Specials were offered on Uber Eats... Chow Fun was standard fare along with string beans BUT the chicken chow mein was horrible - idk what kine noodles they used but they were bland and smushy - toppings also lacked any "heat" or flavor -

Duk Kee is a convenient local Chinese restaurant that's not good but not bad. After ownership changed a little bit ago, the taste of the food and price did change too unfortunately. However, they are still convenient and fairly fast (previously was 10 minutes but now food takes 20 minutes). The "new" (versus previous ownership) workers still dont smile, which i find odd since they are younger, but at least they dont talk stink about customers and are very hard workers! The best value is their monthly set menu deal. We just tried their January 2026 deal. Great menu for $108 (i think monthly menu was $88 and $98 just last year). We also added a sweet sour fish $18.95. We also tried their Sunday lunch specials: chinese chicken salad $12.50 and sam see mein $14.50 (was $13.50 exactly 1 year ago). Unfortunately the sam see mein only had about half the quantity of toppings that other places give. I paid $1 more to change the noodles to the rice noodles that other places normally also make it with. But this one was long, thick, and chewy. It just wasnt good. On the other hand, the $108 set monthly menu included: rice, scallop soup (very salty), honey walnut shrimp (really big shrimp), lotus root with black fungus veges (no taste but I love these veges so I just added chili sauce), salt and pepper pork chop (tasty and good size pieces), cold ginger chicken (not sure why, but had lots of tiny pieces of bone shards), beef broccoli cake noodles (very small portion of cake noodles--supposedly feeds 5, but that means each person gets like 2 cake noods), and jin dui (yummy). Also added sweet and sour fish -- i always order this. Yummy. I think just got to stick with the stuff you know is good. Don't deviate.

Sorry, we were so excited to dig in that I forgot the photo until later.

Very solid American/chop suey style Chinese food that I think is way better than the average reviews imply. The value is excellent and you can get a variety of dishes that all have distinct flavors. Also, it's a great place to go if you don't want to wait a long time between ordering and getting served. The service is incredibly fast. Not as salty as some other Chinese restaurants - which is a good thing. It's a little cold in the restaurant so bring a jacket if you tend to be cold. Or just order some hot food. We enjoyed everything we ordered: * pork with sweet and sour cabbage * tofu with mixed vegetables * green beans with minced pork * steamed fish fillets with ginger and scallions * beef with pepper

I went in here by accident...as another eatery was not offering takeout. A longtime establishment in Kaimuki...I can only recall eating from ( iInhad takeout ) here on one other occasion. Duk Kee is the name so I requested the stuffed duk...jk...duck. It was a bowl of roast duck...stew. It was damn fine and reminded me of the old McCully Chop Suey House on the corner of South King and McCully streets. My parents - Japanese - would often order that old restaurants stuffed duck on special occasions ; and the taste was very similar. I always thought it was Hong Kong style cuisine which is similar to Cantonese which Duk Lee is, so there ya go. Appearance wasn't the best but at $18...can't go wrong. Parking: metered stalls in front on 12th Ave. There is also thr municipal lot.

$14+ plate lunch.

This is my 2nd trip to Kaimuki with a friend, so surely I didn't know what to expect when going to a place over there. I remembered seeing Duk Kee the last time I visited Kaimuki, but didn't consider eating there at the time. That time, I considered it. Coming into this, I didn't know what to expect, all things considered. However, after today, maybe it isn't so bad. The plate lunch special that I ordered...definitely a lot of food for what you get in terms of the price. I liked what I mostly ate, but the spareribs, not so much. I don't know why, but for some reason, it wasn't that good. The pot roast pork and beef broccoli noodles were actually my favorite thing about that lunch plate. Gau Gee...not bad. All-in-all, it was okay for a first-time visit. Overall, this gets a 8.5 out of 10 from me. Maybe next time I'll try something different there...like the cold ginger chicken or maybe the salt and pepper pork chop.

Been looking for a good Chinese food since moving to Hawaii and I think I found one I like. Grew up in NJ/NY area so I've had some good Chinese food. Miss those late nights (or early morning) escapades at China Town in NYC for some good grubs! Anyways, I'm more into American Chinese aka Orange/Lemon chicken, Honey Walnut Shrimp, veggie/chicken/shrimp lo mein, etc. Tried both (though not pictured) as well as their house noodles with chicken and veggies. We got the orders for pick up on a Saturday night. Damn they are busy. Highly recommend calling your orders in or take out. The chicken was crispy, good amount of meat and flavorful. Same with the shrimp and the walnuts had the right amount of sweetness. I like how their aired out the dishes and punctured holes to prevent it from getting soggy. Service was ok. Very busy here in a Friday night. So call ahead.

Three and a half stars. Heard ownership changed. New owners seem young and new chef. The menu is probably about the same with a few changes but you'll get your go to Chinese take out for the weeknight you don't feel like cooking. I'm sure if I are there it would have been better (always)! The food was very decent and the owner was friendly. It's a legendary "old timer" restaurant in Kaimuki and I'm glad it has not gone down to pieces like it was during covid. New owners, better deals, I will go next time inside to eat!! Happy they're still in business Apologies for no food pics but they got moved around in the car and didn't look so presentable.

The "common" Cantonese dishes are mostly done well. One of the best things is the jai at the beginning of every month -- 5 stars. Some cons are -- stingy fillings and size of their gau chee, bland pork hash, really sub par stuffed duck. Popular dishes like beef broccoli and sweet & sour pork are ono. Just depends on what you order....

