    Souza special

Fish was amazing! Super fresh melted in our mouth with every bite lol. By far the best Fish I've had on island in many many years. Had the Souza sashimi, perfect combination of fish, 12 pieces with sushi rice. Also had Da House special poke and their ginger poke waitress fresh and amazing. My wife had the porque bowl and it did not fail. Services was great It was my first time there a girl upfront was super helpful and made our selections for us. Lol. Parking is super limited, and the order area is super tiny.

I was craving poke nachos and came across Souza's Fish House in Mapunapuna. Although it was a bit of a drive to get there, I was determined to go based on all the 5 star reviews. And let me tell you, it definitely lived up to all the hype! This is a little hole -in-the-wall in an industrial area. There's only a few parking spots in front, so you'll need to find street parking if you're not one of the lucky ones. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the friendliest employees! I ordered the Poke Nachos (2 choices) for $20. I chose the Shoyu Ahi and the Hawaiian Salt Ahi. I asked if they could separate the poke from the chips since I planned to eat it later on, and they kindly put the poke in separate containers so I could keep the poke cold in my fridge. When I finally dived into my poke nachos, it was so delicious! I combined everything together and it was one of the best poke nachos I've ever had. The fish was so fresh and they were generous with the poke portions. I would highly recommend this place for poke, and I will definitely return soon to try some of their other items!

Souza's Fish House is a hidden gem. I finally, got a chance to stop in. It's located in the Mapunapuna area. Parking can be challenging but it's worth the wait to find one. Staff was very friendly. As busy as they were, they manage to greet us as we walked-in. This place is for takeout orders only. We had the Hurricane Bowl and the Spicy Ahi Bowl. It looks like the proportions are small, but the dish was deep and had a generous amount inside. I gotta say it was super flavorful and tasty with the crab salad on the side. There was a seasoned cuttlefish on the side which was superb. All their fish is served fresh. That's what makes it sooo good! I will be back to try other items on my next visit.

Cyndy's Bottom Line: The best fresh high grade fish for sashimi and poke. *A few spots up front and street parking *Credit cards accepted *Online orders for pick up https://www.souzasfishhouse.com *Hours: Sunday - Monday: CLOSED Tuesday - Saturday: 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM *Assortment of ono poke made fresh daily *Sashimi donburi, poke bowls and poke nachos, and sushi cakes too. *The sashimi donburi of otoro and chutoro is so onolicious. Generous portion, and good orice point for high grade toro. *Catering menu available +Highly recommend +Friendly and attentive service

I've been hearing a lot of great things about Souza's Fish House, so I had to stop by and finally try their poke bowl and it definitely lived up to the hype. Parking in the area can be a bit tough, but there are a few stalls right in front of the shop which helps if you get lucky. Just looking at the poke selection, you can already tell the quality is there. I went with a two choice bowl with Hurricane and Maui Onion Crunch. The bowl also came with crab salad, taegu, and sushi rice. The fish was incredibly fresh honestly some of the freshest poke I've ever had. Both flavors were excellent, and now I'm already planning to go back to try more of their unique options. The only thing I'd change next time is getting regular rice instead of sushi rice, since I'm not a big fan of the texture and sweetness, but I'm still glad I tried it. Souza's is easily one of the top poke spots on Oahu in my opinion, and definitely worth a visit if you're a poke lover.

Im usually hard to please, especially when it comes to food.. I must say one of the better poke I had in a long time. Fresh and the right amount of seasoning. Thats money!! Keep it up, thats my go to place for poke from now on.

Souza's is a hidden gem for fresh sashimi and poke at a great price. Located in Mapunapuna in the old Kau Kau Grill location, the shop is suited for takeout and probably gets busy during lunch. They offer a variety of sashimi donburi as well as fresh poke, and what really stood out for me was the quality for the price. You can get their "Souza Special" don which includes ahi, chutoro, otoro, salmon, hamachi, and ikura for $27. That is the higher end of their selections, with other combinations of fish being cheaper. My favorite of this combo was actually the chutoro, which was extremely soft and had the perfect amount of marbling. The otoro was on the firmer side but was also excellent. I also got some spicy ahi poke to try, and it had a nice depth of flavor. The freshness of their fish really shines through. Even the sides that come with each bowl are elevated. I especially loved the crab salad and their homemade taegu, which used the more stringy type dried fish and had a sauce that tasted like honey gochujang. While waiting for our food, I saw that they also offer sashimi platters, custom sushi cakes, and a poke nacho bar that can be hired to pop up at events. Prices were on point too! Come here for super fresh fish that outdoes many of the more popular spots.

Food was yummy! Service excellent. Greeted and provided with suggestions since it was our first time. Parking could be tricky but would totally come back for more :)

It took over the old Kau Kau location. Parking is limited over there. The place is clean and the workers are very nice. I ordered the amaebi and very reasonable price and the Souza's special. The fish was so fresh. It melt in my mouth. So worth the price. Planning to get a platter for my hubby birthday. Go check them out.

