Tried Vons Chicken for the first time and was seriously impressed. I ordered the half and half chicken with their secret sauce, and it might just be some of the best Korean fried chicken I've ever had. The skin was perfectly crispy without being too greasy, and the chicken itself was juicy and packed with flavor. The secret sauce added just the right balance of sweetness and spice, making every bite addicting. The portion was generous and perfect for sharing, though I easily could have finished it all myself. Parking could be a challenge if the front parking lot is full. Since it is take out only, we usually jump in and just pay and pick up. This Von's location is right down the road from where I live in Kaimuki. I've ordered here a total of 3 times and each time food is made to order, doesn't disappoint. I was super excited to see that they opened up in Hawaii Kai! They're in the same shopping plaza as Safeway, right next to Liko's. I had read that they make each order fresh and that it typically takes 20 minutes, so I called my order in. The person who took my order said it'd be 10-15 min, but it was definitely 20+ min. It's a small place with 4-5 tables inside. It seemed that all of the customers who came in were getting their orders to go. They had K-Pop playing on the TV screen while you wait! This was my first time at a Von's chicken, although I love Korean chicken! I went with the chicken plate for $11.99, which comes with 4 bone-in chicken wings (I chose the shoyu flavor based on the reviews), rice, corn, 2 pieces of mandoo and kimchi. The chicken was crunchy and flavorful. It was also very juicy! It had a nice sweetness to it. I'd definitely return to try some of their other flavors! The corn tasted like it came out of a can, but the mandoo was crunchy and the kimchi was amazing! Right now they're offering free fries if you check in on Yelp. I've been seeing Vons pop up on my Yelp for a while. On a very hungry day off, as I was passing through Kaimuki, I just had to try it. To tell the truth, the parking here is quite terrible. I was lucky to come on a weekday and during lunch. You have to pull into the driveway from the street that goes up toward St Louis heights. I can easily see someone getting blocked in or having a hard time getting out. I had a hard time getting out of the parking and back onto Waialae since it's such a busy street. Anyway, besides the parking, the chicken here is amazing. It's that Korean fried chicken kind of restaurant. Kind of similar to the restaurant bbq chicken in Kahala. I got the original and it was great. Nice and crispy and not spicy at all. My husband got the spicy wings and he loved it. The ride home with the chicken in my passenger seat was torture. The smells of the delicious chicken driving from Kaimuki to Hawaii Kai made my stomach rumble even more. We will definitely go back again. Can't wait to try other things. read more

First time here and it was good. Food was made fresh (chicken was so hot it melted the stytofoam!) Mandoo seem frozen but still tasted good. Got a plate which has a good amount of chicken (I don't like bones so I got boneless). Plate comes with a large portion of rice, some corn (canned but decent), and 2 mandoo. I tried the "snow" flavor which it says is onion/cheese. It was good, slightly sweet, but I wanted more flavor. The chicken was cooked well though with lots of meat and not too much fat. The picture of the plate has mac salad but when I asked he said the only have corn now. It was fast, hot, and tasty so all around a good experience. We got half orders (10 wings) of the crispy seasoned (spicy) and the crispy shoyu ($14.99). The crispy shoyu was my favorite. This one is fried but tossed with that shoyu sauce. Mmm, umami! But it's not wet or gooey. The crispy seasoned was too hot for me! But I would try the mild version because the flavors were nice. It's fried and coated with a gooey sauce that is slightly sweet. The deal of the day is the corn on the cob! $1.99 with purchase! The regular price is $4.45! What?! You have a choice of Baja BBQ or butter mayo (I think she said there's parmesan cheese on it). Get it! The corn is fresh island corn. It's perfectly cooked, crispy and sweet. The Baja BBQ is slightly spicy. I need to try the butter mayo next. Parking is tricky. I have been boycotting the Vons chicken on Pensacola, so I was very excited about this location opening up in kaimuki. Kaimuki is awesome already, so why not add a cons chicken to the number of reasons why I love kaimuki. I do not love the parking lot I have to use when I go here though. It gives me anxiety to have to park in this lot. So I have been waiting for a non busy time to try out this Vons. I got the shoyu wings. They were excellent. I got the snow fries which were ok, but I could pass on these next time. I though a full size would feed 4 people, but I had some extras for lunch the next day and they were still good warmed up. I think next time I will get the half size. It takes a little while for them to make the chicken. I would