The menu is almost the same but it's worth sitting inside if you're with a group, or if you want to enjoy your food HOT 'n FRESH. We ordered just about every single flavor offered on the menu, and there wasn't a single bad one. We love the original (naked one) and the Hell's Gate (no refund, no lawsuit). It was not as spicy as I was expecting it to be, honestly, but it was still delicious! We also l loved all the sides! The corn salad tastes just like the ones you order in Korea, and the dduk with yangneom sauce was yummm. The fries were crispy and don't forget to order some pickled radish for that delicious, vinegary crunch. Our cashier, Cheryl, was nice enough to let us sit inside Bliss Lounge so that we'd be more comfortable in the A/C. We both opted for the six piece bone in combo. It came with one side and one drink. Nadine got her chicken with honey and chose the gimmari as her side. I got the chicken with shoyu and chose the mandoo as my side. I've never even heard of gimmari (deep fried glass noodles in seaweed) before this place. I really liked it, but Nadine preferred the mandoo. Both the honey and shoyu flavorings were delicious. We've passed by this vendor on Dillingham Boulevard many times because Costco is nearby. We heard that it was somehow connected with Bliss Lounge next door. We found out that the owner does own both businesses. We were invited to dine inside the lounge (instead of sitting outside with the wind, exhaust fumes, and traffic passing by). Great idea because of the air conditioning, convenient restroom, and comfy booth seating! Cheryl was our friendly, helpful cashier. She took our orders, told us where the entrance to Bliss Lounge was; turned the air conditioning on for us; told us where the best seat was for maximum AC; brought our meals to us; and was the perfect, cheerful, efficient host! Angel ordered the Shoyu Chicken Wings and Mandoo. I got the Honey Chicken Wings and Gimmari. We shared so that we could have a taste of each other's meals. I liked everything. I wouldn't be able to pick a favorite because each item was good in its own way. Both types of chicken wings were tasty and crunchy on the outside, and moist on the inside. These days Korean fried chicken wings competition is pretty fierce. I read about Soul Chicken while back but never made it down mainly because it didn't seem like there was any sitting area. I was wrong. You can go to Bliss Karaoke/bar next door and order Soul Chicken there and eat them in nice AC room. I'm guessing that both of the establishments are owned by the same people. There were 2 tables right outside but one of the staff lady told us to go inside Bliss Karaoke. She was so nice. For now, my family highly approves Soul Chicken with great, juicy fried chicken wings made to order of course. They were impressed that inside the chicken was so juicy. We tried the honey, garlic and Yang Nyeom (slightly spicy for you spicy lovers out there.) We also ordered little fried seaweed wrap with long rice in them. Those were also good. It was like little spring rolls. They are on Dillingham so expect some traffic as there's major construction in this area. I was thinking of chicken for the day and I looked up the nearest place for a chicken and ended up here. But then I got confused at first cause I could not find the restaurant name Soul Chicken. I then found a sign on a door that said "Soul Chicken" at the "Bliss Karaoke Lounge." So I went in and yes it was there. Sure glad I was able to find it cause I ordered the spicy chicken combo with mandoo and french fries and it turned out to be a perfect meal. The spicy chicken was so moist and tasty and the french fries did not require any ketchup, they tasted so good on its own. And the mandoo was so crunch and moist inside with that sumptuous taste I can not forget, WOW! Moreover, I even got to sing a song with the karaoke mic. Ohhhhh so good. Their wings were succulent and the outside was crispy!!! The fries and chicken tenders were pretty good too! Their wasabi mayo was excellent for dipping too! So glad I came to check this spot out! You order at a stand and you Can either sit at one of the two tables outside with the view of a concrete drill vehicle or you can eat inside Bliss karaoke lounge with funky colorful chairs and dart machines, alcohol bottles and TVs surrounding you. So I chose the latter. The seating was pretty comfy and oh my the ladies were so nice and sweet! Even though I got takeout; she brought the bag to me and took out the boxes for me. She asked if I needed plates and more utensils etc. There's also bathroom inside and it's decent. It's kinda old but at least it's clean. Saturday at 12p found parking in the adjacent lot and ordered from the window. The lady was SO Nice and allowed us to sample some of the wing sauces before ordering. Located in Bliss Lounge at a strip mall ( I don't know the name of) on 1095 Dillingham Blvd. There are stalls in front of Bliss but parking is tight. I went on a Wednesday afternoon just after 100p and it was packed. There is a ordering window facing Dillingham. You can order wings or boneless pieces. i tried the 7 piece flavored boneless chicken for $10.95. Five flavors are available: Honey, Yang Neom, Wasabi Mayo, Hell's Gate ( no way was I even gonna ask ) and Shoyu. Regular fried pieces are $9.95...14 