We went to our favorite Hawaiian Food restaurant Young's Fish Market located in the Dillingham Plaza. In addition to their Famous Hawaiian Food. They make some of the best Chinese Roasted Meats on the island. They make Char Siu, Chinese Roast Pork, and Chinese Style Char Siu Ribs. Today we got one of their Pork Laulau's and some Char Siu Pork, and the Chinese Style Roast Pork. The Char Siu was roasted to perfection sweet and savory. Their Chinese Style Roast Pork had that delicious crispy skin on top and tender meat underneath with just the right amount of seasoning. Service was great we got in and out very quickly. They have a small dine in area, most of us get Take Out. Delivery service is available. Definitely recommended

I've been to Young's Fish Market for Hawaiian food before, but it's been a while, since the Dillingham area is usually off my beaten path. This is why I was so glad to see them newly listed on Uber Eats. I've enjoyed their laulau, but I've been reading about how great their beef stew is, and I love a good beef stew! I had made up my mind to order a plate, then while browsing the app, I saw "Buy 1, get 1 free" next to the Beef Stew Plate. Many of the folks at our office are small eaters, but I thought of one coworker who might enjoy and be able to finish a stew plate. I offered it to him and he gratefully accepted. I placed the order at 9:47 am, and the two hefty plates arrived at 10:04 am. I don't recall any of my delivery orders arriving that fast before. The big clear plastic bag contained: * two covered plate lunch containers with two scoops of rice each * two larger containers of stew * two smaller clear plastic containers of mac salad * two each of plastic spoons and forks * napkins I handed my coworker his share and I proceeded to eat mine while the stew was still hot. The plate lunch containers had empty space intentionally left open, with the scoops of rice on one side. This would allow folks to pour the stew into the plate to eat with the rice. This time around, I chose to eat my stew with the spoon, and occasionally scooped some rice into the gravy. I've never had stew meat this tender, enough so that I could just about cut it with the plastic spoon. There was a good balance of potatoes and carrots. It was delicious. The gravy was somewhat dark, not the reddish/orange color at some other places. And I never enjoyed mac salad as much as I did today. At many plate lunch places, mac salad is a filler, sort of a rice extender. Young's didn't resemble the macaroni-and-mayonnaise-looking mixture which passes for mac salad at some other places. This one had texture, carrots, bits of green, and perhaps some onions. As for my coworker? He said: - Raymond, thank you so much for lunch. That beef stew was awesome. I demolished it right away. The potatoes and the carrots were super soft, which is perfect and the meat was super tender. I'm thinking of ordering Hawaiian food next.

I haven't been here in a while, but I always love this spot. I try to come on Wednesdays because it's the only day that they sell oxtail laulau. Their oxtail laulau is the best laulau ever. The combo plate is too much for me. I usually get the oxtail laulau $21.75, two scoops of rice $3.25 and a half pound of squid luau $7.50. Holy smokes, I can't believe a pound of squid luau is now $15. It's heavy, so you don't even get that much. As I already stated, their oxtail laulau is the best. It contains a good 3-4 small pieces of oxtail. My husband didn't want one, but after tasting mine he wanted to get his own. I love squid luau and like it on the sweeter side. This one wasn't sweet, so I just added my own sugar. It was also a bit watery and didn't have enough coconut milk. This place is always packed during lunch hours. Trying to find parking is a pain in the behind.

Came to Young's twice this visit to Oahu. They have the best Lau Lau with the most choices. Got their Butterfish lau lau with side of mac n cheese and turkey tails. Pork lau lau and Big Al's on our second visit. Fish was tender and sweet fish flavor. Pork lau lau is just da bomb home cooking. Mac salad hit the spot and the turkey tails... OMG so savory and fatty goodness. They offer counter service and then you can sit inside to eat you food. Plenty of other food options and ways to order. Ala Carte or combo plates. Casual homey atmosphere. Wife ordered Big Al's Bento which was two meals for her. good choice if you want to try a little of everything. For sure will be back

Some of the best local food on the island. It's always our first stop after we land. The Lau Lau plate is my favorite. Food is ready instantly and everything is fresh.

