    Fried rice cakes!
    Jackie K.

First time here! I ordered the fried rice cakes sweet and spicy. The employee recommended this flavor! It's raining all day and I wanted a snack to warm me up. Cute little shop upstairs, above H Mart. I loved it! Shared a stick with my walking buddy. Food: 5/5 stars Ambiance: 3/5 stars Service: 5/5 stars

Located in the HMart Kakaako food court (2nd floor), Dada Chicken is one of my top 3 places to get KFC or chicken wings in town. Honestly, I'll be going about my day and whenever a fried chicken craving comes in my head, thinking about Dada Chicken makes my mouth start to water. Their chicken is soo juicy with a perfect crisp level and tastes really fresh. It's made to order so it comes out steaming hot. I also love their meat to bone to breading ratio. I usually get either the Honey Garlic (dry) or Soy Garlic (wet). Sometimes the best of both and I order the Honey Garlic with a side of Soy Garlic dipping sauce. The honey garlic is a lighter flavor with a hint of honey. The soy garlic isn't too salty and gives a nice umami flavor. They offer some sides like rice (one order comes with 2 scoops), French fries, rice cake. And you can do wings or boneless style. At about ~$17.99-$18.99 for 10 pieces (half order) or ~$32.99-$34.99 for 20 pieces (full order), it's pricey but the quality is worth it enough where I don't mind spending the extra bucks. They offer some sides like rice (one order comes with 2 scoops), French fries, rice cake. And you can do wings or boneless style. Service is quick and you'll hear your number called over the food court speaker when ready. Since it's in the food court, the ambiance is very casual and there's lots of seating available. Not sure if you can order a full and get 1/2 and 1/2 of flavors, but I haven't tried asking. It'll be my mission at the next visit

Annyeong, annyeong, annyeong haseyo. Yeoboseyo. Hello, hello, hello. Hello. Sweet, spicy and savory. My tastebuds are on a Korean rollercoaster ride! LOL. Today, I had KFC. Yup, Korean Fried Chicken from Dada Chicken. Round 2 at H-Mart in Kakaako. You really can't go wrong going to this supermarket because it's a one stop shop for groceries, a nice meal and a yummy dessert! If you don't get me, just go and add it to your next supermarket errand. I ordered sweet and spicy chicken with spicy tteokbokki. Each bite of the sweet and spicy chicken was bursting in flavors. Then a bite of the spicy, chewy tteokbokki feels like you're under a fiery spell of so much flavors dancing in your mouth. Yup! That's exactly what I was feeling as I was enjoying each bite! This would be so good with a good beer! And, maybe some soju?! Maybe next time ;) My only wish is that the server/cashier would be a little more attentive...the place is crowded with hungry and happy food lovers. One of my go to places when I'm at Hmart! All of their chicken flavors are great- my favorites are honey garlic and soy garlic chicken. Its well seasoned, and soooo flavorful. They always come out fresh- hot n crispy. Parking is validated after 1hr otherwise it is free. The only reason i gave 4/5 is the pricing, it seems a little overpriced. Also I know it can be slow sometimes but I often see the staff on their phone/headphones in even with customers around

Yum! I love the spicy Korean chicken flavor. I first tasted this during a Yelp Elite tasting event and had to come back and get another batch. This is located in a food court on the second level floor above Hmart in Kakaako. They provide you with clear plastic gloves so you can enjoy the chicken without messing up your fingers.

I have no idea where the name came from. The cashier told me that in Chinese characters in means an abundance of chicken. OK, sounds good to me. I purchased a 20 piece traditional wings. I couldn't decide between the soy garlic or honey garlic. The cashier explained that the honey garlic is more of a dry rub and the soy garlic is more sauced. Well, I'm a sauce person, so I went with the soy garlic. The wings were terrific. It was crispy and the inside was juicy. The sauce had a nice balance to it. It was soy, but wasn't overly salty. I could taste the sweetness in it, kind of like a light teriyaki. I've also tried their mayo wings and that's delicious as well.

You can't go wrong with Korean fried chicken! I hope this is not a fad but a staple that will stick around because this new KFC beats the KFC that we've always known (since KFC stops carrying hot wings). I love Dada Chicken because their wings are hot, crispy with a flavorful batter, meat that juicy and not bland, and most of all, they give out all flats! (Personally not a fan of the drum part.) I easily can eat all 10 pieces myself. I've tried their mayo and soy garlic, and they're both scrumptious. I never knew about this place until the food court hosted an event for the Yelp elites. Ever since that evening, it's always been on my mind to come back and get a full order of the wings, which was what I did today. :-P Conveniently located in the H Mart food court in the 2nd floor, but it sucks that they don't validate parking which is very weird. I hope they start doing that to encourage more people to enjoy the food and drinks here.

