I lucked out though and got a space right on the road in the residential area. Seating for happy hour is in the bar area. Service matches the restaurant as it is upscale and efficient. While the prices are not cheap, they are more than reasonable. The quality of dishes warranting. Most memorable for us were the arancini and lamb lollipops. Steak was, as expected, delicious too. We had Father's Day dinner reservations for 5:45 - we popped in right on the dot because I had a bit of a mishap finding the valet spot around the corner - it's a One Way, guys lol. If you're coming from Kuhio, turn left AFTER the Lilia sign. If you're coming from Ala Wai, turn right BEFORE. Anyway! When we walked in, I was a bit concerned at the number of people standing in the foyer. No one wanted to be outside in the afternoon sun so it was standing room only. But I wondered, were all these people reservations too?? Are they walk ins?? By the way - sandy feet, wet hair, and swimwear cover ups are NOT within the business casual dress code. We were called for seating at 5:52 and taken into the Queen Liliuokalani (side) room which only has 4 tables - again I wondered, will we be neglected in here?? But it was actually nice being away from the main dining area. I appreciate being able to have quiet conversation with my family and Not hear anyone else's. PAUL! Paul is polished, composed, attentive, efficient, and overall, just ... smooth. His service was so, seamless. Everything was delicious and arrived at just the right intervals. It was truly a wonderful dinner experience for us! PS - yes, there is a kids menu (chicken tenders, cheeseburger...) but my Little Mister felt it would be absurd for him to have "drive thru type food" in such a fancy restaurant lol! Our experience at Capital Grille was amazing. Making a reservation was easy. Complimentary valet is a huge perk in Waikiki. And most important: the food was fantastic. It was still HH (4pm-6pm), so we were in time to order a couple of the New York strip HH plates and some glasses of the Acquisition cabernet;a great combo. We also had the Lollipop Lamb Chops and the complimentary "bread service". We were sitting at the bar, and the service by the two lady bartenders was excellent. Capital Grille is a new addition to Waikiki, and it's consistent with other Capital Grille experiences I've had. In my opinion, the steaks are good, but the quality does not quite match the price. There are no large format steaks for two or three on the menu, so we each ordered our own. Both in my opinion were a bit under-salted. While the servers are nice, the service itself is a bit inconsistent. They also forgot one of our items until we asked for it, so we received a starter after our steaks. I had studied the "Capital Hour" menu and ordered the Cast Iron Garlic Shrimp, Petite Filet Sandwiches, Caesar Salad Bites, and the Parmesan Garlic Fries. If i knew that we were getting a complimentary bread basket (lavosh, rolls, and 2 other kinds of bread), I wouldn't have ordered the fries. My friend was really happy with the food! Although we made a reservation, we were informed that they no longer accept reservations for happy hour and now operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Luckily, we arrived right when they opened at 4pm, so we had no trouble getting seated. The space felt upscale overall, yet still relaxed around the bar area, and the service was attentive and pleasant. I ordered the Classic Margarita, which was exactly as described--simple, refreshing, and well-balanced. The Mushroom Truffle Arancini was delicious, with the mushrooms adding a rich, earthy flavor. We also had the Grille's Signature Cheeseburger with French fries. I requested medium doneness, but it was cooked slightly more than that. It didn't bother me too much since it was still a flavorful and satisfying burger. That said, I did notice that items we had leaned on a bit strong truffle flavor and were a bit on the salty side. Located on the corner of Kuhio and Kanekapolei street. We walked over from our work place and dined here for happy hour available everyday from 4p-6p. Know that they don't take reservations for happy hour and that it's only walk-in for the bar area only. It started off a little rocky, when you first walk into the establishment, there's an interesting smell to the place, to which at first, smelled like a mix of onion and body odor. Not sure if it was from the woodsy elements of the wine lockers or the welcome mat but luckily it was only in the immediate doorway when walking in. We quickly got seated at a high-top near the bar, to which Mike was our server. There was a huge horse fly buzzing around on the window nearest us when we sat and we kindly asked for it to be taken care of, to which it didn't quite happen. Though eventually the fly, flew elsewhere by the time our food was placed on the table, thank goodness. As for the food, the lamb was by far my favorite item on the happy hour menu. It was prepared well and didn't have a gamey taste. The oysters were yummy, as well as the house bread. The sliders' buns were a little too dry for my liking, but overall the food was good. When utilizing the restrooms, I realized there was a whole different dining section with booths and private rooms. Wife and I visited on a Saturday night and although the restaurant was busy, they easily accommodated us with a short notice reservation. We shared the porcini rubbed balsamic ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. The creamed spinach was on point as well. I was so glad Capital Grille added Happy Hour!! I don't eat a lot and the portions were just right. I went with a friend and we split the happy hour steak. We ordered medium raw. (Rare). It was perfectly cooked and served with a chimchurri like sauce. Yummy. The lamb chops came with a balsamic glaze. 