    Fish so fresh its still jumping into my mouth. Their hamachi is smoother than my girl after she's freshly shaved. Kimchi tako packing a punch as heavy as manny pacquio. Enough said just get it and support this long time fish spot. Bulk approved

    Located in Chinatown or Honolulu, 88 fresh fish market always has good ahi, salmon and hamachi. Today, I brought 3/4 lbs of Chu Toro, the fish is fresh, but I think this Chu toro is not as fatty as I thought. With that beginning said, I guess if I buy a piece of ahi filet, not the entire piece will be fatty. I just cut it at home to enjoy. China town has some street parkings and a few municipal parkings. They also sell poke, definitely a place to check it out .

    Payment: Cash or Card ok You come here for sashimi cuts. Got here at 11am, they only had about 1lb left of the Japanese Blue Fin Toro. Market price was $89.99/lb, price could change. And You best believe I ordered it! It was one of the reasons why I went there. Took it on the plane with me and it was delicious! Also, got 1lb of the regular Toro, which was good as well.

    Ordered a sashimi platter for pickup Christmas day 2024: 1 lb Japan Bluefin Otoro 1 lb King Salmon 1 lb Hamachi 1 lb Chu toro $50 deposit via Venmo. I was dropped off, ran in to pay the rest and pickup. Friendly and easy to order from. Forgot to take a picture without the lid. Fish was delicious

    Ahi grades are the best ranging all the way to otoro fresh off the block fish!

    SPOILED in a great way!! Once I had their poke I can not go back to grocery or other poke places! I have tried their Kim chee taco, ahi limu, and hamachi and they were all incredible delicious! It is slightly more expensive but when you want absolutely mouth watering poke, it's a must!! I went back to the grocery poke and another poke spot but the whole time I've been thinking about 88 fish market's poke! Make sure to call in orders beforehand since they make poke all day by hand, while also making sashimi trays and taking walk up orders. By the way their sashimi blocks are the best! They have fresh and ranges of ahi to fatty otoro. They also have hamachi and they're all very melt in your mouth perfect texture! Parking is also more difficult due to it being in Oahu marketplace but it's all still worth it!

    Unforgettable experience.... in a number of ways... The fish was amazing. Fresh and very fatty. Prices were not too ridiculous either for the quality. They also packaged the fish very nicely which included ginger, soy sauce and wasabi (would appreciate if wasabi not already dunked in the soy sauce container.) Very friendly people too. But what made this unforgettable was the roach infestation this place has. I mean yeah coming to Chinatown you kinda know what is up, but seeing a giant American roach crawling frantically across the glass display case in front of you and seeing how it kept wanting to make its way to the counter while the lady was cutting my fish and battling with the roach at the same time by stomping, smashing and scooping with no avail, I am not sure if I can go back after this whole experience. No people. It is NOT OK to do nothing about the marketplace and let roaches infest a food market like this. It's unsanitary. Don't care how good the seafood is, to not sanitize the place periodically or hire pest control for the sake of public health is unacceptable. This marketplace condition is really the worst I've seen and I've gone to different spots in Chinatown a number of times now. I've seen some roaches here and there but while I was waiting for my fish walking around, I saw at least 7 giant dead roaches on the floor, not dead naturally by pesticide poisoning or whatnot but dead by being stomped on because they're still facing down. It matters because that means there's nothing here to stop and kill them other than someone passing by to kill them by foot, most likely by accident. (Do you know how hard it is to hunt down a roach?) I would really hope to love this place. Support small local business in Chinatown. I'd love to do that. But I don't know, all I know is that I am eating something raw which has been sitting in a place infested by roaches, that was not very appetizing to me. I paid $50 for my fish so of course I ate it anyway. But probably never again.

    Ordered fish for new years, 2lbs kings salmon received 1lb 1.7 oz, 1 lb Hamachi received 10oz,, ordered Otoro 1 lb received 7 oz only the toro was the amount I actually ordered 2lbs, called to complain and they said they charged me for what was there before butchering the actual fish, so I paid for skin, bone and waste, they said everyone knows this which is bullshit because when I go anywhere else I pay for and receive fish not waste, I will not be going back here again ever and would not recommend

    Preordered 1lbs chutoro and 1/2 lbs king salmon through their instagram account. They are located in Oahu Market in bustling and gritty Chinatown. The order was already packaged in pink paper and they gave us a bag of ice to keep the fish on. Opened it later at home and was relieved to see our small platter looked like their insta pics. Better yet was that the sashimi was fresh and cuts were good. They even added some ginger and soy. They are very nice, fast response, and even called the day of as a reminder to pick up my order. A value pick for decent quality fish.