I certainly didn't have to cross the road to Dada Chicken. Located up in H Mart Kaka'ako Market Eatery parking is super convenient in the adjacent building with the first hour is free, I was conflicted with giving them a try with the various reviews but I had to give them a chance and who doesn't love fried chicken...mmmmm!!! With six types of seasonings to choose from to have as wings or boneless either half order (10pcs) or full (20pcs)... - Original which is plain - Sweet and Spicy - Mayo - Soy Garlic - Honey Garlic - Spicy Korean Style The real dilemma is not knowing how the sauces are just by relying on the staff's knowledge sometimes isn't enough. I really did want spicy for sure but not salty or sweet and I did noticed "Mayo" is something you don't really see and I asked if it's spicy which he said it was so I decided on that. The Market Eatery does have a great unique system that work cohesive with all vendors so when your order is ready it announces is with the restaurant name and order number so you know if your order is ready. With everything made to order it is a wait but not very long in my opinion, the Mayo sauce does come on the side making this a great shareable item for someone who prefers it plain. The sauce though for me is not spicy at all though I do see where a slight kick would come in though I really wouldn't say it's spicy at all in fact it's like a house made tartar and I don't like pickles at all this one I did like. The coating is ridiculously crispy and pretty thick for some I did t mind it at all, but the real struggle is that the boneless is not a chicken nugget (it's a great thing!) but pieces of chicken so that princess bites aren't happening and when you have a hot steaming pice of chicken I needed a fork to pry some pieces into bits so I don't burn myself lol!! It's a matter of preference all in all I really liked it they have ranch and ketchup you can help yourself to for free but that Mayo sauce is a winner winner for my chicken dinner! Thank you!

See any honey? Yeah, me neither.

Ive come here for the spicy fried chicken before but decided today to try something new. I was informed that the best seller is their honey garlic chicken. So I ordered a half order of it and a side of rice for like $20 something. The chicken was awful. Drenched in a ton of garlic powder and the slightest drizzle of honey. The batter was super thick and the chicken was beyond dry. I couldn't finish it and ended up throwing out most of the food. Never had a problem before with the spicy chicken, but this was just terrible.

Omg this chicken is sooo good! It was tasty, crispy and cooked to perfection! The sauce on the chicken, I got the garlic soy, wow! So bummed that it's only in Hawaii.. but will definitely come here when I come back again! If you are the owner, hit me up.. maybe we can bring up delicious recipes to the mainland! Business opportunity? Always down! Let's go! Seriously people, it's a hidden gym. Upstairs from a grocery story, must try!

Fried chicken in a food court. This venue is clean and service is quick with plenty of seating. There are many restaurant choices in the food court if you and your friends would like something different. The fried chicken was good, typical, and what you might expect. The serving size was generous. There are some drinks for sale at the counter. Alternatively there is bubble tea and coffee at other restaurants if you want something else. The line for this counter was the longest, so we decided to try it. When your food is ready, they announce it over a food court speaker you can hear while seated so you don't have to stand there and wait. Access to the food court is ADA friendly with an elevator. Park on the street (free on weekends and holidays) or in the adjacent parking garage. There are also Wheels scooters outside.

    Honey Garlic 20pc wings

I was looking for a more convenient Von's substitute. Did I find it at Dada's Chicken? Ordering is simple, we got the honey garlic fried chicken wings (20pc). It took the normal waiting time of about 20-25 minutes and came in a nice basket. Smelled and looked great! You could feel the heat coming off of the wings and it smelled more oily than honey, though we dived right in. ***CRUNCH*** crispy, juicy chicken skin! My initial thought was ohhhhh yummm. This hit the spot and my fried chicken cravings. It was generous in size, hot right out of the fryer, and we nabbed seats nearby in the nice AC. What more could you want? I think this place is a great addition to the HMart food court, probably a necessity if you're craving Korean Food. Would I deem these equal or better than Von's? I think size wise yes. The size of each wing was about the same as Von's chicken. BUT the taste was lacking. You pay extra for seasoned wings so I expect flavor, but there was almost none. Absolutely no garlic taste. It was seasoned with a powder form of honey and garlic, so it wasn't sticky. I tried the white powder on it's own and tasted literally nothing. The oil from the chicken was stronger in taste than the flavoring. So this particular flavor does not meet my expectations. If I was craving KFC again, I'd get their regular golden wings or maybe their glazed wings. But if I wanted the classic honey garlic I'm making the trek down to a Von's chicken for sure.

