    Kanpachi Crudo $22.00
    Ariana K.

Finally got a chance to try SERA! The restaurant has a beautiful modern bar, and the service was excellent, everyone was friendly and attentive. We ordered the Kona Kanpachi Crudo ($22), Mushroom-Onion Pizza ($23), Braised Short Rib ($50), and a couple of cocktails ($14-$22). The crudo was fresh and flavorful, and we enjoyed the cocktails. The pizza was decent, but the crust could have been cooked a little more. Unfortunately, the short rib was the biggest disappointment. For $50, the portion was surprisingly small and wasn't very filling. Overall, great service and atmosphere, but the food was a little hit or miss for the price. I'd come back to try some of the other dishes.

Looking for a great place for a business lunch, a birthday lunch, or just having lunch with friends -- Sera is the perfect choice.  But where is Sera??  I have to be honest, when my friend told me they wanted to have lunch at "Sera", I looked it up and couldn't find it on Google Maps (see Google Map picture).   Other yelp reviews mentioned it being in a hotel named Renaissance on Kapiolani....but I don't recall seeing a hotel on Kapiolani and Google Maps isn't showing me a hotel on Kapiolani too(???).   Come to find out, there IS a hotel -- it's a relatively new hotel.   The picture they show on Google Maps is from 2019, before the hotel was built.   Thank you fellow Yelpers for helping with the location!    Parking - For self parking, enter from Makaloa.   As soon as you drive in, you need to make a sharp turn to go up the ramp to park.    If you want to valet park, you'll need to enter from Kapiolani Blvd.   Both self parking and valet parking are validated.   The important thing is remembering to get  your ticket validated (additional ticket for self parking, stamp for valet).    TIP - For self parking, you will have 2 tickets, you'll need to put your parking ticket into the machine first, then put the validation ticket in.  The restaurant is very open, quite large, and very inviting with seating setup in the front and the back of the restaurant.  They have a really nice bar area - perfect place to sit, have a drink, and relax.  We were lucky to get a seat across from the bar,  by the window fronting Kapiolani Blvd.  Now for the lunch - They have a "Power Lunch" that comes with either salad or soup of the day, your pick of entree from provided list, and a beverage (soft drink or ice tea) all for $30.  What a deal!  Amongst the 3 of us, we tried both the green salad and the soup (Smoked Salmon Chowder).   I liked the Smoked Salmon Chowder -- it was delicious!  For entrees we had the Campanelle Shrimp Scampi and the Campanelle Mushroom-Broccolini pasta dishes.   The Shrimp Scampi was okay.  The pasta was al dente but I didn't think the dish had much taste.  I still enjoyed it.   My friends had the Mushroom-Broccolini and they thought it was very good.    Serving size was perfect.   If you're looking for a nice, affordable place to go for lunch, I'd recommend Sera for sure!

Delia was very pleasant and sweet! Just wanted a light dinner so we ordered a salad ...hummus...-and fries - the Salad with butter lettuce - light dressing and bacon bits was tasty- the hummus was beautifully presented as well as delicious - the pita bread was fluffy and tasty and was warm- i rememember coming here for it and it was served piping hot - which is what I love - but oh well- the water served was fine- I am picky when it comes to water - I am not a fan of tap water that reeks of chlorine- luckily the water was fine here - truffle fries were standard fare- no wait- lots of seating avail- valet or self park-

Completely forgot to mention, I wanted to shout out a special thank you to Chef Jeremy and Deon for their recommendation to dine. As always Chef Jeremy blends local cuisine so well, and with Deon's personal recommendations for food and drinks. Superb. We hope to see them again soon!

Happy hour and dinner - tasty healthy and beautiful presentation. Good value if you use hotel credits that are included Breakfast - average. Better at Harry's down the street for 9 vs 35 bucks. On par with your standard marriot / Hilton

I've always pass by SERA on our walks to Ala Moana and finally got a chance to check it out during our weekend staycation at the Renaissance Hotel. Wow, such a beautiful, modern restaurant, the entrance and check in with hostess is on Kapiolani side, we entered via hotel side since we came from the lobby. The staff, hostess, wait service and buffet staff were all so friendly! We were going to do the continental breakfast but after see what was available, we changed our minds and opt for breakfast buffet. I like the options of the buffet, not too much and not too little, just right. I don't like over-eating and so hard for me to resist, hehe. I loved the Japanese section of the buffet, make your own miso soup with all the toppings, nicely grilled salmon and wow, Koshikari rice was available. Breakfast meats, eggs, mini pancakes, fruits, pastries for rest. We enjoyed our breakfast, I've never Japanese breakfast of miso soup and salmon for breakfast ever. The other half mentioned you don't like to eat lunch type of food for breakfast. haha. Need to start for when we our plans to travel to Japan, hehe. For lunch, ( no photos) we got the grilled fish sandwich with fries and that was very tasty, enjoyed in our room. Perfect-Packaged nicely with napkins, utensils, ketchup and even tiny Tabasco bottle of sauce, without even asking. Next time I want to try the power lunch $30. salad, entree & drink which is available til 2:30 pm daily. Not good for take out. All in all we had a great dining experience, enjoyed breakfast buffet and lunch in our room. Great location, wonderful service and staff. Recommend, Check out SERA!

