Newish spot at SALT. There's been a few turnovers in this specific store so hopefully, they stay long-term. Food - 5/5 Ambiance - 5/5 Service - 10/5 We came out on a Sunday and didn't realize they were closed already. We walked in 10 min past closing. But they allowed us to order for take out. Much Mahalo! The inside is clean and inviting. Ordering is easy via self order kiosk. Food is great. Service is even better. As you guys know, some establishment would not entertain guests after hours and for some that do, they may give you an attitude. Well the staff here were graceful and accommodating. This is definitely the Aloha spirit and it is much appreciated!! Food is great as well. We tried a few items including the Hawaiian tendon. One caveat is if you get it for take out, eat it ASAP as the tempura may get soggy. For best experience, just get it for dine in or eat it at one of the out door seating areas at SALT. The food was tasty and poke fresh. We'll definitely come back!

This is a great place to go to when you don't need anything fancy. Actually, now that I think about it, I can't really review this place because it has "Poke" in the name but I didn't try the poke. But I did try their tendon (tendon in Japanese, not in English). Well, no I didn't try that either - I ended up with sukiyaki kimchi udon and sweet potato tempura which hit the spot perfectly. I like to think it counts as tendon because udon has -don in it but... You order and pay at a kiosk. They call your name when your order is ready and you go grab your tray and can sit wherever you want inside to eat your food. There's water that you can serve yourself, and you throw away your own trash. The tables and wooden chairs are very solid and sturdy. Honestly, I am enamored of places like that - very self-service but good hot food. They also have plastic-can coffees from O'ahu Coffee Roasters available to purchase with your order. I was not expecting that! Was a special treat.

This tendon and poke spot is located at Salt Kakaako. It took over the space that was Redfish. It's a self service restaurant. You order at the kiosk right when you walk in. They call your name when your food is ready and you pick it up at the counter. We got the Hawaiian Tendon with ginger ahi $24.75 plus a piece of fried oyster $2, Sukiyaki Udon $12.75, chicken karaage $3.75 and a can of Oahu Coffee Vanilla Latte $5. The sukiyaki udon was excellent. The broth was perfect. The rice in the tendon bowl was room temperature. The ahi poke was fresh and so good. The tempura items weren't as crispy as I'd like. The bottom on the tempura items were probably soggy from sitting on the rice. The fried oyster on the other hand was really crispy. It was panko breaded instead of using the tempura batter. It was my first time trying the Oahu Coffee in a can. The vanilla latte was just right and I liked it. It comes in other flavors that I want to try one day.

I went here once during their soft opening. On my second visit today, the quality seems to have gone downhill. Okome makes tendon and poke bowls with a self-service concept where you order on a tablet and pick up your food. I like the convenience and the quick service. There's plenty of seating for dine-in. My first visit I got the tendon and shoyu poke bowl. I was surprised by how crispy the tempura stayed even though we did take out. I thought it was a pretty good flavor and portion for the price. This time, I got the same thing but with spicy ahi. The tempura was noticeably more soggy and oily than last time. The shrimp was overcooked, which was sad cause it's a nice big shrimp. The poke was also a smaller portion, but the last straw was a long strip of fish that looked like it was cut partially into cubes but not fully. I expect more attention to quality especially for this price. It's too bad that the food that had me coming back here a second time was not up to par this time.

Decided to finally check this place out since I work near by. Interior is clean and I appreciate the self-ordering area. I received my order quickly. I got the Wasabi Masago Ahi poke bowl. The fish quality was good, but I have to say the menu photo is a bit deceiving... The menu photo makes it seem like you'll get a hefty scoop of tobiko, but there was barely any tobiko in my poke bowl... and the "wasabi" flavor was totally absent. Little disappointed considering the price.

    - recommend trying - Service The ordering system is a mix of modern and minimal: you place your order on an iPad at the entrance, though there's also someone at the counter who can take orders. Beyond that, there aren't additional servers, so the experience leans toward self-service. Food The food was good overall, though my perspective comes with a bit of bias from having tried Tendon Kohaku in Washington state. What makes this spot unique is the option to add poke -- salmon, tuna, or hamachi. I went with the spicy salmon poke, since salmon is my favorite for both poke and sushi. * The tendon itself was tasty, and considering Oʻahu doesn't have many tendon-focused restaurants, it's refreshing to see one here. There's definitely room to grow, but the foundation is solid. * The cabbage salad and miso soup were both satisfying and balanced the meal nicely. * I do wish the poke portion was a little more generous, especially with the total coming out to nearly $30 without drinks or tip. * The rice could use some improvement in texture and flavor. * Overall food rating: 7.5/10. With a few tweaks, this place could really shine and become a standout. Ambiance Located in the heart of Kakaʻako near Moku, the restaurant is easy to access with both street parking and a garage that offers validation. The space itself feels clean and simple, but it could benefit from a bit more brightness and consistency. Music didn't start playing until more guests arrived, which made the earlier atmosphere feel a little quiet and flat. Keeping the vibe warm and welcoming throughout the day would help bring more of that aloha spirit into the dining experience.