2 chops one for each of us. It was so to die for. We spotted the shrimp dish served in a cast iron dish and we had to try it. The sauce was amazing. The shrimp were served on tiny toasts that sopped up the tasty sauces. Average food and service for a very high price. For appetizers, we ordered fried calamari and lobster mac and cheese. The calamari was excellent--very soft, not rubbery (which is rare), and lightly breaded. The mac and cheese, however, was underwhelming. The pasta lacked flavor, there was an overwhelming amount of breadcrumbs, and while the lobster was tender, it didn't have much taste. For our mains, we had a dry-aged NY strip. The outside was overly charred and slightly bitter, though the inside was cooked well. Unfortunately, it was still a bit tough to chew. Dessert was the highlight of the meal. The strawberry sorbet was outstanding--fresh, aromatic, and not overly sweet. Easily one of the better sorbets I've had in a while. Service was average, especially given our group of seven. The table was meant for six, but we were told it would work. The seventh person didn't receive a water glass or utensils for quite some time, and there were additional issues with utensils later in the evening. I also found it amusing that I was given a large serving spoon for my mac and cheese, even though it was my main dish. This review is just based on my first experience here. The night did not start out well after waiting 15 despite showing up for our reservation on time. The waiter then told us that they are out of the dry aged steaks i seriously thought he was joking. So no NY or about a quarter of their menu. The only steak they had was the ribeye and tenderloin. How can a steakhouse run out of steak? They had their reservations well in advance and should have known this would happen. First was the caesar and the french onion soup. The french onion soup was overly salty and my kids could not finish it. They always order this at good steakhouses and this was the first time they said this. I tried it and it was almost like they made a mistake and added too much salt. The Caesar was good. Appreciate that it was a 'real' caesar and not a creamy caesar. But it was not nearly as good as the Hy's caesar. Our mains included ribeyes and the tenderloin with lobster. I had the porcini crusted ribeye and it was very good. Great crust and good flavor. The crusted ribeye was definitely more tasty than the regular. The tenderloin and lobster was also very good except one of the tenderloins had a big piece of fatty gristle, which is surprising for a tenderloin. Sides were both very good. The truffle fries had a strong truffle flavor and the cream corn was a good choice as well. So why 3 stars? If it is a nice restaurant i am more demanding and if i am dropping about $600 for 4 people i expect more. They did not pass the water test. 3 times my water was empty. Got seated late with little empathy about our wait. Food was probably a 4 to 4.5 but the fact that they ran out of dry aged steaks just rubbed me the wrong way and the french onion soup dropped the rating as well. If i go back i will re-rate it but there are probably other places I would go to instead before trying here again. read more

I grabbed a seat at the bar and still had a top tier experience, which says a lot. The world food tour eagerly awaited the opening of the Honolulu location of this nationwide chain of steakhouses. We've dined at locations in Atlanta, Seattle, Las Vegas and two in Orlando. We didn't take a chance with the valet parking at Lilia Waikiki; we parked in the International Marketplace lot as I can control where my car is parked and I had business to conduct at one of the stores. The restaurant is in the same building as Olili Waikiki, Piko, Han No Daidokoro and Waikiki Market. It's a nice, airy space with windows on two sides ... A change from the traditional steakhouse. There is a nice bar, and a glass walled wine "cellar". We were seated at a booth for two near the entrance. I ordered a 2022 Shafer One Point Five cabernet from Napa ($267) and we enjoyed it with various breads and an appetizer of Caviar with Caramelized Onion Dip with chips ($49). The wine was rich, with chocolate and dark fruit ... surprisingly soft for a young cab. The onion dip was very creamy, not what I expected. It came with nice, crispy potato chips but I found the dip more enjoyable when using lavosh or bread as they weren't salted. We chose the Porcini rub bone-in ribeye with 15yr old glazed Balsamic ($95) and the veal chop ($76, special of the day) along with Soy-glazed Brussel Sprouts with bacon ($19) and Roasted Mushrooms ($19) as sides. Everything was finished very dark and, with the subdued lighting, difficult to see details and take pictures without resorting to flash photography which I refrain from doing as to not bother other diners. My veal chop reminded me of a thick Kurobuta pork chop; it was tender and flavorful. The brussels sprouts was delicious; the roasted mushrooms were okay. My fellow foodie said her steak was delicious, though it was hard to see what she was eating. We had Michael box the entrees and sides and ordered a Flourless Espresso cake ($15) and a cup of Illy coffee ($6). What did we think? The food was delicious, though somewhat one note in coloration (our fault), and service (from Michael) was fine. Capital Grille has finally arrived in Waikiki, and we couldn't resist checking it out just 12 days after their grand opening. From the moment we walked in, the team made us feel right at home. Special shoutout to our server Emma and sommelier Christopher--both incredibly knowledgeable and attentive in guiding us through the evening. We kicked things off with cocktails. I went with the Passion Fruit Mojito, refreshing and balanced--sweet enough without being cloying, with just the right kick of alcohol. One guest ordered The Doli, a signature Capital Grille classic described by Emma as vodka infused with fresh pineapple, taking on the very best of each. She was right--it was light, tropical, and dangerously smooth. Our last cocktail was the In Fashion, a refined twist on the Old Fashioned that delivered a smoother, more modern sip. A bread basket soon followed with three varieties: a pillowy onion bread, a hearty seeded roll, and my personal favorite--the crisp, flavorful flatbread