Great breakfast spot in the Ala Moana area! Sera is located inside the Renaissance Honolulu Hotel & Spa, but it's open to the public too I only got to experience their breakfast, but I ended up coming back almost every day during my stay, which says a lot. They offer a $36 buffet with a wide variety of options: eggs, breakfast meats, smoked salmon, pancakes, juices, coffee, a selection of breads, and even rice and miso soup with toppings. Everything I tried was fresh and delicious. I also ordered from the a la carte menu a couple of times, the omelette was really good, but my favorite was the avocado toast. It's served on a croissant with two poached eggs, arugula, and parmesan cheese... so good and definitely something I kept craving. Their lattes are great as well, a perfect way to start the day. Special shoutout to Jared, who took care of me every morning, and to the front desk staff as well. Everyone was genuinely kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better.

We went on a Saturday night for dinner. Located inside Renaissance hotel next to Paris Baguette. They validate parking for free for 3 hours. Nice restaurant with a bar. The atmosphere felt calm, with dim lights. There were a couple of cons with our experience but other than that, the food is pretty good. We had the hummus & pita bread, calamari, and mushroom pasta. The food tasted great. There is no happy hour on weekends. But would want to try the HH experience on weekdays.

This was my first time dining at Sera and was genuinely impressed with the quality of the dishes. Our party of nine shared several appetizers and the most memorable dishes for me were the ahi tartar, crispy pork belly, and crispy calamari fritto misto. There were also a lot of compliments on the hummus and crudite. For dinner, I ordered the mary's duck breast and was blown away by how crispy the skin was. The interior was tender, juicy, and there was no gamey flavor at all. It did not come with a side dish so I did order potato puree to accompany it. My other family members had ordered the pasta and steak entrees and everyone seemed very content with their dishes. For dessert, we shared the clafoutis and the servers were nice enough to bring a dessert for our birthday celebrant. The clafoutis was unique and memorable from the range of flavors that you experience with every bite. I am a huge fan of citrus so I loved the lemon confit. Our bill totaled to about $850 so this definitely a place that you would go for a splurge. As with any fine dining establishment, I didn't expect massive portion sizes but was very impressed. The only thing to note is that the parking lot is complicated to exit and enter. To get to the restaurant, we had to walk down a stairwell to get to the lobby where the restaurant was located. To get back to your car, you have to take an elevator up to one of the parking floors and exit through out of the doors to the garage. This is something to keep in mind if you're unable to get down via stairs. I hope there is a more efficient way to accommodate those with disabilities.

Came in for lunch and tried the koji marinated steak and the wagyu loco moco lunch specials -- both were SO worth it. The koji steak was incredibly tender with that perfect umami depth. You can really taste the marinade -- savory, slightly sweet, and super flavorful without being overpowering. Cooked perfectly and juicy all the way through. The wagyu loco moco was next level comfort food. The patty was rich and buttery (as wagyu should be), the gravy was silky and well-seasoned, and the egg tied everything together. Every bite was indulgent but balanced. Both lunch specials came with a fresh salad and a beverage, which made it feel like such a good value. Portion sizes were generous, and I left very satisfied but not overly stuffed. If you're looking for a solid lunch spot with elevated local flavors, this is it. Definitely coming back.

This is a very pretty restaurant. The decor is beautiful. We made reservations to come at happy hour. The menu isn't the largest but you can order from the regular menu as well. We got the mini tasting trio of spreads which was tasty. The zucchini flatbread was also good. The French fries were tasty as well. The food was good but I would try some other things if I came back again. Our server was very nice.

In a word: fabulous! I read about Sera's happy hour (3-6, M-F) in Crave and immediately asked my friend if she wanted to meet up. We chose Wednesday because that's the day they have live music. Located in the Renaissance Hotel & Spa, Sera is a beautiful, modern Mediterranean restaurant. It used to be Mara, but it recently changed. It seems the menu is quite similar. Valet parking is free with validation which is a nice perk! We sat at the bar and ordered 2 glasses of sparkling Rose which were perfect. We also shared the burrat and pomegranate dip, the tzatiki dip, fresh pita, the lamb shepherds pie and the roasted eggplant. All were excellent. The eggplant was so good, we ordered it twice! Service was spot on: attentive but not hovering. Live music was such a nice addition. And in general, the restaurant is just beautiful to look at.