Wow for a little fish house in Mapunupuna this place is awesome! I honesty believe if you don't expect much you won't be disappointed, ha ha I really need to rethink that philosophy. Seeing several check-ins on Yelp then reading the reviews I've been trying to get in but couldn't get there early enough to be assured parking or a fully available menu. Since they're closed Sunday & Monday I felt Tuesday would insure everything would be at its best. I arrived at 10:00 just at opening and scored one of the two parking stalls fronting the business. Walking in it's very small inside...no tables, strictly takeout. I was first in, placed my order for the Fish House Chirashi, half pound of Shoyu/ginger Ahi poke and half pound Spicy Ahi. Waiting for my order to be put together a duo of HPD officers came in wanting to order but were unsure. I was impressed that they were able to try several different pokes and the owner Ryan told them they could make it spicier or less spicy as they wanted. That's good to know. So I took my lunch home and ran off to finish my morning errands. About 1:00 I grabbed the Chirashi and a pair of chopsticks, opened the box and started eating the best sashimi ever! Loved the sushi rice, the scoop of crab salad, the tasty condiments and both the ala carte pokes which I actually bought for g-son Wes who said the same thing I said.....tastes like it just came off the boat. I recommend this place, I'm sure it's busy during work hours in the industrial area so get your orders in early. They're only open 10:00 to 3:00. Wish they were here when I worked in the area.

Takeout lunch from Mapunapuna, Honolulu, Hawai'i... Souza's Fish House popped up several times on my Yelp app as a Hot New Business. I was curious, drove over, and found free street parking since the stalls in front of the shop were all taken! This is a cozy, clean, takeout only place. The cashier was efficient and pleasant! I ordered the Trio Deluxe with Otoro, hamachi, salmon, ikura, and akami on a bed of sushi rice and decorated with an imitation crab salad, wasabi, takuan, and a konnyaku/gobo salad. The fish were fresh and firm. The imitation crab salad was a bit odd and the sushi rice was inconsistent - soft, in some places and a few harder grains of rice in other places. There were spots of plain rice and some areas had more flavoring. I might return for the chirashi bowl or a sushi platter. We shall see...

    $6 poke on the side.

First off, I can't believe this place is in Mapunapuna! A little takeout place that serves fresh fish! I guess it was the old Kau Kau grill but this is anything but a grill. It's new and clean and has great fish! The prices are very decent at approximately $25/plate. You can choose from various sashimi donburi and also poke bowls. You can mix and match sashimi and poke. You can choose regular rice or sushi rice. They give you real wasabi - I mean I believe it's real because it doesn't take your sinuses out when eating it! I had the poke and the sashimi and I have say the sashimi is a WINNER! The poke is good too, but poke is something that you kind of get used to and have your favorite spots - but this poke is still really good! They give you side dishes, imitation crab salad, vegetables, pickles, ginger. All of which are tasty! At first, I thought, it seems like a small serving, but no, once you start eating, it's a perfect portion and it is delicious. With the absence of really great places around the Salt Lake area, this is a welcome addition. The only negatives are lack of parking (all of the places here suffer from that). You can order online as well. Finally, no need to drive into town. Fresh fish is here! Oh and good customer service too!

Saw a friend post the Souza Special on their instagram and I had to try. Highly suggest putting in a phone order as a lot of people come here. Fish quality is top tier and the fish cut's are chef's kiss. If you're thinking of sharing a sashimi plate... don't. I had one for myself and a friend had ordered one to share with her other half and it left them wanting more. Their spicy ahi is delicious and not over powered by all the seasonings. It was just enough. I would however ask to go light on the unagi sauce as it was too sweet for my liking. Already have came back for more and will def come here whenever I need a sashimi pick me up.

The steak quesadilla is really good, has a nice char to the meat, filling is packed with steak n' cheese, easy enough to share, salsa that comes on the side is spicy; a lil' goes a long way. The mixed taco is yuMmmy n' loaded with 2 good size pieces of fried fish n' 2 large fried shrimp. The textures are crispy from the beer batter n' crunchy from the slaw. Have been meaning to check out this spot for a minute but just hadn't been able to until today…read more I stopped by here at 11am on Saturday after a hike. It was "crowded" in that there is a very limited dining area and out door seating area. We managed to snag a table by asking another couple if they were using both of their tables which were put together. Fortunately they weren't. If you're outside, it's also super loud because of the traffic. Probably goes without saying but if you're on a first date or whatever perhaps not the most ideal spot. So we stood in line. Make sure to grab a menu while you're there if you don't have it pulled up on your phone. I ordered fish taco (singular)...i guess they don't do three for whatever like many other places do. That's fine. My date ordered the Tostada de Atun (tuna). And then I ordered a 16oz ceviche to go. I guess I assumed the ceviche would be fish, but i think it's shrimp. Everything was tasty, especially the ceviche. If it was regular fish ceviche, it would have been 20/10. I'm not a huge fan of shrimp and it was still a solid 9/10. The fish taco was fine, if a bit under seasoned. And I think my date enjoyed her tostada. Would totally recommend this place to anyone.

