Not sure how they create a dish that its just a peace of fish or meat on plate . I got short rib small cube of meat on plate with some greens on side . Meat I think was boiled cause had no sauce or flavor just meat. $50 for a small cube of meat . You will spend around $70 -80 for a single dish very pricy kinda not worth it. Very expensive but very good!! Didn't take much pictures but for starters would highly recommend the burrata beet dip, octopus and eggplant. The Parmesan potatoes were crispy but a little too crispy and cooked. The pesto rigatoni with tomato sauce was very good and you can add chicken or steak. The lamb tagine tasted like beef stew. The linguine pasta was very good and you can tell their pasta is made in house. The service was very nice and attentive. We made reservations ahead of time for a party of 8 so we had our own area by the kitchen which was very nice. The restaurant was very modern and aesthetic. If you go definitely get the octopus, burrata dip with pita and the pesto rigatoni. read more

I went for a special wine tasting. It was beautifully set up for us to sample wines. The had a small menu offering created just for the event. I ordered the octopus. It was sliced in a creative way and so tender. I was impressed. A friend had the rigatoni which I got to sample and it was tasty. Another friend got the lamb with beans. She said it was tasty. The staff were attentive. I like the atmosphere. It's modern and conducive for conversation and sharing food. read more

Lovely space it can get loud especially near the kitchen. The trio appetizer of babaganoush, hummus and beet with Naan is always great. I'm glad they kept that in the menu from Mara. As well as the grill octopus. That Wu's so delicious!! We offered the fried calamari and shrimp, also delicious. That was enough to get us really full. Service was great was there celebrating my friends birthday and they were so nice and had an ice cream dessert and a candle for her to blow out. So sweet! We had their version of kunfe. That wasn't my favorite. I wouldn't order again it was dry. Not what I'm used to having. Everything by else was great and we enjoyed the evening. read more

It's basically still Mara. Decor is the same. Their tasting dip trio with pita just as delicious. More burgers and sandwiches. The menu is a bit more basic so that might be more approachable for some. Wish they would shut down the Mara website as it's confusing bc you can make reservations on both the Mara and Sera sites. Still online res is convenient. Service was friendly. Check-in desk is only from the hotel side, not from the kapiolani entrance anymore. They seemed to have opened up free validated parking again? They had it in the beginning with Mara, then started charging for it, and now that it's Sera seems to be free again. Still takes a while so I chose to self park which is pretty easy - just go up the ramp and pull a ticket. The restaurant stalls are on that floor but now some are reserved for the residence sales offices. Not sure if they'll tow seems unlikely but they are marked specifically. Prolly will still keep in the rotation since easy to make reservations, pretty inside, free parking, and the dip trio! read more

My other half took me there for Valentines. They had changed the menu due to the occasion so the things we have seen before (in the many) were not available. I asked the waiter which was the dish with the whole fish and he said it was on the other menu but later I saw someone with that dish. We Settled for: - the calamari was over cooked and crispy . - The rib eye was rare and not a corner of "medium rare" as we ordered -the pasta sauce tasted like out of a can, the ground beef also overcooked and the pasta and very al dente. - we got a fish that was good . The waiter took a while to get back to us. Overall, not a good experience. We won't go back to check the full menu. read more

Visited Sera this past weekend. It was the first time since the changeover from Mara. The star for me at Mara was always the pita with the 3 dips. I was craving that so off we went to Sera. The dips remain the same and are very delicious. Unfortunately the pita was not as good. There's a chance it's the same recipe but the cooking time is off or perhaps the pita is cooked and sits around. The first pita that came to us tasted old like it had been sitting a bit. It was hard to pull apart. I remembered at Mara, we went twice when it was soft and more pillowing (though we did have it once when it was tough). We asked for a refreshed bread and it did come back hot but it's almost as if they took an already cooked one and just reheated it. Because we finished our pita but still had dips left, they brought us one more piece and that final piece was softer than the first two leading me to believe that the first two were sitting around a bit. I know at Mara we sat near the kitchen once and they were churning out the pita really quickly - but the restaurant was full. During this visit, the restaurant wasn't full so unsure if they are still making a lot and letting them sit. We ordered the caesar salad and when it came, we loved the salad but agreed we wouldn't call it a caesar salad. It seemed more like a Greek salad. Upon looking at the menu right now, it looks indeed like we were served a Greek salad instead of caesar. Maybe that was a nice mistake. We split the linguine frutti di mare which was really tasty and had a nice assortment of seafood. We finished dinner with their Greek frozen yogurt topped with sour cherries and it was fantastic! Overall the food is still really good here. Parking is available in the building and you can get it validated. read more

If you wanna try Mediterranean food with elegant, chill atmosphere, this place is a go to. I dined in with a couple friends to check this new place out, and we ordered Hummus and Charcuterie platter to share. For the main, I got Linguini Frutti Di Mare that came with lobster, shrimp, and mussels. I absolutely loved it. Haven't had such good pasta in a while and I could tell the linguine was house-made with really nice chewy texture and the sauce complemented well with the seafood. Great place to host bday parties or anniversary celebrations. The only thing I found slightly unsatisfying was the service from the hostess. She didn't seem very happy that we were taking our time to order food and there were moments that I felt like she was trying to rush us. But overall, it wasn't bad enough to make me think that the place isn't worth going, just something they can definitely improve on. Overall, it was a great place to dine in. read more