    The best food is always hidden in the places you least expect. I honestly wouldn't have gave them a second glance regarding the fish if it wasn't for mutual friends who vouched for their freshness. Even though I live 5 minutes away, Chinatown can be an inconvenience because of the parking situation. If you have someone in the car, you can easily idle your car on the side without any worry. I was by myself when I had to pick it up but because there was a line of cars waiting for pick ups, I didn't feel tooooo scared about getting a ticket. I just put my hazard lights on and quickly ran inside They have a good selection of fish and have some ready made! But if you don't see something you want, you can easily ask them to make it for you. I asked for 1/2 pound of Spicy Ahi and 1/2 pound of Tobiko Salmon. It did take a minute because they make everything from scratch but it was so worth the wait. Their fish is comparable to the popular poke shops on the island; super fresh and buttery and their prices are honestly reasonable! Their fish is also used to make poke bowls next door called Morning Catch if you want a quick meal. I highly recommend everyone to check this place out. They even have an IG explaining how to do platters as well

    Located in Chinatown in Honolulu. It's a small corner booth in a crowded building full of eateries that are mainly authentic Chinese foods. The market offers a variety of fresh fish choices from Mahi to Salmon and everything in between. You can buy whole fish, fillet, sashimi and poke all by the pound. I sampled the yellowtail poke (amazing) which is hard to come by in Oahu. I'll be back for more. The Ahi Poke was just just as good. They were unfortunately sold out of the Otoro which was what I came for. I guess someone had just came and bought the entire thing. The pieces are cut directly from the fish, so your unable to by less than a pound to avoid getting a super thin slice.

And even after we moved, we would still drive out just to come here for the seafood. That's how special it was to us. The reason why he chose Tamashiro over other grocery stores was simple--it was quality and because of my Nanay (grandma). His mom purchased from here and made so many delicious dishes. He knew what to look for, and he trusted this place. For him, it wasn't just about buying food... it was about getting the best for his family. My dad isn't the type to say "I love you." He shows it. One of the biggest ways he showed love was through his cooking. Even after a long day on his feet cooking for others, he would come home and cook for us. That was his way of taking care of us. I loved coming here with him. It was a five-senses overload--the smell of fresh seafood, the sound of people talking story, the colors of fish on display. Back then when you were allowed to sample a grape or poke to make sure it was good before buying. But more than that, it was time with him. I still remember the excitement I felt when I saw the pink building with the huge crab. I thought back then was to look at everything but now I understand that it meant something more..... something special--time with my dad. It's with a sad heart that Tamishiro Market is now closed. It looked the same as it did the first time I went with my grandfather. I picked up a couple pounds of dry aku for my favorite sister and some tee shirts as memorabilia. It was pretty busy and I expect that will continue until They close. Still, the people were nice and very helpful. I'm really going to miss it!

It wasn't till one day Mink was craving Dungeness crab and we couldn't find it anywhere. We looked at Costco (they had but they were already cleaned and all the good stuff was discarded), Richard's Meat Market and a few stalls in Chinatown. Fortunately I remembered this place and we walked there. Sure enough, they had tanks of live Dungeness crab. Customer service was friendly but a little slow. We were the only customers inside when we arrived but couldn't decide on how many to buy. In a blink of an eye, the place was packed and it took awhile to make our purchase. When we were finally helped again, we purchased two live Dungeness crabs. She gave us two huge ones! Cleaning was offered but my dad said it'll taste better to keep them alive till we're about to eat them. We politely declined the cleaning and paid. Bring cash! I was going to pay by credit card but they said cash. They probably don't want to pay processing fees. The crabs were still moving around on the way home and up till the moment we cleaned them. Seeing the crab cleaning in real life vs YouTube is totally different! It was a quick steam and we had our dinner ready. Don't worry, we also picked up take out from Thai Issan to accompany the crab. Mink made some homemade Thai seafood sauce. It was the perfect compliment to the plump and sweet crab meat. Yes, she made something in the kitchen! Thank social media or YouTube! Great discovery in Chinatown and we'll be back the next time we're in the mood for fresh seafood.

