Not the freshest poke if I'm being honest. They must capitalize on being the only poke spot for miles because I don't understand how they have 4+ stars. The portions were small. I missed the photo op but there was nothing captivating. The spicy sauce on the spicy salmon couldn't cover up the gamey taste. Same goes for the miso ahi, but it was slightly better than the salmon. The poke wasn't cut consistently, had some stringy pieces, and wasn't cold enough either. It seemed like it had been saturated for a while, too slimy. Everytime I come to Oahu, Ono Seafood is on my 'must-go' list while visiting! I first discovered this spot in 2016 and have been back multiple times over the years and on our recent trip had the chance to show my partner why I love it so much! On this latest visit we decided to get the wasabi ahi and the spicy ahi. Both were really good but the wasabi was the one for me. We got the two selection combo, which we shared, but honestly I could've eaten this whole thing on my own no problem. The ahi tasted super fresh and since we got there right when they opened, it was even better. They have a small parking lot with just a handful of spots. Getting there early, parking wasn't a problem at all. They have some tables outside so we were able to eat it there before taking off for the airport. Definitely more of a takeout spot. We didn't spend much time in the area, so it was the last meal we had before taking off to the airport and I couldn't think of a better meal to end an amazing trip. My boyfriend and I wanted to eat a good poke bowl so we made a stop at Ono Seafood on our way into Waikiki. There are only a couple stalls in the front of the store so parking is not the greatest. Before you enter there are a few tables that you can sit and eat your food. Inside, it's pretty small so I can imagine if it gets busy the line can go out the door. Although, the line moved fast and they seemed to be very efficient. You can look at the menu board while you're waiting so you can decide what you want. They have all the poke choices on there and sometimes have specials posted on the glass where you order. I got the Hawaiian style and miso tako. So glad I finally got to try Ono Seafood! I got the salmon and ahi poke and really enjoyed both. The fish was super fresh and the sauce was flavorful. The rice wasn't the freshest, but honestly the fish quality more than made up for it. Portion sizes are big, and everything comes out super quick. What? I can't believe I haven't reviewed this iconic poke spot. Indeed their fish was amazing - fresh and smooth, and their seasoning for the poke was spot on. Ono Seafood and it was hands down the best poke I had on the island. The fish was insanely fresh like it literally melted in your mouth and had that buttery texture that you can't fake. I got the spicy ahi and my friend got the shoyu ahi, and both were so flavorful and perfectly seasoned. It is a little on the pricier side, but honestly it was 100% worth it I finished every single bite. Honestly overhyped. This is one of the most popular poke spots out in Honolulu and is usually one that friends visiting recommend. However, it is still delicious but it is a bit overpriced for the portion size. We went around 10am on a Saturday and it was not busy, but people started trickling in right after we got our food. The seating is mostly outside, or you can enjoy takeout elsewhere as everything is served in a takeout container. We got the shoyu ahi (tuna) and Hawaiian style tako (squid) combination which was $17+tax. As most of my poke experiences are previously frozen, I could taste the quality difference - the fish is much smoother and melt in your mouth texture. The marination is on point. However, they gave a disproportionate amount of rice to compensate for a less generous amount of poke (comparing it to other people's photos) so we ended up having to toss half a container of rice when we finished the meal. Wanting to try out of the way, made for locals food - away from places that cater to tourists. We arrive in an "older" section of town. Had to look hard, only their sign is visible from the street. It's easy to overshoot the driveway. Parking lot is small, maybe 15 stalls with many signed for other businesses. The store's small, menu posted on the wall. Of all of the places in Honolulu that I was able to scratch off of my list of bookmarks on this trip, the one I was easily the most excited to check out was Ono Seafood. While the likes of Tanioka's and Foodland have been my go-to spots, whether by design or out of convenience, I had heard more than a few folks mention this was where to go to find the best poke on the island. So, with heady praise like that, I definitely couldn't leave without finding out for myself! Based on the many reviews and photos I checked out ahead of time, I knew before we came here that both Ono Seafood and the parking lot they share with their neighbors were small. So, after seeing a parking space open up just as we pulled into the lot, it felt like a sign we were in for a good experience. Even better, as we walked inside, there were only about a half dozen folks ahead of us in line! Which gave us just enough time to pick what to get for our COMBO POKE BOWL. Whether it be their shoyu, miso, spicy, wasabi, or Hawaiian-style poke featuring tuna, salmon, or tako (octopus), everything sounded so good! -- MISO SALMON POKE with Miso, Ginger, and Green & White Onions Admittedly, this didn't look all that appealing, but it excelled where it counts - this tasted so good! The chunks of salmon were so fresh and I liked how the miso, ginger, and onion flavors meshed so well. Yum! -- SHOYU TAKO POKE with Green & White Onions, Kuikui, Chili Pepper, and Sesame Oil I don't usually get tako poke, but we opted for something different and it turned out pretty well. The pieces of tako were fresh with a nice chew to them and I liked the overall seasoning and flavor. I liked the bit of heat from the chili pepper, but I wish this had more shoyu. Along with how good both types of poke were, the other thing that we really liked was how the white rice wasn't mushy or overcooked. Also, I love how fast the service is here. Granted, the total amount of time it takes is largely dictated by how many customers are in line, but from the time we ordered to when we paid and left, it felt like it only took about five minutes to prepare our bowl (in total, we were only here for about 15-20 minutes). Since I was only able to try a couple of their poke offerings, neither of which are types that I usually get, I can't really say if the poke here actually is the best on the island. However, I have no doubt that Ono Seafood is up there. Based on just what we had, the food is good, the seafood is fresh, and the workers are all super friendly. The closest thing to a knock about them is how their small parking can make it a bit of a challenge to drop in. Even then, though, I'd more than happy to test my luck again to try more of the poke from here! FOUR AND A HALF STARS rounded up for now. read more

A really delicious mom and pop poke spot! We ordered a poke bowl with half fresh shoyu salmon and the Hawaiian style ahi and OMG. The fish quality was insane, super fresh and melt in the mouth. The sauces complemented each of the fish so well and the seaweed in the Hawaiian style ahi gave some much needed texture and umami. Honestly one of the best pokes I've had and it was affordable as well. Unfortunately they only have two small benches in the front of their store, so we took our bowl to-go. This is definitely my favorite poke on the island! I'm a spicy ahi girl & this is review strictly on the spicy ahi.