Located in the City Square Shopping Center next to Utage Restaurant and across of Kamehameha Bakery and Ube Bakery is Young's Fish Market. Went in to grab some Hawaiian food and I decided to choose Al's Bento which comes with a mini Lau Lau which is mini, kalua pork, 1 slice sweet potato, Lomi salmon and 1 scoop of rice or poi. The mini pork Lau Lau was more than 1/2 fat hardly any meat. It was moist but you need to hunt for the meat. The sweet potato was good and steamed right. The kalua pork was okay and the Lomi salmon was mostly Lomi tomatoes. I asked if they had chili pepper water which normally they have a container on the counter, but he said it will be .26 cents for a 2 oz container. My wife ordered the Kailua pork plate with rice and she ate less than 1/2 the plate. Lot of new faces, don't know if same owners since Barbara & Allen passed away times have changed and the cost of doing business has also changed a lot and the mom & pops are having a hard time keeping up with the rising costs.

Small spot with mostly takeout business, but also some tables and chairs to eat at. Poke and chicken were excellent as was the prices with aloha service. Free parking in their lot for an hour, or street parking.

Lau lau is huge. But regular plates are big as well. Hawiian plates are a little bit pricey but they give alot. At least it had lots of pork. Tasty. Go and try it. Good food

If you know, you know. Hawaiian food specializing in varieties of lau lau. You can also get kalua pork, pipi kaula, lomi salmon, chicken long rice and other local favorites. Poi and kulolo not always available so you gotta ask.

Safe to say the laulau here is da biggest da largest. Da biggest da largest - wise words by Bigxthaplug The lyrics are something like that. Amazing good quality food across the board. I've had every single type of Lau lau here except for the chicken and veggie. The laulau here are da biggest, da largest. Pork laulau - 11/10 Perfection. Big, hearty, and tasty. Butterfish laulau - 8/10 Love butterfish? It's worth the splurge. Available on Tues and Fri only. Oxtail laulau - 8/10 Summer special only. If it didn't break the bank, I would come every Wednesday four times a month cuz that's the only time you can get it. Cut it open and you'll find tender soft oxtail with the bone in it. Please don't bite without looking for the bone. Please make smart decisions. The sign that says oxtail laulau is $13 each is wrong. It's $21.75 each. Squid laulau - 10/10 BREAK DA MOUTH Veggie laulau - available frozen only Chicken laulau - Great for those who prefer to skip pork, beef, and fish. Turkey tail is such a comfort food. My hubby always gets it on the side. They got plenty sides that pair well with laulau. Like chicken long rice. Or get a stew. Yes, you can get a side stew for $15. No judge me, Kay? A lot of people dining in were enjoying the plate lunches and poke bowls. You can also get your choice of fountain soda to wash it all down. Perfect for dining in or out. There are a couple tables for dining in against the windows and walls. It's truly good local food that hits the spot. Service here is on point and friendly. You tell them what you want, pay for it, wait nicely on the side, and enjoy the food after. Remember to bring your aloha and empty stomach. Happy yelping!

Veggie laulau are frozen $9 each (butternut squash, sweet potato, carrots, tofu)

Big Al's bento is my go to order so I don't fall asleep while working. Side order poi & Loni salmon. 5 Stars app gets me an additional hot laulau. On a dreary Thursday before the lunchtime crowd Young's Fish Market food hits the spot especially as the family heads to snow country for Winter Break. Service is fast and friendly. It's clean in their blue collar throw-back dine-in area. So nostalgic. Time to grind!