Frontage of new Korean Chicken spot...taking the space of Left Wing Chicken in HMart Foodcourt!
    Li Y.

Met a friend for beer tasting @ the HMart foodcourt (not recommended...but more about that later) and while we chatted away, noticed the sign for this new Korean fried chicken place. Once friend and I said our goodbyes I walked over to find out the story of Dada Chicken. Christina was so gracious and pleasant and didn't seem bothered at my endless questions, though I would have understood if she was! Lol. Now I don't usually go out of my way to try brand new places. And as I had learned, Dada JUST opened a few days prior and was still working details out. Still, do love me a good KFC so what the hay, let's do this! And, so happy I did! The chicken was juicy yet crispy. My order came out fast. And Christina, Chef's niece, was so kind to explain the different sauces she threw in my bag. She explained that usually one order would come with one sauce (right now offered on the side) with additional sauces available at a dollar more. Sauces tried and loved: 1) a slightly spicy yet sweet standard KFC sauce -loved, 2) shoyu garlic sauce - perfectly balanced and bursting with flavor -love, 3) (listed as) mayonnaise- wow! Yes it's a mayonnaise base with I think subtle jalapeño-my favorite. In fact, since I could...favorite combination was a dip in the mayonnaise then a dip in the shoyu garlic * BAM! Also enjoyed the side of pickled radish which totally complimented the chicken. Even though I shared a few pieces of the chicken with other friend (later) she did NOT get any of the pickles. Hah! Thrilled that the portion size was generous (half order is 10 meaty pieces) and more than fair priced (my other favorite KFC is only 6 pieces for similar price). And, unlike some others that only offer the mid section wing, Dada had both the mid section AND the drumette portion pieces. Yes, the little things make me happy. :-) Parking is easy as there is lots of metered street parking. There is also validated parking in the adjacent lot with purchases over $10 but I usually don't even bother. My only hope is that in time Dada Chicken offer more sides. ...Or, since it's a foodcourt...be sure to buy some kimbap or jun or kimchee from downstairs before reaching the counter! Solid 4.5 stars for this shining new business! I will be back again soon! Seriously, thinking of going today while prices still at introduction low!!

However, after having to abandon our original dinner plans, we were no less intrigued after randomly stumbling across this place. While they may not have been our first choice for dinner, coming here was far more appealing than eating fast food or at the nearby IHOP! Although seeing so many folks at this mini food truck park may have been what caught our attention, it was the boxes of fried chicken on nearly every table that swayed us to try Waikiki Chicken in Paradise in particular. After skimming the menu, it wasn't hard to see why they were such a popular choice - everything on it sounded great. Granted, that's not overly difficult when there are only eight items to choose from, but tough to argue with the likes of fried chicken loco moco, fried chicken curry rice, fried chicken sandwiches, chicken & croffle, and fish & chips! Since we saw how big the portion were and didn't want anything too heavy (read: sadly, no loco moco or Japanese curry), we opted to split a FRIED CHICKEN RICE PLATE ($16.95) which came with a Fried Chicken Cutlet over White Rice with Mac Salad & Green Salad. Funny enough, despite already having a sense of how much food they give, I was still surprised by the generous portion size. As for how it all tasted, this was great. The breading on the chicken reminded me of Popeye's (though, without the spice), the batter was crispy, and the chicken itself was rather moist. As for the sides, the mac salad was pretty good, but the salad was a little heavy on dressing. If there was one thing I could change about our order, I think I'd want to see how it would taste with a sauce or glaze. At the very least, I'd definitely go with a different dipping sauce, like their Pineapple Ginger, Lilikoi Mayo, or Guava BBQ, as the Honey Mustard we went with tasted a bit generic. Of course, we could've solved both problems if we had gone with the Fried Chicken Loco Moco or Fried Chicken Curry Rice instead! I guess I'll just have to wait until the next time I'm in Waikiki!