Several months ago, when my eldest brother-in-law planned a visit with several other relatives from Los Angeles to celebrate a milestone birthday and Thanksgiving Day in Hawai'i, he left his taste buds in my hands. I knew that he, as most of our relatives, gravitates toward Italian and Mediterranean cuisines for dinner, so this year I chose Sera since we had an excellent lunch there. I made the reservation through my handy OpenTable dining reservation app for seven people a month in advance. After providing directions to the restaurant and the parking garage, we shared our car with one relative, and the other four arrived in their rental car. This was the first time we had ever parked at the Renaissance Kapi'olani hotel/residential condominium, and we were shocked by the sharp turn up to a very steep incline into their garage. Still, the parking stalls were wide, and there were ample open spaces. After exiting the parking garage elevator, we noticed the RESTAURANT VALIDATION instructions on the parking validation kiosk, which instructed us to hold onto our parking tickets during dine-in, have the restaurant issue validation, and insert the validated tickets at the exit gate when leaving. Our table started with the Tasting Trio ($28, hummus, tzatziki, and burrata) and a Charcuterie Board ($38) to nosh on while sipping our wine, which my brother-in-law brought. Although we've dined at Sera for lunch, this was our first dinner experience. Our impressions of preparation, presentation, food quality, and value of the appetizers, entrées, side dishes, and desserts were phenomenal. The sommelier and server (Shalei) were attentive, friendly, and professional. Both my brother-in-law and I ordered the Lamb Tagine $55, which was authentically served in a tagine pot. The Morrocan braised and roasted lamb was tender, cooked to perfection, flavorful and not gamey-tasting. It's savory, slightly sweet and earthy sauce featured cumin, cinnamon (?), paprika, ginger (?), carrots, potatoes, marinated olives, and possibly honey or fruit. Atop the earthy stew was a sprinkling of the fragrant Egyptian, condiment, macadamia dukkah (macadamias, lemon zest, sesame seeds, and coriander). The stew was served with a bowl of turmeric rice. The stew was warming, comforting, and filling. My husband ordered the grilled Kona Kanpachi $45 which came with a zucchini and fennel salad, salsa verde, preserved lemon vinaigrette. The soft yet firm, succulent Kanpachi flakes were buttery-tasting. Its "simple" preparation showcased the fish steak. Other outstanding dishes were the Chicken Cacciatore $38 which had a beautifully balanced sauce of savoriness, acidity, earthiness, robustness. Also, the Grilled Spanish Octopus $33, Spaghetti Bolognese $32, and Braised Short Rib $50 all deserve mention as my relatives raved about them. We celebrated the "Birthday Boys" with frozen Greek yogurt as it was the least food coma causing dessert. I chose the sour cherries topping while others selected baklava crumbles or the olive oil and sea salt. Our party enjoyed the food flavors and presentation, quality, service, and ambiance which pushed my review rating to 5-stars.

A must try: Spreads Tasting Trio: hummus, tzatziki, burrata

To my surprise, on a Sunday evening after having dinner nearby at Maze, my wife and I walked over to Bar Leather Apron and we were able to get seated right away! In fact, around 7:30 p.m. when we stopped by, there was actually a ton of seating available in the bar. Who would've guessed. If you're in the same boat as me and are unable to find a reservation for your upcoming visit, I would encourage you to stop by and try a walk-in. The first page of the menu lists a wide variety of whiskey based cocktails. Most -- if not all, of the cocktails are pre-fixed with BLA (Bar Leather Apron), and represent a collaboration with the named distillery. If you're fan of whiskey, you'll definitely have a difficult time picking only one. I ultimately ordered their "Take Warning" -- 2021 BLA Knob Creek BLA Single Barrel, Cynar, Carpano Antica, Mezcal, Bergamot Salt. Drinks here are not cheap -- averaging $20 to $25 per drink. Although my drink was very spirit forward, it still felt very well balanced. I appreciated the hint of smokiness from the mezcal that rounded out the end of a sip. Service here quick and friendly. When we received the check, a cute small chocolate snack was brought over as well, borrowed from the menu at Maze. Overall, I can see why Bar Leather Apron has earned so many accolades in its field. Definitely worth a stop by if you enjoy the art of mixology.

That's a shame because it has the potential to be very good. When you start with a cocktail concept that is deliberately kept low key with no signage, and a drink menu that rotates and evolves, you have a pretty good floor to start. Having a cozy place to settle in and being able to enjoy food from Chris Kajioka should give 430 Pkwy a high ceiling. If you like an espresso martini try something a little different. Their Espressing My Love batches espresso with Averna, black walnut bitters, and a unique monkeypod syrup. Unfortunately, there is no espresso machine so you cannot get fresh drawn espresso to make a Carajillo the way Cafe Miro use to. The ahi brioche is a carry over from all Chris Kajioka places. The grilled cheese is excellent. Hotdogs are kicked up - it used to be a black truffled miso chicken sausage but the current one is a little different. The problem is the food preparation totally undermines the whole place. Without a separate kitchen you have frying being done just a few feet away from where cocktails are made. If you sit on the right side of the bar you will quickly understand why this doesn't work. I would come here more frequently if i didn't have to smell like cooking oil afterwards. Fix that problem and this place would rock.