Young's Fish Market was founded by Wilfred & Charlotte Young in a modest market on Liliha St in 1951, as it specialized in the sale of fresh fish. During slow fishing seasons, the owners supplemented prepared dishes and grocery items. After a very difficult fishing year, a friend suggested that they sell lau lau and other Hawaiian style foods. In the 1980's, Wilfred & Charlotte's kids, Alan Young and daughter Barbara Connelly took over and focused on Hawaiian food. During this time, a 2nd store was established in Nuuanu, but due to a fire in 2000, it was relocated to Dillingham Blvd in City Square, where the current store stands. The Liliha location was permanently shuttered, and all renovations were done at the City Square location. Currently, 3rd generation family members, Daniel & sister Andrea Young (Alan Young's kids) have taken over, and is now best known for its Hawaiian and Chinese foods, catering, and sending shipments to the Mainland. Young's Fish Market offers: * Lau lau: beef, butterfish, chicken, oxtail, pork, vegetarian. * Seafood: poke, salmon, raw crab, dried opae, pickled ogo, sea asparagus salad, taegu. * Meats: char siu pork, roast pork, kalua pig, pipikaula, roasted turkey tail. * Stews/luaus: beef & tripe stew, chicken long rice, squid luau. * Sides: boiled peanuts, butterfish watercress, Portuguese sausage, mac salad, Maui onion w/ salt, pasteles, pickled onion, poi, sweet potato, warabe salad. * Dessert: haupia, kulolo. There are set combos of the items above, or you can mix and match with the items you want or purchase items ala carte. All items are the family's made-from-scratchrecipes. There are two items that I normally order: * Pork lau lau. It's something that I do not cook at home. It's an excellent lau lau, as they use a lot of luau leaves and a generous amount of tender pork with enough fat to keep it moist and a small amount of butterfish to give it some additional taste. You can order it warmed and ready to eat, refrigerated cold, or frozen for taking to the Mainland. They will keep the ti leaves on when you purchase them. * Beef Stew. Known as Hawaiian style stew, the gravy is on the thicker side and includes tender melt-in-your mouth beef, potatoes, carrots, celery and spices. There is a lot of flavor in this stew. The gravy itself is so good that people will just buy the gravy! While I can normally make this stew, sometimes it takes time to get all the ingredients, prepare them, and cook it for a lengthy time that it's easier just to order it. Stews vary with the different restaurants, but the stew at Young's Fish Market is the best! Your order at the counter and pay at the counter, while staff will prepare your dine-in or takeout order. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and will patiently answer your questions. Recent renovations made the interior brighter and repaired the dining tables and seats for patrons. Lining up to order is an efficient system. Hours of operation are: Mon to Fri 9:30a to 7p, Sat 9:30a to 4:00p, Sun closed. Located in City Square near Utage Restaurant and across from Kamehameha Bakery. Free parking is available in the private lot that is shared with other vendors; however, it can get busy during peak dining hours. There is a designated space fronting the store for takeout only. A 10% discount off of purchases is given to seniors ages 60+ on Tuesdays as a senior discount. And don't forgot to sign up for the Five Stars Program, where you can accumulate points for future discounts and also receive special discounts, e.g., free lau lau with $15 purchase. Young's Fish Market is our convenient favorite store to pick up Hawaiian and local foods when we have that craving! We hope that it will be yours too! Even my son, who now lives in Toronto and will be in town next month, has requested Young's Fish Market, to fulfill his craving! Support local!

    Just butterfish !

Is this the Young's that used to be in Nuuanu where the old Hungry Lion used to be? I remember going with my mom back in the 60's to pick up Laulau from a place called Young's back then.…

And we just can't go here anymore unless changes are made! We used to prefer them over Zippy's, but now they are less than 7-Eleven quality, while charging higher-end prices for the neighborhood. We have given them many chances, hoping it was just a fluke, but we have repeatedly been disappointed. Their chicken has become chewy and fatty, their rice is mediocre, and condiments such as mayonnaise are stripped down to the bare minimum quantity. Chile is poured so lightly that it is practically a minuscule amount. And their prices have continued to rise. I don't know if greedy people took over the restaurant who just don't care anymore, or what is going on. I remember when I used to take people here, and they would be impressed with the quality and quantity--plates just heaping with good cuts of meat, noodles, and rice. Those days are no more. As they say in Japan, the price performance is poor. Furthermore, their staff is rude. I can only imagine it was an owner working this day because it was a face I haven't seen that often. An older gentleman who appeared to be of Okinawan descent, working the cashier register, accosted us because I was privately discussing with my family about splitting different items with them. We were all ordering something, so he wasn't losing any money, but he told us about how prices are double in Waikīkī. First of all, it is rude to interrupt your customers that way. Secondly, we don't go to Waikīkī or care about Waikīkī. What happened to serving the locals? Third, Waikīkī has an assortment of restaurants, prices, and qualities, and they shouldn't be how you base your services. Lastly, I guarantee I could find a better deal in Waikīkī if I wanted to. Next time you're in the area, just go get a $6 bento or a $5 burrito from 7-Eleven next door. I assure you, the price performance and experience will be better. If Rainbow Drive-In is in the business of comparing themselves to other things, let's compare them to 7-Eleven and at least try to be better than them, right? I can get mochiko chicken from 7-Eleven for $6.99 that is similar in portion size and better quality. Meanwhile, they are serving their fatty, dry chicken for $16.75. Highway robbery! And they are not fancy, with their dirty picnic tables and plastic cutlery. They are just a step above a food truck, if that. Save yourself from the hype. They have gone downhill like a landslide. Go elsewhere.

