Update For dinner tonight decided to order take out from Mandarin Kitchen. I ordered their Mapo Tofu it was really good a little kick to it but nothing I cannot handle. It was made with Minced pork and tofu over white rice . They also have a weekly special good reasonable price Cold ginger chicken. Support local

This is my second bad review. I don't see any pride being taken in serving good quality food here. The hot bar items MUST go before they make a new batch to put out. If you want fresh, you must order Ala Carte. I Decided to order FRESH ala carte item because the one on the hot bar looked stale and dry. It took me less than 8 minutes to reach my destination. When I served out a portion, of the food, the pieces were mushy all the way through. This was NOT fresh, not was it pork. I will not entertain the idea of how it could have happened. All I want to say is I am done patronizing this business. I was consistently buying takeout every week, for my mom, but when I try to order food for myself, it has never been right. They have opened up tables and counters for dining in.

Super pricey roast pork (1 lb fit in the tiny take out container)

When they first opened years ago, we tried a couple times. Boy, they were not good. But recently, we decided to give them a try again since they opened later than the other places. Pleasantly surprised! Went back again to see if they remained better or if last time was just a fluke. Thankfully, today was not too shabby. Food had good flavor and not salty. However, portion is rather small. I understand that for $14 (extra cost for fish), it's a good deal nowadays, but still, if you use a big plate, one scoop of food makes portion look even smaller. And I guess one scoop of each entree is good enough for lunch. Don't want kanak attack at work. What was upsetting was the $30/lb for roast pork. Omg that's so expensive! I tried to find it on the menu, but couldn't read the menu fast enough. Honestly didn't think it could be that out of range from other places like Asian Mix, where we frequent a lot, where price for roast pork is under $20/lb. That's a huge difference. Looks like Mandarin Kitchen just increased their prices, but wow.

One of the best Chinese restaurant I have been to. Quick take out lunch , food is very clean and good here. They also have party trays, which I order time to time when we have get together

$6.50 for 4 gaugee or 4 crispy spring rolls (Nov 2022)
    Chas S.

Even at $6.50 for a side of 4 spring rolls or 4 gaugee, this is still the cheapest around. Parking is always busy but turns over quickly. Prompt service by phone means brisk business and ensures that your food will be ready in a flash. Takeout only and still no table seating keeps these folks focused on speed and volume.

Orange chicken . Used to be more yellow and a lot better flavor. This looks like something from Costco in their frozen food section.

I have visited there several times before ordering their orange chicken. We loved it but it was a bit small of a portion. Today I went back for their orange chicken ordering 2 orders because portions are small. To my surprise the portions were huge but the chicken changed. The pieces were 80 percent batter kinda like some kind of frozen pre made thing and the sauce was different. Sorry but very dissatisfied with our food

Spring rolls. 4 per order. Includes sweet sour sauce.

First time trying. Take out lunch on a Sunday. Called in order 15 minutes ahead. Food ready when we got there. Located next to kahala McDonald's. Same parking lot where brugs bakery, kozo sushi, L&L, Jersey Mikes. Sometimes parking can be tight, small stalls. Better park on kahala mall side, near CVS Ordered: House pan fried noodles, asked for gravy on side. Black bean beef chow fun. Spring rolls, side order, 4 pieces per order. Includes sweet sour sauce. Taste was good Everything was good. Prices are on the higher side. Portions were good Highly recommend. Note: restrooms located outside. Can ask for code, very clean.

The prices seem steep for mediocre menu items and taste. Based on what my son experienced here.

Chow fun noodles and Orange Chicken.

Ask the Community - Mandarin Kitchen

Can you get a mixed plate for dinner? A few years ago it was only for lunch. Didn't make sense.?

I coulda swore I ordered beef w black bean by itself? Do you still make that or only w chow fun?

    Do they use MSG?

Honestly, not a lot if at all. Thinking you mean extra msg since most soy sauce/shoyu has msg. If it was a lot i would have had a reaction from my experience. I sleep fine after eating there, which is my test for msg....

We had to order one of their sig crab dishes, and we rounded out the meal w/ beef and long beans, sweet & sour pork belly, eggplant and fried rice. The crab was amazing! I added rice to the head (in Ilocano this is called "labay", adding rice to soup or broth to extend the meal). I was in heaven. The other dishes were all big portions and very good. The meat was tender, and the veggies were fresh and crunchy. I believe all the other dishes were ~ $20/each. The staff was super nice. We didn't have a res, but luckily we were seated in 20 min on a busy Sun night. Regarding the dining area, its tight but comfy. You have to wash your hands after, and the bathrooms are clean. I will def return the next time I come home. I want to try another crab dish (about 8 versions), and build a meal around the crab.

"Cake" refers…read moreto the noodle being pressed into a round, compact disk before it's pan-fried, which is exactly how you get that crispy-meets-soft texture moment. And yes, now I will absolutely be thinking about them often. If you think you know cake noodles because you've had Cantonese noodles before, Lee Ho Fook in Honolulu's Chinatown is here to humble you. I was definitely humbled. Tucked along the canal in Chinatown, Lee Ho Fook Restaurant is one of those cozy little neighborhood spots where the tables are close, the room is snug, and the noodles do all the talking. My Honolulu homies, twinsie "Auntie" Nadine C. and Cycle Buddy Randy S., brought me here for noodles and I'm eternally grateful they did. We ordered the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles, tossed noodles with choi sum and won ton, plus a side of ong choy. Every plate understood the assignment. As an Arizona girl, I had never had minute chicken or cake noodles before and fully assumed they'd be in the same lane as Cantonese noodles. Yelpers, I was wrong. Delightfully wrong. Cake noodles are a Cantonese classic but the magic is all in the texture: pan-fried until golden and crisp on the outside, while the center stays soft enough to soak up all that glossy savory sauce. It's the best of both noodle worlds - crispy and chewy. A true textural delight. The Minute Chicken Cake Noodles were the star for me. That contrast between the crispy edges and soft middle was wildly satisfying, and the chicken was silky, savory, and exactly the kind of comfort food that makes you stop mid-bite just to appreciate what's happening. The tossed noodles with choi sum and won ton were equally comforting in a more classic, no-fuss way, and the ong choy was the perfect green side dish that was garlicky, fresh, and necessary. Lee Ho Fook is small, comforting, and exactly the kind of place you want when what you really need is a bowl of something delicious and humble. Come hungry, bring a few friends, and order the cake noodles.

My buddy really likes siao mai, and he said KSR has the best ones out of the places I have brought him to in HNL. On the other hand, the manapua was just okay: The ratio of meat to bao was low. I took char siu fr the platter and added it to the bao. We might have been better off skipping the baos and ordering a rice or noodle plate. The har gow and spring rolls were pretty good. The rolls arrived piping hot, and the har gow had a nice texture in the wrapper. Fourthly, the cucumber was fresh & crunchy, and had lots of garlic. I ate some with the char siu to cut thru the fat. Lastly, the char siu & duck platter was very good. They do a good job of putting some char on the bbq pork. The duck was tasty, but there were a couple of bony pieces.