The ambiance inside is a unique blend of Japanese and urban with musical tracks from artists like Nujabes to match. Fern and Elsa served us and were friendly and so welcoming, answering questions and the menu and making great cocktail recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed our drinks (several of which are named after famous anime characters) which were a unique blend of Japanese inspired botanicals, and a couple of side dishes. The ube sake shot was dangerously delicious and the mushroom boa were savory and tasty. This was the most unique place we vision our trip and we hope to visit again on our next Hawaiian vacation. If you are in the Ala Moana area, definitely stop by!

Apparently you're normally supposed to put a coin in to open the secret door, but it's broken right now, so the whole vending machine just swings right open. Slightly less secret, but still very cool. Inside is where this place really shines. Moody lighting, a giant orange tree in the middle of the room, Japanese hip hop playing in the background (I want to steal this entire playlist), and extremely cool and friendly servers and bartenders. I've been to a few other attempted "speakeasies" in Honolulu, but most are basically just dark bars with a fun door or code word. Wild Orange actually has the VIBES to make the whole concept work. Definitely worth coming just to hang out and chill. They have a full bar and an extensive specialty cocktail menu. Tried the Purple Dragon, made with ube liqueur and coconut cream. Very sweet--a little TOO sweet for my taste--but tasty and pretty. Probably should have listened to the menu and kept it as a shot, but I wanted something I could sip on for a while and chill. The Umeshu Highball was also very pretty and tasty. My friend who works as a sake distributor was impressed with their selection of good sake, so of course we had to order a bottle. Our server brought it out in an ice bucket, kept it off to the side, and completely served it for us throughout. Very classy. The food menu is fun and creative, but unfortunately not really for me because it's entirely vegan. Most times, but ESPECIALLY when I'm drinking, I want MEAT. Tried the Wild Musubi, a vegan Spam musubi. I'm not actually sure what the "meat" was. Possibly fried tofu? Whatever it was, it was definitely a passable alternative, but would have been 100x better if it were just plain old Spam. It also falls victim to what I find is a common problem with vegan attempts at Japanese food: anything teriyaki ends up being way too treacly sweet without actual meat or seafood to ground it in reality. Also tried the Char Siu Tofu Bao, fried tofu in a red Chinese-style char siu sauce on fluffy white buns. Again, fun and certainly not bad, but these would be 1000x better with actual pork. If Wild Orange had this exact same creative food menu but carnivore edition, this place would probably be 7/5 stars for me. That being said, I know being vegan will actually be a huge draw for some people, and I appreciate that the food is creative rather than just the usual sad vegan afterthoughts. Parking is pretty easy by Honolulu standards. It's inside Hawaiian Brian's, so there's a large shared parking lot. That being said, you might still have trouble finding a spot during peak gym hours since you're competing with all the 24 Hour Fitness customers. All in all, I LOVE this place. Definitely a fun stop--first, middle, only, or nightcap--on a chill night out. Will absolutely be adding Wild Orange into the rotation of places to bring out-of-town guests when I want to impress them with something cool and different. The vegan menu probably means it'll be a couple-times-a-year place for me rather than a regular haunt. But for drinks, service, atmosphere, and pure VIBES? 20/10.

I was just skipping around town exploring wanting to check-in to as many places as I could like the responsible Yelp elite that I am and then I find this amazing hole on the wall speakeasy. The lovely gentleman in the front welcomed us in to take a look around and I asked him if I could take photos for yelp and he told me that if I was going to write a review, I had to join them. So of course, I took the invite and decided to stay for a little while. We sat at a nice area. A perfect little place. I just want to take a snapshot and keep it in my memory so I can emulate it and turn it into my home study. I could stay here forever. The vibes were on point. The server recommended drinks that he thought we would like, and we loved both of them. I don't remember what the drinks were called, but mine had a blueberry taste to it, and my friend had a mock tail, but some sort of Yuzu to it. We also shared a $15 charcuterie graze. 10 out of 10 would recommend being curious and opening doors to finding out that there's a speakeasy randomly in an area you never thought would be there. What an amazing experience.

What surprised me most was how good the food was for the price. Usually spots with this kind of atmosphere rely on the drinks to carry the experience, but every dish actually delivered. The chicken karaage was crispy and packed with flavor, the beef takoyaki disappeared almost instantly, and the taro chips with mascarpone were such a unique combination. Between the cocktails, food, service, and atmosphere, everything just worked.