pieces, just add $9. There are two tables outside and customers can wait and/or dine inside of Bliss. The taste...quite good but on Oahu where there are quite a few options, I've had better. And if you want, you can also eat there since they have two shaded outside tables. Short and simple menu and you just wait for your number to be called! I got some plain wings and honey garlic wings, but the lady who took my order gave us a couple more sauces one of which was a Wasabi flavored sauce which was delicious and a very mild sauce which were both delicious. The wings are pretty good in size compared to other wings I've had and were still hot and crispy even after driving home. Impressive! Their seaweed wrapped rice noodles - gimmari are also delicious. Combo meals come with one side and a drink (coke products only). I got the fries because they fry them up so crispy. One thing I wish they would change was the Pickled turnip cubes...I'm used to getting a small serving as part of the meal, but you need to pay for it which I learned after getting home and being disappointed. But it's just a little more than a dollar if the online prices are up to date. Live and learn. It's not located in a little pop up stall on Dillingham Blvd anymore, but have moved into the Bliss Karaoke bar. First two times I wanted to check it out they were closed.   Third time is a charm! Once you get to the window at Soul Chicken you realize it is much more than a window.  It is a peek into the full service kitchen and take out business which also serves restaurant/karaoke bar adjoining it. The korean fried chicken was as good as they get in Hawaii.  Loved the taste and the crunch.  Prices consistent with other KFC places around town.  What stood out for me were the nice offerings of side dishes.  I loved that the side of pickled radish was only 50 cents.  The duk mochi bites were flavorful.  Was excited to see something I haven't seen since my visit to Korea this past summer and at only one local grocery market here in Honolulu...love that gimmari, glass noodles stuffed into seaweed then deep fried, producing a nice crispy slightly chewy snack.  Get a side order of gimmari!  Get a large side of gimmari then dip it in a sauce. This relatively new shop in Dillingham has a super cute seating area (two tables) that looks straight out of a k-drama. They also have seating in Bliss, the lounge next door. They have some seriously tasty kfc like the boneless honey chicken that we got, that was SO crispy on the outside and the perfect balance of sweet and savory. the Yangnyeom (sweet & spicy) chicken wings were SPICYYY but in the best way possible. i absolutely LOVED the tteokbokki - like it was the best i've ever had although some might say it's on the sweeter side. the fries were so fluffy and crispy on the outside which i also loved, and the chi-bob was a killer deal cause it comes with so much rice and one-bite chicken pieces. i also loved the sweet buns that they used for the spicy chicken sandwich!! They're located across of HCC on Dillingham and the parking lot is to the right of it. When I got there, there was only one person in front of me so it was pretty quick to order. And the lady taking my order was so nice and friendly. I ordered a 6 piece wings original fried chicken, 6 piece wings Yang nyeom, gimmari, and mandoo. The Yang nyeom was my favorite! Sweet and spicy with the perfect amount of flavor and still crispy. I wish that was all we ordered and lots of it. Lol The mandoo was my least favorite because it tasted like the frozen ones. Nonetheless, everything was very good and tasty. They also give you pickled radish. The chicken is a little on the pricier side, but totally worth it. The sides are reasonable. This cute little nook right on Dillingham Blvd serves up some serious chicken and much more than the others. It's not just bulk friend chicken or in a bowl you can get them wings or boneless (plain or sauced), sandwich, salad, Chi-bob (Chicken bowl) or combo (side + drink) so many options which one will you have!? I had to try the bowl of course and boneless honey to take home. Well the bowl was different I did get it the standard original with the topping they offer shoyu + mayo not pictured that I can see was it also topped with pickled daikon (takuan) which was bizarre I actually took a bite and didn't really like it and the rice was mushy and to be honest not the the usual kind of rice we're all used to so I don't know what type or brand it is but the chicken was yummy then I dropped the whole bowl :'( gahhh!! Ahh well the bowl wasn't meant to be for me but went home and excited to co continue the fried chicken feast!! Everything is made fresh to order and so worth the wait, still hot the chicken is done perfectly crispy, they do know exactly what their doing and I chose honey because they say it's one of the popular flavor...skeptical but tried it...OMG! It was actually the best sauce from any Korean fried chicken in my opinion and is the closest flavor that I remember from way back in the day when Korean wings had first started it's roots. I absolutely love love love spicy and all but also love a great fried chicken and the sauce that brings it out the best and here at Soul Chicken they seemed to have figured that out. As I drove my car in to Chung's Alignment to get some work done (also