My father and…read morepaternal grandmother would shop for groceries on a regular basis in Chinatown as they would check out what's in season and/or what looks good. Many times, they would come home with a whole fresh fish and cook it for dinner. The preferred way of cooking a whole fish is by steaming it and dress it up with julienne green onions and fresh ginger, Chinese parsley with soy sauce and some sesame oil. Last week a group of us celebrated the birthday of 2 February babies at Lagoon Chinese Restaurant near the airport. We have dined there many times and often order their steamed fish fillets where the chefs execute this dish excellently. However, we were celebrating a special occasion, so I wanted to get a whole fresh fish and have the chef prepare it for us. I arrived in Chinatown shortly after 7am and was on the hunt for fresh fish. I was saddened to have witnessed so many empty stalls in Chinatown and found myself coming across just a few places that had fresh fish, one of them being Troy Enterprises (TE). Troy Enterprises started in business around the mid-70's and I do have recollection of my father coming here for whole fish as often I tagged along with him. They are located deep in the C Q Yee Hop Building with neighbors of Lee's Bakery and the New Hong Kong Supermarket. As I grew older and inherited culinary skills by my father and then refined by watching a chef from Hong Kong cook when I helped at my buddy's family restaurant in Chinatown, I learned how to prepare steamed fish. I've cooked whole fish a lot where I prepared it for my family. It's been YEARS since I last purchased a whole fish and TE is still at the same stall location but immediately noticed very few staff working. To be exact, just 2 people, perhaps a husband-and-wife team. Previously, there were easily over 6 staff with a lot of people hovering over the fresh fish checking out to see which one would be best on their dinner table. TE is quite spacious and well organized and clean. I was pleased the area didn't smell fishy when it had a lot of seafood displayed in the area. I was the only customer at that time, so I had free range of checking out their inventory in leisure. I did want a whole fish to be steamed Chinese style, so I was looking for a snapper or UHU (parrot fish). There were just 2 UHU but they weren't appealing to me, so I started to look at their snapper inventory. The male staff showed me a beautiful ONAGA (long tail red snapper) but it was quite large. The dinner was for 9 people, and we usually order an array of dishes and worried that the fish would be too big. I then glanced around and came across a beautiful OPAKAPAKA (pink/crimson snapper) that was slightly smaller than the ONAGA. As a rule of thumb, you check the eyes of the fish to ensure its freshness and after it passed the test, my decision was made. I asked the staff to have it cleaned (gutted and scaled) for me and the female staff rung me up. The OPAKAPAKA was about 2.92 lbs at $18.95/lb and the staff was kind enough to round it down for an even $55. She was kind enough to also include a small bag of ice placed with the fish for me to carry back to my car. I took my prized fish to my part-time job where my colleagues eyed on it and constantly joked with me during my shift. Many kitchen staff commented on how they should prepare it and have it for that day's employee meal. Hahaha.... I brought the fish to me to Lagoon's later that afternoon where I asked the staff to prepare it steamed, Chinese style of green onions, ginger and soy sauce. I ended up ordering 10 dishes that day with the steamed whole fish making it 11 courses. The fish was the las thing to arrive on the table and regardless we didn't have much room left in our stomachs, our table to 9 whacked the OPAKAPAKA with very minimal leftovers. One of our friends surprised us by picking up the tab so I am unaware of what the kitchen fee was to prepare this monster fish. The OPAKAPAKA was indeed fresh and prepared so well that it was worth waking up early and shopping in Chinatown that Saturday morning. Overall, a great reunion of TE where I wouldn't hesitate to come back again. As part of due diligence, it's always great practice to shop around but I'll be sure to stop by TE to see what they have on hand. My OPAKAPAKA may have costed pretty pennies, but the money was well spent. I am already looking forward to coming back to TE to get a whole fish and have Lagoon's prepare it for my family as they love steamed fish, as well as picking up some fresh seabass to make Chinese style sashimi that my father often made for us.

CASH IS KING so make sure you bring your "ke kālā" (money). Recently, when we were invited to a family potluck dinner, our nephew specifically asked me to prepare a Chinese-style steamed whole fish. So, I went out to Troy Enterprise at its opening hour (7:00AM) just so that I could assure myself and family of a fish worthy of the occasion. My husband and I arrived at 7AM sharp and found their door was already open and a crowd had gathered in front of the fresh catches. I paced the displays to see which type and size of fish would be best for steaming. My Chinese family has always relied on kūmū (goatfish), opakapaka (pink snapper) or uku (gray snapper). I didn't see any kūmū but my eyes zeroed in on the opakapaka. As I donned a pair of disposable gloves to select my fish, I "eyeball estimated" a 2 - 3 pound fish. I picked an opakapaka then handed it to one of the workers who weighed it (2.52 pounds) as I told him I wanted the fish cleaned. He told me how much my fish cost, we paid him and he gave me a claim number. The worker took my fish over to the cleaning station and we waited for our fish. While we waited, another fishmonger cleared an area in the display and dumped in a batch of kūmū(goatfish). There were other Chinese shoppers who swooped in for the kūmū . I started to wish that I had waited a few minutes before selecting my fish. But, just then, my claim number was called and I collected my fish. We left happy with our pink snapper and thought to ourselves, ah, next time. We'll be back!
