Fresh Located in a typical warehouse fashion is this little office. I don't want to say "shop" because you don't see the product. It's all behind industrial refrigerators. And there's a bell if no one is at the front. Prices are reasonable, actually maybe a tad cheaper than the local supermarkets. I like how the lady at the front asked if I had a cooler. Love this place so much! They are located right by the airport and it was easy to find parking right out front. We called ahead to make sure they had what we were looking for. We ordered the frozen 20lb box of snow crab legs and Shigoku oysters. The crab legs were pretty thick and the oysters were alive lol super fresh. Their customer service was the best because we originally ordered fat bastard oysters too, but they called saying the shipment was coming in at a later time than expected. Shigoku oysters were delicious! The ladies in front recommended the Shigoku for raw and the Pacific for grilling. Went with Shigoku since I don't like cooked oysters. By the time I realized I should take a picture, I only had 11 oysters left lol! Used my deviled egg plate to hold the oysters, looks so off with 11! I also bought a dozen soft shell crabs. On a whim, decided on a Friday that we needed to get some oysters. So bf and I made the drive over to grab some, and were lucky enough to grab probably the last couple dozen. We got some of the smaller, specialty oysters, and the larger ones. The staff was super friendly and informed us about the different type of oysters they had on hand, and warned us that the bigger ones would be better for cooking. We did decide to shuck them all, and found the oysters to be fresh, plump, and really good value. Yes, the bigger oysters were hard to shuck because of their brittle shell, but they were still good on the half shell - they just required some very careful shucking. Thank goodness I set out on cleaning my inbox recently for the new year. I came across an old Yelp newsletter that featured best spots to get fresh oysters on the island, and Pacific Seafood Distribution was featured. I scoped them out, and they had decent prices... a little steep compared to the mainland, but hey it's Hawai'i. What I really like was that (among other things), they sell LIVE DUNGENESS CRAB! Yes, LIVE... not like the frozen ones at Costco. They are located in the industrial part of the island... near the airport. Parking was easy and plentiful in the lot. I went up to the counter and ordered. The market prices are listed on the white board behind the counter. I just told them how many I wanted and the approximate pounds I wanted. I couldn't see where they got the crabs, but the woman weighed them in front of me and then packed them... with an ice pack (yay!). When I brought them home, the crabs were still moving a bit... so they were indeed LIVE. I'm a little wary about places where I can't see the conditions of where they pulled the food from (which is the deduction in star) aside from price. But I ate it last night, and so far... no upset stomach - so that's a good thing. Haha If you need a place to grab some fresh seafood for a meal or special occasion - this is definitely the spot! We were really unhappy with the prices and quality of seafood in our local wholesale membership shopper warehouses. A friend had suggested we try this place. "Even though its by the airport, dont let that deter you. This place is awesome". Well he was right. They have such a nice seasonal selection of seafood and truly reasonable prices. I was a little worried about the quality but the staff can speak to where the seafood came from and more than happy to show you to make sure you are comfortable. They spent a lot of time answering our questions and making suggestions...and just the nicest people. they really wanted our birthday seafood feast to be as good as possible. We bought ginormous shrimp and the oysters were so fresh. The Dungeness crab were live and kicking and in great condition. They were delicious. I wanted to prepare a nice birthday dinner for my husband. What better meal than lobster! So I immediately went to yelp and searched where I could get fresh lobster. This place popped up. I went in the morning and there were a couple of parking spots in front of the establishment. I walked in with my cooler bag thinking it was an actual market where you pick out your lobster, but it's not. You walk in and there's a counter with 2 ladies waiting to help you. You will notice how clean the place is, and it doesn't smell fishy at all! Stainless countertops, clean floors, and the prices clearly written on a white board on the wall. I looked at their price list and saw they had everything you could possibly need! And good prices too. I picked a 3 lb lobster, and a box of mussels. I would get some oysters too, but I feel like it's already a bit too much. But I will definitely go back and try other seafood that they have. It was my first time to see a lobster up close, and I think they sensed that. The 2 ladies explained to me how to kill it humanely, and the proper way of cooking it as well. They put Mr. Lobster nicely in a small box for me to transport home, and i wasn't gonna cook him til dinner so they told me to just put the box in the fridge until im ready to cook it. So that's what I did, and when i opened the box, he was still alive. The mussels are in a box, frozen, half shell which is good for me so I won't have to shuck them. I highly recommend this place. Even though they are minutes away downtown Honolulu, Kaka'ako and Waikiki, they are a stone's throw from the airport (1 block). When you get these live items, they pack them in boxes with a frozen gel pack (@no extra cost) to keep the food live and fresh. They also sell live and frozen seafood items like shellfish, mussels, oysters, king crab legs. Best bet is to call ahead and find out what's in stock for that day. Ever since the demise of Paradise Seafood on Keeamoku by Ala Moana Mall, there hasn't been a local place to get live lobster and dungeness crabs, unless you want to pay $30+/lb at restaurants like Jade Dynasty or Pagoda Floating Restaurants.