crackers that paired beautifully with the cocktails. For starters, we couldn't pass up the Nueske's Double Cut Cherrywood Bacon with Korean BBQ glaze. The smoky-sweet flavor was there, though a touch on the salty side. Next came the Pan-Fried Calamari with Hot Peppers--the unanimous favorite of the night. Perfectly crisp on the outside, tender calamari within, and just the right amount of heat from the peppers. We also sampled the Clam Chowder and French Onion Soup--both satisfying if you're craving something comforting, though not standouts. For mains, we went with two of their signature cuts. The Gorgonzola-Crusted Dry-Aged Bone-In NY Strip sounded like a showstopper but landed in the "just okay" category for me. The Porcini Rubbed Bone-In Ribeye with 15-Year Aged Balsamic also had promise, but the execution didn't quite wow us. Sides included the Creamed Spinach, which wasn't as creamy as expected (as you'll see in the photos), and the Lobster Mac & Cheese, rich but overly salty--though when eaten with the spinach, the flavors balanced out a bit better. Christopher recommended a 2013 Lassègue to pair with our meal, and it turned out to be an excellent choice--lush, elegant, and really the highlight of the main course. For dessert, we closed with two classics: the Flourless Chocolate Espresso Cake and the Crème Brûlée. The brûlée had a thicker caramelized crust than I prefer, which tipped it toward overly sweet. The cake, however, was decadent and deeply satisfying--something I'd definitely order again. A well-made cappuccino, courtesy of Emma, rounded out the evening perfectly. Overall takeaway: The service was top-notch, the drinks creative, and the appetizers absolutely delivered. The entrées, soups, and sides, however, felt underwhelming for a steakhouse of this caliber. That said, they're still fresh into their Waikiki opening, and I'd give them a few months to iron out the kinks before my next visit. So I was very happy to learn that Capital Grille was finally coming to Honolulu. This place opened September 2025, I think, and did not disappoint. Outstanding experience. Steak quality was very good and service was excellent. Someone on my table ordered the chicken with rissotto and that too was very good. The two chicken breasts that comes with the dish were moist and not dried out. I'm not an expert on risotto but that risotto was very tasty. The chicken is totally worth the price to me. And the steaks we had I thought were at a good price too for the quality. Of the three national steakhouse chains in Honolulu that I'm aware of, this one ranks up there tied for first to me. Thanksgiving reservations at 6:15pm. Conveniently valet parked on side of building. Greeted by friendly hostess who quickly sat us at a nice table in front of the open kitchen. Atmosphere was busy and upbeat. Keola introduced himself, went through the specials and fulfilled all our suggestions and inquiries. We had reserved a private room for 12 people, but when we arrived, the reservation had not been properly logged. This created confusion right from the start and set the tone for the night. Throughout dinner, the management and team did not appear organized, and service felt very slow and disjointed. A major concern was that our son, who is under 18, was mistakenly served and charged for an alcoholic beverage -- something that should never happen, especially at this level of dining. The final disappointment was being told they had something "special" for a birthday celebration, only to later find that the dessert was charged to our bill. That felt misleading and unnecessary. Absolutely outstanding experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, everything felt polished and effortless the complimentary valet parking was a huge plus in Waikiki and immediately set the tone for a relaxed evening. We started with the cold seafood platter, which was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented oysters, shellfish, everything cold, clean, and exactly as it should be. We also had the prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella and tomatoes, which was perfectly balanced and a great way to start the meal. For drinks, we ordered an espresso martini and a Dirty Goose (Gray Goose dirty martini with blue cheese olives), both made expertly. I also enjoyed a Lagavulin 16 scotch, neat, which was served properly and without hesitation. Our server, Mike, was phenomenal, attentive without hovering, extremely knowledgeable, and completely on point. He explained the menu clearly, made great recommendations, anticipated our needs, and everything came out promptly with almost no wait. You can tell he takes pride in his service. For our mains, we had the Gorgonzola-encrusted New York strip and a filet mignon, along with a blue cheese wedge salad. Both steaks were cooked perfectly, seasoned well, and plated beautifully. The timing was spot on, and the execution was flawless. The ambiance deserves mention as well luxurious, comfortable, and refined, with tasteful décor that makes it feel like a true upscale dining experience. We left completely satisfied, full, and already talking about our next visit. This was an excellent meal, expertly executed, with top-tier service to match. We will absolutely be returning. Had an excellent experience at The Capital Grille in Honolulu. The food and service were outstanding, and the entire team made the evening special. Denise, Lena, and Vanessa were fantastic hostesses -- welcoming, friendly, and set a great tone the moment I walked in. At the bar, Matt, Dillon, and Catelyn were amazing -- great conversation, top-notch service, and genuine hospitality. Matt and Dillon joked that their names together sounded like the actor from Gunsmoke, which happens to be my mom's favorite show. Catelyn had a great personality, was very attentive to guests, and it was a pleasure speaking a little Polish with her. Dillon also shared that he used to live in Maui and knew Kahale's, which made for a great connection. Truly a memorable night with great people and even better hospitality. Semper Fi.
