had an 8 course meal plus rice and tapioca taro dessert. We arrived early for our large group of six tables and the employees were kind to bring our table some potato chips and peanuts to snack on. Some of our favorites were the Kayuk w Taro, Lettuce wrap w Duck filling, Peking duck w bun. Ample parking, clean bathroom and great food. There may be a bit of a language barrier depending on who's working, one employee spoke all chinese to me (found out she was asking me if i wanted some iced water) of which i didn't understand but luckily I was with a large chinese speaking group. The workers do smoke outside as some reviews have mentioned but the food here is one of our favorites of our Chinese club that we love eating here. .
I'm Chinese and my family is from Hong Kong. We all agree that King Restaurant is great! Came here for lunch and the food and service were wonderful. Every dish was full of flavor and excellently prepared. They seem to put in a little something extra when other restaurants would be much simpler. For example, the vegetables we ordered were seasoned with flakes of dried fish, and the beef short rib had pumpkin underneath. Very nice touches. And anyone who knows Chinese food understands that wok-fried dishes like fried rice need that "wok hei," and this place definitely delivers it. The Yang Chow fried rice is some of the best I've had in Honolulu. The interior of the restaurant is very comfortable and classy, suitable for both casual lunches and classy dinners (there is a lot of wine on display). Finally, take note of the lunch specials to save some money. They offer a good discount. Will return. Thank you!
I enjoyed the clams most, and the rest of the foods were alright. I hope to come back and try the tofu casserole which I heard is good. Parking lot in the back, with many stalls. Service was very prompt. It seems that there are large tables for get together.
My good friends - Chi & Lin were home from Germany, so we decided to make a small get together with da intermediate skool/high skool/college gang, and "King Restaurant & Bar" was the place of choice for our little get together. I've seen quite a few of my Yelp buddies post wonderful reviews & pics of King Restaurant & Bar, but what really deterred me from coming here sooner was the nearby sketchy bums that mainly hang around the front area off of the Kapiolani Blvd. entrance area. Unfortunately for me, I didn't know there was a large parking lot & a back entrance of the restaurant. This parking lot & entrance faces the Keeaumoku Walmart & Sam's Club. Had I known about that, I would have come here sooner, as this restaurant serves up some pretty yummy Chinese grub! I originally thought we were gonna do the dim sum thing for lunch, buy my friend Matt K. went all out and ordered a menu more for like a Chinese dinner. We had ordered the following grub - Peking Duck Peking Duck Skin in Bun Steamed Fish Filet with Ginger & Onion Sauce Beef Chow Fun (dry style) Shrimp Look Fun Salted Fish & Chicken Fried Rice Honey Walnut Shrimp Dry Fried String Bean with Minced Pork What can I say about the grub? I must say the food was outstanding! It was really hard to pick which dish I liked better, as all of the items that we ordered was so tasty & flavorful! Service was wonderful, and the food came out quickly (probably due to my friend Matt pre-ordering the menu before we came here), and it was nice that we had a private dining room so we could take our time eating, & having long fun conversation. As good as the food was, I was even more happy to see all of my intermediate skool, high skool, & college friends, as we don't get to see each other all of the time.
"Icing on the top of the cake" King Restaurant & Bar is located in the older, nondescript bldg. just before the Runner's Route on Kapiolani Blvd. parking is to the rear of the restaurant Assuming more emphasis on "restaurant" during the day and "bar" at night. Had heard good things about their Chinese cuisine but never had a chance to try till recently. Was drawn to their recent announcement that they were now serving dim sum from 10am to 3pm. For the dim sum offerings, most items are $5.95 or $6.95 per plate. The service was great, although we did have to wait awhile as it was pretty packed with diners and take out orders within 10 minutes of our arrival. The tables and the concrete floor were clean and not cramped. The servers welcomed us with fresh hot tea and water upon request. As busy as the two servers were, they were attentive, pleasant and were observant of our needs. Never an empty pot of tea, they always checked. Because the floors are concrete, there really was really nothing to absorb the sound so it did get pretty noisy. Was the wait worth it? Absolutely! Seemingly, nothing really premade so the dishes came out hot and fresh and delicious. We had the usual pork hash, steamed shrimp/chive dumpling, bbq pork bun, shrimo dumpling and shrimp look funn. The shrimp look funn was amazingly thin with fat shrimp inside- really soft and delicious with just the right amount of sauce in the plate. Clean and spacious seating, delicious dim sum and to top it iff, great and pleasant service- the @icing on the top of the cake".