My wife and i are titanium Marriott members. We get free breakfast at Marriott hotels. But sadly free breakfast at the Honolulu renaissance just means fruit and a pastry. Careful, they won't tell you this, and they'll let you eat the buffet which is not included in the continental breakfast and then charge you an arm and leg for the "buffet". Pretty terrible service for them to tell us we have free breakfast, and then they charge you like $40 for breakfast after. We won't be staying at this hotel again and we won't be eating at sera again. read more

We came in for a birthday lunch... such a beautiful location. We were greeted and sat in the booth nearest to the bar. Bartender was also our server, she was so nice and her service was awesome- we were also mesmerized by her blue eyes. I had my 6 year old with us and they do have chicken & fries for kids. A beautiful ambiance with clean lines and attention to detail in the heart of downtown. It was a refreshing take on decor and I very much appreciated the detail. The menu is simple, streamlining ordering and allowing them to focus on details. Food was delicious and surprising with some flavor profiles really being innovative. Plating of food was on point allowing us to eat with our eyes before diving in and atmosphere was nice but not stuffy. Service was ok. Not a wow but not a complete loss. We came in with kids and a t was obvious that the server didn't think our table was worth a bother but we weren't neglected completely either. Would I go back? Maybe. "Missed Opportunity" We frequented (formerly known) Mara often. I was excited to see that Sera was taking on the same "taste" and feel as Mara. I decided to take my family here to celebrate Father's Day (celebrating my husband and father) but left sorely disappointed by our experience. We ordered our favorites - Tasting trio and greek salad, still great with same/similar flavors. Their homemade pita is still my favorite! Service took a bit long, but I can extend some understanding with Sera being new and it was father's day (although only 40 % of restaurant was occupied). I got my grilled fish sandwich - flavor okay, maybe fish was a bit overcooked. However, 20-30 mins had passed since i got my main dish and my dad and husband who ordered the prime rib panini didn't get their plates yet. I inquired with our waiter, who said he would check on it immediately. Sandwiches came out right after I inquired. BUT the meat of the sandwich was COLD This is where it went downhill... We informed the wait staff who were apologetic and said that they would get a manager to speak with us. Waited 10 mins for the Manager - When Rocky approached our table, his demeanor and response was less than ideal. He seemed a bit annoyed that we were bringing him feedback on the food. His response felt dismissive and he lacked the basic knowledge/techniques of a manager (which is listening and understanding). He provided no solution and instead just said, I took it off your tab and walked away Yes, although we were thankful that we didn't have to pay for the incorrectly made food - we still came to Sera to eat lunch and (hopefully) enjoy the same service and experience that we once loved at Mara. BIG SHOUT OUT to our waiter (HARRY) who shared deep empathy and understanding (which = great service), he acknowledged our experience was less than ideal and asked if there was anything he could get us. If it wasn't for Harry this whole experience would have been a disaster. I'm not sure what happened today to be honest. I think the culture does start with management and if this is how Rocky treats people - I'd have to say they are on to a rough start. I think we will give Sera a little break and wait for things to settle in before we go again. read more

The negatives started as soon as I drove up. I had read there was valet service, but when I pulled up, no one was around. After more than 5 minutes, two valets drove up and dropped cars, then quickly ran into a side room never to emerge. I waited another few minutes and still no valet people. I self parked in the tiny and confusingly labeled parking and found my way to the restaurant. There weren't signs to tell me where the elevators were. I get in and the restaurant is very nice and clean. I am seated and order a vanilla latte. They don't have flavored syrups. Fine, soda it is. My friend ordered a hot latte and the waitress never brought a spoon so we ended up using a straw to mix in sugar. I looked over the breakfast buffet which was pretty sparse and decided to order off the menu. The menu was small, I would have expected more from a "breakfast buffet". The food was decent if not on the small side. Nothing to write home about. The waitress seemed clueless about what the job entailed. We got the check and I was given a ticket so I could get free parking. I got down to the ticket machine and it wouldn't accept my ticket. I had to use the call button and speak with someone as the line behind me grew. Overall, with a combination of issues, not worth the stress, not worth a return visit. read more

Total disorganization, rude bartenders and the waitress always forgets about their own work. Bartender declined to serve just a paper napkin for a kid and said talk to your waiter. It was not my first visit to Sera, formerly Mara. I used to love this place for its atmosphere, fresh and authentic food, and friendly service -- but sadly, all of that seems to be gone. The bread, once one of their staples, was stale. The fish was oversalted (was it not fresh enough?), and everything tasted as if it had been reheated from leftovers rather than freshly prepared. Our waitress walked by several times asking how we were doing, but when I asked for water, she forgot and went to chat with someone at the bar instead. She didn't apologize and later forgot to bring back my card. There were only two tables occupied at the time, so it wasn't even busy. When the server asked if everything was ok, I told her how dry the fish was and all she said was that she'll let the kitchen know.