definitely suggest calling in your order ahead of time. The girl answering the phone I think was chinese, she understood and correctly repeated back to me what I wanted, but I was nervous my order wouldn't be right for some reason. I shouldn't have worried, everything turned out perfectly. They have a few tables inside, but I think most people get their chicken to go. I'll definitely be back. We needed a quick bite to eat after my cousin's volleyball game ended a little late. We ended up ordering take out, which was such a breeze! This was done through their online website, which made it very convenient. This Vons Chicken is located on a very busy street. The entrance to the parking lot is also small, so once you miss it... you have to go all the way around. Pick up was easy where I just had to say my name. The cashier was very nice and made sure I had all of my items that I ordered in the bag. When we got home, the chicken we ordered was still very crispy, which is what I was hopeful for as our drive home took about 20 min. The chicken was also very flavorful and paired well with the honey garlic French fries. The fries were a good balance of sweet, salty, and crispy. We also ordered the Tteokbokki, which is very SPICY. Please be mindful of the spice on this. I consider myself to have a pretty good spice tolerance, and although this was very tasty... it does provide some heat. The rice cakes were also very chewy (perfect texture). Overall, a good place to grab something to go! Especially because they offer online ordering. I heard owner is changed a week ago and the food quality and service is even better than before. My mom is so picky about outside food but she loved it. Vons Kaimuki is finally open!! I was so excited to learn that my favorite Korean fried chicken restaurant is opening in the neighborhood. It's located in the same block as Ripple of Smiles, across from City Mill. Parking lot is a little weird and it's easier to enter from the St Louis drive side. It can also get busy at times. Ordering is really easy with the option to order online through the website, or by phone. I recommend ordering ahead since it takes about 20 mins. Here's what I got (half orders 10pc each): -Snow wings: They dust a cheese and onion powder on the crispy fried wings. It tastes like a slightly sweet, cheesy sour cream and onion, which I LOVE. Reminds me of the snow wings I had in Korea. -Crispy seasoned (spicy): Crispy wings coated in a Korean-style sweet and spicy sauce. These were actually not that spicy at all, especially compared to the other locations, which leave my mouth burning. But fine by me because the taste was on point. I think my boyfriend was a little more disappointed since he loves spicy. -Crispy shoyu: Crispy wings in a savory shoyu based sauce. These are also amazing and I can't decide if I like this or the snow wings more. It was a little light on the sauce, so not all of the chicken was completely coated. The other flavors seem just as good; I want to try the honey butter next. I noticed that they don't offer the oven roasted wings like the other Vons locations. They don't have pickled radish either :( In exchange though they have fries (honey butter ones too), mandoo, and rice cake. Vons is a welcome addition to Kaimuki. Best deal to get korean chicken. Prices have been on the rise for food and Vons is still the best deal for korean fried chicken. I've tried many other shops and while they are equally as good, Vons has the best price and comes with a decent amount of wings. The food is made to order so it does take 20 minutes to prepare most times. I recommend calling in your order. We like to get the classic chicken - no sauce. We stopped by Vons Chicken in Kaimuki the other day. It was our first time trying Vons Chicken. We bought half orders of their shoyu chicken wings and their mildly crispy seasoned wings as take outs. Vons is found on Waialae and St. Louis Drive corner. Parking is a challenge and many customers flow in and out of this tight maze. I guess it works for the regulars that stop by. The service was nice and helpful as we had questions about the many different chicken flavors on their menu. We asked what was the favorite wings that most customer purchased and she mentioned the two. We bought half baskets of each. It would have been nice if they offered combination of flavors baskets especially if you bought a full basket of 20 pieces of chicken and find out the flavor or spicy..ness was not to your liking. The half baskets go for $14.99 which has ten pieces of chicken wings and full baskets of one flavor at $28.99 with twenty wings. The chicken tasted good. Luckily the parking wasn't full when I left so I could turn into the other stalls to get me out of the cramped lot. Ordered the honey butter chicken wings. Glad I got the full order cause it was so good. Not overly sweet or seasoned, juicy, sizable wings. I think it's expensive compared to getting fried chicken at other places, but this was a special occasion so I thought they were worth it. $28 for 20 wings. Yay or nay? read more