We came here for my grandma's birthday. We had the private room which was very spacious for about 20 of us. The room was pretty cool. It has a large dining table and a smaller table with couches around it. It also has a large screen for karaoke and a karaoke machine, obviously. While I waited for everyone else to arrive, they brought us some snacks like peanuts and chips. They would not, however, bring us more snacks until we ordered food. this was a problem because I was hungry and my mom could not figure out what to order. This was soon rectified, however, and I got more snacks! Service was prompt. We even got instructions on how to use the karaoke machine after wefinished dinner. It was a surprise because I didn't even know we could use it without paying extra, but it was free. The food was pretty good. I enjoyed the honey walnut shrimp, the noodles, the fried rice, the clay pots, and everything else! We ordered quite a variety of food and everything was yummy and perfectly seasoned. For dessert we had a cake we brought in and they were so nice to give us plates and utensils. They had even offered to refrigerate the cake before the meal. I came here a second time for takeout and it was very easy to call my order in and pick it up. No issues and the food was again really good. There are some dedicated parking stalls in the back of the restaurant. There aren't many though so get here early! I think there is a number of street parking stalls available in the evening anyway.
Food was so good! The staff were so kind! Overall we enjoyed it! We ate a lot! My Ohana and I will be back for sure!
I was recently invited to attend a dinner for my part time job where I wasn't really keen to partake but was heavily persuaded to join them at King Restaurant & Bar (KRB) where I gave in. What a blessing that was as I was impressed with the food quality and attention to detail. There were many star dishes that impressed me and luckily had the honor to pack up the leftovers which I ended up sharing with family. They raved over the food from KRB, so I suggested we come here for dinner. To play it safe I called ahead and made a reservation for a round table as I tend to order an array of different dishes. To our surprise, KRB wasn't busy that weekday evening with both private dining rooms occupied and only one other table of 4 during our arrival. I asked the family what they wanted to eat and because they are big eaters who also enjoy leftovers, our initial food order consisted of 9 different dishes that included doubling up both noodle orders. Overall, our meal was above average with family favorites of tofu casserole that was so delicious that I ended up getting another one. The seafood crispy noodles were also phenomenal as it was executed well with great texture contrast and finesse in flavors. Personally I enjoyed the free range chicken with ginger onion sauce and the sautéed lamb with leeks. We also appreciated the complimentary dessert of chilled coconut milk tapioca. Service was above average as the staff were attentive to our needs and exchanged plates halfway during our dinner. The only setback for me was the ambiance as it was semi dark and dingy. The interior could use an upgrade. Recent returned visits to KRB is truly deserving of 5-stars from me. The food exceeded my expectations where it was worthy to drag my family here and have concluded KRB is deserving to be included in our rotation of restaurants to patronize. read more
We had our group luncheon there in a private room and the service is always great! Sorry no pictures I cannot add anymore pictures to this page. We had the Chinese chicken salad with jellyfish, Mix seafood cake noodles, beef broccoli, crispy chicken, mixed pork with green beans, steamed fish fillets and rice The Chinese chicken salad was different with the jellyfish. It was tasty and with the jellyfish it had a nice chewy crunch. That is a first normally it has crispy wonton strips. The mixed pork with green beans is always a hit, everyone love the flavor and tasty of this fish. The beef broccoli was good with tender beef slices and fresh broccoli. The mix seafood cake noodles was also good and everyone enjoyed the noodles. The steamed fish fillet was with a shoyu and ginger sauce which was very moist and delicious. The crispy chicken this time seems like they used a malnourished chicken it hardly had meat and was mostly bones. read more
Went here for my friend's graduation party, it was great but some dishes are way better than others for sure. The fowl was amazing my gosh, but the crab was also awesome. Personally the oysters were quite soft and not what I expected. It was a bit disorienting to bite into it. Place is relatively big and is chinese style with the spinning table. read more

King Restaurant has been here for 8 years, but we only now got around to trying their dim sum. The dim sum menu starts at 10am and the rest of the menu is available at 11am. The dim sum menu is limited, but everything was pretty tasty. My favorites were the siu mai and beef short rib (mostly because it's an unusual dim sum selection). The gin dui (fried sesame mochi balls with red bean paste) were small, bite-sized and hot. We liked that. The service is friendly and the restaurant is very nice. There's free parking in the back. Overall, it was a good experience. I had to knock off one star because there were a few menu items that weren't available and the restrooms weren't working. We may try again another day... read more
