The fries are amazing with it, and even the catfish takes on a whole new level of flavor when you dunk it in that sauce. I'd probably consider myself a regular at this point, and 9 out of 10 visits the food is phenomenal. Every once in a great while--maybe once every six months--you'll get seafood that's a little fishier than expected, and it might make you hesitate before coming back. But then your next visit reminds you exactly why you keep returning. The food is consistently some of the best seafood you'll find. The service is another reason I love this place. The wait staff is always friendly, especially one of the local aunties who always makes us feel welcome. The manager is constantly walking the dining room, checking on guests and making sure everyone is enjoying themselves. It's refreshing to see a manager who genuinely cares about the customer experience. The restaurant itself is a lot of fun. The nautical decorations make you feel like you're sitting in a dockside seafood shack. It almost feels like they're dropping crab pots out back and bringing your dinner straight to the table. I was so happy to know there was a boiling crab in Honolulu and knew we had to go!! We came around 6 pm on a Saturday and was expecting it to be jammed packed like the one in Vegas but luckily there was no wait and we were seated right away! One thing to note: the parking system at SALT is a hassle. Unless you've already set up your credit card with the app ahead of time, it's not very user-friendly -- especially for older people like my parents. It's all digital, and you must remember to scan the validation QR code from the restaurant, or you'll be charged the full rate. For how much we spent on the meal, it's disappointing that parking wasn't fully covered. At that price point, it should be. If you're wondering if you can handle a higher spice level the answer is probably no. We ordered the mild and it definitely had some heat! My husband and I went to The Boiling Crab the other weekend with my son and daughter in-law. They have gone several time before but this was our first time. The food was great and very favorable without being spicy. My husband cannot eat spicy food but our waitress was very sweet and assured us that they could make it not spicy. 04/11/2026 7pm party of 16-20 people. Disappointed with Service and Management We came in tonight excited for dinner and at first everything started off great. We ordered the bang bang shrimp (non-spicy) and it was really good. Since our daughter wanted more, my wife ordered another one--also non-spicy. This time, it came out noticeably spicy. Our daughter took one bite and said it was too spicy, so my wife and I tried it as well and agreed it definitely was a bit spicy for our daughter. We let our server know, and she was helpful and took it back. When the dish returned, we were told the kitchen said it was made non-spicy--but it still tasted spicy to us. We politely asked for a new one with no spice. At that point, the cook came out and immediately had an attitude, asking what was wrong with it and insisting he made it correctly. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, he was defensive and rude, even shaking his head as he walked away. Because of how uncomfortable the situation became, we decided to just cancel the order. Before leaving, we asked to speak to a manager. Unfortunately, the same person who cooked the shrimp came out--and he was even more unprofessional. As we tried to calmly explain the situation and how he came across, he told us we could leave and said he would call security. That was honestly shocking. For context, I'm a cook and my wife is a server, so we understand how the restaurant industry works. Mistakes happen--that's not the issue. It's how they're handled. Zero starts because when a family goes out to dinner you expect at least decent service. The server Lia, when asked to order Cajun fries but leave some regular fries on the side for my autistic 4 year old said she isn't allowed to. My first time trying this place despite going to the kakaako/SALT area at least weekly because none of my friends like shellfish/are allergic, but I decided on New Year's Eve f*** it I'm gonna order an entire crawfish combo meal for MYSELF as a treat (I am 90 pounds soaking wet) And whew what a treat it was. This was definitely a two person endeavor. I got all the sauces, extra sauce, medium spice (it was hot !!!) and they gave me lemons and salt pepper. The crawfish combo came with a ton of crawfish, half a pound each of clams, fat mussels, and head on shrimp. Plus rice, yummy sausages, corn, and potato's which were very good but I focused on the seafood. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. as soon as the lovely server put the little crab bib on me, I felt like Jim Carrey putting on the green mask from The Mask (1994). I must've been possessed or something cuz I blacked out and ate all that seafood and one side of rice and some potato by myself. I had sausages/corn/potato's for leftovers but all that yummy shellfish was demolished and the heads of the crawfish and those huge shrimps sucked dry. Threw in a modelo with my meal and that was a real cherry on top. Didn't need gloves and I felt feral scooping up sauced up rice with my hands, the way it should be.