I really liked it here! Everything was self-serve using iPads to order. When your order is ready they just call you up to pick it up. Lots of indoor seating and the interior was very clean and bright. The poke was actually really good and tempura was standard. I think if I come back I'd want to just eat more of the spicy ahi :o it was really good, and the fish tasted fresh. Really nice ambiance and they played good music lol I was just vibing. This is definitely my food place of choice now whenever I'm in SALT Kaka'ako.

A little japan in hawaii. This great tempura spot is so fast and easy. We got in and ordered our foods on iPads. The food was ready and out in less than 10 min. Hot, fresh, nice and crispy. So good. Workers are also super nice and the guy who calls out the orders very local Bradda. Very welcoming and lots of seating with fast in and outs. Defs going here a lot for lunch!

We tried the tendon with ahi poke and the burrito. I wish the burrito had a sauce to accompany it because it felt like something was missing. Maybe just hot sauce for the general burrito experience? The poke add on was also kind of expensive for the amount given. Overall the food was good but we felt like it was on the pricier side and nothing particularly stood oit. Plenty of space to eat but also seems more like a takeout spot. My friend was able to get a cup of water but when I asked another person later I was told they had no water cups and she suggested I buy a can of water or if I had a reusable water bottle they could refill that. I had already bought a soda so don't really want to buy water. Being heavily pregnant my friend offered me his cup to get water. We decided we would just wrap up and get a drink else where. There is also no where to dispose of your trash within the restaurant so you throw things out in the garbage outside.

Rice to see you... I've been patiently waiting for Okome as soon as I found out, they were taking over Redfish location at SALT. The wife been to the Kapolei location and the menu item seems identical how it is ordered is very different here in Kaka'ako. I'm sure you're able to place order at the service counter what's nice is they have a self ordering kiosk which is a nice option and I did so ordering my Poké bowl and knew exactly what I wanted as soon as I saw it, after placing my order, I casually walked in and was immediately greeted by a gentleman who asked if I had any questions to which I replied. I had placed my order and he said he will call my name when it's ready.. I ordered the Ginger Ahi which comes with white rice and I was told from the staff that is Japanese rice from Fukuoka that the painstakingly put many efforts into preparing this price. I was very excited as you can build your own Poké bowl as it comes basically with just the poke and rice and pickled ginger so with this, I opted to add ginger topping for an additional $2 which did bring the total pretty high to just under $20. The rice is actually prepared like sushi rice which honestly isn't how I like my poke rice but it was cooked perfectly topped with limu and the ginger ahi but that cold ginger onion really made it pop. Inside is very nice and spacious with lots of table seating and counter seats as well all nice and clean and brand new. They do not provide trash cans or bathrooms that would be using what SALT has. It's a very interesting. Minimal concept one that has been done in Japan for many years and hope that this works for them as it's different to have interaction with a staff but always a welcome spot in Kaka'ako. Thank you!

First thoughts were that this place was extremely clean and welcoming. I liked the ambience from the open seating, register, and even self-serve kiosks. This place is located in SALT. Parked in the structure at SALT Kaka'ako. The first hour of parking is free and any hour after that when you have to pay. Okome has a sign by the register to validate your parking for a cheaper rate if you plan to stay longer. There was a handful of people at around lunch time. We ordered on the self-service kiosk while someone else ordered at the register and then found a seat while we waited for our food. Waited about 5 minutes until we were called to pick up our food at the pick up counter. We shared a volcano bowl, which was tasty. I liked the sushi rice pairing with the fish, which tasted so fresh. The bowl was on the pricier side ($20 with tax), but worth it for the quality of food in the bowl. Trash was located outside of the restaurant, which was interesting but maybe that's why this place is so clean! I would recommend trying this place and would come again!

I was really excited to try the newest spot in Kakaako! As soon as you enter, you'll see self-service tablets to order for dine-in or takeout (we chose takeout). I really appreciated the pictures on the menu, it made deciding on what to order much easier! I got the Volcano bowl which was spicy ahi and shoyu poke and 1 piece of shrimp tempura. My parents ordered the tendon and a regular spicy mayo ahi bowl. Overall the experience was good! Our poke bowls came out pretty fast and the person passing me the food was friendly. As for the food, the portions were on the smaller side. I thought the tempura was really good, but the poke was pretty average. The spicy ahi didn't have much flavor as some other spots on the island, and the shoyu poke was pretty salty the night we went (I had Hawaiian salt chunks in each bite). I liked that Okome uses fresh fish, but wasn't too impressed by the flavor of the poke. If I'm in a pinch I'd be back, because the overall experience was solid!

My husband and I were looking forward to this new spot opening up at SALT. With two young kids, we're always looking for casual eateries with good food. And THIS is good food. I love the different combination options of tendon and protein. My husband tried the steak tendon and I got the aburi salmon poké tendon. It was really hard to make up my mind because I wanted to try almost everything on the menu. I had to remind myself that we live nearby and can return whenever I want. All of the ordering is done by tablets so this minimizes staff. The one staff member I interacted with was super nice.