First time trying their dim sum. It was delicious. Har gau is always good theirs had large shrimp inside no fillers. The black bean spare ribs were large full of meat not all fat. They lay on a bed of taro which was delicious too. Then we had the shrimp look fun which came with choy sum. Usually doesn't come with veggies but theirs did which is unique but I liked it! We also ordered the black pepper short ribs which was very flavorful! Full menu is available at 11am. We were able to order spicy salt and pepper shrimp. It wasn't spicy but it was delicious! The shrimp wasn't overcooked at all. We really enjoyed the food. Next time we need to come with several people to order other dishes. They have three private rooms two of which can hold 12-15 and one for 8-10 people. The two larger rooms are partitioned can be removed and used as one big room. For 24- 30 people. Audio visual is available which provides ability for presentations. What it's used for is karaoke! So you can have a private party and sing! $400 and $300 minimum spend for private too. during the week and $450 and $350 minimum over the weekend. read more
Celebrating my birthday milestone on my actual birthdate at King Restaurant this year took on additional family memories since I was able to celebrate as a family group of eight. My husband and I arranged a fairly lavish 9-course Chinese dinner since family from far and near were coming to celebrate our August birth month. We tried to coordinate the banquet menu according to Chinese food symbolism traditions to represent happiness, longevity, prosperity, abundance, harmony and family unity. The chef/owner was very accomodating as he offered his expertise in our menu planning, portion sizes and a private room for our family. Also, we took into consideration our guests' Westernized Chinese palates and possible food allergies. FOOD: -Shrimp Balls & Salt and Pepper Deep-fried Squid -Crab and Fish Maw Soup -Chinese-style Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Cabbage -Steamed Sea Bass -Chicken & Abalone Casserole -Pumpkin, Chinese Yam and Wood Ear Mushroom (fungus) -Beef Tenderloin in Black Pepper Sauce -Pan-fried Noodles with Shredded Pork -Dried Scallop & Egg White Fried Rice -Sweet Red Bean (adzuki) Soup We requested to have each dish "staged" rather than brought in all at once, but we understood that the food would come out according to the preparation time and kitchen workflow. The service was friendly. They did their best to keep our group hydrated with chilled water, hot tea, and the wines and soft drinks we brought along. King Restaurant & Bar is one of our favorite Chinese restaurants to eat at on a weekly basis or to entertain at. read more
My go to Chinese family style restaurant. They have the usual staple that you would find in an authentic Chinese place. Their service is fast, although not the super nicest, but it's an authentic Chinese place, what do you expect? Haha it's a lot of aunties and uncles yelling and talking loudly. But the crowd doesn't mind because they know that to expect when you come to a restaurant like that. They have seating available for small - big parties. With a private event room if needed. Most of the time I come here for family events so we always sit at the 10+ tables. Food comes out quick. But once it comes, it all comes at once. Their Peking duck baos, lobster noodles, and crab noodles are a must have. They have different seasonings to choose from (salt and pepper, or slated egg yolk). I choose the latter. If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, I would go here. If you have a big party, call ahead for a reservation. It's a smaller restaurant than most Chinese places. So you gotta get ahead of the crowd! They're very accommodating. read more

I have been here twice and have enjoyed King's Restaurant both times! My favorite dishes to order are the: -Garlic seafood fried rice -Black bean clams -Deep fried chicken -Ong Choy -Salt and pepper shrimp You cannot compare King's Restaurant to other Chinese food restaurants. The menu has some similarities but it's not like Fook Yuen, Legend's or Jade Dynasty. I don't know how to describe it. But it's not your typical Cantonese/ Hong Kong style Chinese restaurant (in my opinion). The service is quick for dinner and you're basically in and out. The parking situation can be tricky as the lot is small and sometimes you have to find street parking. The reason why this restaurant doesn't receive a full 5 stars from me is because of the smoking situation. The restaurant smells like smoke and there's nothing you can do to stop it. I don't know if the karaoke rooms are smoking allowed, but the cooks smoke in the doorway leading into the restaurant and they won't stop. I'll admit the smoke is a huge turn off, but I think this restaurant has the best black bean clams and I'll just deal with it. They also have a very distracting electric blue light for bugs that makes a loud startling zap every time a bug is buzzed! read more

We were three people and went to King's restaurant for lunch yesterday. We ordered three orders, the black pepper beef spaghetti , the curry chicken wings with rice, and the ong Choi. The black pepper beef spaghetti a little salty, and other two dishes were fine, especially the curry chicken wings with rice, it was so big amount of rice and six pieces of chicken wings, we loved it. The waitress was so nice and had a good smile, and she asked our opinion of the food , and She refilled a few time of hot tea for us. Overall, that was not bad experience, we will be back soon read more