OMG! This was a dining experience! So, the restaurant was closing so my friend said we should eat…read morethere! I didn't know that the servings were group sized!! I found so many things that looked great on the menu, to include fried gizzards, boneless Kal Bi ribs, fully loaded fried rice, Mac salad and other stuff I can't recall! So the TWO of us ordered way too much! We tried to eat as much as we could and ended up taking the rest home! Everything we ordered was delicious, so we knew we were going to eat good leftovers! The restaurant was a great place to go with a group to eat and watch sports! Our Waitress (I have to remember to get names) was a track star, she was running to and from several tables of groups to deliver food! I will go again if they reopen!

If you're visiting Hawaii with a big group, 100% recommend taking them here…read more We initially were a party of 16, and showed up without a reservation at 6pm on a Saturday. The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

Although everything was so good. Service was insanely fast and super friendly. Lots of outdoor tables with umbrellas, the place was pretty busy but we were able to get seating and we got our food in seconds.

While they do have a parking, I suggest just parking on the street and walking up to the place. Signs clearly direct you to which window you can order food from and another for food pickup/dessert only ordering. We opted for combo plate (kalua pork and chicken long rice) w/ a side of poi. Both the kalua pork and chicken long rice were tasty but wished we had ordered rice instead so that i could mop up the delicious fat from the kalua pork! Loved the haupia pudding but wished they would give you a bit more. For dessert we ordered the tahitian sweet lady which was delicious! Wasn't a fan of the salmon lomi as it was pretty fishy for me. As we waited for our food, we noticed a dessert chilling on the ledge and joked with my wife that it was likely ours. Sure enough after 10 mins, the ice cream guy asked the cashier whose it was and at that time was our number called. Sadly, the ice cream had already started to melt. Wished they wouldn't have prepared the dessert until after our food was ready. Would definitely head back for their plate lunches and to try the sweet lady of waiahole dessert.

The owner was very friendly and took the time to recommend dishes for us, including the laulau and lechon kawali. We also ordered the BBQ short ribs. Overall, it was a good experience trying Hawaiian food, but it's just not really our type of cuisine. The laulau was quite dry, and the preparation felt more like meat that had been boiled or cooked in liquid, which isn't something I usually enjoy. The lechon kawali had a crispy pork belly texture, topped with something similar to a salsa, but it didn't suit our taste either. Unfortunately, the cabbage served with it also had some black spots, which was off-putting. The BBQ short ribs were the highlight of the meal and the dish we enjoyed the most. We appreciate the experience and the hospitality, but the flavors just didn't quite match our personal preferences.

Either the owner or the manager seemed like a one man show. He was the server, bus boy, and chef. Husband got the pipikalua short ribs/he enjoyed. Sisters got the pork lau lau which came with sweet potato, rice or poi, lomi lomi salmon (more onion and tomato than salmon). i got the chicken lau lau, again stuffed with chicken, not enough taro leaves. The Haupia was smoky, so either burnt or something- inedible! Only six tables in the entire restaurant. The gentleman that was serving us I believe was also the bus boy, cook, server and cashier! Place is a hole in the wall with missing ceiling tiles and exposed panels above our table (gross!!). Sis loves this dive so we keep coming back!