a 5 star biz), I see this little shack right off the sidewalk. What? How odd. I just had to try it. I got the 7 pieces of boneless chicken for $8.95. Now to choose a flavor. Shoyu? Honey? Wasabi mayo? Yang nyeom (spicy sweet)? Hell's gate ("no refund, no law sue")??? I got the honey flavor. First off, the fried chicken is excellent - very crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside... not one dry piece! I'm impressed! Next, the sticky sweet sauce has a bit of garlic, which makes me happy. I would get it again. But, I need to try the other flavors too! If I weren't at Chung's, I would park in the lot next to Soul Chicken where there are a lot of other food spots. While I waited for my chicken, I visited Hana Tea, next to Lox of Bagels. There's lots of interesting businesses here. But that shack next to the sidewalk is hard to miss! read more

We are on a mission to try the new KFC joints that have recently opened on Oahu. First up - Soul Chicken, since it's the most convenient for us on weekends. I called our order in ahead of time to avoid having to wait on-site. We tried the 6-piece honey chicken wings, 6-piece sweet & spicy chicken wings, the 7-piece boneless (no sauce), and the Gimmari. The kids loved the boneless chicken - it was moist and easy to eat since there were no bones or cartilage to mess with. Between the honey and sweet & Spicy, I liked the honey a lot. The hubby thought the sweet & spicy was better. But you can't go wrong with either - they're both tasty and plump. The Gimmari was ok, nothing special IMHO. Next time I'll try the french fries. As a bonus, it's right around the corner from Hana Tea! :D read more

On a recent change of plans that left me with a free night for dinner, I decided to try out Soul Chicken (SC), one of Oahu's newest KFC joint. I mean, as a fan of Korean fried chicken I just had to investigate. Located next to Kokea Center (corner of Dillingham Blvd and Kokea St.) with nearby businesses of H&R Block, Hana Tea and Yohei Sushi, SC is a small window that offers Korean fried chicken. Their menu is simple: chicken wings, boneless chicken, chicken sandwich and assorted sides. As I studied the menu I was entertained of their spiciest flavor of "Hell's Gate", with the disclosure of "no refund and no law sue." You have been warned! I just had Von's Chicken several days ago so I wasn't in the mood for chicken wings. I decided on their spicy chicken sandwich combo. After paying I was given a receipt and was advised a 10-15min wait. I used the waiting time to snap some photos to attach to this review. My food order was initially given to the wrong person but that error was soon rectified. I hopped into my car and drove straight home. VERDICT: Food here is made to order so my sandwich and sides were still very hot. I was quite impressed with my styrofoam box as the chicken sandwich was quite substantial in volume and in weight. After cutting my sandwich in half, it was finally time to dig in. The spicy chicken sandwich was delicious - - layers of boneless chicken thigh meat was deep fried with an amazing crunchy exterior. The dark meat was juicy and the exterior was seasoned with a semi sweet and spicy sauce. Lightly dressed red cabbage and cabbage slaw brought freshness to the sandwich and that tiny bit of vinegar to cut the grease. The components of the spicy chicken sandwich have such a great balance and well thought out. For my side, I chose gimmari, or deep fried seaweed rolls. It was crunchy and warm with just a touch of sesame oil flavor. In my paper bag I also found some seasoned french fries that were still hot and crunchy. Not sure if that's some grand opening promotion or if it was put in my bag in error. They have 2 outdoor dining tables on the side for dine in. I didn't see any dedicated parking for SC so I ended up parking at next door Kokea Center and walked over. Overall, a very pleasant first experience trying SC that has me wanting to next get their chicken wings. I do like spicy foods but I will assure you that I won't be getting their Hell's Gate because it's no fun when you kill your taste buds and cannot enjoy eating your food. read more

New KFC! Korean Fried Chicken Alert! There's a new chicken place in the same strip mall as Yohei and Hana Tea, on Dilingham Street, Diamond Head direction. You can park in the mall. I ordered the Yang Nyeom 7 piece boneless. It was crispy and the sauce was sweet and tangy. They only had boneless that day, so in my mind, I was bummed out, since I was thinking I was getting chicken nuggets. (Like some other places...) This place serves chicken thigh strips, so actually, the boneless option had way more meat. So it's odd the boneless choice you get 7 pieces and bone-in you get 6 pieces. I guess there's a cost with bone-in or something. The rice cake with the yang nyeom sauce was properly cooked and slightly crispy exterior. It's a fairly new spot and there were a lot of people waiting for their chicken. Seems like they wanted to hire more people to handle the demand. I made a phone order but I still had to wait. Be patient and call ahead to reduce your wait time. I'm going back to try the bone-in wings, which I'm sure will be awesome. Soul Chicken name doesn't scream Korean, but hey, good chicken is good chicken. Seoul Chicken is what I thought it was called. read more