We came here for Dim Sum on a friend's recommendation. When I look this place up on Yelp, I couldn't find any Dim Sum photos and I thought it was odd. And I like to believe that maybe dinner might have been a better choice. Their dinner photos looked more appealing with lots of seafood dishes. Their business hours are from 10am and we got there roughly about 10:30am. It seemed like the staff were busy doing other stuff other than servicing customers. We ordered several of Dim Sum dishes and they were okay. It was a rough morning for Shu Mai dumplings. They were all in one the corner of the basket like they were on time out. My family enjoys rice porridge and I couldn't believe how clumpy it was. Again, I would like to believe that this restaurant serves better dinner dishes than Dim Sum. BEEN THERE! DONE THAT! And now that I've dined here more than a few times, I can write a review without saying "too new... iron out bugs..." There is no carpet on the floor and maybe, this is a good thing from the standpoint of housekeeping and daily sanitation. The restrooms are clean. There are 2 private dining areas and can expand to 1 large private dining area There are ample parking stalls in the rear of the building (Enter from Sheridan) There is a full bar (and quite the wine selection) I don't know if there is a wine list of what they offer but just by looking, I can tell you it's pretty impressive (scratching my head and wondering... is it for customers or is a private cellar type thing?) They have a nice menu and a great serving and kitchen crew. We had - steamed fish with ginger and scallion topping, vegetable dish (and I don't know what its called as my dining buddy ordered it); whatever it was, it was good. house special friend rice roast pork cheeks.... The food was amazing. My favorite was the eggplant and fried rice . I didn't care for the wings too much because it was fatty. The service is great. They kept the food coming one by one until the entire lazy Susan was full. They have complimentary hot tea and its also a BYOB. The interior is nice and there are a couple private rooms for karaoke and/or meetings. Ample parking in the rear fronting Makaloa St (across ramp entrance to Sam's Club). Drove by at 8pm while the entire city is closed due to a potential tsunami. Lo and behold the Chinese restaurant is open! There's free parking behind this restaurant. Ambiance was good for families and friends, servers were respectful and allowed us to add food to our order, got us rice and water when asked (green tea is complimentary), and boxed up our food when done. We got the seafood tofu soup, black pepper beef, green beans, sweet n sour pork, and walnut shrimp. I'll just say that all the dishes were perfectly what you want from Chinese food. As a Chinese person, these standard dishes were exactly what I have eaten in China and Bay Area restaurants - oily, starchy, flavorful, crisp in all the right places. The beef was nice and tender if that's a concern. The portions were a bit suspicious, however, for example the soup serving we were given was barely enough for 4 bowls. We suspect that if your party is bigger they give you much more. The prices were a little high for the portion compared to the Bay but completely understandable and common here in Waikiki. We were served complimentary coconut taro sago soup after we were finished, and it was SO GOOD. I'm a sucker for taro sago soup. It was basically a sweet, thin coconut milk with ~4 tiny taro cubes and sago pearls. Some of the sago was a little clumpy and mushy but that's completely fine with me. King restaurant has decent Chinese food. They are pretty busy and sometimes packed especially on weekends. Good variety of dishes. The dishes are pretty good. They are tasty and well seasoned. They are also pretty pricey though and the portion seems to be less and less over time. The kitchen entrance in the back sometimes keeps on leaking with a puddle of water. read more

I preordered the two signature dishes: Hakka story fry and hundred flower chicken. To pair with my Canadian whisky, I ordered steam oysters as well. They all turned out delicious. The service was outstanding too. read more

Well thanks to Peter Y. and Paul C. Fellow Yelpers both post about this restaurant. You can enter from Kapiolani Blvd side or Makaloa side which there's the parking lot We wanted to order half order of Peking duck but our waitress said that the cooks didn't cook any yet The service was pretty fast once you order they kept coming around to re-fill your water and tea. Inside the restaurant is clean and in the the back there's restrooms. Looks like in the evening time it becomes a karaoke bar , The food taste ok and their prices are little on the higher side . My wife had read some good reviews from Paul C and Nadine C. So we had lunch there with her brother. The ambiance is bar like and dimly lit, yet bright enough to see your food. My wife wanted Bejing (Peking) duck. We were told it was too early to order it. She decided on cold ginger chicken. When the dish came out, the three of us committed the chicken was dark yellow and not the white are accustomed to. An ample portion of ginger sauce was served on the side. I wanted to try the stir-fried Pumkin, Chinese yam, and fungus. It was a good vegetarian dish. Another dish of note was the green beans with minced pork. This was my favorite dish. Enjoy read more