Parking was scarce, but we managed to find a spot nearby in the neighborhood. It was a Saturday around lunchtime, and we were able to be seated immediately. We didn't really know what we were doing with the menu, so our server ordered whatever she thought we would like. She did a great job. We got the Pipikaula short ribs, kalua pig, lomi lomi salmon, poi, mac salad, and fried butterfish collar.  Everything was so good! My favorite two items were the short ribs and the butterfish collar. The short ribs were so meaty with a nice firm texture and had a yummy sweet marinade. The fried butterfish collar was crispy and dripping with buttery goodness.  Trying poi for the first time was such an interesting experience as well. I had always wondered what it tasted like. I had always thought it was going to be like a sweet taro paste dessert, but it's actually more like a starch and serves the same role as rice! Its neutral flavor allows you to pair it with your proteins. It adds a bit of texture and helps you feel full. I was really grateful for finally getting to try it and loved learning something new! It's made of taro, I say give it a try for that unique and authentic experience - coconut jelly was yummy They accept cash and card Limited parking in the front, come in right before 5:30 on a weekday to beat the crowd Small family business vibes The experience lives up to the hype!

The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

We finished with the dessert Sweet Lady of Waiahole which was super tasty and not to be missed. There is decent parking and several picnic tables outside. I thought the entire experience was super fun, you just may want to swap your Poi for Rice. :)

We also tried their famous "Sweet Lady of Waiahole," which definitely lived up to the hype--so delicious. There's convenient parking available, plus seating if you want to stay and enjoy your meal. Really glad we stopped by!

The guava bar was delicious and flavorful and just crumbles in your mouth! Definitely one of the better guava bars I've tried. Love how crumbly it is. The salmon belly was delicious OMFG. It looks so simple and straightforward but that sht is so flavorful. It is crispy and yet soft on the inside. The salmon belly is cut into bite-sized pieces so I didn't have to worry about using a knife to cut it. I usually try salmon belly where it is usually seasoned lightly to bring out the natural flavor of the salmon, but Guava Smoked's salmon belly is just grilled in a way that makes the salmon sweet/crispy and still get traces of the salmon taste as well. It's definitely not your traditional Japanese-style way of cooking salmon belly but really just their own. I'd go back and get this again. Another thing too. I'd get this with beer. This would hit very hard with alcohol but because I don't drink I need a kombucha. The grilled salmon belly would go perfect with it. Cheers! Uncle was very helpful and kind when serving and if you dine-in he brings it to your table.

There is a dedicated parking lot behind the restaurant that is shared with the other businesses in the same building. When I walked into the restaurant at about 1pm on a Wednesday, I was surprised to find it almost empty. It's a pretty large space, so the lack of patrons was rather glaring. There was one person sitting at the counter facing the kitchen and one employee working. This was my very first visit to Guava Smoked so I asked the person at the counter what he recommends. He said the two most popular meats are the kalbi and the spicy pork. "Perfect!" I thought, because those were the two options I was eyeing. Unfortunately, they were out of kalbi that day. Bummer... Nothing else on the menu caught my eye, so I ordered a smoked spicy pork plate to go. The spicy pork was good. Did it blow my mind? I wouldn't say it did. But it was satisfying enough. Honestly, I really wish they had kalbi available when I went. Hopefully next time I stop in they will.

3.5 stars We wanted…read moreto try authentic Hawaiian food and came across this spot. The owner was very friendly and took the time to recommend dishes for us, including the laulau and lechon kawali. We also ordered the BBQ short ribs. Overall, it was a good experience trying Hawaiian food, but it's just not really our type of cuisine. The laulau was quite dry, and the preparation felt more like meat that had been boiled or cooked in liquid, which isn't something I usually enjoy. The lechon kawali had a crispy pork belly texture, topped with something similar to a salsa, but it didn't suit our taste either. Unfortunately, the cabbage served with it also had some black spots, which was off-putting. The BBQ short ribs were the highlight of the meal and the dish we enjoyed the most. We appreciate the experience and the hospitality, but the flavors just didn't quite match our personal preferences.

Then someone wanted to change from rice to poi. I tried many times and no one answered. Their voice mailbox was full. We e ended going there to make the change. He gentleman looked like he was working be himself. We bads to wait almost a half hour for him to finish the order. 2. Price - the prices were higher than expected. All the plates were $26.00 and up. 3. Food - The poi was very tasty and fresh, although a bit watery. The lau lau had a lot of lean pork filling, not a lot of leaves. The long rice didn't have much chicken and was a bit watery too. We enjoyed the sweet potato. There was also lomi salmon, haupia onion and chili pepper water. 4. As mentioned before there isn't much parking. The restaurant wasn't busy when we got there. Overall the food and service was OK. The price was a bit high.