Food is decent priced. Presentation is good. Amount is great. Taste is good. This place is available on uber eats.

We had a family dinner last night at Duk Kee. My cousin ordered 9 dishes for just 8 of us. The food was so delicious, we hardly had any leftovers. Service was excellent, they changed plates and kept water and tea filled. We preordered the dishes and reserved a table. The restaurant was very busy on a Sunday evening. Duk Kee is excellent and I highly recommend dining here. I took photos of some of our dishes. Not shown, was the Char Siu Ribs that had to be ordered 24 hour in advance, Sautéed Clams and Chinese Chicken Salad! I was too busy eating!

I walked in and ordered. It was not crowded. They made me wait 20 minute for the special of the day. Roast chicken on noodle no msg. My friend on the only table with people eating said - what a long wait. Yep 20 min. Two other people with one item each picked up their order while I was waiting. Another order with around 5 won ton mien and 3 or 4 other dishes was being made while I waited. When I asked about my border they looked surprised. I even paid cash to avoid the 3% credit card charge. So I am not impressed with the newer owners. I was not treated as poorly with the old owners and the food was salty and the noodles so soggy with gravy spilling out of the container. Other people like this restaurant but for me I am not impresssd.

My experience with take-out was good. They were friendly and on time. The restaurant looked clean. However, the food didn't taste as good as I expected. I ordered a pork chop with pepper salt, beef chow fun, and shrimp wonton. The portion was appropriate, but they all tasted very bland.

2024 update Duk Kee came under new ownership during the first quarter of 2024. With new ownership came new cooks and the way dishes were prepared. Our initial purchases were disappointing, flavoring or lack thereof was a shock. We decided to wait and give them a chance to work it out. Many times because new cooks will approach things differently, old time customers from the previous regime expect the taste to be the same,, sometimes this is not the case. Does it mean it's bad? Not necessarily, it depends. Recently we had a chance to try their crispy gau gee with ss sauce on the side. This appetizer was prepared nicely and we enjoyed it. We will probably slowly poke around and try other dishes to see if our initial experiences have changed or probe to find dishes better suited for us. I will say they seem to still be doing a brisk business so their customers, and many must be regulars, must be enjoying the food. New customers? Longtime patrons? It depends...

Duk Kee Chinese Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Duk Kee Chinese Restaurant

What is the health score? red? green? yellow? i dont see it on the page?

Varies by inspection

Do they use MSG in their food?

They may use a little in some menu items, but the restaurant is very accommodating with requests for anything & everything to be cooked without MSG or any allergens.

What's in the stuff eggplant?

Marinated pork hash & sautéed in a wok & then covered by a ono black bean sauce. One of my fav to eat over rice😋

How many people will one order feed?

It all depends. Depends on each person's appetite. One rule when ordering at a Chinese restaurant, 1 dish per person. So if there are 4 people, 4 dishes. Hope that helps.

We had to order one of their sig crab dishes, and we rounded out the meal w/ beef and long beans, sweet & sour pork belly, eggplant and fried rice. The crab was amazing! The curry sauce was so deep & complex. In addition, the crab was fresh bc they have tanks in the restaurant. Of course I called dibs on the head, and it was packed with goodies. I added rice to the head (in Ilocano this is called "labay", adding rice to soup or broth to extend the meal). I was in heaven. The other dishes were all big portions and very good. The meat was tender, and the veggies were fresh and crunchy. I believe all the other dishes were ~ $20/each. The staff was super nice. We didn't have a res, but luckily we were seated in 20 min on a busy Sun night. Regarding the dining area, its tight but comfy. You have to wash your hands after, and the bathrooms are clean. I will def return the next time I come home. I want to try another crab dish (about 8 versions), and build a meal around the crab.

The tables and benches are very basic and not cushioned, which makes for quick customer turnover. We hardly waited 2 minutes before they called us; even though there was a queue the entire time we were there it seems they go really quickly. Focus is on noodles (recommended) or rice dishes. We had beef chow fun (thick noodles) and a rice-noodle soup with pork and picked cabbage. Both dishes were very good. The chow fun was smoky, as if cooked on high heat, and the rice noodles were nicely spiced. The rice noodles came in a delicious broth. We ordered pork hash, manapua, har gow, spring rolls, pickled cucumbers ($12.95) and a platter of char siu & duck. The dim sum was about $8/each, which I thought was very reasonable. My buddy really likes siao mai, and he said KSR has the best ones out of the places I have brought him to in HNL. On the other hand, the manapua was just okay: The ratio of meat to bao was low. I took char siu fr the platter and added it to the bao. We might have been better off skipping the baos and ordering a rice or noodle plate. The har gow and spring rolls were pretty good. The rolls arrived piping hot, and the har gow had a nice texture in the wrapper. Fourthly, the cucumber was fresh & crunchy, and had lots of garlic. I ate some with the char siu to cut thru the fat. Lastly, the char siu & duck platter was very good. They do a good job of putting some char on the bbq pork. The duck was tasty, but there were a couple of bony pieces. Regarding the ambiance, its big in here. Although they don't use carts, the aisles are wide. The servers were friendly & warm. I would def return for dim sum, but I also want to come for dinner. The food is very good, and the prices are reasonable.