After a day of appointments and running around we're looking for some carry out to take home for dinner. Good crispy fresh light moist, flavorful yummies. That's Vons chicken. Now if you go to Vons two days in a row you know its gotta be good. First we tried the Waialae location. At the counter there two people with big smiles ready to help us. They asked how they could help and made some small talk asking how the day was. It was a nice encounter. They let us sit after ordering and let us know they just did a wipe down of everything so everything was clean. Love this communication we got going on. The lady was especially pleasant. She had the same happy cheery attitude when the next customer came through the doors. It was nice and clean. The employees wore masks and there was hand sanitizer at the counter. They required customers to wear masks as well. There is a small shared parking lot with free parking. It is best if you enter and park from the City Mill side, especially if you have a big vehicle like me. If your driving a mid size vehicle you should be able to park anywhere. They have a few more stalls around the side of the building as well. I love me some fried chicken. They have six powerful flavors to choose from: Crispy Fried, Crispy Seasoned, Crispy Shoyu, Crispy Garlic, Honey Butter and Snow Wing. These are sold in halves- 10 pieces or full-20 pieces. These are wings and drumettes. We chose to try half Honey butter and half Crispy Garlic. The Honey Butter is the powdery looking one, it is on the sweet side but not too sweet. It is crispy and light. The breading is perfect. The meat is tender and juice. I felt good after eating. I didn't feel weighed own or like it was oily or anything. It was pleasant. The crispy garlic was a more gooey . The smell was intoxicating like you knew it was gonna be good kinda smell. Outside from the flavor and gooeyneess it was consistent with the Honey Butter. Tender and moist meat with lots of flavor. Second we tried the Pensacola location. The next day after a mid morning appointment my hubby did a pick up from the Vons Pensacola location. This time he ordered half of the Crispy Shoyu and a plate of rice and boneless chicken for $9.99. The cooking consistency on these chicken wings are unbelievable. The tenderness and moistness were on point. My hubby preferred the Crispy Shoyu over the boneless. The boneless was a gooey outside texture more so than the garlic. Overall my fave is the Honey Butter-I think its my addiction to that crispy outside, my Hubby's fave is the Crispy Garlic then the Crispy Shoyu. I cant' wait to try the Snow Wing next. The back side of the menu also shows chicken plate with rice and slaw, rice cake in mild/spicy sauce choices, mandoo, french fries in regular or honey butter(I'm deffinately trying that next), and beverages(water and soda). My friend recommended me this place and I went to try their new location on Waialae, and I have been coming back to the store for a couple times already. Their chickens are crispy and delicious. I've tried several flavors including honey butter wings, crispy fried chicken, crispy garlic, and crispy seasoned and I enjoyed them all. For the crispy seasoned, you can choose mild or spicy. I chose mild because I am not good with spicy food and mild chickens were still very tasty, well seasoned, and not spicy at all so I was satisfied with it. Full size has 20 pieces of chickens and it's more than enough for one person and probably just a good amount for two people to share. Their French fries are good too, it's a thin type. The front worker is always very nice and sweet. They make your fried chickens fresh after you order so it will take about 20 to 25 minutes to get your order. They're finally open! Been driving by wondering how and when this transformation from clinical labs to vons chicken was gonna happen. Tried everything on the menu. Chicken pieces are bigger than the vons on keeaumoku and overall very happy with the place. No free pickled radish though here. Honey butter and snow taste very similar. Sweet taste. Garlic was good too. Shoyu also good. My fave was the spicy - we got the spicier level and it was a good burn but not intolerable. The French fries were surprisingly delicious and crisp and thin. They put honey butter and snow flavorings on them. Actually the fries were the best part. Even though the chicken was excellent. The tteokbokki was not very authentic - not saucy enough, had cinnamon sweet flavor to it. Maybe they're trying to make it more palatable to a wider audience. The tteok is chewy which I like but most people might find it too chewy. The fried mandoo were popular with my friends but I didn't particularly care for them. They were small and the filling was meh. Overall a solid choice. You can order the plain chicken and buy dipping sauces if you don't wanna commit to 10 or 20 of one flavor. Also we did online ordering but my friend had the foresight to call one hour before our pickup time and found out they didn't know about the order.