From the outside, it is a hole-in-the-wall, but don't let that fool you. This is by far the best sushi spot on Oʻahu. It is on the pricier side, but the quality and freshness make it well worth it. Everything we ordered was authentic, flavorful, and incredibly fresh. My favorite was the toro nigiri, rich and buttery, and it melts in your mouth. The service was great and I am already looking forward to my next visit!

There is something deeply confusing about Mitch's Fish Market & Sushi Bar…read more Not bad confusing.Worse. Identity-crisis confusing. Because the fish?Excellent. Cold, clean, glistening with that dangerous little shimmer that tells you somebody in the supply chain actually cared. You can taste the quality immediately. The kind of quality that silences a table for half a second. And credit where it is due: almost everything I tried ranged from very good to genuinely great. But then the room begins speaking. And suddenly the spell breaks. The atmosphere feels like someone took a serious sushi counter, stripped away all sensuality, all elegance, all ritual, then dropped it inside a fluorescent island diner where exhausted civilians came to discuss parking validation and Costco receipts. It is the culinary equivalent of wearing a Rolex with orthopedic sneakers. The contradiction never stops humming beneath the experience. You sit there eating beautiful fish while surrounded by an energy that feels strangely... transactional. Heavy. Casual in the least flattering way. A room with no mystery. No seduction. No gravity. Like Zippy's accidentally wandered into the tuna trade and struck gold. And on an island like Oahu, where atmosphere matters almost as much as the fish itself that becomes a real problem. Because sushi is not merely consumption. It is theater.Restraint.Texture.Whispered precision. The best sushi spots on Oahu understand this instinctively. They understand that exceptional fish alone is not enough. You are paying for transportive experience. For mood. For elegance. For the feeling that the evening exists slightly outside ordinary life. At Mitch's, the fish reaches for Tokyo while the room drags you back toward a tired strip mall off the freeway. And then there's the crowd. Not evil people. Not rude people. Just an oddly low-rent energy orbiting genuinely premium seafood. The kind of room where one table is eating remarkable otoro while another feels one argument away from discussing used-car financing over soy sauce packets. It creates dissonance. Especially considering the prices. Because at those prices, you begin comparing the full experience not merely the fish quality and that is where Mitch's stumbles hard. There are multiple sushi spots across Oahu that equal or surpass the seafood while also delivering beauty, atmosphere, intimacy, and actual emotional texture. So what remains is this strange contradiction: Mitch's serves fish far above the dignity of its own ambience Which almost makes it fascinating. Would I be back - no . You can get same and better quality fish, much better vine, better part of town for the same Price.

I've been to Mitch's a few times and when I saw that they opened up an Izakaya next door, I knew I had to try it and made a reservation on Yelp. Izakaya Mitch's specializes more in cooked dishes while the other side is more about the fresh / raw fish. But that didn't stop us from ordering the assorted sashimi. All the fish were from Japan and yes you can taste the difference. The fatty tuna was obviously my favorite but even the regular tuna and the hamachi was so buttery, it just melts in your mouth. Plus, it comes with real wasabi. Not horseradish, real wasabi. For the cooked dishes we got the hokkaido crab tempura with a side of matcha salt. One of the best tempuras I've ever had. The kamameshi, a rice dish with their fish of the day. We got the half order and it's kinda like a bibimbap where they mix the rice for you at your table. I saw that people were raving about this on Yelp and put in our order right when we got in because it takes 25-ish minutes to prepare. On special, they had a karei karaage. Karei is a flat fish and I've never had a fish karaage before, it was perfectly fried and dipped in the ponzu sauce it was so good. Ambiance is a no-frills kinda spot but very clean and feels homey and the service is amazing! Attentive and super personable.

I made reservations, so we were seated right away. Luckily, it wasnʻt crowded when we sat, so our waitress was able to answer all our questions about different dishes we were interested in ordering. Our party of 3 got to try different things from the specials and regular menu. The tai karaage was so tender and seasoned really well, the kamameshi is such a comfort dish, and the burrata with chilled tomato was really refreshing. One thing we all liked was that even though there were a lot of people in the restaurant (most came in after we ordered), we still were able to speak to one another without talking loud. The staff mentioned that they will be getting a sushi chef, so I guess we need to try this place again,

The restaurant was pretty cute both outside and inside, and I could tell it draws a good crowd for football games, which is a plus. For the poke bowls, we got the Spicy Shoyu Ahi, Furikake Salmon, and Ultimate. Overall, they were pretty good and decent bowls. I liked that there was a condiment bar at the end to add any toppings you wanted. The fish was fresh and well seasoned, with no fishiness at all. I just wished there was a bit more white onion for crunch, but it was good regardless. The Fish and Chips were really good. The fish was super crispy, the meat was firm, and the fries were nicely fried. The tartar sauce or maybe more of a lemony aioli, was the star. It wasn't your usual tartar sauce; it had a homemade lemony sweetness that made it delicious. My only complaint was that the batter came off the fish pretty easily, which made it a bit tricky to eat at times.