I uploaded this picture into chat gpt with the business explanation of the pinking in poultry and according to AI, "Pinking" can happen in cooked poultry -- but what you're showing in the photo does not look like harmless pinking. Here's the difference in plain language: Harmless "pinking" (still fully cooked) * Happens from smoking, high heat, or certain proteins. * The meat is fully opaque, firm, and cooked through. * Only the outer edge or near the bone looks pinkish. What your picture shows * The meat looks translucent, soft, and raw, especially near the joint. * There are dark, bloodlike areas around the bone. * The texture looks undercooked, not just color-changed from chemical reactions. Even with pinking, cooked chicken never looks glossy or raw in the center the way yours does. I decided not to go back to the counter because there was a language barrier and I felt the woman wasn't listening to me in the first place anyway. Threw pretty much all the food away and left hungry and down $20.

If you're just looking for the cliff notes the food is good but a bit pricy…read more With that out of the way I decided to try this place after seeing the sign and checking out the yelp pics. I was surprised to see the place pretty empty on a Friday night around 7. I went to the bar to order take out and the guy working was really nice and took my takeout order. I will say it smelled amazing in the restaurant. Food took about 10 mins to come out. The catfish was great, two pretty big pieces very well seasoned. The Mac and Cheese and Yams was also pretty good. I will say the Mac tasted better than it looked and I only say that because at first glance it didn't seem to have much cheese but I was wrong. The corn bread tasted good but was dry. I warmed it and added some butter and that didn't trick. The only thing I personally wasn't a fan of was the greens. They weren't necessarily bad but like Keith Lee says I don't know if I'm their target audience. They tasted a bit sweet and there was something else in the seasoning that I wasn't a huge fan of but couldn't quite put my finger on. I almost forgot the plate came with "yellow seasoned rice" which is under the fish on the Mac side. Honestly it's a free inclusion so not super fair to judge it. Everything in the picture was about $47 bucks. In my opinion that's a bit high and I'm guessing that's because it's in Waikīkī. I definitely plan to go back especially to try the Happy Hour, and I'd like to dine in to see how that goes.

We were right there, so I ordered a Smoked BBQ Rib plate. It came with 2 sides. We chose Baked beans and Green beans with smoked turkey. Service was very friendly and efficient! I believe that they worker said, "I appreciate you!" Wow! That's very nice of him! We took the plate home (it was too windy to sit alongside the busy sidewalk) and discussed the tasty ribs, sweet (molasses?) Baked beans and yummy green beans with smoked turkey. Mmm! I would return and get the catfish plate, Po Boy sandwich, and walking tacos!

Time for an update!…read more If you're a Frrrrrrried Chicken fan like Bruddah Fran, KJ's Local GRINDZ in Kaneohe is one of da BESTEST places for dat golden crispy Frrrrrrried Chicken! Through da years I've heard numerous times about the MAAAAAAAAAAAASIVE Frrrrrrrried Chicken plate! Although the prices have gone up, and the plates have gotten a wee-bit smaller......and when I say "smaller", I mean from ridiculous, to only massive now. Lol! True, KJ's Local GRINDZ does do other items, but Frrrrrrried Chicken is my crack, and every time I come here thinking I will try something else, once I open my mouth & speak, some how only "Frrrrrrried Chicken plate", only comes out of my mouth. Lol! Anyways, KJ's has been around for a long time in the Kaneohe neighborhood. It's your typical local style eatery serving local style plate lunches. KJ's Local Grindz also sells snacks like cookies & various breads. If you're ever in the Kaneohe area, make sure you stop by KJ's for dat Frrrrrrried Chicken!!!!

Not too salty, not overly seasoned with furikake, and the pieces of chicken are pretty generous. I do recommend calling in your order ahead of time. Open for 3-4 years, it is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that locals who live and work in the neighborhood are cognizant of as a hidden gem. I am not the biggest fan of chicken...give me duck, anyday. But a good chicken sandwich is a meal that I can appreciate. Looking at the menu on the picture window...I had to wonder is Uncle: Korean...African-American...Deep South gentleman? Well, I think he's Taiwanese. Menu revolves around chicken. They have plates, sandwiches, and slushies. I got the Taro Hokkaido Slushie for takeout. It was okay...I can't tell you what it tastes like...other than that it was sweet. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich was unassuming. It was slightly spiced...a bit different than I am used to and it had a bit of a kick. I would not order anything spicy from their menu. Piece of battered chicken breast that was both juicy and flavorful. A real surprise. Service was just under 15 minutes...I walked in and ordered takeout. There was one order ahead of me. Dining area is bigger than you would think, but there are only four tables inside...it is mostly a takeaway place. Parking stalls are for Uncle's and the plaza. Stalls at Upscale, as well. Hours are from 1030a till 930p...except on Fridays and Saturdays, when they close at 1000p.
